We should have instructables in flash. No more painful waiting for another page to load, it may take awhile to load at first.

So...Theres not too many flash tutorials on this site, so i figured i'd make some. I think there should be alot more, it's a great thing. I've seen some flash drive players through a boombox... where you stick the flash drive and it plays the music files in it. i was looking for something like that but instead of boom boxes , i could change the output or speaker device to use... for example id like a portable speaker or a headphone.

I have a 16 gigabyte flash drive that's relatively empty (13.7GB free space), and I was trying to put a 5 gigabyte .ISO file onto it. However, when I try to copy the file to the flash drive, I get an error saying there is not enough space to put the file on the flash drive. I know this is not true because I have over 13 gigs of free space. Is there any reason for this weird error and is there any fix? This is kinda important.

Well, im sure you have all noticed some new changes to the website.. layout changes and what not. But i just found something magical The flash uploader... The main thing i like about this, is being able to add multiple files to an upload list! instead of doing them one by one. So, just to say Thank you instructables, you have made my week!

I got a idea to improve ibles.... I always liked that you can ambed ibles by adding ?embed=flash at the end of the url, but what I don't like about the flash player is that you can't change the size (I also tried by modifying the HTML). It would be awesome if you guys could make that.

Hey Everyone, I have recently been made redundant from my job and have decided to work on my IT Skills. I have a huge interest in website development and have joined the freelance.com and peopleperhour.com websites which are for people who want to post projects and look for work. To enable myself to get any clients I will need to build up a portfolio - I am fairly new to web design and have been using the Serif applications as well as general html coding in notepad and a have some experience in MS FrontPage and Dreamweaver. I am working on a website for myself which will be used as a sample site for my portfolio - It is for an animal welfare charity and will include competitions, product info, events etc. I want to aim the website at children and young people, it will be an organisation that can help children develop their key skills such as communication, team leading, motivational and discipline. Sorry for the long introduction - Anyways I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to give me some guidance on how to create multimedia games - simple flash games that can get children to interact and learn Thank you Kind Regards Michelle Edwards

Here's a nice flash drive mod which seems to be accomplished by sticking ye olde standard flash drive inside a lot of other metal bits. OK, that sounds simple, but the results are quite nice. Check the link below for lots of build shots.Link via bbgadgets

I've been searching the web for a tutorial on how to mod a rubber ducky or, preferably, a Devil Ducky to hold a flash drive. There was a lot of chatter about a website at freshlysqueezedflash.com but it and its tutorials are now defunct. Anyone have any suggestions?

If you want to create your own Flash widget and don't want to do all that messy learning Flash stuff, then the answer might just be a few weeks away. A browser-based WYSIWYG editor called Sprout has just launched into private beta and the open beta should be coming somewhat soon. via TechCrunch

Hi All, question from a newbie. I'm working on a project for my (steampunk) daughter. For part of it I've taken the flash circuit from a disposable camera (PDF 1:Flash+MechanicalTrigger). This works just fine when I close the trigger mechanically. What I want to do is trigger it with the same pulse (from a 555 timer) that I'll be using to do other things at the same time. To this end I added a transistor as shown in PDF 2:Flash with transistorTrigger. My intention is to feed the 555 pulse to base, saturating it and triggering the flash. Result, abject failure. Help! The proposed triggering transistor is an MJE340(NPN). When set up as shown the indicator LED glows but voltage across Emitter-Base produces no result. When testing I noticed that if I mechanically make the collector-transformer connection it triggers a flash, even with no voltage across emitter-base. I'm stumped. Any ideas very gratefully accepted. Thanks, Fred.

Help help! I was following the instructions at http://tutorialgeek.blogspot.com/2010/11/fix-flash-on-nikon-d70-dslr.html to fix a flash on a camera I got on ebay. All was going great until the black wire came out. I tried putting it back in and got a terrible shock, and the flash no longer worked. So I thought it was a grounding wire. I tried to strip it and put it back in its little holes, but it did NOT want to strip. Downloading the service manual later showed me that it didn't want to strip because it's really fiber optics in there. In trying to fix it some more, I got shocked a few more times, pretty strongly (with the battery out, even). I'm not sure if I've fried a component or not, but at least nothing smells bad. I'd like to try to put a new fiber optic wire in there, but I have no idea where to find one. Can anyone help me? The gauge of the wire is pretty standard for small electronics. Please let me know!! Susan

I don't have a lot of money to spend on stuff at the moment. What I do have is flash guns. Four of them in fact, three of which can be fired with triggers. Now I could invest in 16 rechargeable batteries. Or should that be 32 in case I run out? And a crap load of chargers. And extensions cos we have no spare sockets in our house. But that just doesn't seem right to me. Heres what I propose : 1) make some dummy batteries from wood with wire running through the middle. Three of these go in each flash to carry the connections 2) a fourth dummy battery carries wires out of a small notch in the battery flap door 3) said wires are connected in parallel to a large rechargeable battery - I reckon a 6v from an old British motorcycle (fast draining) or from a granny wagon (deep cycle) should do the trick. 4) when I'm done shooting I charge this single battery from the mains charger I have (does 6/12v) I figure 4xAA batteries at 1.5v = a 6v battery, bu extra size should last longer, be more convenient than carrying around dozens of AAs and changing them and if I want to use AAs when our and about I still can Any reasons tho wouldn't work or I shouldn't do it?

I am not good at designing electronics. Could someone point me in the direction of a suitable circuit to do this... I have a device with a backlight on an led display, the backlight is normally on but can be switched off sometimes the backlight flashes to alert the user. on for 1 sec, off for 1 sec approx. I want to add a circuit to it without changing the existing circuitry when the backlight comes on I want a buzzer to sound for 1/2 sec if the backlight is on then nothing happens, nor should it buzz when the light goes off. So: 1. switch on device, backlight comes on, Buzz 2. backlight is on for length of time but no buzzing 3. backlight starts flashing 4. goes off, No buzz 5. goes on, Buzz 6. repeat from 4 until the backlight stays on this circuit and buzzer is going to have to be very compact to fit in the device. I might substitute a phone vibrate for the buzzer. Any suggestions ?

A few years ago I did a project that was in the Instructables format. The only thing is that it's a SWF file and I wanted to embed it into my instructable. I've added it to my file library but it will only show up as an attachment. I know I can upload as a slideshow or video, but the project has it's own navigation. The link to the actual content I'd like to put up is here. The only question I really have is if I can embed this swf directly to page 1 of the instructable so that the navigation is intact and still functional. Thanks for any help!

You need a separate grouping for this module under Technology This is a Microprocessor running at 80Mhz to 160 Mhz with 512 kB to 4 Mb of program memory It costs $3 and is programmed with various languages compiled to machine hex and uploaded by a variety of programs to run entirely on its own with a 3.3Volt power supply . It connects to your modem , acts as a modem , serves web pages and sends to web pages and a whole lot of other stuff I have not used yet See here in the wiki for more detail http://www.esp8266.com/wiki/doku.php

Well today as I stared at pocket cotton candy machine, I thought I should add a flash animation explaining the basics of how cotton candy machine work. Now that poses a problem. I could export my animation to a video, but when you do that in Adobe Flash it deteriorates quality and basically turns it into a slide show instead of an animation. So this post is to suggest the possible add-on of flash support for instrucatbles so that those of us who use flash don't have to ruin our animations. Plus flash loads faster.

These flash drives by Shu-Chun Hsiao are serious. The drives are encased in concrete and are embossed with the weight of each one, a number that correlates with the flash drive's capacity. I love the idea, but 256g sticking out the front of my desktop is just going to destroy itself. P.S. This would make a great entry for the upcoming USB Contest Concrete Memory, Get Totally Cemented via TechEBlog

I've just noticed that the new flash slideshow on th front page is layered in front of the "Home | You | Explore | Community | Submit" dropdown menus. This means that I can't mouse-over "Explore" and select "Recent" like I usually do. Thanks in advance!

Got a project in mind but looking for some advice. I want to reuse the innards of a few disposable cameras but I want to move the flash units off the board onto a separate frame to get the flashes closer together. The brackets that hold the bulb to the board are metal blades but if I was to remove those and replace them with wire, what gauge should I start with? Thanks

I know instructables needs advertisements to stay afloat, and I'm fine with that. But that popup flash-ad for san luca, from rovion.com is horrible. I mean god awful. It's the type of thing that drives people away from websites, and causes them to install flash-blockers and ad-blockers. When we do that, instructables doesn't get ad revenue, and that's bad. So please, for the love of God, Bob, Steve, or whoever your deity is, get rid of them, so we can support your site by seeing the normal adds, and even clicking on them occasionally.

First off I'll tell you to NOT TOUCH A CHARGED CAMERA CAPACITOR, IT HURTS. I had a disposible film camera that I took apart. How do I discharge it? If I cut one of the leads off the compacitor would it discharge or explode, damage the circuit board? How long would it take to self discharge?

Video of RavelightPicture of RavelightIm interested in building a product that utilises coloured LED lights with multiple flashing and fading patterns.I have pulled apart a few LED products and examined the PCB's and the components and have a general idea of what is going on, however it is all new to me, and im unsure of the possibilities that exist. For example, i didn't know you could get pcb's so small...Basically i need the power source to be the small button cell batteries (up to 6 if necessary, though 3 or 4 would be preferable). With at least 4 LEDs of different colours (RGB etc). A similar design to what I want to make is a flashing LED light stick like people use at raves that I found. It has a button that seems to simply complete a circuit momentarily, and pressing it down again and again, scrolls through its 9 different flashing patterns.I have seen various different LED toys that vary on this, but are basically the same idea. The thing that I don't understand (on top of a lot of other small things) is what is under the black blob on the PCB? Is this something like a 555 timer? an IC? And how are these programmed to give all the different patterns? is it a microchip? This thing cost me $3 from a shop. three dollars!! cheap as....this is what I want for my product. can anyone help me out to understand?I can post a picture up in the next couple of days if people can't understand what i'm talking about. Thanks

I am a huge fan of what you make and do on the videos and I would like to ask a small favor from you. Would you be able to make me the "Mini Mag Flash Light hack" on the link below. https://www.instructables.com/id/Laser-Flashlight-Hack!!/?utm_source=pdf&utm;_campaign=video The only reason why i won't make it myself is because I don't want to stuff it up and not just that but I would like it done by a person that has done it before.(professionally) P.S. I am willing to buy it for a reasonable price. Hope to hear from you in the near future.

Hi all - I am building a wooden model lighthouse, it will stand 5 feet tall and become my driveway landmark. I have been searching for a good light circuit, a non-LED version, preferably using 120v AC. I would like the light to just do a slow flash or pulse and haven't found a circuit anywhere. I did find one SCR simple circuit using a high rated capacitor, but I am looking for more options. I have a coloured halogen which should do the job well enough. So have any of you brainiacs come across any circuits close to this description - thank you for reading / responding. Bill

I had a cheap phone flasher that I got off ebay, and when its battery died, I dissected the turtle and pulled its blinky guts out. Anyway, it works great for one of my projects, and I want to buy more, but can't find them anywhere. I bought several others off ebay, including more turtles, but they all had different blinkers inside them, which sadly do not work for me. I'm attaching a picture of the part I want. Anybody know where I can get these?
