DC motors & stepper motors

I have 13 stepper motors and 10 dc motors for sell. I just have way too many laying around. I would like to sell them all for 40 dollars shipped using paypal. I'm hopping to sell them to help fund my CNC project. I also might be adding more motor as I find them.

electric motors

I am considering motorizing my bike for my work commute. However I don't have enough knowledge about motor output as in torque / rpms to be able to determine what kind of characteristic I should be looking for. For many of the electric motors I am finding online, it doesn't really say the torque output. Is there a spec such as watts that I can judge a motor by? What specs should I be looking for in a motor that can assist in moving my weight. Or an links to good knowledge sites would be great too. Thanks.

Pager Motors

Is it possible to buy a pager motor, rather than ripping it out of an old phone or pager? If so, where would I go? (And if not, where would I go...)I'm looking to build a vibrobot http://www.evilmadscientist.com/article.php/bristlebot, but don't have the motor. Alternatively, is their something else I could use instead?

Universal motor

After disassembling a hedge trimmer I have obtained a universal motor (meaning it can run on either ac or dc) It has a power rating of 400W, and a label indicates that it has 1/2 horsepower. Does anyone have any ideas as to what to do with it? it's fairly small (15cm X 5cm X 5cm) and in reasonable condition. Thank you for any responses.

Rugged motors?

Does anybody know of a source of motors that are rugged enough to survive long-term* on the surf-line of a beach?  They wouldn't need to survive flying rocks, but saltwater and sand proof would be good. The plan is to use them in reverse, as generators, so DC is preferable. *In the first instance, "long term" means "more than half an hour".

Dryer motor

Alright folks, after my last posting of the washing machine motor failed to prove helpful, ( because of my lack of understanding, not the help offered, that was excellent ) I decided to scrap that idea and start anew, this time with a dryer motor. I have a motor here now that like before I simply want to be able to start and stop at will. This time around I have the original wiring diagram too! So, my question is how do I wire the thing, simply with an on/off switch? No variable speeds, no reverse directions, just on/off. Oh, and Id like it run on 110v as well.

Stepper Motors..

I recently pulled two stepper motors out of a working IBM dot-matrix printer. One larger, 3v one with 1.8 steps. The other is a smaller, 9.5v one with 7.8 steps. I am more interested in the large one right now. I managed to find out that the large one has center-tapped coils. I also found out that Coil 1 is red-white-brown, coil 2 is blue-black-yellow. I found the schematic below on http://ashishrd.blogspot.com/2007/09/computer-controlled-stepper-motor.htmlI was wondering how this could be adapted to control my motor from a PC program with the ULN2003 (that chip sounds like UT2003)? Here are the complete residences of what I found on the wires with a multimeter, in case that helps. Resistances:Red to Brown: 8 ohms (or 7 some times)Red to White: 4 ohmsWhite to Brown: 4Blue to Yellow: 7Yellow to Black: 4Black to Blue: 4

Brushless Motors

I have a few fans around from computers. Seems that 3 wires is pretty common for these. I wasn't sure which was what, so, I figured "nothin to lose" and hooked up the right voltage across 2 wires. My guess was right. It ran. But, having 1 out of 9 fanblades busted off, it shook a bit. So, I busted off 2 more blades to balance it. But now, even connecting it the same way, it doesn't run. So, how should a 3 wire brushless motor fan be wired?

Motors for Quadcopters

Hi, I am looking to make a quadcopter as my university project and I kinda run in to some problems deciding which motor I need to choose. I was thinking to choose brushless motors as they are more efficient and they give more RPM. HOwever, my professor says that there's no point using brushless/stepper motors as u can get the same RPMs using brushed motors and its the same thing. Hence, can anyone please guide me which motor is best to use and why should I use brushed or brushless motors. I shall be very glad if someone guide me through it. Thank you :)

DC motor

I had a 220v angle grinder. It was burnt. I take the rotor of the grinder out. Its completely fine. Now i make a DC motor using this rotor and magnets(for field current). My question is, how much maximum DC volts this motor can take to get the maximum RPM. Because the motor was 220v AC, Will it run on 220v DC?

Clockwork Motors? Answered

I was recently in the mood to make a small robot from scratch, however i wanted to be creative and make a clockwork motor as the driving force behind it. however, i do not know how such a motor functions, nor do i have any idea how to create such a device. also as a secondary topic any knowledge on where to procure gears of all shapes and sizes would be highly benificial to this and other projects i have in mind.

Motor Acquisition....

I have recently come into possession of a working vacuum cleaner motor (generic: only says 60 hz, 120 V on the side) with cord and switch still attached (also the fins on the motor that created the suction). I can't even find a manufacturer logo on it. Anyways...I am looking forward to using this in a future project. Just as an exercise, in case I am "thinking too small" what would you do with such a motor? It looks a LOT like this one:

Motor Clamp

I am extremely close to finishing Grathio's Secret Knock Detecting Door Lock (https://www.instructables.com/id/Secret-Knock-Detecting-Door-Lock/). I am about to mount to my door, but unfortunately the clamp (step 3) has not been working out for me, and in no way will the motor be strong enough to turn the lock. Any other suggestions on how to hook up the motor to the door? FYI: my casing is entirely different from that of his instructions. Thank you!

Lasers on motors

I am trying to create 8 motorised lasers that move (ideally randomly) between a 135˚ angle. I doubt with my level of knowledge i will be able to make them move randomly but if i can't just moving back and forth between the 135˚ would have to do.These motors would have to be reversable and travel between 2 points making an arc of 135˚, I'm looking at making this in the cheapest way possible. By mounting cheap pen lasers onto mini motors and somehow getting them do this. I will need to see the beams of light so unless i can find a better way to used focused light cheaply, i'll have to use a smoke machine or something. Having no real knowledge of this, would it be easily achievable, i would use a microcontroller to make the motor movement random within that 135 degrees but i have no idea how i'd go about it.

bicycle + motor

I want ot make a moped, but theres NO WAY im buying those expensive mofo, kits for $200 when i could just as easily build one, i figure all it needs is a motor of 50cc or less(state law says)i figure, a weed wacker is usually ranged from 20CC to 50cc ill try that but so far the most i have found is 32cc, i also figure it will require a chain and a drive train which i can fabricate from another bike. i hear chainsaws are very powerful like 40CC + range which sounds good but im just not sure about de-constructing one of those, if anybody has had any experience with motor bicycle please help

DC motor regulation

I am planning to build a small gearbox that depends on a steady rpm from a 3V dc motor. I understand that the output rpms will change in correlation to the fluctuation of input power. My question is, if I used a regulator to regulate the input voltage from 5V to 3V, will that keep the motor rpms steady?
