Toxicity of chromium

Does anyone know the toxicity of chromium, or more specifically the toxicity of burning something chrome plated?

search input

Over a year ago I searched for "Swamp Cooler" in Instructables.  Ever since then, no matter what I search for, the search data is erased and "swamp cooler" is automatically entered.

New photo uploader broken

The new flash uploader is broken. I can still select it, but it presents with no upload or browse button, so I have to use the old one. it's lightning fast today, but still annoying to have to individually select the pictures. This error comes up consistently since late last night in chromium.

Can't save profile website url with https://

Hi, I'm trying to add a profile URL at the settings page. Our website is https only, but if I add an URL starting with "https://", then after save the "http://" part will be added to the front of the URL, resulting in something like "http://https://mysite.com". Attached screenshot after saving. I don't think it's a system issue, but anyways, same experience both with Firefox 39.0 and Chromium 44.0.2403.107, on Arch Linux 64-bit. The problem is at https://www.instructables.com/you on the Settings tab. Cheers!

Unable to ask a question anonymously

I am unable to post a question anonymously. It will allow me to fill out the form to do so, but when I hit "preview", I am sent to a login page. It will only allow me to continue if I enter my username and password. I followed the link from the home page, and I logged out to try this. OS - Vista Tested in the following browsers: FireFox v 3.0.5 Chromium v 2.0.159.0 (8613) Chrome v 1.0.154.43 Internet Explorer v 7.0.6001.18000 (bleh!)

Facebook connect doesn't work on Firefox (linux)

Hello, Facebook connect doesn't work on firefox 20.0.1. O.S: Archlinux, kernel version: 3.8.7-1-ARCH. It works on chromium 26.0.1410.63 (192696). Step to reproduce: from the main page, choose facebook login from the upper right corner. Nothing happens when I click on it. If I copy the URL in a new tab, at least I get an error from facebook: "Given URL is not permitted by the application configuration.: One or more of the given URLs is not allowed by the App's settings. It must match the Website URL or Canvas URL, or the domain must be a subdomain of one of the App's domains."

Can't change license of published instructable

Hi, I have some instructables that was posted under one license by a team member (e.g. CC-BY-SA) and I want to re-licese (to "CC-BY"). I was trying to do the following: * go to the instructable in question * hit Author Options: Edit, * hit publish * change the license value to the desired one * hit save I got a message in the UI that "saved", but if I refresh on the page, or go back to the instructable in question, it still shows the original license, and nothing has actually been saved. Any idea? Tried both Firefox 39.0 and Chromium 44.0.2403.107, on Arch Linux 64-bit, without success (license cannot be changed). Tried for example  this, this, or this instructables.

HTML formatting lost on Instructable

I use html to format my list of parts into a table, like this page.  Recently the formatting was somehow lost on this page which is a bummer because it took a while to create the html.  The page was fine for at least a year.  I don't know exactly when the html was lost but I suspect it happened a few weeks ago (October 12th) when I edited a different page on the same instructable.  It's possible that I edited the Instructable while my Pro membership was expired.  I definitely did not edit the page with the html formatting. OS: Linux Ubuntu 14.10 Browser: Chromium 37.0.2062.120 Is there any chance of reverting that page (or even the Instructable) back to a date before the HTML was stripped out?

Can't publish a collection.

Hi, I am having a problem trying to publish a collection. When I hit publish, I get an error message that says "Opps, something went wrong!". If I click the x on the message the message goes a way but the Publish Your Collection pop up stays with a cursor that spins forever. Please look at the screenshot for reference. Here is as much information as I can provide. Collection id is OYNUVW5IAWDJBHYU, currently listed as a draft collection. Slackware Linux 14.1 Firefox 31.7.0 Chromium 43.0.2357.130 (64 bit) https://www.instructables.com/editCollection/OYNUVW5IAWDJBHY The steps to reproduce this is: Select You -> Drafts Find my Collection and press draft (url above). Press Publish Press Publish on Choose Cover Image pop up. I get the error message.

How to fix "Please excuse me, that was very impolite!"

Instructables users whose native language is not English may sometimes get this error: "Please excuse me, that was very impolite! Exception javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: ServletException in '/common/newlayout.jspx': Can't insert page '/pages/explore/type/instructable_body.jsp' : ISO-8859-10 blah blah blah to the end of the error page" The solution (or rather a workaround) is to change the order of preffered languages so that english(en-US or en) would be the topmost preffered language. If using Firefox, you should go to Preferences->Content and then reorder preferred languages. On Chrome(or Chromium) you can access the list by clicking on the wrench icon, then Preferences->Under the hood->Change the font and language settings->Language.

Acrylic Heating Element - Questions for an electrician and acrylic expert

I'm trying to build a heating element suspended 1" from an aluminum surface, and 2" below what will be a piece of acrylic (hopefully up to 1/2" thick) suspended by aluminum covered 2x4's. I want to have a rheostat (I think that's what they're called) for variable control of the heating element. The width of the element is undetermined, although 1/2" is probably close and this may be of little relevance. The aluminum case itself is 21"x6" and 3" deep So far, I've harvested a coil of Nickel Chromium from a cheap space heater but in trying to create a suspended piece, I've done little but destroy my NiChrom. It was cool, sparks and all, but I'd like to get it right this time. I do not wish to use a torch or heat gun as the pieces are to be wide and the heat must be even over the width to create an aesthetic bend. I will post some photos of the pieces tomorrow. Feel free to throw your hat in on any questions you want to answer. Electric Questions: How much NiChrom. do I need to heat 1/2" acrylic to around 400 degrees (F) for malleabiity? What is the best way to mount or suspend the nichrom.? What is the appropriate method to attach NiChrome to the wiring? (My home made coil using 1/16" copper wiring as a cast was sound in theory, but practice yielded sagging of the strip when active, and eventually sparky explosions at the mounts, after which time this question came to mind.) What kind of Rheostat do I need? What kinds are there? What's the difference? Can I get away with using a 120v/600w Dimmer switch instead (please say 'yes')? Acrylic Questions: What is the ideal heat for bending thicker acrylics? Would a fan below the heating element help disperse the heat evenly over the acrylic, or mess up the dispersion? Can a heating element such as this create sufficient heat to 'weld' 2 pieces together? Is this even possible? Thanks. I'm sure I'll have more questions before you can answer those. Peace - Ian.Wms

One bug, one inconvenience

Hey all, Instructables is an amazing website, spend a lot of time in the electronics section! Haven't had time to make my first instructable yet, but getting ready too shortly! I found two bugs, one that doesn't hinder usability but it has a huge annoyance factor, and the other is an inconvenience more or less. The first one: Ironically I found this while looking at pictures of bugs people had previously submitted in the comments of the featured bugs article. When you click on the image to view it in the light-box some of the objects on the page ALWAYS show up in front of the light-box. This makes me believe that the Z-Index is possibly set too high on those objects, haven't had a chance to play around in FireBug and propose a solution as of yet though. I have attached the screenies of this problem below. I only took screen-shots of the problem on this specific page, but rest assured it does it on every single page I have checked. I figured this pair of images is enough. Second "bug" (not so much a bug as a recommendation here): When posting in the forums I ALWAYS have to do the "Select a category group and category" step in my post. I understand that if I wasn't already inside a specific forum (category) when I clicked the new topic button it wouldn't already know where I wanted to post to, but seeing as you don't have this button until you are inside a category it should be able to fill this in for you. For example I was inside the "bugs" category in the "help" category group when I clicked the "New Topic" button, it wouldn't be too difficult to have that button pass a parameter to allow those boxes to automatically have the right selection, but keep them selectable just in case someone would want to change where it was posted. Computer 1 specs: OS: Both Ubuntu 11.10 (x86 and x64) and Windows 7 (x64) Browsers: Firefox 8.0, Chromium 15.0.874.106 (Developer Build 107270 Linux) CPU: Core 2 Duo e5700 RAM: 8 Gb GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 (Driver Version 2.1.2) Computer 2 Specs (My web development machine): OS: Windows 7 SP1 (x64) and XP Pro SP3 (x86) Browsers: Firefox 9.0.1, IE 9.0.8812.16421, Chrome 16.0.912.63, Safari 5.1.2, Opera 11.60 CPU: Core i5 m520 RAM: 8Gb GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5470 I was able to replicate this issue across 3 operating systems with various levels of installed updates, and across every single common browser, updated to their latest versions for the specific operating systems. In supporting browsers using compatibility mode this problem wasn't present, but as previous posts stated paddings, menus and some other items move around the site or collapse on themselves, specifically on the front page using internet explorer. These bugs were replicated using both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of operating systems, and on 64 bit operating systems it was tested on both the 32 and 64 bit browsers.
