PC internet problems

Hello, For some reason, My pc will cut off internet to websites and such, while maintaining connection with things like Skype and certain parts of steam (e.g. Chat, games, etc, but not store, profile, anything website-based) and all I have to do is restart my PC, which is anoying, cause my pc starts up slow, and has a myriad of startup programs. Has anyone had this problem before, and fixed it? please help me out, I would be very thankful. Thanks in advance,            Krayzi99

timer-control of PC?

I'm trying to find a simple way to turn on my PC multiple times each day. I use the BIOS to turn it on now to record radio streams. I'd like something external to the PC, and something I could use to set several On Times each day. I don't know where to start. Should I attempt adding a relay to parallel the PC's power switch and then activate the relay? Should I attempt to build Rube Goldberg mechanism to mechanically activate PC's power switch? Wake-On-Lan doesn't seem to be the answer as how would I reliably send signal while I sleep? Even if you don't know of something specific, I'd be interested in where to look or approaches to investigate. Thanks, Scott

outdoor pc box

I have a big outdoor plastic closet with shelfs in my garden. i want to place a pc with crt screen inside heating the space in which the pc and screen are to be located is 1/4 m3 (1 m wide x 1/2 m deep x 1/2 m height between the shelfs) or 1/2 m3 (1 m height) but with other objects sharing the space the computer is a pentium 1 (~40 W power). it is intended to be on for long periods with the door closed. the closet stands in a shaded place but air temperature outside can get to 35 C + sometimes. i dont want to cut vent holes in the closet the monitor (15 crt) is off when the door is closed. though i may switch it off and close the door while it is still hot how to prevent overheating ? is a water tank thermostat set to 45 C in the air near the pc (with the 240 V to the pc going thru it) good enough thermal protection ? insects we have lots of ants. how to protect the pc from them ? will the hot air in the closet be enough to distract them ?

OHSHI- PC Problem

Howdy folks. Take a look at that. Two forum topics (by me) in a row. I must be insane! Anywhooo. I just installed The Orange Box on my Mom's Computer and stuff and all the games work fine and stuff... But my only problem is that when I play it for about 45 minutes my entire computer just restarts.... It kinda sucks... I mean.. I can only play like, two games of Team Fortress Two in that amount of time! It's crazy! I need to figure out how to make this totally not happen ever again.

Eee PC - Opinions, please.

I had a minute's play with an Eee PC today, and first impressions were good. I know that a local high school has invested in a bunch of them. #1 son has started making noises about "needing" a computer of his own. In a year of two, he may be right, so, at a price of around 150GBP / $300, it seems a reasonable target for him to save up for (and ask relatives for cash at birthday & Christmas). Bearing in mind that his school uses Windows, and so does the high school he will probably go to, is the Eee a sensible buy for a 11/12 year old? I use a Windows laptop, our desktop is Windows. We have a British Telecom wireless hub. I am ignorant of all aspects of Linux, so I also need to know if the documents he produces can be accessed through Windows software and vice versa?

Battlefield 2 pc problem

Battlefield 2 - Multiplayer Problem - After the map first loads, the "Select Checkpoint/Kit" menu pops up like normal, but I can not move the mouse cursor and the keyboard buttons do nothing in the game. Pressing Tabs-Lock makes the beep sound as if the Squad menu just popped up, but the screen stays the same (checkpoint/kit) and the mouse cursor stays in the middle of the screen. I can here the battle sounds in the background, and the checkpoint map changes flags as in real time play, but I can not start playing. This problem occurred after the game froze on 2 consecutive attempts, each freeze causing me to hard power-off the computer. After 3 attempts brought me the frozen cursor and keys, I reinstalled BF2 (just the original) and ran a virus scan. After the reinstall of the game, I tried once more to log on to Multiplayer, but it resulted in the same problem. The game has been working great for me for the past few months, and I was playing it already today.

PC half dead - not good

Machine will not POST - no beep, BIOS smart fan-control not engaging, PS2 keyboard has no power, monitor reads "no signal" Board does have power - things spin (like the CPU fan which shouldn't until it gets hot) Preceding clues(?) - I thought I'd developed tinnitus, but found it was the PSU (I think) making a high-pitched ringing noise, half the day unplugged and that seemed to go away. Display not engaging properly on start-up: If I waited until the machine got to Windows login and then switch the monitor on - no problem. Switching the monitor on before this point - black sort of standby mode. I think I might try the PSU first, then think about the mainboard. So far I've plugeed and re-plugged things, tried with 0,1 & 2 strips of RAM with no difference. Any suggestions welcome I spent a lot of time replacing 1 cap' in the PSU, then I replaced the PSU (logic being that if I've tampered with it an the thing still doesn't work I should replace it regardless) Then I bought a new board. I was a bloody-sod, CD/DVD still doesn't work... L

Looking for thoughts.

My PC wnt a bit wonky this morning.  Mouse pointer moved around just fine but the system wouldn't recognize any clicks. Well at first i could click on the web browser and open a new tab but that was it. I restarted the system and had the same problem. So i wasn't able to lick to log in. So i tried another mouse and got the same result. Then i tried both mice on different USB connection both on the front and rear of the system. No change. Out of frustration i slammed the mouse down on the keyboard tray a couple of time and then everything started working fine again. Any thoughts on what happened? I suspect it's an issue with the keyboard. Being a wireless keyboard that came with a wireless mouse i think the keyboard had something to do with it. I've had an occasion where the keys stopped working on the keyboard till i moved the receiver around a bit. oh well.

nes pc and mouse

Hey guys...i was just wondering two things. First, is it theoretically possible to build one of these nintendo pc's to be operated as a fully functional pc for gaming and internet use, with your tv as a monitor and to install jacks to be able to connect to a surround sound system? also, i am not too good with computers and all that jazz but ever consider a nes controller that would operate as a mouse? this, of course, would be assuming that you could use your pc in the way i mentioned above, if not it would be kind of pointless. i also thought it would be nifty if it could be a wireless deal...you know...just so you don't have to sit 3 feet away from your television...

turning a pc on via mobile phone

Would it possible to wire the speaker of a mobile phone to the on/off of a standard pc so you could turn it on with a simple phone call? Not exactly a burning question but the idea has been floating around in my head for a while now, but i'm no closer to investigating.. Being completely devoid of network attached storage, that would be the next best way to access my files or store stuff when not at home without leaving the pc on all the time.. when finished it can be turned off via VNC or logmein. I've tried all ways to get wake on lan working of course, but can't stop the fans from running even when in standby/hibernation, and lately i can't even get it to stay in that mode without booting straight back into xp.. cheers in advance! ade

N64 Controller to PC

Hey guys, I recently pulled out my N64 and played Mario Kart 64 for some old-time fun. It was a rush.Anyways, I saw a video on youtube of someone who hooked up their N64 controller to their PC, and all the buttons worked. Now I recently saw an instructable on something similar to this:https://www.instructables.com/id/SNES-to-Parallel-Port/But I'm not sure if that same method would work or not.I also found this: http://arcadecontrols.com/Mirrors/emulatronia/n64pad/index.htmWhich is pretty much what I'm looking for, but I want to see if there's another way that doesn't involve the creation of a circuit with IC Chips.Anyone know? THanks.

Honoring NES PC author Hatsuli

Eric's post telling us of ibler Hatsuli was recently bumped.  Hatsuli joined on the 12th of February, and posted his instructable on the same day.  I think as a community we should find some sort of way to honor him at this time every year.  It could be an honorary contest of sorts, a way to raise money for cancer research, or whatever.  Any and all ideas are welcome, but I think we should honor him in some way!  Thoughts?

Step 2 connecting to a pc / communication * how to program the controller, are there any SDK's for this? I can use any pointers for learning, cost effective  suggestions, inspiration from similar projects etc Thank you in advance

Custom built Mac PC for sale or trade -- SOLD

I AM OPEN TO OFFERS. This is a unique, one of a kind PC built inside of a macintosh Powermac 7200. It features: -Intel D945GTP Desktop LGA775 motherboard -Intel Pentium D 3.2GHz dual core processor -1GB of DDR2 ram -200GB SATA hard drive -CD/RW drive -Built in ethernet The computer needs a little work on the rear ports and power button, but it works flawlessly. It has the ability to control the speed of the CPU fan and the power supply fan via Speedfan Software. It has AVG 2011 installed It runs Windows XP with a genuine Powermac 7200 start up tone. It has 4 on-board USB ports and the ability to add 4 more. It runs rather cool and can makes little noise from the fans and the hard drive. This unique Mac is a must have for PC and Macintosh enthusiasts alike. I am looking to get $80 for it but I am open to any reasonable offers, i will also trade this computer for a netbook, it does not have to have a functional screen, the main electronics just have to work, the top half can be broken, and it needs a working battery and charger. There is no monitor, mouse or keyboard, just the computer. I will ship it free of charge anywhere within reason. **NOTICE** The computer has been sold locally, i may be able to build another with a different case design by request if anyone wants one.

Rotary (pot) to mouse emulation

I am trying to create an autocue controler. (I've built all the software in Javascript to run in browser windows) When you press a button in Firefox / Explorer, a circle with 2 arrows appears allowing you to scroll up and down. If you move the mouse, the speed of the scroll changes. I want  - if not too complex - emulate this behaviour externally. My idea is to have a rotary control replace the mouse mvement such that you turn it one way the screen scrolls up, and ditto in reverse. And the further you turn the wheel one way or the other, the faster / slower the scroll goes. I did think about using a PS2 mouse thinking it would be a simple case of replacing the sensor, and sending pulses to the chip to emulate the encoder output. But now I understand the LED in these sensors is pulsed, and that the encoder also generates a quadrature signal to the IC chip. Apart from which, those mouse / IC chips are now obsolete!! Anyone any ideas? ** In the days of serial on the old PC's like ZX80, you simply sent a pulse to emulate a mouse click: rapid fire was simply a matter of increasing mark/space timings

Control a circuit using a mac

Hey guys, Pretty much I was wondering is there any way I can make a simple circuit and use a mac to turn it on and off. I want to set up about a thousand different values (turn on after 1.2 secs, turn off after 0.5 secs, turn on after 1.45 secs, turn off after 0.3 secs.....etc) and be able to just let it run by itself, connected to the computer. Now I'm fairly handy with a soldering iron, it's the computer based stuff I suck at, so if anyone could help I'd appreciate it! Thanks :)
