leds

How do you connect 40 leds in a row. I need to run them on a small boat. Just looking for the best way thank you.

LEDS

I am wondering if you run a led at full voltage and amps then as you add more resistance light output goes down here is my question 1 led at 20ma or 2 led at 10ma do not 2 leds give more light than 1. Like is light output a linear taper to amount of current applied or is it more of an audio taper?

Replacing LEDs on a LED fan? Answered

If the LEDs are the same voltage, can i just cut the wires on the LED fan, and just simply re-solder the new LEDs onto the wires? I have been looking at several Instructables about replacing the LEDs on a fan, and they all have complicated re-wiring ideas..Can't you just simply replace the LEDs with the news ones?

Temperature and LEDs

Is there a way to control a group of LEDs or even an RGB LED with some sort of temperature sensor/thermometer? I'm new to electronics and wanted to know if you could have a Red LED glow when something relatively hot/warm was near and have a Blue LED glow when something relatively cold/cool was near by. I'm new to electronics and was just curious

Diffused LED

Hello, I am working on a lighting project. Right now I have a typical yellow LED (like so http://www.sparkfun.com/products/532) mounted in a 5" tube. It is shining through a frosted acrylic sheet at the end of the tube, 2" away from the LED. it creates a circle of intense light on the acrylic that is about 3" in diameter and then some ambient light around it. Are there any LEDs that are designed to diffuse light more so that the circle of intense light would widen and be a bit less bright? Thanks, Ben

Led Matrix

I want to make a simple led matrix out of some leds and a 5.6V phone charger, just for it to light up, no animations or any particular control to it, just a simple matrix with an on/off switch.  A link to some instructions? Much appreciated, and is there also some instructions out there to turn a basic light bulb socket to power leds?

LED advice

I'm trying to source some LEDs, preferably from a supplier in the UK I'm going to mount them on a power kite, so they need to be bright as possible, ideally with a wide viewing angle and low forward voltage - to keep the weight of power supply down. Also, I'm considering options of mounting LEDs in clusters or using a small diffuser (like a ping pong ball, but smaller) to achieve a 360deg viewing angle. Any suggested products or ingenious solutions would be welcome

blinking LEDs

I'm planning a sort of a Halloween Scavenger hunt. I'm planning to hide boxes along a wooded trail, each with a blinking red LED on top, which is what seekers would look for. I suppose that this is a super-simple question, but I've got no real experience in electronics. But I do work well with instructions. I would like to do about ten of these, so I would appreciate any advice on how to cheaply create a bunch of blinking LED beacons. THANKS!!!!

LED driver.

i want to make a LED light source, I have found a few on other places, but not sure of those. I have a 9v battery, 4LEDS.  If anyone would be so kind, I have two set ups I am considering. One will have a 555timer, to make the LEDS "pulse"    The other is just direct connect battery to LED i am aware a resisitor or several are needed for this direct arrainagement, so my question for this setup is how to make the most of it. a third option is to incorporate the two above.  *did find an instructable which used a wall plug as the driver, with some modification of course. thanks in advance.

LED Diffusion

I am using a flexible LED strip to illuminate some leaves on a lotus leaf for our art car. The leaves are made out of bent tubing which is then covered in fabric. The issue I am having is getting the light diffused across the surface. These photos show the issue and in actuality it's not as bad as the photo make it look. I'm wondering what tricks people have for getting diffusion. I have use backlight film in the past when having a panel of LEDs but this strip follows the contour of my shape. Any thoughts? Cheers. Would 4x AA batteries, light up 9 LED's in Parallel?(With a resistor of course) The LED's are 3 volt. I am making an LED belt for my Friend. I wired it up and only the red LED's lit up for some reason.( The colors used are red, green, and 1 blue) is there a problem in amperage or is there a short or something?

LED project

I am looking to create  an array of LED's attached to switches. There will be 14 LED's in total. 3 green LED's attached to a single 2-way switch, 8 red LED's attached in pairs to 4 3-way switches, and 3 white LED's attached to 3 more 2-way switches (3 seperate 1 switch:1 LED set ups. Nothing wierd or fancy there). I'd like it all to run off a single power source, light powered would be best, but if that turns out to be too complicated I'll settle for battery powered. My questions are: What kind of power source will I need to use? How is the best way to wire it? and What sort of equipment will I need (resistors, capacitors, etc)?

LEDs and resistors

I notice a lot of people tell you to always put a resistor on an LED. Should I use a resistor if my LED's forward voltage is the same as my power supply?

LED indicator

How should I drive an LED from a 38 volts power supply? The led wizard says I need a 1800 ohm, 2 watt resistor, but it also says' it'll disipate excessive heat. I recently took apart a surge protector and found that they drive an LED from a 120volt source by having a diode, LED and what appears to be either a 1 or 2 watt resistor. I need help driving an LED from a 38 volts power supply just as an indicator.
