Major Java error on publishing

In trying to publish instructable, I've run into the same error twice. It seems to publish anyway, but the return screen has three navbars each down and to the right of the one before, and they're followed by: Please excuse me, that was very impolite! - javax.servlet.ServletException: javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: ServletException in '/common/layout_editor.jspx': ServletException in '/pages/edit/share_body.jsp': Arguments to 'pdfURL' do not match expected length 2. Then there's the word Exception followed by a whole lot of error text. It must be in your log. I had a bunch of problems throwing errors with other stuff along the way, like adding image notes - which worked better in Firefox than in Chrome, though not flawlessly. Hoping I still get into the contests. Thanks.

Unreadable entry in Be Prepared Contest

The latest entry in the Be Prepared contest is entitled "How to Make A Grey Man Bug Out Bag". When I click on it, the text of the Instructable does not come up. Instead I get a page of repeating "computer-hash" that seems to be related to some kind of Javascript error. I know it's not my computer at fault, as I have tried to read this Instructable from two different computers. How can this entry be fixed?

What's wrong with my Android code?

I'm trying to write a simple Android app for my own personal use that gets basic Cpu and Memory information, but I'm only getting 1 error at the end that I can't figure out. The code is attached below, so if someone could be so kind as to show me what's wrong? I get the following error: Multiple markers at this line - Syntax error on token "+", delete this token - Syntax error on token(s), misplaced construct(s) On the last line: System.out.println(cpuInfo + memInfo);

In Java, how do you check if a command line argument is equal to a string? Answered

I'm learning the Java programming language and I have come to a rut in the road. Below is the simple "Hello Rusty" program, I want it do its usual thing, but if the argument is a certain word/number (42 in this case) it says something totally different. There are no errors while compiling the code, just when I type "java hello 42" the outcome  is "Hello 42" Instead of the expected  "You have greeted the answer to life, the universe, and everything, you deserve some cake." I am almost certain the problem is in line 2, line 5 or both.  1  class hello{ 2   public static void main (String args[]){ 3    /*Now let us say Hello*/ 4    if (args.length > 0) { 5       if (args[0] == "42") { 6      System.out.println("You have greeted the answer to life, the universe, and everything,"); 7      System.out.println("you deserve some cake."); 8     } 9     else{ 10     System.out.println("Hello " + args[0] + "!"); 11    } 12   } 13   else{ 14    System.out.println("Hello whoever you are!"); 15   } 16  } 17} Thank you in advance for the help

How come I can't get Java to install an old (necessary) version on my computer?

I have Windows XP on my laptop and subscribe to Pogo games. It came up with a "either you don't have java or it's not working" error message so I went and got 6u11 from Java, and that didn't work either. Their tech people told me to try and get java 6u7 on there instead because that works better with their games. I can't get my computer to open the file I downloaded for that version because it doesn't recognize the extension. Have tried to get their download manager to help and no luck. I'm furious and frustrated. Anyone who can help, please do get in touch. Thanks.

Javascript help?

After figuring out how to use arrays and turning them into strings, I now need to do floating point operations with the variable. To first I created an array:      var = array1 = [];      var = array1value = 0; then, I add tack in numbers and operations when the right button is pressed, satisfying the corresponding if statement. if ( condition_1 = true){     array1.push(1); } if ( condition_2 = true){     array1.push(2); } if ( condition_3 = true){     array1.push(3); } //(you get the idea) if ( condition_A = true){     array1.push("+"); } if ( condition_B = true){     array1.push("-"); } if ( condition_C = true){     array1.push("*"); } if ( condition_D = true){     array1.push("/"); } (did you notice I had to add quotes to the operators? otherwise I get errors.) Anyway, then I proceed to take the data inside the array, and 'compress'  it into one string of characters. if (array1.length === 1){     array1value = array1[0].toString(); } if (array1.length === 2){     array1value = array1[0].toString() +                            array1[1].toString(); } if (array1.length === 3){     array1value = array1[0].toString() +                            array1[1].toString() +                            array1[2].toString(); } etc. you can see the pattern (also can anyone tell me how to convert all this redundant code into a nice for loop? I couldn't figure it out, so I just did the above all the way up to array.length === 13) Then finally, I make this appear as text on a output, and I can see the final value after pressing buttons and stuff, say, 534+902/21. So I would expect that if I save this in a new variable, that it will perform the math operation: except the new variable just returns the same exact thing: 534+902/21 var newVariable = array1value So I tried adding and subtracting some numbers from array1value, and the output of the newVariable is an error. I believe this is because although as text, array1value appears as 534+902/21, in actuality, it is *really*   534 + "+" + 902 + "/" +21. or maybe as "534+902/21." How do I force javascript to convert this back to 534+902/21? Also, please don't tell me to google it, or find java tutorials, I have already searched for half the day and don't want to watch 2 hour long videos on programming.

Image upload not working

Is something wrong with the image upload?  I've tried both Firefox and Internet Explorer; it lets me select the images I want to post, but then when I click "Upload Files," nothing happens.  No errors, no warnings, no progress bar, and obviously no image uploads, just sits there. OS: Windows 7 Browser: Firefox Browser: Internet Explorer Java: 6.0.310 (Java 6 build 31) Flash: 11.5.502.146

My Windows won't run Java or Minecraft?!?

Whenever I run Minecraft it will come up with an error message saying bad video driver and OpenGl and such. I deleted my .minecraft and got a fresh new folder without any mods and it didn't fix the problem. Also, when doing the Java check it won't run and when going on a game on Pogo it won't run and says I need to install Java. However that is only for Google Chrome but it WILL work on Internet Explorer. I have Java enabled as a plugin as well. Please help I have one more thing to say: Before this laptop was Windows Vista Home Premium. Now I upgraded it to Windows 7 Ultimate x32 bit and I did it for free from YouTube, Lol ikr. All was required was to mount the Ultimate to a virtual drive using PowerISO and to install Windows 7 and then to use a program called Windows 7 Loader by DAZ v.2.2 or something like that which would activate the key and before I activated it, it was already saying it was activated. Lol long story short, HOW CAN I FIX THIS? (Also my video driver crashes once in a while like 4 times a day in use and recovers XD). Please reply! :)

Atmel AVR IDE/assembler won't run (Windows 8)

I'm trying to write some code for my AVR in assembly, but I cannot get either the Atmel studio 6.0 (with or without sp1) or AVR32 studio 2.6 to run. Studio 6.0 with the service pack states that it will work on windows 8 but consistently gives the error message "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b)". AVR32 generates a Java error. This is consistent across all compatability settings and running as administrator. This is on a pretty much clean install of windows 8 pro x64, with all updates and the latest release of both 32 and 64 bit Java. All other software has installed and run without issues, including the equivalent software for microchips microcontrollers. I would appreciate any suggestions as to how to get this software to run, or any alternatives that may work. Thanks in advance for any help.

Editing of published collection bugged

My published 'Cooking' collection is bugged. The collection was posted on Feb 25, 2014. Whenever I try to ADD any instructible to the collection or when I try to EDIT it in any way I get the ERROR page https://www.instructables.com/editCollection/error/oops. At first I thought it might be some plug-in or add-on but my other published collection works just fine and deactivating all browser extensions didn't reap any rewards. My system specifications: Windows 7 32-bit, 4GB RAM (running smooth and stable for years) Firefox 34.0.5 (bug has been persistent since I had Firefox 31something or longer, regardless of Java/Flash versions)

Possible bug

I keep getting this popup that only happens on Instructables.com it doesn't matter which Instructable I am looking at when it occurs. I thought it might just be my PC but it has happened on other PCs outside of my own system and house. After it happens explorer goes blank and I have to hit the back button, and sometimes it happens again and sometimes I return to the page. This happens frequently. is this happening to anyone else? (I know I know use Firefox, but I get a Java error with that one.)

Can't view questions while logged in

While I'm logged out, I can browse questions just fine, but for 3 or 4 days now, if I'm logged in, I can't view individual questions. Happens on IE (something recent version) and FF 4.0.1 most recent stable build.  Win 7 Home, Ultimate or Win XP same behaviour. Anyone else with this trouble? Edit:  Now up and running, after a few days, within an hour of me posting a bug report it gets fixed :D

My new laptop won't display certain pages or parts of pages.

I recently got a new HP Envy 6 laptop running 64-bit windows 7, everything worked for a week or two but now the thumbnails that usually have peoples' profile picture won't display on facebook (in the newsfeed, wall, ticker, chat, etc) and i also recently started using twitter for the purpose of following tv shows, certain people, certain groups, etc, and the entire twitter page won't load properly. I am using chrome but the problem also occurs on Internet Explorer I've installed the newest 32-bit and 64-bit java and pretty much all the basics (clearing cache, cookies, etc) but it has yet to fix the issue. Does anyone know a fix for this?. , or atleast perhaps what is used to load these parts, like is it an issue with my java, or flash, or something like that EDIT: the first image is a screenshot of twitter after logging in (the login screen only sometimes loads properly) and the second is what is in place of the thumbnails on facebook (a similar but different "error icon" appears on IE)

Issue with comments not posting?

I tried to go out this morning and post a reply to a comment, and got "Error on page" instead of the text entry box. I then tried to post a new Answer and got the same result. Finally, I tried to post a new comment on an Instructable and you guessed it: "Error on page".  I verified that my internet connection was working, checked to make sure my firewall hadn't gotten fakakte'd overnight, installed a pending Java update and even rebooted the machine - no change. Is this just me or is it a more widespread issue? I am using IE8 and Win7. I am now hoping that this topic will post.... UPDATE: At least it's not just me: https://www.instructables.com/answers/HELP-PLEASE-I-CANT-COMMENT/ UPDATE 2: I just installed Firefox, and now I can see the text entry interface and key a reply. Had a couple of issues getting logged out every time I tried to submit a reply, but tweaking the Firefox settings seems to have fixed that. IE 8 is still an issue, though.

Arduino & Android UDP communications?

I have an arduino running a UDP server program and it works fine. I have been able to confirm it receives data and responds with a string by using an app which sends & receives UDP messages. I am trying to run a UDP client on an android tablet through Eclipse (java). I have imported java.net and java.io and Eclipse does not show any errors with the code. The software seems to timeout after a long period when the following line is executed: Socket mySkt = new Socket("192.168.1.20",8888); .......even though this is the IP address and port I am able to confirm through the app. Does anyone have any ideas or very easy sample code to get this to work? Or are there any ways of testing the socket connection? Thanks,

This arduino code does not work as expected, any help? there seems to be an issue with the digitalWrite function. Answered

Recently, I wanted to make a laboratory grade linear semi-precision power supply using an Arduino, LCD, some comparators, and MOSFETs. Idealistically, I want measurements to be 3 significant figures of precision (0.1% accuracy @ 30V), voltages as high as 30V, and max current of 10A. The power supply is most likely going to be just a single regulated output, maybe if I feel lucky I will make 2 regulated outputs once I get the darn Arduino code to work. The Arduino's job is to simply set and read the output voltage, and is not part of the control loop. That is what the comparators are for. (I learned the hard way that using the Arduino within the control loop just results in parasitic oscillations because the Arduino is a clocked device and can only self correct at timed intervals.) Anyway, below is the code. I made explanations of all portions of it as clear as possible, and I also give the wiring used for the LCD, 4 buttons, and analog inputs used to set and read the voltage and current. However, the issue arises when I upload the code, the setVI button does not work unless I press both it and the RS button at same time. I made the many of the integers display in the serial output to diagnosing easier hopefully. I can see the setVI integer and my dudd integer only goes HIGH when  either it and the RS buttons are pressed simultaneously, or when the RS butten is held down for a long enough time. However, as far as I am aware, nowhere in the code do I manipulate that code so setVI goes HIGH dependant on other buttons, so I am bewildered by this parasitic phenomenon. Is my Arduino MEGA broken? I had a similar problem in the past, where I had multiple analogRead statements It strangely seemed to factor in the outputs of other input pins. Anyway, here is the code. Maybe someone could upload it and tell me if it functions properly on their arduino? That would help me determine if it is indeed a software issue. (p.s. I use an Arduino ripoff called the Funduino, but it is not broken in any way, I don't think?) Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance, -Max-. p.s. To make the code below legible, please copy/paste it in an IDE or in notepad and convert it into a monospaced font, it will make it very easy to follow. //---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------// /* Arduino Software for lab power supply. Reveived three copies of a newsletter

Hi guys, I very much enjoy the regular updates of instructables through the newsletters I receive by email. However, upon receiving the same one for the third time today I was wondering if there is any major work being done behind the scenes or whether I stumbled upon a bug, and I though it would be a good idea to submit a bugreport. Hence, this topic. I have attached a small screenshot of my gmail account. (Leaving out the standard layout due to privacy and general negligability..) Of course, I would be more than happy to forward the series of messages to an address if requested. Likewise, I can give my email address when necessary in some private message. The emails all source from < newsletter@m1.instructables.com >. I run a windows7, ubuntu dual boot and browse in chrome (version 36.0.1985.125) but these stats seem to be irrelevant as the mail server does not directly interact with them :-) PS. I also came accross a java error, but did not have the presence of mind to take a screenshot of the stack trace. It was after resetting my pasword, logging in for the first time and then browsing to the forums through the main navigation from the homepage. (This probably is not detailed enough to get anywhere, but it perhaps plants a seed of intuition in the programmer that reads it which might help when someone else makes another report ^_^), In the glance I had at it, it seemed to concern reflection and the loading of the content page, which recursed once before reaching the error. (In the sence that in the content view, a complete version of the main navigation was included, yielding a somewhat smaller header identical in shape and function to the top-level one)
