Mouse Mouse is Missing!

Mouse Mouse was last seen on tour with us at Austin's SXSW earlier this week. He made lots of friends at Dorkbot on Saturday, but someone walked off with him while we were setting up at Sunday's PopSci party! Did he go on walkabout, join a punk band, or leave with a cute female Mouse Mouse? We hope so, but suspect he was simply abducted and can't contact us for help. If you have any information, please let us know! No kidding, I only made one1 and would really like to have him back. Drop me a note if you've got any news on his whereabouts. We'll take him back, no questions asked.1Yes, I can and will make another, but it's my art project, and therefore unique. (You may know how to make more children, but still want to keep the ones you've made.)

Mice or mouses?

I was going to go off topic on an I'ble, but thought the question would be better asked in the forums. I have always wondered if the plural of mouse (as in the one connected to your PC) is the same as the plural of mouse as in the rodent (or favourite cartoon character). I think that the PC mouse is named after the rodent because of the physical similarity, but does that mean that they are the same? Plural of mouse (rodent), is mice. Plural of mouse (PC), mice or mouses? What are your thoughts? N.B. I have been drinking.

joystick to mouse

I don't like computer mice and touch pads, so I've bought a joystick. What's the best software to make it do a mouse's job? It's a "Thrustmaster" joystick, and my laptop is running Firefox in Ubuntu, because my dad won't pay for Windows to go on my laptop. Thanks, Conker-x.

PC mouse Mod

I have always wanted to see my electrical usage in real time. However, the watt meters available can not handle whole house wattage. I have an idea but lack the programing skills to pull it off. Use a modified usb mouse to read the dial as it spins and tabulate the totals. Because of the distance through the glass to the meter disk- a laser pointer may have to be used. Required to work: USB mouse Modified mouse driver- must not be recognized as a mouse in the PC customizable display output. Laser pointer? Anyway, if someone could help with the software that would be great- Thanks

Mouse trap car? Answered

I am building a mousetrap car that is giving me problems in propulsion.  I have attached an arm to the trap, I have moved the trap closer to the wheel.  I have added a second mousetrap, and it still doesn't work.  Any guesses on why the car isn't working?

Victor mouse Traps?

I am using the good old VICTOR spring mouse traps. I caught the first two bang with good old peanut butter. The next one i baited with peanut butter. They licked it clean! Not even a speck of peanut butter any where. Tried another victor trap. I thought the 3rd one might be defective? NO! The 4th trap, same thing> My son said I wasn't using enough peanut butter. So I crammed as much inside of it as normal. Then I added a bit more on top and sides. Again they cleaned it all off. Not even a speck left on the trap. Does anyone have a better idea? I feel like i am just feeding the mice. Maybe the first two were baby'sher975383@aol.coms?? And these are cunning adults? I am going to use mouse poison if I can't figure this out. My husband doesn't want poison because they can get in the wall an stink for ever. I do not have a better solution. I would be grateful if anyone has an answer for this!!!  I don't want filthy mice in my house! Thank-You, sugarbear

Rechargable Wireless Mouse

I had this idea a while back and have yet to see one made. Unfortunately I don't have the means to try it myself. What I thought was a wireless mouse which would be recharged with its own dongle. When the dongle is plugged into the computer the batteries inside would be charged up then when it is put into the mouse for storage those batteries would charge up the mouse. I don't really know a whole lot about electronics - despite perusing instructables now and then ;) - so I don't know if this is even possible. But I don't see why it couldn't be done, or why it hasn't been done yet {unless I just haven't found it}. Peace to you and yours, Matthew "Dra'Gon" Stohler

nes pc and mouse

Hey guys...i was just wondering two things. First, is it theoretically possible to build one of these nintendo pc's to be operated as a fully functional pc for gaming and internet use, with your tv as a monitor and to install jacks to be able to connect to a surround sound system? also, i am not too good with computers and all that jazz but ever consider a nes controller that would operate as a mouse? this, of course, would be assuming that you could use your pc in the way i mentioned above, if not it would be kind of pointless. i also thought it would be nifty if it could be a wireless deal...you know...just so you don't have to sit 3 feet away from your television...

On a 3 button mouse...

Is it possible to replace the IR receivers from the xy axis's, with a rotary encoder from the scroll wheel? Is it just a matter of removing the IR receivers and putting in scroll encoder dials from other mouses? Now on top of that same idea, can you use pots instead of the rotary scrollers? I cannot find a pinout from a scroll wheel or a IR receiver anywhere...one of these would be nice also. The mice I'm speaking of are the early type non lit underneath. However a workup of both types wouldn't hurt as this will help with the newer stuff. End result being able to use 3 separate dial axis and buttons from one HID mouse board.?

Wirelessly charged mouse

I need some help from all yall out there. My idea is a wirelessly charged mouse. The mouse pad acts as the transmitter coil, and the receiver is in the mouse. The concept might not be phenomenal for gamers, but would be a step into getting rid of wires on our peripherals and really making wireless charging reality. Perhaps a .2 farad super capacitor (.2 Farads ~ 400mAh) could be used to prevent the mouse from dying if you drag if off the pad for a few minutes. I'd need help conceptualizing it and for those of you who know about electronics, assisting me in designing a schematic. The design would be open source so we can have literally anybody contribute and improve the idea. Leave a reply if you want in!

LED Mouse Mod?

Ive been trying to do a mouse mod where an LED lights up everytime I click. Can someone please post an instructable? or else i will when i get it figured out. what i figured was that i would have an led with a resister hooked up to the 5v part of the circuit board on one of the legs.. then i would have the other leg soldered to a wire and to make the LED light up, the circuit would have to be completed by clicking the mouse down. But the problem is i cant do that without messin up the clicking function. when i tested it the mouse click would be stuck. So i will post an instructable when i figure this out if noone else does. please leave a comment if you figure something out.

Connecting a Gameboy to my Mouse.

I got a lot of Gameboys, (I bough em cheap to do some hacks) My Logitec mouse uses 5V ofc. My Gameboy needs his 3V.   So far I have heard that I should therefore use a 200ohm resistor. The question is, can I hook the Gameboy directly into the Mouses powersupply? Or do I have to add a second usb cable for it's power? Also, do I even need the resistor?

Help! mouse is being stupid!

HELP! My mouse has a clicking problem. In that; whenever i try to click, it doesn't work, and i find myself having to click multiple times with some force in order to get a result, but it's not consistent. Sometimes, it works straight off, and sometimes it takes upwards of 20 clicks, in order to get my computer to do anything. The problem's also isolated to only the left button, the right one's fine. I reckon it's just dirt or something in the mouse, but it's really inconvenient. Any ideas on what i can do to fix it? can i fix it? To give you something pretty to look at, here's a brass cog: Thanks for all the replies. I've just had the case off, and cleaned the rollers. I looked at the switch and there was no dirt packed around it. I clicked the switch without the case on and it still didn't work, which leads me to believe that it's actually the switch that's damaged, and therefore it's not worth trying to fix.

Strange problems with the mouse and keyboard? Answered

Must be bad karma for the new year but both my mouse and my keyboard are playing games with me on the PC. Of course they are wireless, mouse is a Logitech, keyboard some very old Aldi brand. After many years of good service they started to fail at the same time. And yes, I tried fresh batteries several times with no luck ;) Here are the current symptoms: 1. Keyboard Randomly keys I press fail to show up although the blinking on the receiver indicates an action was received. When typing a bit faster, and for me that is the two-finger-best-hope method a lot gets lost. My speed is slow enough to make a bad typist laugh in tears LOL In some rare cases I also get totally wrong results, usually somethe graphical character that otherwise need and ascii input to appear. 2. Mouse At times when the keyboard plays up the little rodent does the same. Here it means the pointer disappears or moves in jumps. Also mouse clicks on let's say a tab in the bowser often grab the tab or are not registered at all. It is now starting to annoy me, mainly bcause I failed to rectify this problem in any good way. Only system change in or before the problems started was the usual Windows 7 monthly update, but that came about a week before it all started. To make things worse the mouse uses Logitechs old wireles tech while the keyboard is in a totally different frequency and as said dirt cheap. I also fail to replicate the problem consistently or find a common cause. Funny thing: If used on my old Nexus tablet both perform just fine even from over 5m away. Would love to hear some thoughts on things to try or check... But so you know: Tried the drivers, different ports relocating the receivers and even a rollback of Windows to a state from Nov last year. Everything else connected to the USB ports performs fine. Am at the stage where I even accept weird things to try, so fire up please!

Extend optical mouse range

Hi all, I'm wanting to make a jig for a production project requiring a sensitive optical measure of movement with a focal length of 5-10 mm. I thought an optical mouse might be a good start but the lenses in a few I've tried require the device to be too close. It needs to be no bigger than the electronics of a mouse. If anyone has a lens that could be perfect or other ideas I'd love to hear them. Thanks, D

Mouse wheel battery charger?

Is it possible to make a (trickle?) charger for a 12V battery that runs off a mouse wheel (or several)? The battery is intended to be used to power a 70-100W TV through an inverter... Where can small (mouse/rat-powered) generators be found (or how to make them)? Could small electric motors be used? Is this even possible?
