New image layout sometimes doesn't display text box

Hi Instructables Debuggers, I noticed that the new image layout sometimes doesn't display the text boxes. This only appears to occur if there are 3 or more images on one step. I'm using Chrome on OSX 10.7 Thanks for looking into this!

A New Gun by Logic Boy?

Hey guys If you haven't noticedyou will see that I haven't made anything new since my PP19, everything that I have made has either been an improvement to something else or I never got around to finishing it. well my creative slump is over. I recently got some new knex and I now have built a new gun *gasp* it is actually the full completion of an older concept of mine that worked really well but wasn't exactly what I wanted originally. So I now have a pretty awsoime new gun. Pictures will be posted this weekend. Until then try to guess what it is. Hint: I have posted the name of the gun somewhere Good luck.

new knex machine gun ideas

I have a request for a knex machine gun that works sort of like a real machine gun. The bullets (barrels on the chain) fire and when the ammo leaves the barrel, something happens to move the chan around. Any suggestions? Maybe someone could try this and build a whole new class of machine guns!

New button!

We need a new button on instructables pages...a printer friendly button! Like you see on other sites, you would click it and it would give you a nice, cleaned up, ads and image free, printer friendly version of the 'ible. What do you think?EDIT:aHA! I found it! But Canida is right, it dosen't turn out perfect. And, IMO, it needs to be way more prominent. It was like where's Waldo or something!:D

My TRUE Semi auto

The Semi Auto I have came back to my semi auto, I made one when I first started knex, barely shot, not reliable at all, I've remade it over the past 4 days, it has a new mag, new system, new internal mag pusher and new way of loading. Pros Semi auto Removeable mag Internal pusher Takes less than 30 seconds to detach the mag, load 14 bullets and re-attatch the mag Not many pieces Shoots in an almost straight line Cons Bad range (around 7-10) Not that reliable Jams if not fired right Uses 11 Y clips

Welcome to my new account!!! on this account there will be stuff that doesnt come under knex (if your looking for knex then go to slithien). im still doing knex but i normaly take breaks from it so i will be jumping around between the two accounts. this account will also have much more frequent posts because if i get bored of jokes i can do riddles or if i get bored of facts i can do somthing else. this channel will also have more contests but they wont be as big as my others. i will also star the impossible box who was created on my previous channel. thats all i have to say for this new account for now so im going to go post some of everything to start of this channel and then make o forum on my old account about this one. i will make a new profle picture for this account some time later. so of you go and explore a all new world of slithien!!!

I'm in the New York Times!! (So are some other people you might know)

I'm in the New York Times magazine! After Randofo posted about their Innovation Contest, I submitted a few of my projects, and my beach-skates got chosen as a judges winner! OK, so they've reduced an entire instructable to two dozen words and and an icon, but I'm still in the second-largest newspaper on the planet! (Oh, and two others of the top four choices are also Instructablers...)

New removable mag idea

The mag slides through the other layers like a rail system (see pic 2-4). Then when you fire the firing pin keeps the mag in place (pic 5). The mag also has a long hole on one side so that the mag pusher doesn't have to have a long stick going out of it. That's the new idea so anyone can use it now if they give credit to me. =)=)       (i also give credit to the jamalam)

New Instructables Categories and Channels

What's new Over the past few months, one of our big projects has been building new categories and channels for Instructables.  We're doing this to make it easier for users to find content and to make more compelling products for advertisers.  Much of the existing content has been recategorized by algorithm or by someone here at the lab, but we'll need your help both in making sure we (or the robot) got it right.  So, I wanted to give you a heads-up before the new scheme goes live, explain why we think it's important, and ask for your help! Why we're updating categories The existing categorization scheme with its 18 channels has served us well, but we've outgrown it.  First, the channels are too broad to meaningfully help a new user find more of the content they are excited about.  Should a new user arrive to a knitting Instructable from a Google search, they often have trouble finding other knitting Instructables within the Craft channel.  Related Instructables are helpful, but aren't clicked as often as we'd like, and don't give an immediate sense of the variety and number of knitting Instructables we have available.  The primary and secondary channels associated with an Instructable put yet another stumbling point in this new user finding more great content.  To new users, it's not immediately obvious that we allow multiple channels per Instructable, so when they are browsing through the Craft Instructables, it can be confusing to see a project with LEDs or a home repair project that happen to have Craft as their secondary channel.  This has been a similar point of confusion for our advertisers, who don't understand our current channel system. I'll be sad to see our two-channel categorization scheme go, but it's a necessary change to improve the way the site functions.  It feels a little bit like we're growing up! How the new categories and channels work To address these issues, we've created five new top-level categories and, within each category, lots of new channels.  Each Instructable will be placed in a single category and a single channel within that category.  The new categories are Living, Outside, Play, Technology, and Workshop.   • Living has all things related to crafting, decorating, cooking, parenting, and organizing. • Play has all things related to fun and games. • Workshop is everything one might do in a workshop or shed: home improvement, woodworking, and working on cars or bikes. • Technology and Outside are very similar to the existing Outdoors and Tech channels. Only five top-level categories might seem like too few, but remember that the vast majority of new visitors come directly to an Instructable via search - these folks will see other channels related to the Instructable they're viewing. For example, someone first coming to Instructables via a search for a sewing project will see that the project is in a sewing channel, that we have a knitting channel, and that both are in our Living category. Someone who has an account on Instructables is smarter than the average internet-searcher (in my opinion), so our community will quickly learn how to navigate the new structure. Hopefully we'll all discover lots of new Instructables in the process! How to recategorize your Instructables Log in, and go to your Instructable.  Click the "Change Keywords, Category(s), License" text in the Author Options box, and you'll see a section called "New Categories."  Pick a top-level category from the upper drop-down menu, then select a channel from the second menu.  Hit Update, and you're done!  When the new organization scheme is visible on the site in a few weeks, this is the category and channel your Instructable will appear in. We're still working out the kinks in this new system, and expect to be creating and combining channels as needed to make finding things on the site easier.  While you must pick a category, if you don't see a channel that matches your project, you may choose to leave it unsorted.  We'll keep an eye on unsorted projects, and will either sort it or update the channels as needed. Thanks for your help!  We hope this new scheme makes it easier to find the projects you want to see on Instructables.

New tabs.

The new tabs work, but they are counter-intuitive, and not as functional as I would expect. I would propose that the "More" tab be renamed "Community", to give a better indicator of what you will find there. Plus, I suggest that the "Explore" tab include an "All Recent" option, to allow people to see all the latest projects, without having to trawl all the categories to find out. See also: Frenzy's announcement. Goodhart's thread. Steveastrouk's thread. Mpilchfamily's thread. I am also starting to find it bleedin' annoying that a brief drift of the cursor too close to the top of the page means half my screen is covered by the drop-down menu.

New Editor Header 3 Formatting Bug

I'm writing a new Instructable using the New Editor, and the formatting on my intro page keeps reverting to an incorrect formatting. I start off with one sentence written in normal text formatting followed by a couple of line breaks. Then, I have the word "INTRO" in Header 3 formatting followed by a line break then a line in italicized normal text. After a short while,  the word "INTRO" will change to normal text formatting and the line break will be replaced by a space so that the following italicized normal text line is next to the word "INTRO". I've tried correcting this several times, and it just keeps eventually reverting back to the undesired formatting. I have similar formatting in other parts of my Instructable, but this is the only place I've noticed this change occurring. Before and after pictures are attached.

The new editor is playing up again and need some help

Hey guys, The new editor is playing up again, on one of my instructables, The Plasma Speaker, I edited a few steps and after I saved and previewed, all the text on the intro bit disappeared. I did NOT edit the intro. Because I have been away for a long while I don't remember what I put in the intro, and I don't have any PDF's to backup my work. :( Does anyone happen to have a PDF of the plasma speaker that I could use to restore the intro? It will be greatly appreciated! :)

new vs. old

I found that i use older and slower computers more than i do my desktop modded to be fast, it's the fastest computer in my house! still for some reason i keep using an overheating, amd 366 laptop to play dos games and a pentium 4 laptop with 256mb of ram, instead of my desktop with a celeron D 3.23ghz (overclocked of course, how else?) and 1gb of ram. why? lol.

I Just got a Brand new Atari 2600!!

So I decided to be a super nice boyfriend and completly re-do my girlfriends condo. during the process I ended up in the basement trying to move an old armour... during my frustration in moving it I took a short break and was rifling through old junk for entertainment. short story short, I stumbled upon a brand new Atari 2600 with like 15 cartridges. I guess she got it when she was a kid but never even had intrest enough to open it up and receved new cartridges every so often... she gave it to me!!!. I can't wait to crack this thing open and start gaming it up...lol. on the other hand... I'm unable to decide if I should even open it... I mean how often do you see an Atari still in its packaging

Can't upload images in new instructable?

I can't seem ot upload images for my new instructables. The uploader ( either one I tried both ) seems to proceed  normally however the image display says "image not found". Even more tedious if this is the first image the step is no longer accessible from the list of icons at the top. The only way i found to edit the step and remove the image was to re-order the steps and then click the edit button on the list. To reproduce: create an instructable with several steps and no images. Select one of the steps and upload an image either from a file on the local disk or from a URL. My results: The upload will proceed without error but the image will not be displayed and the step is no longer accessible from the list at the top.

The New Update

This forum topic is in the bugs section. I don't know... It's just my opinion... I wasn't online yesterday, but today, I came back, and (we) had a wonderful surprise... I like changes. I just like them, when they're the other way around... I've already written my thoughts here: https://www.instructables.com/community/Have-you-seen-the-update-to-your-profile-page/ I'm sure the staff has worked very hard on the new update, but why? What will Instructables earn from the new update? Why is it better than before? Am I confused and this is an April Fool's prank? There are many members that don't know what the forums are, and don't have a way of expressing their feelings about the new bug. It would be great if this was explained in an email. I know that Autodesk acquired Instructables a few years ago. The newsletter has changed and has become a bit more Autodesk-y. Does this has anything to do with that? This update might be better for viewers, I don't know. However, if it isn't comfortable for us, content producers, Instructables will just have to re-use old Instructables, because we will leave... Please take into account what we have written. Thank you. Maybe this is a Part oe for the update. I might be wrong. Thanks in advance for the replies?

New Bring Me the Horizon Album

Bring Me The Horizon - Suicide Season (anyone a fan of the band here? they're grindcore) To me this album was kind of a let down after there last two albums, some of the songs sounded a little slipknotish, (sorry but I can't stand slipknot, please no arguments lol), but the breakdowns and lyrics were superb, one of the reasons I love this band so much. Overall this album is pretty dece, but not nearly as good as there older stuff. favorite song on the album is "Diamonds Arn't Forever" by far what did you guys think of it?

New lift ideas.

I have a couple lift ideas that im going to share, but no stealing! >:-( 1. Spoon lift. the ball waits on a path, and a "spoon" that rotates on an axis comes down, picks the ball up and drops it at the top.                             0 ______                              I                              I                          _______ 0 - - - - - o this is a picture of the idea. the ball waits at the ramp (the line) and the two spoonlike things would be the two positions of where the ball would get on and off. the line at the top is the exit path. 2. bar lift. this is basically a chain lift, but with a rod sticking out horizontally. the ball is picked upby the bar, then deposited at the top.                     0            the zero is the chain and the hyphens are the rod. the ball is cushioned                  -------         the chain and rod. obviously, the rod would be connected somehow.                                   This is supposed to be an aerial view, so it kind of looks like a chainsaw. If you want any pictures of these lifts, i will post some pictures. Feel free to post any other ideas for new lifts.

New Knex ball machine contest closed Winner: Purple Waffles

As some may know I have started a new ball machine. I'm planning to make it my largest yet using over 20,000 pieces.  Here's the contest: This will work a bit like hangman. You guys guess letters until someone guesses the answer and the one who finds out the name of the ball machine will get frequent updates on Skype or Email with pictures of the ball machine plus a preview on another project I'm working on. Shadowman39 will also be providing a patch to the winner (Thanks Shadow).  Two letters will already be given and spaces to fill in the rest. As poeple say letters I will add them to the phrase. Rules: You may only guess ONE LETTER per day. If you guess a letter that appears twice in the name then only one of the letters will appear. Some people who already know what the ball machine is called CAN NOT give away any answers in any way (I'm talking to you Shadowman39). You have to guess the whole phrase. you may not guess part of the phrase. Without further ado, let the contest begin! DRAGON   JEWEL Good luck members and happy guessing. :-)  Purple Waffles won the contest. Thanks for participating

VAWT a new way to wind generation

Guys need help to realise its feasiblity and pros & cons. This project will comprise of a renewable energy source which is controlled by TI msp430 controller by closed loop system. This renewable energy source will use a magnetically levitated vertical axis wind turbine with single phase permanent magnet alternator made by our team. There will be 3 stationary wind guide vanes/flaps of concave shape on the outer periphery of turbine. These vanes will be controlled by dc gear motor for constant wind flow and protection against high speed winds. Using perturb & observe MPPT algorithm on DC-DC boost converter, constant DC voltage for GRID integration is made. A lower energy Bluetooth module will send data on user computer about whole system parameter, hence making the whole system to be smart and hence data is saved in database. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fC5hYLjhO9U

Another new k'nex machine gun

I have just had a really good idea for a semi or full auto gun, although I do have a tendency to make weird guns but by all means try to make this one.Right here goes,You have arms 'thing that holds string' attached to the barrel by a hinge, there is a spring or rubber band underneath, when you pull the trigger the arms let go of something that keeps them back, the spring (or rubber band) will fling up making the string taught, which pushes the firing pin. The arms also push forward the slides on rails, they hit the springs at the left side and rebound with enough force to push the arms back down, then repeat.Pro's-It's quite compact-I'm thinking it might be powerful-It's new-and if someone makes the mech Ill put it in an L85A2.Con's-Hard to make-Brain-bogglingly difficult to understand (just think about it a few hundred times and that's me!)I hope the drawing's detailed enough, sorry bout no pics of the real thing (I'm not very good at fixing things together).Hope someone makes this.Bye =DIf you don't understand or are just wondering bout something just post a comment.

A million ways to skin a cat.

A Million Ways to Skin a Cat. I have to say that one of my favorite places in the web is https://www.instructables.com. Waking up to that email on thursday mornings, the https://www.instructables.com news letter makes me happy im such a geek. I love to read the peoples reviews and each individual point of view... those comments sometimes really get me going....  I have done a few DIY form this site but I guess I am not a forum/comment guy.  (to be fair this is my first post on a forum since 2008) And now... to the point .  I invite https://www.instructables.com to help us geeks challenge each other while improving the site with a simple new feature. A Million Ways to Skin a Cat Basically get from "step a" to "step b" you an follow different approaches.   A step or a process in an "instructable" may be improved or explained in any other way. This feature  enables users to set there creations free and make all the community share there ways and get to the optimization of projects.    Think of the search for a new project starting from a proces you already know.  For example: using a DREMEL tool on wood.  You could se many instructables containing this keywords, but what if you could see the process of carving wood, explained in detail on many ways, by many users. The user will share his method, and experience or simply pitch in with some new info or detail he might have encounter or needed during the process.  On the GUI I imagine below the next step lower right button a button that says something like "MORE" or "A.A. (another approach"). This button coul also link to another instructable that has a detail guide on how to do the process at hand.  Instructables will start to branch out and interconnect to form an organic and hands on detail database.   Any ways thats my humble idea. I wish it helps this site to grow and keep helping people.  P.S. Maybe you have another way, who knows if out there are one million more ways...

IDEAS???

'CMON, I thought this was the idea-thinktank? Where are all the ideas? You know, some say that those who can't do something are the best when it comes to innovating about that thing because they don't know the limits of what can and can't be done.... That's what the rest of us are here for.

Which type of computer is best?

Ok, so my father has offered to pay for HALF of a new computer. But which type is the best? Macs are very aesthetic, but expensive. I also would be dual booting it with windows. PC's are cheaper, but sometimes that also reflects in the hardware. My only requirement is that it be gaming compatible. Big monitor, if it's like a iMac and has one built in. High performance graphics. I'd like atleast 4gb of memory, but 8+ would be delightful. Harddrive space isn't really an issue, since I am currently using about 60 gb. I have something like $400 right now. I could probably make that around 800 - 900 by the end of the summer. So a Mac is defiantly a possibility. Also, I'm a student so I get a $100 dollar rebate from the Mac store.
