Anyone know how to make an Organic LED panel???

Http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organic_LED I have been keeping an eye on this for a long time and have been looking around on google every now and again . What im looking for is and  instructable for OLED's that give off light , im pretty sure how to make a flexible tv screen is something we would all like to know. I am just curious if its possible to make any flexible OLED at home whether it be just giving off light or a tv screen. Please if anyone knows the full process make a step by step don't just explain the theory like in the wiki or here http://www.ehow.com/how_2246666_make-organic-led.html Here is an example of what im looking for http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZfrFX36Hkc&feature;=related In the very least this could be cool for making clothes, costumes, indoor lighting, etc. In the best case scenario this would be used for a home made pip boy, laptop, cellphone,tv  I have been seeing allot of fully functional concept models but no solid release dates for retail. Despite the fact its allot cheaper to make tvs with this, im sure it would be twice as expensive to buy.

New categories? E.g. Homesteading

Dear Instructables, I am an organic gardener and smallholder/homesteader and most of my instructables are related to these topics, however apart from 'Pets', which is OK because my birds are very friendly and tame, there is no specific category for my Instructables. I have noticed that there are many people posting poultry instructables and it would be great if they could be grouped together. I also suggest, seeing the amount of relevant posts, that there should be a category which covers, permaculture, organic (food/horticulture and agriculture) and one for homesteading. Instructables is very well served on the engineering/science/computing side but it would be great to have a balance. Best Wishes, Pavlovafowl aka Sue

Colossal (to me, anyway) Compost Kerfuffle

[warning: contains some rant-like content]I am so angry that I can't see straight. My apartment building has a Community Garden, which is good. Our rules and guidelines which are especially emphatic about keeping the gardens all natural and organic, and chemical and pesticide-free. To this end, there is an "Approved Garden Products" list specifying the chemicals and fertilizers that may be used in the gardens. The list includes "Walt's" brand organic fertilizer, "Cedar Grove" compost, and six product made by Miracle-Gro.I had two 4' x 5' plots in the Community Gardens last year, which I heavily amended with the compost from my worm bins. I submitted a request to have an organic fertilizer mix that I have on hand added to the approved list, but the only response I received was another employee telling me: "I emailed Jane (not her real name) about it, and she emailed back to tell to you that Walt's is the best one to use." I should have followed up on this, but was too angry and aghast to speak to Jane about it immediately, and later never did get around to grasping that particular nettle. This year I'm doing just one 4' x 5' plot. I dug in some compost on Sunday, and on Tuesday I received the following letter (all names have been changed for internet purposes):Dear Ms. Gorfram,I wanted to follow up with you regarding an email I received about "homemade" compost that you may be using in your garden. The garden agreement has specific items that can be used in the garden, unless you are using a combination of those ingredients, your "homemade" compost hasn't been approved yet. If you would like to submit the ingredients of your compost for review we can take a look at it and try to get it on the list as well. In the mean time please use only the Cedar Grove compost or any other product on the approved list.We appreciate you help in this matter.Sincerely,Jane Doe,Property Manager(Spelling and punctuation very much hers, very much verbatim)She insulted my compost. She accused me of violating the gardening agreement. She is demanding that I list every last darned thing that I ever put into my compost and submit it to her for approval. She appears to be confusing my compost with the fertilizer that I asked to have added to the approved list. She either does not necessarily believe that I do make my own compost, or she is misusing quotation marks to indicate emphasis. ...She insulted my compost! Not wanting to alienate the manager of my apartment building by telling her that she is a slavering ignoramus who does not know the difference between compost and fertilizer, I responded with the following:In re: your letter of June 9, 2009Dear Ms. Doe,Perhaps there is some misunderstanding about my use of soil amendments in my Community Garden plot. The compost that I use in my garden plot contains no chemicals or pesticides. It is made entirely from vegetable waste from my kitchen and garden, to which I add water and locally native earthworms. It is my understanding that this sort of bulk organic matter does not need to be reviewed for the Approved Garden Products list. In answer to a related question asked at the July 15, 2008, Community Gardener's Meeting, John Galt (n.b. Jane Doe's boss) said, "As long as it doesn't contain pesticides or chemicals, you don't need to tell us about it."The email your letter refers to may have been in regard to my August, 2008 request to have "Dr. Earth Organic 7" fertilizer added to the Approved Gardening Products list. For your convenience, I have attached a new copy of the information about "Dr. Earth Organic 7" and its ingredients that I submitted with my request. I look forward to receiving approval of "Dr. Earth Organic 7" for use in the Community Gardens, or a statement of your reasons for denying this request, soon.Thank you,Evelyn Q. GorframAm I nuts? Should I be this mad? Should I tell her to take her 20 square feet of soil and suggest where she might put them? Should I demand that we duel at dawn unless she publicly retracts her dread insults to my compost?

How to keep FLIES away from your food!

I discovered this little "trick" (quite by accident) when I was grilling last week.  Flies do not like onions!  A few slices of raw, sliced red onion in the immediate vicinity of your food will keep disgusting flies from dining on your edibles. Onions are so effective, I'm tempted to make a pair of hoop earrings out of 'em!   Maybe onion perfume? oh, the possibilities! ;-D

How Should I Organize Electrical Components

Organize my favorites...?

I believe I have over 170 favorite instructables and it keeps growing. Some I have built and others I have used to get ideas or reference while making my own projects.  It sure would be nice to have a feature that would help organize them. Right now it's easier to use the search engine feature than to look in my favorites. Now that shouldn't be the case. Is this a feature available to Pro members?

Organize favorites

I'd love the ability to organize my favorites into categories that I choose.  I'm a science teacher and use instructables for various lesson ideas.  Some are for physics classes, biology classes, chemistry classes, just for fun, etc. This would make finding my favorited instructables easier to find and also convenient for sharing groups of instructables with my students.

mini organ from harmonica

I  had an idea other day concerning harmonica.  Why couldn't one take a harmonica, run air tubing from an air source, one tube to each hole of the harmonica, use some sort of valves that can be triggeered by a keyboard, Voila, mini organ.  I am not interested in doing this myself but I think it could be pretty cool.  For one thing I think it would make a harmonica capable of playing multi note chords.  Some that would be impossible to play by mouth.

Audio

I've got a 2 channel color organ with an electret mic for input. I'd like to be able to remove the mic and run it directly from one side of a stereo output from a cd player. I know I need to have something there to replace the mic, but I'm an audioidiot. Thanks. BTW, this is for a puking skeleton for Halloween. The color organ will drive the pump, while the audio will be, well, the audio.

It is not the organizations that suffer it is the people they help who suffer.

midi organ type thing

Hello. love this site - have done for years but this is my first post...so, hello! um, i would like to hear from anyone who might be willing to talk with me about building an odd midi organ (?) based instrument. I had the idea for this years ago and it has become clear to me that I will never get around to making it. Of course I would pay good money for anyone willing to make it. To find out more / start a discussion, please email me - sam AT uncoolsam DOT net. thanks, sam.

3-channel RGB LED Color Organ

Pretty much I want to make a 3-channel color organ and hook it up to a single RGB LED. I'm really not used to analog electronics, but I'm pretty sure this could be achieved with a single quad op amp IC. Seeing as I would much rather trust your guys' expertise over my lack of said knowledge, I thought I'd ask the experts. I did get a schematic in Multisim, but I'm really not sure about the functionality.

How are forums organized?

I think there is a lot of good information within the Forum section of the site, but I have not been able to figure out if there is any particular organization to it.  I do fine when I click on Forum, then there is a list of topics, or divisions, alphabetically arranged.  But click on one of those topics, and it seems there is no order or organization at all.  There are buttons for:post, posts and topics, topics, featured, etc, but clicking on them doesn't seem to alter much, if anything?  It would be nice if things were arranged either: alphabetically, numerically, by author, by date, by topic, etc.  Or am I missing something (which is very possible, I admit...) Any help and or enlightenment would be appreciated, thank you.

What's the best way to organize your photo library?

I've only posted 2 instructables but have over a hundred photos. Is there a way to make folders in my library? I saw the FAQ on Tags but I'd rather not have to scroll through many sections to get to the ones I need. Also... If you clean out your library, will it delete images from your instructables? (Are the images from your instructables always referanced back to your library?) Thanks! Mikey

Great idea!

Brilliant idea! :) If I were doing it I'd try to provide the following options: 1. wholesale (organic fairtrade) foodstuff 2. retail (organic fairtrade) ingredients for "cook your own" delicious nutritious meals (ideally with an option to use facilities on-site if possible, otherwise at home) 3. (organic fairtrade) restaurant serving meals. The trick would probably to be to come up with a few easy tasty healthy meals and bulk buy the ingredients. But with input from everyone in the wonderful open source way that shouldn't be a problem :)

Happy ThanksGiving everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving.  On the 25th I made an apple pie with a crumb top and on the 26th I'll make a green bean casserole and mashed potatoes. My dad will make the turkey and he also made Crab Dip-it and a Pumpkin pie. The day a lot of the fat americans gorge themselves half to death, and the rest also gorge themselves, just not as much. Remember: "Don't panic! It's organic." And, "Make your Plastic Fantastic."

New Animal Welfare Organization

Hello, I would like to share a concept I have been initiating for the past few weeks. I am seriously considering starting a new international organization website for the welfare of animals. Targets of interest would be adoptions, animal abuse petitions, awareness of social and domestic problems, and more. The main aspect of this organization will a website dedicated to spreading news about related topics to the world.      This would be a nonprofit NMI (no money involved) organization, and I am already aware of the legal steps necessary to start a charity of this kind.       Furthermore, I would like to hear popular opinion on the following points; -Name: The name would be AnActs. "An" is short for both "ANimal" and the word "an" itself. -Motto: "Animal Acts of kindness go a long way." -Growth: AnActs would start as a local organization, based in Ohio, and we would hopefully spread around the world with the creation of our website. -Staffing: We would need a full-time staff of moderators for the website, volunteering with the incentive of service hours and professional skills. -Real-life contributions: AnActs would be involved in rescue and biological services both in domestic and natural domains.      If you could give your opinion on any or all of the above points, or anything else in general about the proposed "AnActs," it would be deeply appreciated. Also, if you are interested on being involved in the initiation of this organization, feel free to contact me via Private Message-but be aware, this is in the VERY early stages of development.       If you want to see the test community, see the recently started AnActs community on Google Plus. We are already gaining members! If you have a Google Plus account, feel free to join and share!      I (Nerfrocketeer) have large amounts of experience both in starting NMI organizations (the NK3AE) as well as working in Nature. I am NOT, however, a professional in any field relating to animals. I would really appreciate your input. -NK

"Organ donors"... or: sources for tube project parts...

The "Vacuum Tube" group needs a first forum topic. Here it is... Sorry 'bout the pun... but I could have used Time to get Organized... Be thankful ;-)Vacuum tubes and parts tend to be rather expensive these days. But there's a good source for parts, and it's often free: old tube organs.I picked up a working 1960 Wurlitzer a couple days ago. It's got:-- full complement of tubes (the mother lode!), including9 (nine!) 12AX7 preamp tubes.2 6L6-GC power tubes1 5U4-GB rectifier(there were other tubes: (28!) 12fq8's but they're not so useful for audio...)-- Huge power transformer-- Large (20-25 watt) output tranformer-- two 16 ohm speakers-- lots of carbon-comp resistors, sockets and other reusables.Total cost--just gas, and a sore back.Even the non-tube organs are a good source of speakers, reverb tanks, pedals, etc. The tank, bass pedals and the volume pedal were from a solid-state Conn organ left on the curb...The bass pedals could be made into a MIDI project, and the volume pedal would be a nice start of a wah, or left as-is. Yeah, they are grungy, but that's easy to fix....

Help with building a reel

I have got problem with long wires of power and audio and I decided I must find a way to organize it all. How to build it just in bigger dimensions? thanks:)

Help me make a sturdy desk organizer box from 8mm MDF wood.

I'm trying to organize the bar area in my restaurant. I'm thinking of an front open box with a couple of dividers for temporary papers, notebooks pens and a compartment for beer and wine openers and such.. This is the waiters (currently just me the owner) places orders on the computer. I want to minimize the space taken from the bar so I'd like to use thin wood like this leftover 8mm MDF piece I have. I thought of cutting the sides to required sizes and then gluing them together but I'm not sure that would be strong enough to hold the approximately 5kg screen on top. It's a touch screen, so for safety I want it to hold a maximum of 8kg. TL;DR Any suggestions? How do I join pieces to make something like this

Can it be possible to seperate favorites with folders?

I, like many in this community have loads of favorites....it would be great if I could organize it by separating it in folders. Is it possible for the  tec team of  instructables to  make it possible for us to organize our favorites by making it possible to put them in folders?? You could make it 'Pro Membership" benefit if you would prefer. Also...Is it possible to again include the Hit totals in contest by again adding the 'VIEWS' Tab? It would be so much easier...especially for some contest which have like 600++ entries!! Then we could see the new and the old easily....else who is going to go and check the entries...18 by 18 by 18!! Thanks!

Hey Instructables, See anything usable here?

I'm not sure whether or not this works or not, but pictured is an old electronic Organ I found out on the curb during Halloween, I proceeded to do what any 'ables maker would do, grab this 70lb monster and ran like a madman. I'm tempted to plug it in in the basement and see if it still functions, but I'm scared to.

Favorites grouping

I love this site and there's so many instructables I have in my favorites that it's hard to keep them all organized or even find one when I need it.  I'd love to see a way to group or organize them.  Possibly create your own groups or be able to tag them and sort by tag names, etc.  I was thinking maybe a system similar to youtube. Or maybe this is already implemented and I'm horribly blind!  hehe Anyway, thanks for listening :)

Electrically Conductive Plastic: a general discussion.

I find i have an odd set of interests. Specially with regards to this forum.  I'm interested in electrically conducting plastics. I've been hitting the Wikipedia pretty hard looking for information on the topic.  I've found a couple of interesting articles:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polythiophene http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyaniline My main reason for pursuing this as of late is because I think electrically conductive plastics offer a way to create high efficiency photovoltaic cells on the cheap (least relative to growing pure Silicon crystal without oxygen contamination).  Azodyes, which are popular doping agents for current thin film photovoltaic cells  can be linked directly to the organic back bones of the polymers, and i think this will make the conversion of photons into electrons more efficient. There's other organic compounds (specifically i'm thinking of metallocenes which can be used to generate positive valences, also known as "holes" within the molecular structure of the plastics) which can be used to dope an organic solar cell, but azodyes are the most obvious. Anyway... gonna hit up google. if any y'all have ideas post em up.

70-note "Bottle Organ"

Here's one for you... I'm looking to create a 70 note bottle organ, inspired by this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzucpFgi7Xk Except I'm wanting to build mine in a more "automatic" state - played via MIDI notes, an arduino and lots and lots of solenoids making spoons hit the bottles.. That side of it I've got covered thanks to other excellent instructables which have taught me a lot about micro electronics. What I am currently trying to work out is if there is a way to change the pitch of bottles in any way except simply adding water. Would another liquid achieve the same results with less "spill risk"? Does it even need to be a liquid? I'm guessing it needs to be a liquid as I believe the physics of the noise made when a bottle is struck is based on the water absorbing vibrations, making them slower and lowering the pitch. If anyone has experience tuning multiple bottles to be struck as an instrument then please do reply! Alternatively if anyone has any novel suggestions for things which would be easier to persuade 70 notes out of then please also reply! End goal - be able to play flight of the bumblebee at full speed with chords and out-nerd the guys in the video. Ideally on bottles. Many thanks! Leo

I have a question about how to organize what I have been doing for the past 8 months. . .

Many of you know I am, part time, mentoring and teaching science to a young lady with Asperger's syndrome.  Partly because I have so much fun with them, and partly from just forgetting, I tend to not use my camera nor camcorder much if at all.  Aside from that, I am NOT sure how to present/organize it all.   Each "session" contains between 5 and 30  different "experiments" some as simple as comparing a rubber ball rolling down an incline to a paper tube doing the same thing up to the making and use of lab equipment. The subject matter is diverse, from physics to chemistry to astronomy. I would appreciate any adive.   Thank you.

The New Pollution

A green revolution is supposed to lead us to a utopia where the birds chirp and the human stain is smaller on the planet, but sometimes the new looks a little too much like the old.Take this story about biofuel plants dumping glycerin into rivers. Sure, it can be broken down by organisms, but it still causes big problems when dumped into ecosystems, just like the black stuff."They're really considered nontoxic, as you would expect," said Bruce P. Hollebone, a researcher with Environment Canada in Ottawa and one of the world's leading experts on the environmental impact of vegetable oil and glycerin spills."You can eat the stuff, after all," Mr. Hollebone said. "But as with most organic materials, oil and glycerin deplete the oxygen content of water very quickly, and that will suffocate fish and other organisms. And for birds, a vegetable oil spill is just as deadly as a crude oil spill." Link to nytimes articlevia treehugger

A "To Do List"

How cool would it be to have a "to do" list on here? I love the favorites feature, and agree with other posters that it needs to have a way to easily organize your favorites or search within your favorites. (I'm not sure about all it has, can't afford a pro membership yet) But, for those with pro, I could see how a to-do list would be sweet, where you can add an instructable to your "to-do" list and go back later and prioritize the items within it. Kinda like how Amazon has the priority wish lists.
