I have a "man cave", as my wife calls it. It's basically my office, with all the decorations she won't let me put in the rest of the house along with my Ammunition Reloading Bench....anyway, there is no door. The hallway opens right into it. I have a curtain there now but I have always wanted a secret door. I have looked at all the "instructables" pertaining to the hidden door, however I can't figure out what kind of door is a good door or where the hinges go or if i should use a pre-existing bookcase...any suggestions?

I am looking for a secret "latch" to open/close a bookcase that covers a hidden door. There are some nice electromagnet types but they are expensive and need power. Any ideas on a "Chinese puzzle" type of thing where you move a couple of things and it opens? I don't want the classic horror movie things like move a book, lever or statue 'cause that's the first thing someone would try. Just fishing for ideas!

Hey guys, I am trying to find a method of creating a hidden proximity sensor that would work similarly to a laser i.e. if the line of sight is broken then an output can be achieved, but without actually using lasers. There are a few problems, the sensor will be in a dark space and will have some smoke blown through the line of sight (lasers would be seen). I want the sensors to be hidden, so they will have to be mounted out of sight, but as they will be used in a relatively open space, i imagine this will mean on the ceiling. This will mean that they will have to detect all the way to the floor, so the range will probably have to be at least 8 feet. Does anybody have any ideas? i'd really appreciate any input. Neal

Hi! I'm trying to make brass knuckles with a blade hidden inside it's for a cosplay. The idea is to have brass knuckles and at one point in the action of a button and out a knife inside the brass knuckles in a small compartment inside the fist. For reference I have the OTF Assassins Creed hidden blade. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJx2VCH3V44 But on a small scale and with a button instead of rope. As you would do ?? Thank you very much!
Question by marcoantonio.saldonguerrero 4 years ago
Altair ,the protagonist of the game Assassins Creed has a hidden dagger attached to his arm which is obviously spring loaded, but he unsheaths it by pressing a button with his pinky and retracts it with the same. I wanted to know if it is possible to make such a contraption and how it would work just to satisfy my curiosity. There are a number of videos on youtube but most of them are gravity driven or do not give any explaination so I'd be obliged if someone helped me out with this.

i had a cool idea for hidden blade we need 3 springs (the third one is to keep the rope strained and to activate the second trigger both springs have |dX |>0: dX1 > 0 ,dX2<0 (one spring for showing the blade, ione - for hiding , unstrained length the same) then man pulls the rope connected with the coil and this releases trigger A it cause spring 1 to reduce its length the blade appear then man releases the coil and activates the second trigger (B), which cause the blade's hiding it is only scheme, in real life it will take more springs and parts

I ran virus scan and noticed a bunch of wierd files, mostly porn and XXX files. But when I went to the directory that they were supposedly listed under, they weren't there. I went into TOOLS and then FILE OPTIONS and selected VIEW HIDDEN FILES. But they still weren't there. Why can't I see the files so that I can manually delete them? I think there is a bunch of hidden stuff there that is slowing down my computer.

I have a door in my back garden which is a room built onto my houser (you can only go in from the outside), from the inside you will never know it exists, the door needs to be concealed so no1 knows its there but i can still enter on regular basis, i have several ideas but i might need some tips on them in the door the bottom panel has been kicked out so i have just enouhg room to get in without having to open the door fully put a piece of wood with hinges over the door and grow a wall climbing plant up it buy a shed or metal shed and place it infront with a little hole in the back
So I am actually a bit surprised that there is no instructable on how to make a hidden wall safe. More or less I am wanting to build a hidden shelf area akin to that of a hidden wall safe. IE: you have a picture on the wall that moves in some way to reveal the hidden space behind it. Just wondering why no one has done it before? So 100 points to who can guess what my next project is :-P

I have a fairly small room and i want to make a hidden space big enough for a small person to fit in. Could i build a piece of furniture and a compartment in the back? What about making fake drawers under the bed? Are these awful ideas? Do you have any more? p.s. I don't have a closet.

I want to hide my cell phone at school. If there's a backpack check, i want my cell phone to be secretly hidden in something that a teacher would not look in.
I am trying to make a hidden trail that can only be followed with a black light. This will essentially be done by following a series of "bread crumbs" that are only visible in the UV spectrum. I've had some success with a highlighter; the bark soaks up the ink, making it invisible to the naked eye. It's lasted a few rainy days, but I am not certain it will last for (at least) several months. I was wondering if there is another way to do this, one that is a little more weatherproof.

Hey, I'm wanting to make a fingerprint scanner to go on a hidden door (made into a bookcase), the hiding of the scanner isn't a factor i'm worrying about at the moment - But i can't afford to pay out like £50 just for a scanner! Or if you can think of any alternatives to this, that would be great too! (: Thanks!

Two points i've seen: The spell check does not recognize "instructables" as a real word, despite it being used in almost every instructable. It also appears to be having some issues with contractions such as "i've" instead of "I have". Secondly, the "next step" button is often hidden behind the box with the facebook, embed, flag, etc. in it when there is only a small amount of text on the step. While writing this, another problem appeared in the spell check, as shown in the attached image.

I've published a german instructable (https://www.instructables.com/id/EMSA-Gewürzgläser-beschriften). I can find it via google (seraching for "EMSA Gewürzgläser Schriftart" first result entry), but if I look under "You" - "Instructables (1)" it says Puiblished (1) You haven't published any instructables, yet ??? Could it be there are problems with german umlauts in instructable names?

Found a cool video from kip kay where in he tapped free energy from phoneline to power LED lamp. I tested my phone line with a multimeter. The readings were as follows; Voltage - 53.8V (DC) Amp - 61.9 So the power running through the phone is 3.33 watts approx. So which resistors and circuits should i use to harness all 3 watts of energy from this secret source?

So i, like many others, have some strange obsession with Hidden Blades and really want one. However, i do not have the machines to make one from scratch like most of the walk thoughs on here, and since i do not have enough time at the moment, heres what i was wondering: Is there anyone out there with enough time, money, brains and skill to convert a shop bought hidden blade from spring loaded mechanism to the more realistic ring pull mechanism? I think it could potentially be quite a challenge, working around the already existing parts. I am talking about the blades on sites such as Forbidden Planet, and also i have found iconiccollectables.com selling them.

What is an example of a song that is about one thing that you think sounds like something else? For example, I think the song "Disturbia" by Rihanna, describes grief. The chorus lines go: It's a thief in the night to come and grab you/It can creep up inside you and consume you/A disease of the mind it can control you It's really about disturbing things that happen in suburbia, but to me anyway, my interpretation is correct. So what songs do you have like that?

The final image on https://www.instructables.com/id/Simple-Skull-Display/ has an image note that reaches to the bottom edge of the image, which means the caption (positioned below the mouseover box) falls off the bottom of the image and can't be read. A little "smartness" in caption placement would sort this out- if the note is within a short distance of the bottom of the image, place the caption to the right instead. I can't remember if the old image layout did this as well but I don't see why the layout change would have caused this bug.

We have an upright piano, and we don't have a good place to put our flatscreen. My thought is to put the flatscreen inside the piano. I have measured for clearance and it fits quite neatly. My only concern is if the vibrations from the piano will somehow damage the TV's electronics. On the one hand, the TV has speakers and generates a dynamic range of sound and volume and does just fine. The TV can get louder than we ever play the piano. On the other hand, the piano sounds are fuller and maybe vibrate more than the speakers in the TV do. More details: The vertical board behind and under the keyboard has a latch that is opened so that the board pivots down and forward. The TV would go inside the space behind this board. It would make the TV close to the ground, but it would be more convenient than the current location. The space in the piano has a depth of about 6 inches. I would install a piece of 3/4 inch ply across the back to mount the TV to. It would be right in front and possibly touching the sound board and the bass bridge. The TV is 4.5 inches deep at the deepest point. I am sure that the construction is feasible and well within my abilities. I am unsure of any danger to the TV from such a setup. Any insights, references or suggestions are well appreciated. Thank you, Michael Moore

So I bought a hidden camera off eBay, and it's a total joke. The receiver is decent, but the camera itself, not so much. It is connected to a 9 volt battery, and the only way to have the battery last longer than 3 hours is to attach multiple batteries in a parallel circuit. I was wondering if there was a way I could, using the camera, record the video directly like using a video camera. The camera is small which is good, but I need a better way to record video. Thanks in advance.

Trying to figure out the wiring to operate 1 actuator using 2 on/on switches. Anyone care to help out? Actuator has built in limit switches. 24" stroke. It will open all the way and door will be closed and then open all the way when the switch is triggered on either end. Same as a hallway light that operates from 2 location in the house. The tricky part I've found is getting relays and switches to reverse polarity. I know how to wire a dpdt switch to move forward and backward on the actuator. But with another switch to do this I've been told I need relays. I don't understand the circuitry and tech talk, so please bare with me. Pictures say a lot, so if you can add photos or links that helps most.

I want a dimmable low-wattage led lamp to mount to my computer desk shelf. It will sit above the keyboard, shining diffuse light down but not directly at me. I could mount it underneath with screws, or have it sit on the shelf above, looking over it. It'll be powered by 120V 60Hz, so no batteries required. I have two design problems that I need to solve before I start. First, I need a diffuse light source that will light up my entire keyboard without blinding me with a direct view. This should be a warm white rather than something bluish or cold, since I don't want to lose my night vision. (I watch movies and do graphics on the computer at night.) I haven't been able to think of anything that will fit back far and high enough that my slouched posture won't cause a problem. I thought of an opaque diffuser that the light would shine up into, but the geometry seems a little tight. Second, I would like recommendations for the dimmer control. I want to dim the light right down to nothing, and switch it off, easily and quickly for when I'm stumbling off to bed. It needs to be a bit sturdy to handle my fumble-fingered ways, and quick to find. I appreciate any suggestions anyone can come up with, and I'll be glad to gab on more about what I want if you have any questions. The shelf is 28" or more from my eyes when seated at the desk, and about 30 degrees of it is currently blind to me at maximum slouchiness. It sits 6.25" above the desk, and I can easily spare 4" of clearance under it; the only other thing that has to fit there is the keyboard itself with a little wiggle room.

Okay, so I'm thinking of making a hidden blade (Assassins creed style) and i thought a copper tube with a smaller copper (or pvc) tube inside would do for the sliding mechanism. To make it not slide with everything I put a weak magnet on the bottom so it will only slide with some force. The braking system (so the blade wouldn't fall out) is a rubber ring at the top that will let the blade through but not the copper tube. The only thing I need help with is the system that will prevent the blade from going back in the outer-tube. So plz help me with a design for that. I don't care if I have to put a switch or something to get it back in, it doesn't need to be with 1 hand.

Hinges for floor door/ trap door Is there a hidden hinge that lifts a flush floor door? As the door will be heavy, I'll use a gas piston to aid lifting and closing.
