"5 volt limit" circuit? Answered

Is there a circuit that will take a range of voltages and make all of the voltages that are over 5 volts be 5 volts  like so: 3.5 => 3.5  4.2 => 4.2 4.9 => 4.9 5.1 => 5.0 6.3 => 5.0

Potential $5 RC Hovercraft

Hey y'all, I was bored, so I made this RC hovercraft, kinda like a Tiny Whoov, from the guts of a $5 RC helicopter (sold at most FiveBelows). The idea is that a hovercraft is more fun than a cruddy helicopter, in addition to being a fun and easy DIY project for the weekend. It could be a nice gift to a kid. My first concern was that the motors would not provide enough power to get the thing moving. They give more than enough power, and this thing can MOVE. My second concern is that the differential thrust steering system (one motor turns faster than the other, steering the hovercraft) would not be effective enough. This is still a problem that I don't have the enthusiasm or time to solve anymore. Maybe someone could figure out how to reprogram the FC board to have more differential thrust (is that possible?), or somehow configure a servo or actuator without raising the cost of materials too much. Anyway, here's the concept, go have fun with it.Supplies:Foam platesHot glue$5 RC helicopter with 2 motors and receiver (LED optional, but really cool)Connector (the battery might be soldered directly to the FC board, so this will make it easier to fiddle with)Soldering iron (not %100 necessary, but it can come in handy)Propellers (see design notes)Design notes:Notice how the underside of the hull is curved and smooth. I used propellers from a Blade Inductrix FPV Pro, but any micro quad propellers should work. Notice the nice little compartment under the FC board where you can stick a battery without the need for Velcro or glue. This would be a very easy FPV mod, but that would add about $20 to the cost.

Li-ion 5 pin, pinout?

Good Day Fellow TinkerersI have a battery that came out of a Android Tablet that i want to use for another project.It has a cuircuit board attache to the top which i would assume is a over/under charge protector and it has 5 wires coming off of that. 2 x Red, 1 x White and 2 x Black.The two black wires are connected to the same pad on the "protection circuit" and the two red are connected to the same pad. The white wire is on a separate pad i.e. 3 pads, 1 with 2x red, 1 with 2 x black and 1 with 1 x white.I figure the Red would be positive and the Black negative and then i would assume that the white is the Thermistor connection.My Question :How do i connect this externally from the tablet to charge? I figure red and black are the usual, but how do i connect the white wire?Thanks in advance for any help :)

Paper Airplane Contest 5 (Closed)

Although my previous PAC4 competition failed to attract any entries, I have decided to reboot it—with relaxed specifications. Paper Airplane Contest 5 (PAC5) takes a step back, decreasing the minimum range requirement by 10%, and the decreasing the longevity requirement by 33%. I specifically designed this contest to appeal to the concerns of those who analyzed the specifications of PAC4. For this contest, the specification is again for a long range plane. Requirements: 1. Aircraft Requirements: • Ability to fly at least 50 feet from a launch height of 5 feet or higher • Durability to fly at least 20 flights • Provisions for landing gear and/or skids (not required for flying wings) • Use of less than 8 inches of Scotch tape in construction • Use of less than 3 pieces of 8.5 by 11 inch (A4) paper in construction • Usage of glue or wood (excluding toothpicks) is prohibited • Aircraft must be named 2. Instructables Requirements: • 1 page strictly devoted to materials required in construction • 1 page explaining how to fly the aircraft • The instructable's license must be: "Attribution Non-commercial Share Alike (by-nc-sa)" • This sentence and link must be displayed on your entry's intro page: “This instructable is an entry in Paper Airplane Contest 5 (https://www.instructables.com/community/Paper-Airplane-Contest-5/)” Prizes: For this contest I will award the publishers of the top 5 performing paper airplanes* one patch each. However, unlike previous contests, each patch will feature its respective aircraft, rather than medals. The first place winner will also receive a 3 month Instructables Pro membership. *Multiple entries are allowed. To keep the distribution of patches wide however, each entrant can only win one prize. How to Enter: To enter this contest, you must send me a private message entitled “My Paper Airplane [Member Name Here]” with your instructable's URL included. I will then put the link and author's name onto a list on this topic under "Entries". Judging: For this contest, I have decided that I will judge all the planes myself based on abilities. I have decided this way because I believe judging on performance rather than shape is a more objective approach. The contest begins Friday, May 27, 2011 and ends Thursday, June 30, 2011. Entries must be published before Thursday, June 30, 2011. From July 1 to July 3, I will be judging all entries. I will announce the winners of the contest on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 and issue them their prizes Wednesday, July 6, 2011. Entries: DJ Radio: "Super Bullet" (https://www.instructables.com/id/The-Super-bullet-Possibly-the-fastest-paper-air/) The Skinnerz: "Goose" (https://www.instructables.com/id/Goose-Paper-Glider/) heavyfire88: "The 50 Calb." (https://www.instructables.com/id/The-50-Calb/) Results: 1st Place: “heavyfire88”: “The 50 Calb.” (https://www.instructables.com/id/The-50-Calb/) 2nd Place: “DJ Radio”: “Super Bullet” (https://www.instructables.com/id/The-Super-bullet-Possibly-the-fastest-paper-air/) 3rd Place: “The Skinnerz” “Goose” (https://www.instructables.com/id/Goose-Paper-Glider/)

Amplify 1.5v DC to 5+v DC?

Hi, Anyone know if I can amplify 1.5v DC to 5+v DC (pretty much any value over 5 works) using the LM358 IC (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9456)? The datasheet (http://www.sparkfun.com/datasheets/Components/General/LM358.pdf) specifies the power supply range as 3V to 32V however the input voltage range is -0.3V to 32V (top of datasheet page 2). I've done some googling but I'm still not sure about the difference between these two.  Any tips or links on wiring this guy up would be awesome, Thanks!

ESP8266-01 DTH22 5 minute Delay?

Hi, I want to add a DHT22 sensor node to my Openhab setup. A simple way to do this is by using a ESP8266-01; I have a few around. I use the Arduino 1.6.5 IDE since that is what I have. I am having problems with the timing of the loop: I do not need readings every minute or so, 5-10 minutes is more then enough; I do not need that much data. I also want to run the node on batteries in the future so less transmissions is what I want. However, when I use a delay of more then approx. 24000 mils the ESP stops working, lower values are no problem.  I have tried several approaches, none work. Can anyone help me out? The sketch I use is below, you can see what I tried in the comments: #include #include #include const char* ssid = "Yggdrasil"; const char* password = "XXXXXXXXX"; char* topic_t = "openhab/esp8266-1/temp"; char* topic_h = "openhab/esp8266-1/vocht"; char* server = "192.168.X.X"; String clientName = "esp8266-1"; //time peter, idea taken from https://www.safaribooksonline.com/library/view/arduino-cookbook-2nd/9781449321185/ch12.html const long oneSecond = 1000;  // a second is a thousand milliseconds const long oneMinute = oneSecond * 60; const long fiveMinutes = oneMinute * 5; //time peter #define DHTPIN 2 // what pin we're connected to #define DHTTYPE DHT22 // DHT 11 DHT dht(DHTPIN, DHTTYPE,15); WiFiClient wifiClient; PubSubClient client(server, 1883, callback, wifiClient); void callback(char* topic, byte* payload, unsigned int length) { // handle message arrived } void setup() { Serial.begin(115200); delay(10); dht.begin(); Serial.println(); Serial.println(); Serial.print("Connecting to "); Serial.println(ssid); WiFi.begin(ssid, password); while (WiFi.status() != WL_CONNECTED) { delay(500); Serial.print("."); } Serial.println(""); Serial.println("WiFi connected"); Serial.println("IP address: "); Serial.println(WiFi.localIP()); Serial.print("Connecting to "); Serial.print(server); Serial.print(" as "); Serial.println(clientName); if (client.connect((char*) clientName.c_str())) { Serial.println("Connected to MQTT broker"); Serial.print("Topic is: "); Serial.println(topic_t); Serial.println(topic_h); } else { Serial.println("MQTT connect failed"); Serial.println("Will reset and try again..."); abort(); } } void loop() { float h = dht.readHumidity(); float t = dht.readTemperature(); if (isnan(h) || isnan(t)) { Serial.println("Failed to read from DHT sensor!"); return; } static int counter = 0; String payload ; payload += t; //payload += ":"; //payload += h; String payloadh ; payloadh += h; if (client.connected()){ Serial.print("Sending payload: "); Serial.println(payload); if (client.publish(topic_t, (char*) payload.c_str())) { Serial.println("Publish ok"); } else { Serial.println("Publish failed"); } //peter if (client.connected()){ Serial.print("Sending payload: "); Serial.println(payloadh); if (client.publish(topic_h, (char*) payloadh.c_str())) { Serial.println("Publish ok"); } else { Serial.println("Publish failed"); }} //peter } else { if (client.connect((char*) clientName.c_str())) { Serial.println("Connected to MQTT broker"); Serial.print("Topic is: "); Serial.println(topic_t); Serial.println(topic_h); } } // delay (20000); //WORKS FINE // delay(5*60*1000); //STOPS AFTER FIRST READING AT STARTUP delay(fiveMinutes); // STOPS AFTER FIRST READING AT STARTUP }

What is a suitable portable power supply for 5 servos?

For a project 5 servos are needed. Currently I am thinking of using a 9V battery to power them, but several articles say that the 9V would not be sufficient or it would destroy the servo. Some articles claim that using a voltage regulator would work, others say to use a higher power battery preferably a LiPo battery. The servos used are 5 Micro Servo SG90 servos. So if a 9V could be used what is the appropriate method? If instead of using a 9V battery a LiPo should be used what should the power of the battery be?

How to get 5 volts from 4xAA batteries?

Hi all! Whats the best way to get a nice circuit friendly 5 volts from 4xAA batteries? Measuring some brand new AAs, they're about 1.6v when new, which drops under load, I know. So four AAs of course add up to 6.4v, possibly blowing my low current circuit. And isn't a 7805 voltage regulator only good with aroundabouts 7-8 volts source because of how they work? Plus DC-DC converters are expensive, and resistors are wasteful. :-) Thanks!

eBook downloads in Firefox 4, 5, 6, AND 7

I am hoping I am not the only one with this issue: The new ebook downloads are currently very difficult to download in Firefox here. In Firefox 4-6, the links that should show up are covered almost completely by the text box above them, leaving a two pixel high sliver that can be clicked on. This makes it very hard to download the ebooks in Firefox. In Firefox 7, the buttons are mostly covered. You cannot read the text, but you can at least tell the buttons are there, as a 10 pixel high orange stripe appears. The links work normally in other browsers I have installed (Iron, Opera), as well in Firefox 3.6.x (confirmed from another user's computer). I've attached a screenshot that exemplifies this issue. For reference, I'm doing this on Windows 7 x86, SP1. Display resolutions are 1600x900 pixels for secondary, 1900x1080 pixels for primary. 96 DPI - nothing strange here. I have gone as far as reinstalling the operating system, with no change. I also have a Linux machine running Firefox 7, on which I cannot replicate this issue, even with the same set of add-ons installed to it. On Windows: Current browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1 On Linux: Current browser: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1 Update: This issue has persisted for four full versions of Firefox, and STILL hasn't been addressed by staff. This is why I let my Pro subscription lapse, and don't want to renew it.

What's the best way to lower 6 volts to 5 volts?

Hey friends!  I have a question. I want to be able to use 4 AAA batteries (6v) to power an IC. The IC's max voltage is 5.5. Is there any kind of way I can use two resistors as a voltage divider to lower the voltage 1 volt or should I just use a diode(which would lower it by 1.4v)? Thanks!

5 mm led's 8 LUMENS PER WATT!?!?!? [answered] Answered

Well i was thinking, 5mm LED's take about 1/10 of a watt, correct?  and from this calculator found out Cree 5mm led's are .806 lumen's. i assume they are 1 tenth of a watt. well, my calculator states they are 8 lumen's per watt (if i could run them at a watt.)  i figure they are 1/10 of a watt because because this 500 led light makes takes about 50W as in the video and led's give less than a lumen of light. so far, it seems leds just last long and emit blueish light. is incandescent light better? with 20 lumens per watt from halogen?
