Momentary switch to Bluetooth

I'd like to make a number of smallish (say 0.75x1x2 inches) battery-powered Bluetooth boxes each of which connects to a momentary switch, and sends an RFCOMM or HID signal via Bluetooth on depression and another on release, and which will to communicate with an Android device. Because I want to make several of these, I want something super cheap and super simple to make.  (The purpose is to make a simple wireless touch detection system for foil and epee fencing. Without on-target detection, it's not going to be great, but it will be an improvement over refereeing fully dry bouts, since at least one will have proper impact and lockout timing.) Here are options I've been thinking about: 1. One thing that would *almost* do the job is to buy one of those $3-5 ebay Bluetooth phone camera remotes, and just wire my switch to it. The only problem is that according to the ads I've seen, these Bluetooth phone camera remotes go to sleep in 2-10 minutes when paired (exact timing seems to depend on the model), and I would really rather avoid this (the 10 minutes is almost acceptable). If anybody knows of a way of keeping them paired and awake for a longer period of time (say, 15 minutes or permanently), I would love to hear. This would be the cheapest and simplest solution, and it comes with a case and battery (some units are even USB chargeable).  2. On the other extreme of the price range, I happen to have some extra Brainlink modules with an atxmega and an RN-42 module inside, and it wouldn't take long to customize the firmware to do the job. But the modules sell for $39 (though sometimes on sale for $20), and that seems overkill for something so simple. And they are a touch larger than I like (about 3 inches diameter, and an awkward shape). 3. Another option might be to use a cheap serial Bluetooth module without additional hardware, and wire the switch directly to CTS. Unfortunately, I don't think the cheap HC-06 modules support CTS, though I think the HC-07 does support it (but I don't know if I can access it as it's probably not one of the pins on the header). Moreover, there are two unanswered questions on Stackexchange on how to access CTS/RTS status from Android, so this might require using a laptop as the base station (which isn't ideal). 4. A very cheap microcontroller with a UART (or just bit-banging) plus a cheap Bluetooth module. This increases the complexity of the project, but might be the way to go. More specific recommendations are welcome, as I have no experience with the hardware side of dealing with a microcontroller (on the software side, I've spent a fair amount of time tweaking the firmware of the Brainlink unit).

[Arduino] Problem connection Bluetooth

Hi all, A while ago I got a HC06 bluetooth module. In the beginning everything worked OK, but now some problems have appeared. Pairing in Android works fine, as well as with my laptop. The problem arises when connecting my phone (Google Android 4.2 with Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR) to the device. BlueTooth Serial Controller 16 seems the only working app, but I would like to use my own application, based on the code described here https://www.instructables.com/id/Android-Bluetooth-Control-LED-Part-2/step8/Download/ Also other apps like BlueSerial Beta and Bluetooth ssp pro do not work. Does anyone have a clue how to solve this problem? Many thanks in advance. Regards, Zytro

want to add built-in bluetooth audio receiver to an active Speaker

I like to add a bluetooth audio receiver to a Sonos Active speaker. I would like to build it inside the speaker so it looks nice too. I assume I have to get one of the Bluetooth Audio receiver boards like this http://www.dx.com/p/xs3868-bluetooth-v2-0-stereo-audio-module-green-385930#.VVPymNNViuc . I think I should be able to find a 5volt connection somewhere in the Sonos speaker to power this unit and then have to hook it up to the AUX connection in parallel to get the audio going.  I was wondering if someone knows of a good bluetooth audio adapter that can pair multiple devices.  Also any other ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks

Looking for some help with a mod.   I need the guts of a bluetooth receiver or headphones(just the bluetooth module) installed into the housing of a hearing aid.  Basically just the receiving module I dont need to talk on it, it is just for audio.  I don't need or want the hearing aid parts to work or anything else inside it other then the bluetooth receiver.  obviously I need the audio from the bluetooth to come out of it though. I just need it to be rechargeable.  I will provide all the materials.   That's all I am looking for and am willing to pay for the time.

Bluetooth repeater

This is actually a question, for a group who appear to be the real hackers of science. OK, so much for the butter.. here's my question: I've seen an add for a Bluetooth device which will connect up to five headsets, forum style. But at 400 plus shipping, U.S., I was wondering if there might be another... more techie... cheaper way to do it. I only need to couple two headsets, but I understand that headsets don't have the smarts to be able to pair with each other. Any takers? Anyone do this before? Thanks, Stan

Hello Everyone, I love tinkering with electronics. While it is easier to go out and just buy some things that people make, it is far more fun to actually make something that looks unique and different. I love to try and repurpose things. I have been trying desparately to figure out how to make a wireless home phone that I have hanging around at home bluetooth capable so I can answer my cell phone calls with the wireless home phone handset. I know this would involve taking a bluetooth blueant or hands free device and wiring it into the home phone base, but I do not know where to wire it in.  You know how the wireless home phone handsets always have a "Master" phone base that receives the calls and then communicates with the handsets so one is able to answer the calls on whatever handset is the most handy, well that is how I want the bluetooth adaptation to work. So to re-iterate in case my explanation is as clear as mud, which it probably is, I want to take a wireless home phone system that has the master phone base with wireless handsets and make it bluetooth, BUT the hitch is I still want the calls from my cell phone to come through it just as it would with a home phone telephone line, so that I can answer my cell phone calls with the wireless/cordless handset. Of course, I do not know if this is possible, but I sure hope an electronics gadget guru out there can help me with this project that I have been anxiously trying to complete. Many Thanks for reading, Ambles

blutooth telephone

Hi people who are smarter than me! I have been searching the great Google for the past while and I cannot find something that does this. I love the portability of cellphones and i love the look an feel of landlines (you cannot beat the look of a phone on a a desk. What I want is a device that connects to my cellular telephone wirelessly and that a landline can plug into. This means that it must supply about 40 - 60 VDC to power an old phone that DOES NOT HAVE EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY so it could operate a touch tone phone from the 80's and 90's. When I get a call on my phone I want it to ring the phone. When I pick up the handset I want it to answer the call and allow me to talk to the person. When I place a call I want to be able to pick up the handset and then dial a 10 digit number and then it place the call through my cell phone. During the call I want to be able to press a number on the landline and for it to press that number on my phones keypad. when i put the handset down i want it to hang up. Is this even possible? can it be done? let me know! Thanks! scott

bluetooth 4 transmitter to headphone latency reduction

Hey everyone! i'm seeking some advice about a system i've been trying to work out - a bluetooth audio headset from a PA system for vocal monitoring during band rehearsals. currently i'm running microphone -> PA -> bluetooth 4.0 AD2P compatible audio transmitter -> powerbeats bluetooth 4.2 headphones the connection is working fine, the only issue is latency between microphone and headphones (approximately half a second), which makes it very difficult to use as a monitor as i require very minimal latency to hear my voice in synchronisation with the rest of the band. a few questions; does bluetooth simply have an unavoidable lag due to data compression? is it possible for me to hack the bluetooth transmitter in some way to increase the rate of compression/transmission? what would you recommend as a cheap substitute in the event that nothing can be done? thanks very in much in advance, Austin

Bluetooth to landline phone

Hello, I would like to use the bluetooth headset I use with my cell phone for my landline phone at home. There are oodles of instructions out there on how to hack headsets to put them into old phones, I am looking for the opposite. Apparently Jabra used to make something that could have got me started (I believe it was called an A210) but that doesn't seem to be sold any longer. There are some wireless phones out there that incorporate bluetooth, but why add a battery operated wireless phone to a wireless headset - the bluetooth range would give me what I need to stay unencumbered. I have an old cell I could hack apart but I suspect that it would be tricky to get its bluetooth hacked into the analog phone line... Any thoughts? berserk

Android and windows 8 Bluetooth

But I might get the new windows 8 phones and I don't see any windows 8 phone projects. I would assume that I could easily connect to the Bluetooth module and but what about the app.? Does anyone know where I could possibly find a tutorial?  Please help!

Covert bluetooth dongle to mini USB?

Having purchased an android tablet with mini USB ports I have finally got my tiny USB bluetooth dongle to work with it using the provided OTG USB to mini USB cable. I was wondering if anyone has dismantled a bluetooth dongle and fitted it with a mini USB connector? I think it would be so much better to have it sitting directly flush to the tablet rather than having it hanging out at the end of a cable. Would this be easy to do or should I leave well alone? Thanks Gaz.
