Request: Fogscreen

I read an article about these screens that are made from dry fog that can be used in your home as a 100" projector screen, just thought that some one on instructables might fancy building a homebrew version and sharing the knowledge. www.fogscreen.com is the official site. I don't have a few grand to spare though!

As you may guessed I have a request. Could you please make Graphical search the default? I think that's what most people don't like about the new layout. In fact I think the new layout is perfect, but for the fact that the graphical search is not the default. Thanks for your time. >Axiys Grand Ultimaytum Of Mhyasma<

Feature Request

Lovin' the site, but would like to see one small feature. Could we add an RSS feed to the comments page under the You link? I'd like to keep track of what, if anything, people are saying about what I'm saying. It would make it much easier to do if we could get an rss feed for that page. Thanks!

Add Request

I do occasionally look at the adds, but I find it really annoying having to remember to hold CMD when I click on them so they open in a new tab. Could the instructables team please re-program the site so that it will open the adds and links in a new tab or window, just like facebook? Thanks, BB

Request for timer

I would like to make a timer circuit for one or two digicams. Something which would press the shutter button at a desired interval, like from 30 sec to several minutes, to make high resolution timelapses. (2 cameras for stereo, or visual - infrared) I know this should be easy, a simple circuit with relays, but having no knowledge of electronics it would help to have it pointed out step by step)

Requests: Please change the popup to login + custom download buttons

Well two requests: Instructables devs can you change the way the popup comes up that tells you to login? A lot of my people are complaining that they NEED to login to the website, but actually they don't. Apparently they don't see the X or something or it is repeatedly coming up that it is annoying and people don't want to browse instructables. So my suggestion is not to cover up the whole screen with the popup, but just use a small banner on the bottom, which is not obtrusive like the current one is. Another request is that I would like to see a button on top of a instructable (next to the PDF download or something) where I can link to website where I have my stuff hosted, which is required for my instructable. So people can easily find the download and don't confuse it with the PDF download.

Instructables for Developers - Request!!!

Hi there! I am here to request for a feature of instructables. I am instructabler since 2010 here. I want a support for developers like me such as API's and other stuff. One of my idea is to make an copy-paste code for displaying instructbles profile and other buttons just like for facebook they support developers. If you familiar with "Facebook for Developers" that would be nice! So in equivalent I hope someday this website will support the developers around the world and will called as "Instructables for Developers" this is awesome! If is it possible please let me know any opinions are welcome because this is only an idea for improvements of instructables. Thanks! Wareneutron

multiple requests to login

I am receiving login requests multiple times every time I am on the site. This has only happened in the last few days. Previously, once I logged on, I was on. Now, I logon. I go to any instructable, click on a picture to get a larger image, and get a login request. So I login again. Next time I want to see a larger image, I get another login request. Or if I want to post a question, or see answers to a question, or look at my own profile, etc., I get another request to logon. The whole time, the "keep me logged on" box is checked, but I am not staying logged on even for a few minutes. What's up?

Is there a place to request an Instructable?

Is there a section on Instructables where you can suggest projects for someone to make? Example, I would love to find an Instructable for a DIY wireless dog fence. (searched -no luck). I am sure there is someone out there who can make one of these. Or there are folks out there who have the smarts and would love to see what people would like to have.

Flag request: "other"

I'm sure this has been suggested elsewhere, but nothing came of it, either way, and it has come up again in a conversation with another member by PM. Currently, Instructables can be flagged for three reasons - "inappropriate", "incomplete" or "spam". Whilst they cover most eventualities, I would like to propose a fourth flag option: "other". Of course, "other" is rather vague, so its use would require details - clicking it would open a comment or message box to allow a brief description of the reason for the flag, whether it is the original source of a project that has been ripped off from elsewhere, or a concern regarding the safety or legality of a posting. I don't know coding, so I don't know if such a system is possible with this site. If it isn't, then can I suggest that a fourth flag option be added called "Legal issues", or some other catch-all phrase that covers issues of intellectual ownership and site liability.

HDMI converter request

So what do those of us with old surround sound receivers with no HDMI inputs that we either don't want to part with because in every other way they are just awesome pieces of equipment or we simply can't afford to replace them do? It seems that no one sells an affordable, quality HDMI to RCA converter that can easily go between modern components like Blu-ray players and older receivers. So what can we pirate one from and what would be the best way to do it? Ideally it would split out all the surround channels or convert to a single digital RCA cable. I'm more concerned about sound, because TVs wear out and get replaced faster than receivers, so odds are we have an HDMI ready TV. I don't object to video as part of the project, it just isn't necessary (for me).

Electic circuit request

I am looking for help in designing/building a specific circuit that will perform the folowing: I want to to be able to load a sound file from a flash dive into a device that will play it through an output that can be connected to an amplifier and played through a speaker. So the specifics that I'd like: 1. The device would have a usb receptical that would accept a flash drive loaded with a .wav file. Typical file would be about 30-60sec long. 2. The device would have a momentary contact button that would play the file on demand. While holding the button, the file would play. Releasing the button would reset the file back to the beginning so pushing the button again would replay the file from the beginning. 3. The device would have a 1/8" or 1/4" plug output that could be connected to an external amplifier to play the file over speakers. 4. Device would run off of 12v dc power I know this is simple but not sure the best and cheapest way to build. Wondering if a 555 timer or an Arduino would work for this. Any help greatly appreciated!

Can someone make an ible on how to pick a hat that looks good on you?

My new avatar notwithstanding, I can never pick out a hat in real life. Every hat I try on is either too big for my face, or makes my head look weird. I know that girls can look awesome in a tasteful hat, but there must be some trick I'm missing. Do you go according to face shape? Age? Size? Can someone make an ible on how to pick a hat (like a straw-cowboy-fedora type hat...not a SISSY hat) ? Please?

Feature Request: @user tag

For me instructables is great because of it's outstanding community. Still, I believe this could be an even better place if we worked closer together. Sure, this can't be forced, but it can be made easier: It would help greatly if a "@user" tag was introduced. It should do two things: Notify the user mentioned, both with an on-page notification (like a PM) as well as through email Produce a clickable link to the user's page The usage cases are plenty. It could be used if... an authors project is based on @user ideas/ project @user has improve upon one's work @user has similar project worth checking out a comment/ forum post is adressed to @user, even though it is not a direct response one knows @user is interested in a instructable/ forum post, but may have missed it Unlike PMs it's a quick and public method to reach out for people. I am very aware that even though this is a "small" idea it may take much effort to develop and integrate throughout the site. Yet I do believe it would be absolutely worth it, as it... motivates authors (it is the greatest feeling to know somebody values the project you've poured all of your heart into) keeps conversations going (I've seen many comments not being responded to just because they haven't used the reply button) brings people with similar ideas and interests together (isn't this what instructables is all about?) It could happen that this will be abused by some people, so "blocking" certain users (to not receive notifications) should be a mandatory function. What do you think about this?

Request: DIY LED Nightlight Outlet Cover

Hi all, I have been scouring the web and have yet to find what I am looking for. I have seen a couple of different LED lights embedded in outlet covers and switchplates, but I need to do-it-myself because whoever cut the outlet holes in my house clearly had the shakes, and I want to convert the larger size custom covers I need to have LED lights especially for the kitchen and the bathrooms. I also want to put them into covers that have unusual configurations, such as two outlets and a switch, etc. I have a few things I need. (1) it cannot prevent full use of the outlet (I don't have any to spare) (2) I need to be able to use amber lighting so as not to have the normal blue of standard white LED lighting wake me up, which should be easy enough. (3) I would really love to be able to add them to GFCI outlets, too, but my understanding of how those work is limited. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. I'm good with electronics right up until it involves building your own circuits, but my electrical skills pretty much top out at re-wiring a lamp, understanding how many amps it is safe to pull in a house circuit and how not to electrocute myself. I want to do this right, so it's stable long term and safe. Again, thanks for any help, folks. -Lois

Here's a first!

This is a first for me - I've done a requestible.I published braids with seven and eight strands of yarn, and then I got a request to publish a 16-strand version.I did it! Working out the moves in my head nearly plaited my brain, so I just sat down and tried it - it turned out to be a lot easier than I thought.I am now confident that I could create a braid with any multiple of 4 strands above 8.

Feaure Request - moving images

When dealing with images, I cannot do the "drag to reorder" stuff on a touch-sensitive device, such as my phone or tablet*. Since the vast majority of my time online is via one of these two devices, not being able to click & drag images around is a major PITA, having to start up the desk top computer just to move a thumbnail a few pixels... Bearing in mind that most UK internet browsing is done via touch-sensitive devices, and the UK is this site's second-biggest user-base, it would seem sensible to address this issue. *both running Android

"Wonder Wash" DIY Request

So I have been looking for a cheap way to quickly wash small loads of laundry and came across the "Wonder Wash" (http://www.laundry-alternative.com/washing.htm). The main issue I have with this thing is the $50 price tag. I know that it is a small amount to pay to reduce your water and electricity needs but times are tight. My baby seems to go through 5-6 burp rags a day and I don't like using the washing machine for such a small load every other day. Anyone have any insight on how I can build one of these on the cheep? Cheers Cody

Translated Instructable - feature request

Overnight, my instructable count went up by one. Since I haven't posted anything new, I realised that this means that one of my instructables has been translated into another language for one of the non-English versions of Instructables. It wasn't immediately obvious, though, which instructable or which language. Jayefuu pointed out the existence of a drop-down menu that had appeared, but that only takes me to the translated project, not to the the translated project on the other website. Please, can the links between the different language sites be made more explicit? For instance: A row of buttons across the bottom of the page to switch between language sites (even if they just take you to that site's front page) An option to include other language sites in searches An email from HQ when an instructable is translated, with a link to the translation on the other language site.

New K'nex ideas and a request.

'Sup people, K'nex.X here, I got something to ask you, does anyone has any ideas for a new K'nex gun? I've practically ran dry and I'd love to have something new to work on. Don't come showing me pictures of models, I'm talking about real innovation like bolt action, lever action and/or semi auto's with a potential range over 30 feet. Next, I got an idea. What if we stop focussing on making models, replicating them as best as we can with the limited forms of k'nex pieces? We could focus on real innovation, the world needs about a 100 more Oblivitus and Kinetic's. Just check it out. Even though most have given up hopes, there are still loads of ideas to improve, perform or make. Take a look at thedunkis' forum topics, Oblivitus' concepts I'ble and Kinetic's mechs. For example, I'm now working on a bullpup, bolt action, horizontal magazine gun. Concepts are far more challenging than replicas. Just try it out for yourself. Another thing, the veterans left. So stop making a 1001 forum topics about where everybody is, they have left. Mepain, DJRadio, Oodalumps, Zak, Shadowninja31, Coolbas, Killer-safecracker, IamCanadian, KILLERK. They all left. stop complaining, instead of whining, go out there and design something new! The red book of westmarch, Senior waffleman, Drrichtofen and all the awesome new(er) guys. You are the future of K'nex guns! Yours sincerely, Knex.X

Request: DIY Portable Microwave

I was looking around and was hoping to find somewhere a guide to make a portable microwave, I have looked around on the internet for hours trying to find a DIY one because I want to make it myself rather than buying one. What I am trying to do is find a way to make a microwave portable. I wouldn't be making the actual microwave though, I would just buy one that you guys would hopefully suggest for me to buy. The purpose of this is to have a microwave that I can put inside of a locker for cooking food in. I just need someone to guide me through because all I learned through my searching was that I possibly needed an inverter, due to it being battery powered (I assume.) Then again aren't there car batteries that can run on AC like a microwave, although I am not sure which is why I am here. Summary: What I am asking is someone to make a step by step tutorial or guide of some sort to making a microwave portable (not building the actual microwave though, just making one portable to be runnable by like a car battery)

feature request: tag cloud

Hi all, not sure if this is the right place to ask for this, but wouldn't a tag cloud or weighted category list (or whatever it's called) be a nice feature on Instructables as well? One could convert the already entered keywords into user generated tags and then allow reader to add new tags to entries etc. I think tag clouds are flexible than simple categories (although they don't replace them).
