VBA Code Needed for a certain formula in Excel?

I have an excel sheet, and I am trying to bring some sort of automation in to that sheet (since I use it quite often) with the help of macros. The fact is that I am really new to macros and VBA programming language, so I need a little help in writing the code to find the 10th percentile (the formula for it is PERCENTILE(array, 0.1) for each bin value (50, 100, 150). If you see the picture attached, the wanted percentile values are in Q, the bins for which I want to find the 10th percentile value, are given in Column M (50,100,150) and the main data on which the 10 percentile value will be based is given in Column D. By Using the data given in D and filtering out a certain bin width in column E (Example: Filtering bin width 50 or 100), we could find the Percentile value against each of the bin value given in Column N. As said earlier I am new to VBA code, so any help will be appreciated in order to find the percentile values for each bin. the link to the original spread sheet is given below: http://bit.ly/XCgqtK

Oakland Museum White Elephant Sale

This year's White Elephant Sale to raise funds for the Oakland Museum of California is coming up!  The 2010 event runs March 6-7, 10am-4pm, at 333 Lancaster Street in Oakland near the Fruitvale BART. It's billed as "the biggest, the best, and certainly the most enjoyable rummage sale in Northern CA," and while I haven't attended too many other rummage sales, this doesn't sound far fetched.  The (carefully vetted) pile of goods absolutely stuffs the 96,000 square foot warehouse, which is sorted into themed departments.  It's insane, and an excellent place to find weird and wonderful items for your next project.  Pro Tip: If you go near the end of the day on Sunday, you'll find discounts on the remaining stuff - some departments will charge a flat fee for everything you can fit into a paper grocery bag. Bonus:  all proceeds go to help the Oakland Museum, which is currently undergoing renovation.  I'm a huge fan of their natural sciences exhibit, which features some excellent dioramas showing California birds, reptiles, and mammals in their native environments.  Truly good stuff.

RIP Tobias Wong

Tobias Wong passed away early Sunday morning, May 30. He was 35. This is terrible news as he was a wonderful creator. If you don't know the name, you've probably seen or read about some of his creations. One of which is the Sun Jar which stores energy during the day and uses it to power an LED at night. It has become a classic project here on Instructables. I am always interested in seeing cool new items that people make and for me Tobias always stood out as someone who could consistently make you think and laugh by making you see something in a new way. Whenever his name would pop up I would eagerly check it out to see what he had made this time. So when I saw the headline with his name and the years of his life with that sad number "2010" as the final punctuation my heart sank. I never even got to say "thank you" in person. If you've never heard of Tobias Wong or only know a couple of the things he's done, I urge you to check out more of his creations. It's worth it.

Nexus 7 tablet installed in car. Is there a way for it to read/display oem a/c and bluetooth info? (CAN-BUS)

I hope this is the right section, this is my first post in the forum section. I've just heard that somebody got it to work for the 2010-2012 models, although I have no solid info of this. Our systems for the 2013 model are different. So this is specifically for the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe and the Nexus 7 platform. Basically as the title states. We over at gencoupe.com are currently installing the Nexus 7 tablets in the dash. So far we've connected basic features, power/shut down w/car, and to read OBDII features in digital gauges via bluetooth using apps such as dashcommand. The only problem with installing this set up is that our OEM LCD display that displays a/c information, and bluetooth caller info now has to be removed. All the manual controls still work, they just aren't displayed. The Nexus can be attached to SD cards, USB hubs, etc. but obviously doesn't have a can-bus connection, nor a program to read it. Suggestions to get this info to display on the tablet? One suggested Arduino, but would still need an app programmed. Anybody have some time on their hands? I can provide more info as needed! Thanks

Guitar solo competition - ENTRIES NEEDED

I had this idea in a dream yesterday night. It involved me performing live (with a jackson king V) with megadeth and doing a guitar solo, which I won an instructables shirt from. I thought about it, and I guess it could work (without the prize, of course). Your guitar solo must be 30 seconds long at least, and anywhere up to 2 minutes. It can't be in sound file format, it must be in a video with sound (preferably youtube or similar). At the end, you must state your instructables name so I know it is you. You must also play to a backing track. I will post examples at some point, but you can make them yourself if you wish. I will need: 3 non-participating judges, preferably with musical experience. (Rap does NOT count Dj). As many entrants as possible! I will be entering as well, so I will not judge. The solos must be marked on: Musicality /10 Technical skill /10 Scales used /5 (1 point for each, 5 being maximum) Complexity /10 Fluency /10 Enjoyability /5 Total: /50. The Judges: HIVLTGE1 ajleece logic boy All entries must be in by March 1st 2010, then judging commences. The player with the highest total mark out of 150 is the winner, and will receive a prize of some sort. Perhaps a patch from a pro member, or a rating. This is chosen by each of the judges. Good luck, happy soloing!

Call for Mac & Cheese Recipes!

Homeroom is a specialty Mac & Cheese restaurant opening soon in Oakland.  Even better, they're running a mac and cheese recipe challenge!  You don't have to be local to enter (or win), and the best recipes will be included in their upcoming cookbook.  I suggest posting your mac'n'cheese Instructable, then sending along the link as your entry - we'd like to see what you've made, too! Details from the Homeroom website: The winning dish will be selected from a group of 10 finalists, who will be invited to show off their mac and cheese at cook-off party held right here in Oakland. But don’t worry out-of-towners, if we choose your recipe one of us will cook it up for you. But there’s a catch. For your recipe to qualify for the grand prize or for a spot in the cookbook, you must follow a few simple rules: * You must use only California cheeses in your mac and cheese. * All recipes must be based on 1 pound of dried pasta. * The retail cost of all your ingredients must equal or be less than $20. This includes pasta, milk, butter, flour, cheeses and whichever veggies or meats you decide to include. * Email your entries topmac@homeroom510.com no later October 15, 2010. Be sure to include your name, contact info, and a detailed recipe, including brand-names. * Gluten-free and vegan recipes are welcome and encouraged!

Total Views Tracker - 16/12/2010

Here's this week's stack of total views. Congratulations to Canida, who passed 4 MILLION views this week and to Zieak who reached 1 million! I finally fixed the bug that meant new members that were on the second page of the membership page didn't get included in the count, so those who were left out before should see a gain starting from when I run it next week. And lastly, and explanation of what this forum topic is about, since it caused some confusion last week, I hadn't been including a link and description since I figured everyone already knew what it was.... This forum topic is a printout of the results of a Perl script I run weekly. To be included in it, join this  group. The Perl script visits the profile page of each member of the group and extracts their Total Views then saves them to a file that can be opened by me in Excel. I then post the last 3 columns so everyone can compare their weekly gain with their friends. While you can easily see this data for you on the You page, this script allows people to compare their success/gain with their friends. I hand out patches as achievements when members of the group reach 50k, 100k, 250k, 500k and 1m views. Fixit Clinic

For those of you in the Bay Area, next Tuesday there will be a Fixit Clinic at UC Berkeley. The organizers are inviting people of all ages to bring in broken electronics and appliances so that they can work together and learn how to fix them (or, if not possible, at least how they work). This is going to be an awesome event because the only thing better than computer reuse is computer repair. I plan on being there with my iPod and its broken scroll wheel. I look forward to finding out if this is something that can be easily repaired or if it's time to invest in a new mp3 player. This will also be a great opportunity to meet all of the local people interested in exploring computer repair and reuse. Full event details: WHAT:  Fixit Clinic WHEN:  Tuesday, Feb 23, 2010, 7PM WHERE: UC Berkeley University Village Community Center, 1125 Jackson Street, Albany, CA‎ HOW:    Bring:  1) your broken or non-working thing (carry-in only: no oversize items. 2) any tools you might already own that you think might be helpful (e.g. phillips head screwdriver) 3) a digital camera to document the disassembly and what we find inside 4) boxes, bags and/or small containers to organize (and carry away) parts. COST:   Free! WHY:    To make friends, learn how things work, and have fun! Directions: UC Village is just off I-80, between the Gilman St. and Buchanan St. exits, behind the Target.

K'NEX war log entry 1

I'm gonna be doing a knex war log every week till 2010 so here it is. 9/27/09 It's terrible. The world has gone to war. Every boy 10-20 has been called to war. The battle between KI and Instructables has gone too far. Forum topics have been flooded with hate comments and spam. They took it too far. Now everybody who builds knex guns has taken over the company and stole all the knex they could find. There isn't a knexer out there who has less than 100 guns. I myself have 134. We all have our own vehicles to hide our weapons and transport. 9/28/09 Here i was, at the front line. 2 sidearms, a rifle and sniper. I couldn't believe the difference of age and size of the army of KI. Then a FIRE was shouted and plastic rained out of the sky. I myself had a BR-18 and brutally emptied it on the enemy. I hit 12 guys and knocked them out. Now knex guns aren't harmful but we molded our knex and made them metal so they could pack a punch. And we added carefully made rubber bands specificly so powerful that you could break a bone. That was the objective. The war continued till we called in the SR-V2 men. They surrenderd as soon as never. They kept on the fire. Now, with a BR-18 that could break bones, a SR-V2 was especially feared. To be continued...

FIFA Day 1 Group A results

Day 1 of the FIFA South Africa world cup 2010 is over. Every team in the group has a chance to enter the finals as both games ended in a draw. Game 1 South Africa 1- Mexico 1 Tshabalala       Marquez Minute 55        Minute 79 Game 2 France 0- Uruguay 0 Personal thoughts on Game 1: South Africa has really surprised me with their skill. I really expected Mexico to win but the South Africans have proven me wrong. South Africa had a slow start but close to half time they started to play really well. Mexico had a very hard time penetrating their defense. Mexico had a higher percentage of ball possession and showed to be a tough competitor. In the second half things started to warm up with the first goal made by Tshabalala in the 55th minute. Mexico countered with a goal by Marquez in the 79th minute to even things out. Overall a great game. Good luck to both teams. Personal thoughts on Game 2: This game was very interesting although I thought the coaches of both sides made some mistakes. IT was pretty even the whole way through but Uruguay was being pretty tough on the opponent giving them several yellow cards and a red card. Personally I think the french coach should have put Thiery Henry in the game much sooner. A great game from both sides. Good luck to you aswell. Feel free to leave comments regarding these games and teams.

Commentary on "Small Site Changes"

In the Site Updates forum, the goddess of code Rachel reported on last night's minor roll-out: I've just released a small set of changes: new footer featured and popular items are now split out by channel home page shows both featured and popular items in the same list searching on an exact channel name gets you to the main page for that channel various small formatting fixes I wanted to make some comments on two of these changes, both pro and con. The new footer is different, to be sure, but I don't think it's too bad. All the information is there, and relatively straightforward. Having the search box at the top and the bottom is a great idea! The extremely dark background is not very accessible, though. I think a pale grey (the same grey used in the header) with normal black text would be a better choice for our low-vision users. I'm not particularly happy with having the Featured and Popular stuff jumbled up together, and indistinguishable. Those two states are really different, and the have different implications for the Instructables involved. If you're going to jumble them up, could you at least put the nice Featured banner onto the thumbnails?  UPDATE 23 Apr 2010:  They've added the banner to the home-page giant thumbnails, and have created a new Popular banner as well. Also, many thanks to Rachel for fixing my very own bug! Now the masthead (and new footer) are properly rendered even when I use the horizontal scroll bar.

Scared of shots? Cough!

The Claim: Coughing Can Blunt the Pain of a Doctor’s Needle By ANAHAD O’CONNOR Published: January 25, 2010 THE FACTS Sometimes there are no words that can comfort a patient who fears an injection or the drawing of blood. But there may be one cheap and easy way to ease the needle’s sting. In the medical literature, it is known as the cough trick. Patients cough moderately just before a shot and then once during it. How this works is unclear. It could simply be a matter of distraction. Or, as a report in the journal BMJ pointed out, it may have something to do with a brief, cough-induced rise in blood pressure that reduces the perception of pain. Whatever the mechanism, studies have found intriguing evidence. Two were conducted in 2004, including one three-week study in which doctors measured variables like pain intensity, hand withdrawal and palm sweating as subjects had intravenous needles inserted in their hands — on one occasion while coughing, and on another with no coughing. Coughing, they found, reduced the pain. In another study, published this month in the journal Pediatrics, scientists at the Mayo Clinic tried the coughing trick on 68 children, ages 4 to 11, receiving immunizations. They found that it eased pain in Hispanic and white children, but not in black children — a finding they could not explain. And like any method, it has its obvious flaws: coughing too vigorously, for example, could cause doctors to miss their mark. THE BOTTOM LINE Studies suggest that a moderate cough during an injection may forestall pain. Pretty neat.  Might be a good trick to teach kids so they don't develop phobias.

I need help with my projetc with a petrol generator, inverter-charger and gel batteries

Hello,  I own a non-profit organization in the island of Tenerife, Spain. We have established in an old house that was from my grandpa. We are there since Novenber 2010. We tried to sing up with a local enterprise that provides electricity but they told us that we had to make some changes in the house, we did it but they still without providing us electricity so we bought a petrol generator that provides us the only source of electricity that we have, but petrol is a bit expensive and the generator is noisy.  Mi intention is to set up solar energy sometime in the future, but is a bit expensive for us by the moment. Last mounth I bougth an inverter-charger and a gel battery for charge it temporaly with the petrol generator, saving energy, however I believe that they are bad connected toguetter because the battery doesn't charge. I don't have a lot of knolenge about this matter so I need help.  I attach some photos of the battery and the inverter (is a charger-inverter in fact). I can take more photos if they are needed or provide more information. I'm really don't know what I'm doing and I fear to try by myself and broke something.  I think that the problen is in the connection to the battery or the inverter switch, so I provide those photos for start.  Thank you very much, I need help.

Ethanol-fueled Hummer - E85 H2

Do you think the people who designed this had some sort of irony-deflecting helmets?Hummer will offer E85-compatible flexfuel engines on both the H2 and H2 SUT starting for model year 2009, and by 2010, all Hummer models will be flexfuel-compatible. We'd have to put a few hundred miles on a test rig to say for certain, but based on our experiences with (a) Hummers and (b) ethanol rigs, we'd wager that the 2009 Hummer H2 E85 may well deliver the absolute worst fuel economy of any vehicle based off a light-duty truck chassis sold in the US in the last 20 years. Our guess: 11 mpg highway, 8 city. Going downhill. With a tailwind. As a special added bonus, E85 Hummer owners will be doing their part to jack up their monthly grocery bills---and everyone else's too--as increased demand for E85 has caused a serious disruption in a major component of America's food supply, which in turn has adversely affected the price of meat and dairy products, sodas and sweets, breads and breakfast cereals, baby formula, jellies and jams, salad dressings, and yes, even our beloved corn dogs. Now you've really ticked us off! But hey, it's clean and it's green. When you put it that way, $7.99 for a bag of tortilla chips doesn't sound so bad after all, now does it?via Fourwheeler

Something from Nothing: Films on Design & Architecture

If you're interested in Yerba Buena Center for the Arts' TechnoCRAFT exhibition, you might also want to know about the design film series we're hosting this summer.  See below for more information. SOMETHING FROM NOTHING: FILMS ON DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE Sundays, Jul 11 thru Sep 5, 2 pm In conjunction with our TechnoCRAFT gallery exhibition, we present these eight matinee screenings, covering not only design, but architecture, motion graphics and craft. Sun, Jul 11, 2 pm Refrigerator Fetish: Vintage Industrial Design Films We kick off the series with a selection of funny, bizarre, and maybe even educational vintage product design films, from the 1920s forward. Examining the sensuality of the fridge, the rhapsody of the pencil and the mysterious polishing of unknowable objects, this promises to be a one-of-a-kind day at the movies. Presented live by film archivist Dennis Nyback. Sun, Jul 18, 2 pm Citizen Architect: Samuel Mockbee and the Spirit of the Rural Studio By Sam Wainwright Douglas Citizen Architect chronicles the work of the late activist architect Samuel Mockbee, and his radical educational program known as the Rural Studio. The program teaches students about the social responsibilities of architecture and charges them to provide original and inspirational homes and buildings (mostly from salvaged materials) in rural west Alabama, one of the poorest communities in the country (2010, 60 min, digital video). Preceded by the short Robin Hood Gardens (Or Every Brutalist Structure For Itself) by Martin Ginestie (2010, 17 min, digital video) Sun, Jul 25, 2 pm wow+flutter Assembled by onedotzero, the London-based cutting-edge new media group, this compilation program showcases the most progressive and unpredictable work in motion graphics and short-form media. Fresh talent and celebrated masters alike strive to expand, blur and explode traditional notions of what future moving images could be as a playground for creative expression. (2009, 70 min, digital video) Sun, Aug 1, 2 pm The Greening of Southie By Ian Cheney This incisive new documentary is set in the traditionally Irish-American working-class neighborhood of South Boston, where a new kind of building is taking shape. From wheatboard cabinetry to recycled steel, bamboo flooring to dual-flush toilets, the Macallen building is a leader in the emerging field of environmentally friendly design. But Boston's steel-toed union workers aren't sure they like it. And when things start to go wrong, the young development team gets a little more than they bargained for. A film about building the city of tomorrow…today. (2008, 72 min, digital video) Sun, Aug 15, 2 pm Infinite Space: The Architecture of John Lautner By Murray Grigor John Lautner was the Southern California architect. Even if his name isn’t familiar, you have likely seen pictures of some of his most famous works, such as the space-age “Chemosphere,” the octagonal house on a hill, which has become a Los Angeles landmark. Lautner believed that the purpose of architecture is to create timeless, free, joyous spaces for all activities in life. Infinite Space traces the lifelong quest of a man to create “architecture that has no beginning and no end.” (2009, 90 min, digital video) Sun, Aug 22, 2 pm Rem Koolhaas: A Kind of Architect By Markus Heidingsfelder and Min Tesch Rarely has an architect caused as much sensation outside of the architecture community as Rem Koolhaas. His outstanding creations such as the Dutch Embassy in Berlin, the Seattle Library, and the Casa da Musica concert hall in Porto are working examples of his visionary theories about architecture and urban society. An engaging portrait of the man and his work, the film takes us to the heart of his ideas. Koolhaas has stated "it's the only film about me that I have liked." (2008, 97 min, digital video) Sun, Aug 29, 2 pm The Visual Language of Herbert Matter By Reto Caduff SPECIAL SNEAK PREVIEW! A revealing look at the life story of a highly influential mid-century modern design master. Known as a quintessential designer's designer, Swiss-born Herbert Matter is largely credited with expanding the use of photography as a design tool and bringing the semantics of fine art into the realm of applied arts. Through never-before-seen footage, personal photography and stunning graphic design, the film explores the social and cultural impact of his personal visual language that influenced a generation of designers and artists. (2010, digital video) Sun, Sep 5, 2 pm Handmade Nation By Faythe Levine This charmingly low-fi film documents the contemporary crafting community. FIFA Day 2 Group B results

Another day of good matches at the 2010 FIFA world cup. The group B games were as good as the first games here are the results. Game 1 Korea republic 2- Greece 0 LEE Jung Soo 7th minute Park Ji Sung 52nd minute Game 2 Argentina 1- Nigeria 0 Heinze 6th minute Personal thoughts on game 1: I didn't get to see the two goals but I foud it an amazing coincidence that they were both scored 7 minutes into each half. Maybe the coach had planned this. If that is true I really want to see Korea's next match. It seemed to me that Greece wasn't playing very nicely as they constantly kept shouting at each other. I personally think this is why they lost. Good luck to both teams and I hope Greece plays nicer next time. Personal thoughts on game 2: This game i was able to watch except for the first few minutes. I missied the goal but I saw it in the Highlights. I found this game much more enthusiastic than the last one. Mainly because every time Aregentina commited a foul they apollagized to the Player. This is something that is needed in a lot of games. It's a great sign of good sportsman ship. Nigeria had an amazing defense. It will be hard to score when playing against them. I think all these teams still have a chance to enter the finals. Good luck to you all. Amazing games! Please Comment on the teams and games.

home made car heater control help needed

I have a heater control panel from a 2010 dodge journey that I want to use in a custom made kit car. The control knobs are all based upon resistance, no IC's are used in the panel. The fan speed knob has 4 positions, off/low/med/high (only uses two pins on the board connector) The temp knob has 13 positions from hot to cold in which the AC is automatically triggered from the middle position to full cold, and the heat from warm to full hot (only uses three pins, one common and one for each side of the knobs range) The 3 position selector switch (face/bi-level/floor) also uses only two pins. This board is designed for a max of 5 volts, which I already have that instructable for that. But what I need help on is how to make 3 sets of controls for the various knobs. One for fan speed one for the heat/ cold and one for the position selector switch. Im trying to find a way to create a switching action created by various voltages as they are running through the control board, that will trigger 12 volt effects for the fan speed, and a servo for the heater duct changer. The heater knob will need to turn on or off the AC, and control a shut off valve for the coolant heater control valve. But like a RC servo it would turn in relation to the voltage applied. Would transitors work in this case? Any ideas? Id like to get past this and move into the fabrication of the system. But this is stopping me cold right now.

call for ideas and projects for a new publication

The Wild Pansy Press Book of Rainy Day Activities A Call for Works The Wild Pansy Press will be producing a publication in which a range of artists, designers, activists make concrete suggestions for new cultural activities in a Post-Credit-Crunch society, with an emphasis on the practical, the sustainable, the challenging and the subversive... The book will be a collection of templates, instructions and recipes which can be used to make or to generate Art works in the widest sense. The book will include some pieces about ideas raised by the projects as well as the "instructions" and templates, parts lists, supplier contacts, artists' information and plenty of visual material. Everything will be copyright-free and we will encourage readers to get back to us with their own ideas or adaptations of the pieces The book will be our contribution to the exhibition CRUNCHTIME: artists' responses to the global credit crisis and its timetable of associated events and will be available free at the main exhibition venue in York for the duration of the 8-day event in February 2010 and will then be on sale through various distributors, independent bookshops and galleries worldwide and from our own website. In addition, larger-format supporting items such as detailed plans, circuit diagrams and motivational posters will be also available as free downloads from the Wild Pansy site. The publication will be a squared-off A4 format (210 x 210 mm) and its design will reflect the contents. We are currently negotiating funding to cover the costs of making selected "prototypes" by contributors. So we invite you to submit your ideas, proposals and plans for things to make, things to perform, things to read, models for organisation, models for action, recipes for (avoiding) disaster, recipes for big dinners... to: info@wildpansypress.com www.wildpansypress.com

Tarantula Defends Territory Against Owner; Owner Almost Blinded

Got a pet tarantula? Better protect your eyes ----------------------- WASHINGTON Fri Jan 1, 2010 10:53am EST WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Here's some advice stemming from the unusual case of a man who had spider hairs stuck in his cornea: Be sure to cover your eyes when hanging around with your pet tarantula. Ophthalmologists at St. James's University Hospital in Leeds, England, used high magnification lenses to find out what made the man's eye red, watery and light-sensitive, according to a study reported in the British medical journal The Lancet on Thursday. They discovered hair-like projections stuck in the man's cornea. It was a light bulb moment for the patient, who remembered that three weeks earlier he had been cleaning a stubborn stain on the glass tank of his pet, a Chilean Rose tarantula. "He sensed movement in the terrarium. He turned his head and found that the tarantula, which was in close proximity, had released 'a mist of hairs' which hit his eyes and face," the doctors wrote. They said the man's condition was rare. The authors noted that the Chilean Rose tarantula releases the barbed hair on the back of its body to defend against predators. "We suggest that tarantula keepers be advised to routinely wear eye protection when handling these animals," the doctors said.   ----------------------- Ok, so he might not have been blinded, but in theory, he could have developed a horrible infection that could have blinded him.  I'm listing tarantulas next to porcupines as pets to not own. Wanted: A contraption to punch two parallel holes in a pumpkin (see pictures)

I really could use some help with this project.  I live in Williams Bay, Wisconsin and the Williams Bay Recreation Department and the Williams Bay Business Association hold a pumpkin race around Halloween.  The pumpkins have to have two parallel axles, four wheels.  I attached some pictures of what we have been using, but frankly it doesn't work.   The contraption we have is a piece of wood, 4x4, with two holes drilled into it.  We have two long screwdrivers that go through the holes.  Pumpkin pushed up against the wood and the scewdrivers shoved through.  We also took off the handle of a scewdriver and inserted it into a drill and that seems to work great.  However, the holes were never small enough and the screwdriver can move around inside, which defeats the whole purpose.  Also there are only two holes and that limites the size of pumpkin that can be used. I like the basic idea of this Pumpkin Punch.  We just didn't have the right tools or know-how to do it right. The axles have to be parallel or the pumpkin will not go straight.  We, the Rec Department,  use 5/16 threaded rod and six inch rubber wheels.  The morning of the race, volunteers help attach the wheels and axles for the children, which is why we need this contraption. I would also like an Instructable made on how to build a pumpkin racer so that the Rec Department can direct people to it for questions. Check out www.wbhalloween.com for some more information on our event. I hope there is someone that can help.  The next Pumpkin Race is set for October 30, 2010. Thanks

Who wants a 3 month Pro membership

Over that year or so I have won five 3-month PRO memberships, and would like to start giving them away.  I would like to start by giving 2 of them away in a contest of sorts.  I have seen others do this and this seems like an awesome way to do it.  So here goes Submit a new instructable, will say no older then... December 31st 2010 Try to make it as awesome as possible, cause i like to use the word awesome around here alot! I will be focusing on creativity and the ease of construction for people new to this site. You have to make it yourself, jobbing out to have something cut-out IE, Ponoko is great and all, and if I was closer would probably do it myself, but the average maker is stuck using rinky-dink power tools.  Making something with those rinky-dink power tools those is true awesomeness! On second thought, I have rented power tools before, step 4 is more less the same as this so what ever means you have is good! Dead-line of February 20, 2011 - I'll try to judge it as quick as possible That's about it I guess, make sure to message me, post a link, shoot a flaming arrow or something that gets my attention to your instructable and tell me why you deserve it. Random begging, flattery and bribing is also good Others that have done this before, please comment as to any pointers that may make this smoother!  Thanks!

I need help!

Greetings! I have never built an electronics project like this, however, I do understand the basics of what needs to be done. We are building a car that will run on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2010. What I am looking for is to build a device to show the difference in wheel speed between the front wheels and the drive wheels. The reasons for this is to give the pilot information on how much traction he is getting at the rear wheels. Since the engine and drive wheels are located 15 feet behind the driver, you cannot do this by ear (especially at 400+mph). The second reason is that the tires used at these speeds cost $800 each, there will be 4 drive wheels, that's $3200 worth of tires. Because of the speed, the tire treads are very, VERY thin, any spinning will destroy the tires in short order. It's not just a money thing, at 400+ getting a flat tire could be fatal. My current thought is to place wheel speed sensors at one front wheel and one drive wheel. That data will be collected and one value subtracted from the other. That difference will be presented to the pilot. I am not opposed to an LCD display or a series of lights that will indicate 5, 10,15, 20 and over 25mph difference. I am a computer programmer by trade and we are planning to integrate a PC into the car for data logging and tuning. I will have a complete CPU available managing the input and output. If we can use the PC to create an application to do this, it should not be an issue. If it is easier/better to build a chip-set to do this, we can go that route as well. I am open to any and all ideas, I have a rough idea of what needs to be done, just no knowledge of parts or processes to complete it. Thanks, Brandon.

Canada Set to Ban "Weed-n-Feed" Products

Re-evaluation Note REV2010-01, Uncoupling of Fertilizer-Pesticide Combination Products for Lawn and Turf Uses 2 February 2010 HC Pub: 100037 ISBN: 978-1-100-14700-0 (print version) ISBN: 978-1-100-14701-7 (PDF version) Catalogue number: H113-5/2010-1E (print version) Catalogue number: H113-5/2010-1E-PDF (PDF version) Table of Contents 1.0 Purpose 2.0 Scope 3.0 Background 4.0 Regulatory decision 1.0 Purpose This document is to communicate to stakeholders the decision to uncouple fertilizer-pesticide combination products intended for lawn and turf uses. 2.0 Scope This regulatory action is focussed on the lawn and turf uses of fertilizer-pesticide combination products on the following types of turf: Lawn turf planted in or around residences, as well as public and commercial buildings including schools and cemeteries Sports and recreational turf such as turf in parks, playgrounds, golf courses, zoos, botanical gardens and athletic playing fields These types of turf are collectively known as fine turf, which may be maintained by homeowners or by professional applicators. This regulatory action does not include agricultural uses of fertilizer-pesticide combination products (turf farms), or products that have a single active material with both fertilizer and pesticidal properties. 3.0 Background Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) regulates pesticides under the Pest Control Products Act including those intended for lawn and turf uses. All pesticide products that are registered for use and sale in Canada have undergone rigorous health and environmental risk assessments including the pesticides present in fertilizer-pesticide combinations. Pesticides are often combined with fertilizers and sold as fertilizer-pesticide combination products, which are regulated by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency under the Fertilizers Act. When pesticides are combined with fertilizer such that the two components can only be applied at the same time and to the same area, the delivery mechanism for the pesticide component is brought into question. The very nature of combination products removes the flexibility of applying the pesticide as a spot application due to the need to accommodate the fertilizer, which is designed for broadcast application to the entire lawn surface at specified times of the year. Pesticides should only be used when and where there is a need. Broadcast applications of pesticides over the whole area are warranted only for severe pest infestations that are widespread. As pest infestations are typically patchy, spot applications of pesticides to those areas are most often sufficient to ensure adequate control in turf. To be effective, fertilizers and pesticides must each be applied at the appropriate timings, which typically do not coincide. Fertilizers are most often applied in spring or early summer, and/or in late summer or fall. A spring-applied lawn fertilizer results in increased tillering and rapid growth as temperatures increase, resulting in turf of increased density. A fall-applied lawn fertilizer also results in increased tillering and may result in increased winter hardiness. The majority of pesticides found in pesticide-fertilizer combination products are broadleaf herbicides belonging to the synthetic auxin group of chemicals. This group of chemicals only controls broadleaf weeds that have emerged and are actively growing in the lawn. These herbicides are not preventative in that they will only control weeds that have emerged and they do not prevent weeds from becoming established in the lawn. Further, this group of chemicals is not long lasting in that they do not persist in the soil to prevent future weed infestations. Combination products have been purchased for their convenience and ease of use as a two-in-one product to address separate lawn maintenance issues (for example, nutrient deficiency and various pest infestations) with a single application. However, these products are unsuitable as a delivery mechanism because they support broadcast application of the pesticide when this might not be warranted. Ultimately, fertilizer and pesticide applications should be based on need. Fertilizer should only be used if the turf will benefit from additional nutrients, and pesticide should only be used as a broadcast treatment if the pest densities are sufficiently high across the area to be treated. Targeted, well-timed liquid formulations of pesticides minimize pesticide use on the lawn and turf sites. 4.0 Regulatory decision Based on consultation with the provinces, experts and registrants, the PMRA has concluded that fertilizer-pesticide combination products for lawn and turf uses do not support the goals of best practices for pest management in turf. The PMRA, in conjunction with Canadian Food Inspection Agency, is taking action to uncouple the fertilizer-pesticide combination products intended for lawn and turf uses. A date of last sale of 31 December 2012 for fertilizer-pesticide combination products for lawn and turf uses has been set in order to allow for replacement products to be made available where needed. Should situations arise to warrant the use of a fertilizer-pesticide combination product for lawn and turf uses, the PMRA will assess combination products in terms of the timing of application and flexibility to apply as a spot treatment, as well as potential risks to human health and the environment. The PMRA decision to uncouple fertilizer-pesticide combination products is not based on the health or environmental risk assessments but rather the nature of combination products. Combination products remove the flexibility of applying spot applications of the pesticide due to the need to accommodate the fertilizer, which is designed for broadcast application to the entire lawn surface at specified times of the year. Turf fertilizers will continue to be available for broadcast application when needed. Pesticide-only products will also continue to be available for lawn care use to homeowners and commercial applicators for either spot treatments of localized weed patches or for use as broadcast applications to severely infested turf areas when warranted. Although more time consuming, pest control in lawn and turf can be achieved with careful pesticide spot applications that target only the pests that are present and separate broadcast applications of fertilizers. Now if only the US were to follow suit...

Cosplaying next August, any one else?

Hey every one, huge making project coming up for me (in terms of time, not size) because I'm going to SMASH! Cosplay Convention, Sydney, Australia in August 2010. I'm going with a group of friends from my school as Vocaloid characters and I get to be Kaito! Would any one else in Australia be going? Any way, it should be awesome and I'm excited like hell even though it's 9 months away. I'll keep every one posted on how the out fit's going, I'm going to see if I can get the wig off eBay next week. Then we're all going to Spotlight (fabric store) a little after christmas to get a tonne of the same fabric, but different colors for each character. Then I'm doing the scarf, then the pants, then the undergarments and then the coat. Any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated, I'm not amazing at sewing but it should turn out alright, I'll probably start the coat about 6 months from now because I don't want to grow out of it before the convention! By the way, any tips on dying my hair / getting a wig of bright blue? And also, dying my eye brows? (God, this'll look weird at school...) Update #1        18/10/2009 More pictures. I've added some drawn pictures (mine) of my design, you can see the front and back here. First picture: Another cosplaying Vocaloid group, but no Gakupo or Megurine Luka. I'll be the one at the back left. Second picture: SMASH! convention logo.

How can I fix my DSi?

Okay, I have a DSi since 2010 (I don't remember when I bought it, so this could be false. Look, it's old. OK?) And it's been working fine untill one day. I turned it on, and the power light (blue in this case) turned on for a milisecond and then turned off. I tried it multiple times but nope. Plugging in the charger makes the charging light blink non-stop. So I tried opening up the DSi (I opended it up mutliple times before so the warranty is voided already. I also did it correctly the other times so opening it isn't the problem here) to find out what is wrong but I found nothing wrong in it! Sure, the ribbon cable connecting to the SD card is broken but it's been like that for years if I remember correctly. Battery was looking allright, took it out with a voltmeter, wasn't dead (Also, I doubt it static electricity because it wouldn't do ANYTHING). So, I closed it up and opended up the charger. Strangely enough, a piece of the charger's motherboard was cut off! Like someone took a bite! But how could I be using that charger for all this time and it was working. I won't use it again, defenitely. So I went to a store to try out the store's charger, it gets weirder. I plugged it in and the charging light flickered like before BUT, for only a couple of seconds. Anyway, I went home and couldn't figure it out what it is. Only thing I imagine is the charge port (the port where you put the cable to charge it, duh). I'm sorry if you cannot see the pictures very clear but my camera doesn't focus very well, and I'm not a profesional photographer to set the focus etc. So I'm writing now. Please help! Thanks

Convert 320VDC to 230VAC or 48VDC voltage using 230VAC (UK) UPS?

I've got access to 12 flexible Solar Panels - 320VDC each I live in the UK where mains voltage is 230VAC and also might buy an electric engine which would run at 48VDC. Would a UK voltage (230VAC) UPS be able to step down the 320VDC to either 230VAC or 48VDC for use on a boat? I'm thinking I could connect 12 panels in parallel and use either; Double-conversion UPS to deliver 48V by bypassing the conversion from the battery back to 230V or  Line-interactive UPS to deliver 230V directly from the 320VDC. The question is would the UPS's surge protection be able to deal with the high voltages? (Keeping in mind the sun isn't real bright in the UK). Also with regard efficiency will there be a lot of power loss in the system? I don't really know how surge protection from overvoltage works in UPS's and assume it uses some kind of buck conversion...? I'm guessing that the surge protection circuits might struggle with continued voltage overload. Does anyone know if this would be the case? The question is, will the UPS's be able to reliably deliver either 230VAC or 48VDC? Here are the specs for each individual panel; http://www.innoasia.net/2010/pdf/presentation/SmartCity_Takano.pdf Open circuit voltage(Voc): 429V Optimum power voltage(VMP):319 V Short circuit current(Isc): 0.39A Max operating current(IMP): 0.288A torrence:+_5% Maximum system voltage: 1000V THERMAL CHARACTERISTICS: (-25 ° C to +90 ° C) Temperature coefficient É‘Isc +0.08%/ ° C Temperature coefficient É‘Voc -0.35%/ ° C. Cabin photos from indie book release- Mobile shack/trailer/fort/camper made from trash

As promised, here's some photos of one of the newer JUNK CABINS I'm building.... AND...  http://relaxshax.wordpress.com/2010/01/    Its part of the indie book I just released on small houses/shacks... This cabin's nothing fancy, and stands at a mere 24 square feet, but it sleeps two (bunk-style), has a dutch style door (made from two recycled kitchen cabinet doors), and all in all is almost completely made from salvaged roadside/free materials- even most of the screws and nails. The paint (to make all the forklift pallet wood and scrap wood appear uniform) was unfortunately purchased (but after I sold some salvaged/found junk on craigslist). Also, The roof was originally made from mdf plywood/particle board from old stereo cabinets and tv armoirs (and an entire junked roll of roofing paper), but that proved too heavy for this wheeled/mobile cabin. In the endrun, I bit the bullet and bought some tuffex panels for roofing, which DOES give the interior some nice natural light- the only reason I decided to "cheat" with this route.      When finished, the cabin will have a mini-woodstove created from an old propane gas tank I nabbed at the dump (safety/workability pending), an outdoor kitchen/prep area attached to the cabin., and perhaps a small broken solar light kit I rewired and fixed. I'll also finish the wine-bottle window (not shown).    Anyway, thanks for looking!  Built to fit a trailer of mine, I'm eventually planning on hauling it up to my land in VT, where it can be used as lo-fi guest cabin or sorts, for those who always forget to bring tents.

Firefox won't work with pages on main Instructables page

I have Firefox 3.6 on WinXP. I have Javascript enabled but not Java. On the main Ible page are rows of Ibles. Each row is a category which shows 4 Ibls, followed by some page numbers, and a ">>" button for Next Page. Whenever I clikc a page number, or the >> Next Page button that row disappears. Sometimes the same Ibles appear in that row again even though multiple page number buttons are displayed. This function used to work, but stopped working about 2-4 weeks ago. Any ideas how to fix this? I have no other problems with any other website or forum. I do have Adblock but that only blocks images matching certain servers. I also have Flashblock. It'd be very much appreciated. So Ive just recently taken up amigurumi and Ive done some basic things like poke balls and mario mushrooms, easy enough. However,I want to move on to makng dolls. In particular I want to make a Naruto doll like the one in the link Ive attached. Im finding it difficult to find a pattern for this exact shape of doll though, and also I think I would like to make it smaller anyway.... would anyone be able to give me any advice on this? Actually if anyone knew of any video tutorials on making this shape doll that'd be even better. Also, regarding the colour change in the body, I know how to do a basic colour change where you would have say a row of red and then you change it to white so that the whole next row is white, but if you look at this doll there's a line of black going vertically up his torso and Im not sure how I would go about this type of colour change? It seems complicated? Like I said I would be sooooo grateful for any help anyone could give... I want to make this for someone special :) Thanks guys :)

VBA Code for finding the 10th percentile value for a certain bin Range?

Hello everyone I hope that you all are fine. I have an excel sheet, and I am trying to bring some sort of automation in to that sheet (since I use it quite often) with the help of macros. The fact is that I am really new to macros and VBA programming language, so I need a little help in writing the code to find the 10th percentile for each bin value (50, 100, 150). If you see the picture attached, the wanted percentile values are in Q, the bins for which I want to find the 10th percentile value, are given in Column M and the main data on which the 10 percentile value will be based is given in Column D. I can give the excel sheet as well if someone want to try hand on it, and let's me know the email address. Additional Note: (The spread sheet is sorted out with respect to column E, is Ascending order (50, 100, 150) and the number of count for each bin width is given in column O, so you can just find the range of each bin by adding the count for each bin i.e range for first bin (50) is from 1 to 1+8542, similarly the range for the second bin (100) is given by 1+8542 to 1+8542+6862. I will be very grateful if someone spares some time for me. Kind Regards raishikoh

So why does the newsletter (28/03/10) have "old" ible's?

So I presume many of you who frequent the instructables site are all signed in to the newsletter. Now maybe you have noticed anything about the newsletter you got today but I have! And that is that the newsletter doesn't have any new ible's! I have been noticing that it has happend before so when I got the latest newsletter (28/03/10) I decided to investigate if I was right. I clicked on every ible that was in the newsletter and noticed that none of these ibles were created  in 2010! All the ibles were dated from December 2006 to december 2009! So my question is, why? I know there were some good ibles since the last newsletter. And many new ibles got featured every day! I have searched for some examples I find newsletter worthy and I would definitly go to the site if I saw these and didn't know them before: www.instructables.com/id/Pallet-Adirondack-Chair/ www.instructables.com/id/DIY-R2D2-Lamp-from-10-IKEA-lamp/ www.instructables.com/id/Red-Oak-Pyramid-Bow/ www.instructables.com/id/Leather-Steampunk-Top-Hat/ Just some examples from the top of my hat. I've been going through my emails and I noticed you send a newsletter the 25th (25/03/10) that did have alot of new ibles. So what is the problem? Did robot screw up the newsletter list or is there some sort of cycle going on? (first one with fresh ibles then one with old ones some people may not have found yet). I think you guys do great work keeping this site up and running and dealing with our problems so to make things clear this isn't hostile or anything. I was just wondering why you suddenly send a newsletter with old ibles when there are so many new good ones?

Hanukah Candles (Left Overs)

Hey guys, I was wondering if a heat pad would work for melting wax. Since each year in Hanukah I use the left over wax to TRY and make candles. Here are the things I did. 2006: Used small tin foil molds. I didn't know how to make a wick then so I just used string. That was a FAILURE TOO. The string or so called wick didn't burn and just went to flames and didn't melt the wax and all it did was stay lit for 5 seconds. 2007: Kept wax and saved 2008: Kept wax and saved 2009: Used wax and try to put two blocks of wood together with a vice and drill a hole through the crack of both blocks of wood. It didn't work like I thought it would. The drill went all the way down the drill bit was atleast 5 in. long and it won't all the way down but when I poured the wax it didn't fill and over flowed. When I opened it up to try and see if there was a candle... well lets just say it turned out to be a half inch tall candle... and was about 1/5 of inch in diameter. I tried the to make a candle in a pot holder and forgot about the hole in the center then all the wax fell on the street and I didn't notice. It was such a pain to clean it off because it was on somebody elses lawn and I didn't want to mess up there lawn. WELL THAT WAS A FAILURE. 2010: This year I'm going to try to make scented candles. I'm going to use Tin Coke cans. I hope this works. I might use a heat pad since my mom doesn't want me to make wax in her cooking pans. If you have any suggestions send me E-MAILS at rexdino@sbcglobal.net or just post a message or private message me. I would prefer E-mail since I almost never check this website because I have about 20 other sites I have to check.

Facebook "Like" banner and firewall blocking -- backed out

UPDATE 5/4/2010: It looks like the new banner has been backed out. The original "orange box" with JavaScript drivers to FB, Twitter, etc. is back in place. UPDATE:  Kiteman has reported that the new Facebook "Like" banner has an even worse effect for some users.  With some filtering software, the transitive link through I'bles to Facebook causes the entire Instructables site itself to be blocked out (i.e., the filter is preventing pass-through access), and may also shut down the browser completely (the way China was blocking Google). That means any of our users who, at school or at work, are behind that style of filter are completely blocked from accessing Instructables, and have no way of letting us know about this.  In my opinion, that is too high a price to pay for the supposed benefit of cross-linking to a social network. (Note: I'm putting this in Help:Bugs because I consider it a broken or inappropriate result of a newly deployed feature.)   Shortly after I posted my Feedback topic about the new Like button, user LoneWolf commented that he did not see what I was talking about.  All he got was a large blue banner saying ACCESS DENIED!  RavingMadStudios figured out that this is because he's viewing Instructables from behind a firewall where Facebook (and presumably other sites) are blocked. Now, I am a little perturbed that you guys are forcing my computer access stuff from Facebook, which opens me up to all the usual nasty harvesting that I have tried to avoid by never ever using Facebook. But that's not the point of this posting. I think the giant ACCESS DENIED! banner detracts from the site's image, and can also be misleading to users. If someone sees that on an I'ble, does it mean that they aren't allowed to look at any of the Steps? They're not allowed to print it out? What's going on here? Do you think your new programmer might be able to cook up a little bit of JavaScript, to run on the client side, which could tell whether Facebook is accessible or not? If it is not, the script would simply put nothing where the Like button is now. If it is accessible, then business as usual.

Here is what you do: You put a comment below saying 'GIVE ME A TRIBUTE' and then I will pull a random knexer's name on this site out of a hat (there is about 100 names in there) and tell you who you got, then you can make them a small tribute. Ways to show your appreciation/tribute: Send them a patch Draw them a picture of them or their name (make it awesome) Build some of their guns/models and take a picture of you and his/her's guns/models Write their name in knex (Look at TheDunkis' profile image for an example) Make a model of them from knex Make a model of them from anything! :-) Or any other thing you can think of! So anyway, I hope you will all show your support by joining in and having fun! Below I will list your name and next to it the persons name who you are going to make the tribute for. Please don't be unsupportive and drop out if you do not get someone who you hoped for, be a good sport! :-) Also, below I have shown a few pictures of me and my big graffiti version of DJ Radio's name that I drew around a week ago. Valley View Park Update 1

Here's the first update of Valley View Park. Please see the first forum before seeing this one.                                                         June 2010 The park has undergone several changes during the last few months. First of all the main street has been redone with a brick paving as seen in pictures 1 and 2. Peeps seem to like this change as it gives the main street a more "main" feel to it. Blackbeard's voyage has continued to attract a lot of guests as seen in pic 3. The Castle surrounding it gives the peeps a ride to remember. Pic 4 shows the viewing tower which has started to be demolished as not many people have visited the tower. Mr. Fredrickson says that the park will replace the tower with another ride. As we can see in pic 5 Inversion Spinner continues to attract a large amount of peeps due to the intensity of the ride. It has become the most popular ride in the park. Python is also very popular although we can see in pic 6 that a new sign has been put up. It says to wait for the previous person to arrive at the bottom of the slide before you go down. This has been put up because of some accidents that have happened. In the next pic(7) we can see a new ride that has apparently replaced twister as it was not very popular. In pic 8 we can see a large amount of peeps going to the new ride. Pic 9 shows the entrance to the new ride DESTRUCTION. Pic 10 shows that it is a revolution ride that has replaced twister. The new ride attracts much more people than the previous ride. In pic 11 we can see that the park has been able to buy some new land. The barren field was bought but the owner has not revealed what he plans to use it for. This new property has elarged the park. In pic 12 we see that junior wheel has been practically deserted. It would not be a surprise to see this ride demolished. Pic 13 shows an overview of the park. The future of this park lies in the hands of Mr. Fredrickson.

Cannot install files over 100~ MB???

So a couple of months ago i downloaded saints row 3 *crack* from blackbox, i install but at 25% of installation it says "Decompression failed. Error -7". I thought is was a problem with the installer. Then i downloaded Grand Theft Auto IV (wonderful game i mite say), and it comes up with non stop "CRC Error. Needs orijinal CD" or something.  ---this is where i got suspicious. Then Battlefield 3. That is the moment i started to hate computers. Dying light, that was my limit.
