I have to be honest i dont like the idea of instructables pro, like i under stand how money is nice and everything but for some people we cant exactly pay for things over the internet or want to pay for somthing that we used to be able to do for free. like looking at a fourum like come on i used to love reading things people had to say. but i just tryed to look at a forum and it said i have to pay to look at somthing that could possible be a small sentence about how stupid bannana bread is.i dont wanna keep this to long but in short all the pro is , is a easy way to make some cash and i cant beleive peple are paying for this it not only offers very very very little but you have to constantly pay for it. thats all i have to say but please please discuss this and tell me what you think and who knows someone might agree up at instructables and take it down -aceLED

I received a 3 month sessions of pro membership for instructables that I can keep or share. I was wonder what the benefits of using it was besides having the ability to send patches and view steps all on one page. I also want to know if there are any downsides to using it. Go a head and let me know if you would like to use the 3 month session because if I decide not to use it I will share it with some one else. Thanks

Ok, I got to thinking, the pro accounts seem to be moving along nicely, it would seem plenty of people are taking the plunge, with a tiny percentage of out raged users. On the 'sway over to pro' page where it lists prices, I suggest adding a series of testimonials, e.g. If someone was looking through one of my punk weapons, and hit the 'pro wall of denial' only to see my Testimonial, they might then think 'hey, maybe i should try it for a month'. Same principle, someone whom uses the forums alot, might enjoy a little testimonial from Kiteman, or Nachomahma. Not that we should play off are 'famousness' but if we get a wide range of testimonials, it might easily appeal to a wide range of people. - gmj

Why the change to Pro? Why are we required to pay for ideas and projects that other people thought of and put on here for free? Are the creators of all these projects getting paid? If not, why? After all wasn't this site started for people to post projects and plans for them to share with other people for FREE?

At 9 am CST today I paid for Pro Membership via Paypal. However when I log in and go to profile, it does not see that I am a Pro Member; therefore, I cannot download. I received an automated response to the e-mail to service but this did not answer questions. How long should it take before my account becomes a Pro Member where I can download. I want to to be patient but I also would like to get started on my project. Any advice or help would be appreciated. Gracias, Dr. Juan

Right, Can I just say that why should Eric have to reach into his own pocket if the site is getting too costly to run.You either get a pro account or you don't.What would you rather have, a slightly limited instuctables account or no instructables whatsoever. So please just stop bitching about pro accounts, protesting or whatever. Just try to remember that this all is a trial and it could all not go to plan.I myself will be buying an pro account depending on what it is like and what happens after the three months is up.Rant over, Peace out! P.S. Here's a picture of some cake I made to say sorry if this topic my upset you, ONE SLICE EACH ONLY =D

Well, I spent some time writing a long persuasive post on this topic, but it was eaten somewhere between edit and preview so this is the gist. 1 Pro accounts are deemed necessary but cause conflict in the community 2 'Ibles is alienating some of its membership that could be otherwise utilised. 3 'Ibles is following good logical marketing practice, but is conflicting with illogical human nature 4 Marketing Psychology is good stuff for a variety of reasons. 5 If a specialist doesn't fit the budget, there are many easy to read and excellently written books on the subject. 6 Marketing psychology is awesome for situations like this. Get marketing psychology. Hope this helps. So, imagine that, but with more examples and evidence and you being even more convinced than you are now that it is a good idea.

I just noticed that my pro membership is not showing. I have always had my pro membership roll over when I have gift vouchers. I have plenty and it seems it did not roll over. There is also a message that someone placed on my page that my pro membership is not showing. Thanks in advance for your help and all your hard work! sunshiine

I have a pro membership. Why am I continually badgered to become a pro member when I already am one and sometimes I have troubles downloading PDF'S. Why am I being made to jump thru so many hoops just to enjoy the benefits of pro membership every time I log in???

Fellow-pro-members, I have been seeing a lot of complaints about viruses / redirection etc. in the last couple of weeks. It may be my imagination, but most / all seem to be from non-pro members. Are pro members getting these problems (especially if you click through from the newsletter)? I haven't seen any of the problems (running FF in Wondows, with Norton installed and up-to-date).

Hi, I recently purchased a pro membership, however I'm having difficulty in finding my receipt of payment. Is there any place, or any way to find out which membership I purchased? I am sure it was for a year but I'm already not allowed to download unless I go Pro which I already did (I want to say about three months ago). Is this something to be addressed to AutoDesk? Thanks.

The idea of needing to pay to access some features of the site seems to conflict with the nature of the community on this site. After all we are all DIY'ers trying to make quality things for little money. Separating those who can afford to pay for an account from those who come to this site to learn how to be frugal ( because they don't have money to fritter away on things like pro accounts) will only devalue the community. I know the argument of "everything needs to make money some how" does not really stand here as separating the community will eventually lead to reduced following of the web site, decreasing the money available through advertising. Net effect of this is a poor online community that still is not making any real money. My thoughts are that the moderators etc should scrap this new system and protect the Instructables as we know and love it. anyone agree?

I miss seeing who is pro and who isn't. I think knowing how someone else is experiencing the site makes a difference in responding to them. And I am sometimes able to offer free pro memberships to people, but it's harder if I can't tell who already has one. Just my 2 cents worth.....
