Are Jeans popular worldwide?

Are blue jeans as popular in countries outside of the US? I commonly think of them as a quintessentially American leg covering, usually due to Mr. Strauss and the fact I see more people wearing them than any other type of Pantaloon. Because of my lack of foreign travel, I have a somewhat limited view on the subject and would like to know more.

Why are your k'nex guns named as they are?

Why did you name your guns like they are? Was it random? Does it stand for something? Or is there some long or complicated reason involving foreign translation or coke or some film? eg. my storm guns are all good for fast fights with their quick reloads times. They are assault weapons, the german translation "Sturmgewehr", which can also be translated to mean storm rifle. the 22_ bit comes from the fact that it took me precisely 2 months and 20 days to perfect my rifle, and the number has gone up to help with chronology, not to do with hours. Baking Polymer Clay on Plastic Straws?

Is it safe to bake polymer clay on plastic straws? I'd like to try making a ball-jointed doll, and one tutorial uses plastic straws as a form of armature for which the polymer is wrapped around to create a hollow core to sculpt on. The straws seemed in-tact, but is it safe? I know certain plastics let off toxic fumes when exposed to certain temperatures, which is why I ask. I would think it would be fine, since it wouldn't be much "foreign plastic" (AKA not the clay) but I'd rather ask and be sure, than find out the hard way. Thanks for any help!

Theremin Circuit?

Does anybody have a theremin circuit that doesn't have coils? I need it to be compact so programming seems ideal. A PIC solution might work...any suggestions? Any other processor is fine also. No, I can't use a light theremin... And no, I can't use Harrison Instruments' because its too big and too many connections. If possible, then this is to be used on fruit flies to see how much activity they do when foreign substances are added. Again, if possible if a PIC solution is used, then can the PIC detect when the flies move because they change an oscillation. Most likely I will wind a coil and place it in the jar and then have it detect. The best way would be to use the PIC to print an output via some sort of display so that the scientific results can be tested.

Does anyone have any info or resources that can help me with ODE's and Frobenius' theorem?

I'm studying Frobenius' theorem in school and am having trouble understanding my foreign teacher. His method differs from the one in the book, and I'm having trouble with that too. Most of the examples I've found on the net have been special cases like Bessel's equations or ones that can be solved with Fuch's theorem. (series solutions about an ordinary point, within a radius of convergence) What I'm having trouble with is EQ's that involve series solutions about regular singular points I plan on writing an instructable to decipher how to do this once I understand it better (teaching others helps me learn much faster) so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Switch on EL wire with Raspberry Pi

College Application Items ? Answered

I'm a Junior, and I've being thinking (like I should be) about my college apps. I've got good grades; but I know that's not everything to the admissions office. I haven't done much around school for extracurricular, but I'm not sure what I can count for that. I'm really into my church youth program, and I have been for about five years now. We've done a lot as a group; we've gone on mission trips to places like Chattanooga and Baltimore; put on fundraiser productions (plays, dinner theaters, et cetera), taken in foreign exchange students, and general service to the area. The mission trips were more service-based than worship-based. Can I count any of this as "extracurricular" on my apps? Or does it all need to be via the school I go to?

Sharing a home telephone line through the internet?

The thing is that I live 10km away from his house and he has this thing that he is able to talk limitless to foreign countries :) So I'm wondering: is there anyway to connect or to reach my uncle's second line through internet? I thought maybe I can use the second telephone line by setting up the right equipment like creating two servers one at my uncle's house and one at my house. Any ideas are appreciated!

I'm going for Filmmaking and Visual Arts. A lot of people have said I should apply, including the DIRECTOR of the school. I won't be here for a few days because I've still got to: A) Create a still life of three common objects, with statement.B) Create a two minute demo of one of my films, with statement.C) Select a piece that represents my best work of 8th or 9th grade from each of these:EnglishScienceHistoryMathematicsForeign LanguageAll this is due tuesday, when I go to my audition. Who knows what I'll have to do there, one kid said you have to do a 30 second quick draw in front of judges. Only 20% out of district applicants (me) make it in, so it's a bloody battle for domination. My Stress-O-Meter is off the charts.

What the Candidates Say About Energy

What the Candidates Say About Energyhttp://www.energycentral.com/centers/news/daily/article.cfm?aid=9641919RepublicansRUDY GIULIANI: Says "every potential solution" must be pursued, including nuclear power, increased energy exploration and more aggressive investment in alternative energy sources. Says energy independence can be achieved through a strategy that emphasizes diversification, innovation and conservation.MIKE HUCKABEE: Wants to lessen U.S. dependence on foreign oil by pursuing "all avenues" of alternative energy: nuclear, wind, solar, hydrogen, clean coal, biodiesel and biomass.JOHN MCCAIN: Wants to limit carbon dioxide emissions "by harnessing market forces" that will bring advanced technologies, such as nuclear energy, to the market faster. Seeks to reduce dependence on foreign supplies of energy. Wants the U.S. to lead in a way that ensures all nations "do their rightful share" on the environment. As you may know,McCain was AWOL in December on the key Senate vote to secure an 8-yearSolar Investment Tax Credit extension -- and he could have been the hero by casting the 60thvote (it failed 59 to 40 with only McCain being AWOL).MITT ROMNEY: Wants to accelerate construction of nuclear power plants as part of a "robust, cleaner and reliable energy mix." Are there any coding wizards around when I need them?

I'm sorry to ask a total newb question... but I'm a total newb to shift registers being used with my arduino and 8x8 led matrices. Would somebody be willing to help me make the code in THIS example so that I can use cascaded 595 shift registers to make for less pin usage on my arduino? Thank you! EDIT: I'm using an Arduino Duemilanove with pin 8 to LATCH, 11 to Serial Data input, and 12 to storage register clock going into two cascaded 595 chips. My displays are 8x8 dual color LED, common cathode, and I've only wired up the red for the time being. Also, I'm VERY bad at coding. If there's a code, I can read it, but it's like a foreign language whereas I'm better at understanding than reading and writing. I'm sorry :/ I think I need more help understanding how to plug "shiftout" where "datawrite" would be and how to get it all working.

Waist Level Finder peripheral for a compact digital camera - Street photography!

Posting to here and cross-posting to Burning Questions! Hoping someone can help. I'll be traveling to Japan in a month, and I have a simple point and click digital camera. I was hoping to get some candid street shots as well as in the stores/etc but I've heard people get a little nervous when foreigners are running around photographing stuff. I was researching ways to be a little more inconspicuous with getting photographs and one of the ways I found was a waist level finder. Basically, you can take photographs from your waist, and there's a little screen that points upwards to let you see what you're shooting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waist-level_finder Basically I was wondering if anyone had any ideas how to build one of these things that I could attach to a point and click camera? I imagine it'd be pretty ghetto, like cardboard and mirrors and tape haha. Any ideas would be much appreciated, thanks!

How to Get Anime Cosplay Costumes

To many cosplayers, the most important thing is not how they look, but the manufacture of cosplay costumes. Generally there are four ways to get the cosplay costumes: get it from the local store, make it by yourself, and find a tailor to make it as your size or order it from the internet.   1 get it from the local store. In Japan, you can get the right costume you want, for the anime cosplay is developed from Japan. Some of the Japan local store even has the officially recognized. Some of the store is not officially recognized but has the same quality that you get from the official one. As for most of the countries of the world, there is not even a store specializing in cosplay costumes. So if you or friends travel to Japan, you can ask them to bring a costume along with his trip.    2 DIY Actually the greatest pleasure to cosplay is made you own costumes and props. Of course, if you really want to make it by yourself, you must be a tailor, what’s more there should be a sewing machine at home. Generally speaking, a person who made costumes needs one month to finish the costume making, from materials selection, the style design and also the props. During this period you should not only go into the techniques and tools, but also the mental concentration. We surely enjoy the fun of making a costume, but to some one it is not a easy thing to do.   3 Make-to-measures.   Tailor-made is surely a good choice if you do not have a sewing machine or you do not have that much time. Remember when you ask a tailor to made you own costume, you should make sure that he had made it before and he know what cosplay is, for the cosplay is not so popular in some place. Made to measure is the best way to get the right size for you, but some time the tailor could not make the right one in you mind. What’s more, the material is too many and expensive to choose.    4 Order it from the internet With the development of the internet, there are more and more on line shops. They get the products directly from the factory and sell it to the costumers, really in good type and quality. You really could save lots of money and enjoy yourself. Such as the China wholesale company. There are many t on-line foreign trade companies like milanoo.com cosplaymagic.com, mooncostumes.com. They get the costumes directly from the factory and sell it to the foreign customers. What we should get into mind is that they have the professional tailor and the costumes are really in a low price and fine quality. Sometime they will have a promotion and you can the cheap cosplay costumes.   In fact, it really cost lots money for a really costume, especially from the franchise house. If you had some one made it for you, you surely can save lots of money but most of the time you can not get the one you like, surely there are seldom tailor could make the cosplay costume. So order from the internet maybe is the best way.

What are any and all of the unique flavor bringing herbs and veges used in oriental soups?

I want to include into my garden any and every vegetable/herb i can find that goes well in one soup or another, for adding into (real) ramens and packet ramens to make them better, or better yet, to make my own soup from scratch. Im into asian inspired soups and go nanners for packet ramen simply because they are so much better than the crummy old 2 minute noodles made from nothing but stock powder, im especially fond of seafood noodes. im looking for uncommon or un "western veges and herbs here, like chinese or foreign v's and h's generally used in soups. so far ive uncovered lovage and shino, to be great, and im trying out okra , all 3 i never even knew existed that are uncommon things you wont find at the supermarket (at least in australia anyway) does anyone know anything else? like the dried ones in ramen packets, i think there is some sort of fleshy spring onion in there, i just dont know, i want them all. anything that goes well in a salty soup in short, since asians make the best soups, broths and ect IMO: what are ALL the asian soup fruits, veges and herbs used?

Educators and Where to Find Them

I am in search of educators and students using Instructables as part of a course or class. I would like to present at my state and national art education conference in the next year on how to use Instructables.com as a resource for student learning, sharing, critique, and assessment, but I have not been able to try this yet in my own classroom. It is a hope for the future, as my district has Instructables blocked through our web filter presently. If you are using Instructables for any of these purposes or know of someone who is, please drop me a line through a comment or PM so we might connect and share thoughts and experiences.   I'm posting this in feedback, because I am unaware of any way to find these people otherwise. Could there be some way to search for users that have added a particular city, state, or country to their profile? A profession section in the profile that is also searchable would be helpful as well.  Additionally, I am all for web anonymity and staying safe online, but it seems rare for authors to include their location in their profile. Requiring or encouraging authors to include at least the country of origin would  make it easier to understand and connect with those who come from a country or state/province/county that is not your own. For example, if I see an ible with less than perfect grammar or spelling, it is easier to overlook when I see that the author is not from an english speaking country. I have my state listed on my location, because we Texans have some pretty unique traditions and perspectives that may seem foreign even to those in another state.
