Kiteman is actually Mike Rowe! All that talk about him being (censored) and living in (censored) and having (censored) is FALSE, as proved by this ad! It pops up all over the place. I mean, really, look at the pictures. The conclusion is a foregone one. It's inescapable. But they do look scarily alike...

Help with LEDs

Hi, I'm new to the whole electronics thing, and i decided to try and make a sign for my brother for christmas. I was planning to back light it with 4 rows of 3 leds in each row, each row being a different color. I was planning to power it with a plug in the wall power supply that outputs 9v DC 450 mA. Also i was planning to have a switch for each row, and a potentiometer to control all the leds. The leds have about a 2.8 forward voltage @ 20mA. I was wondering if it would be possible to power the leds with this power supply, and if so, what the circuit diagram would look like with all the resistors, leds, etc.. (whatever else i need). Thanks

how to detect sensor position with arduino uno

Hi Guys recently i started use arduino UNO and with simple programs to read from analogue pins wasn't hard. now i'm facing a challenge, as i have a sensor mat 16x16 (rows and columns) i want to read 4 rows and 4 columns i'm trying to use the analogue pins as input for rows and digital pins from (8 to 11) as output i want the program to detect the position of the sensing area such as (row1 colum 4, for example) and give me the number that measured over this area. my code is very bad but i'm trying, specially my background wasn't programming or science. any ideas will be great.

Dynamo powered TV

Hi All, Im not sure what to search for or where to begin with this idea and was wondering if anyone can help me. My wife is always adamant to lose weight and buys random exercise machines (bike, treadmill etc.) These last for about 2-3 weeks then she gets bored of them. She has asked for my help in trying to get her motivated so i have devised a plan. muhahaha She has said that her exercise will consist of her in front of the TV at night rowing away (she just got a new rowing machine again). so my plan is to snip the plug of the TV connect this to a 240 volt relay that i can connect to the arduino and at a set time the arduino will turn of the relay switch until extra power is brought in by the dynamo on the rowing machine. the relay will start at 8pm and turn off around 6am in the morning.   A bypass switch will be added to allow the relay to turn on for 30 mins as we have a small child and she doesn't want to sit rowing whilst watching TV trying to get him back to sleep whilst feeding him a bottle. My question is would this be possible and what stuff would be needed to make a dynamo on to the rowing machine? also can a arduino be programmed to do something with a small input of electric?  Also this idea has been agreed on by my wife.

MultiMeter Reading Wacked? My brain wacked?

Ok so I just bought a new meter and I decided to test it out on my new circuit, but I was much surprised! The circuit is identical to this one: https://www.instructables.com/file/FSKP1NOHS18BW4T/?size=MEDIUM except for instead of 4 leds on rows 1 & 2 it has 8 leds per row.  Since I didn't want to type it all up heres the video. So all help is appreciated! Thanks!

Pin it Button! Did you see it!

The Pin It Button is back!  You may not have noticed, but it is there. It is pretty simple to use. To see the button, hover over the image you want to pin.  Don't open the image.  You can pin the big images, and the images that are in rows of two.  Any more images in a row than that and it doesn't look like you can pin them. Click the Pin It button. This will open a new tab the same as the bookmark bar Pin It button works. Pin the image. Close the separate window. You are done! Please, PIN AWAY!

random led scrambler

I recently was asked a challenging question concerning a type of circuit design. My electronics knowledge is somewhat limited and was wondering if i could get some help on this project. The project is: How do you get one led to light up amongst a row of say ten or more leds by selecting from one switch from a row with the same number of switches. The system should be set up so every switch will have a randomly selected led circuit. In other words the leds are randomly scrambled for the switches. This is basically a type of led guessing game but also involves guessing witch switch will operate which led. Thanks!

Posted by eddicur 7 years ago

How do you type?

Well my computer teacher says always to keep your hands in the home row position(look at picture.) and not to do move your fingers around just to move them up and down to the according key. By the way the home row is.. a s d f g h j k l ; Now is this a better way to type or just to move your fingers around. another explanation: he says to keep your fingers on a s d f g h j k l ; and then curl them down or up to hit the key. Hopefully the pictures will clear it up.

Simple Light Switch Question

Hi there. Very simple question from an idiot. I'm making a mini puppet of robby the robot from forbidden planet. for the mouth i've a simple set of cheap battery powered leds. There are 20 leds and i've got them in 2 rows of 10. I want to be able to operate them in a really simple way so that the top row comes on or the bottom row or both on to simulate robby speaking. My plan is to split the set of lights into 2 sets of 10 and have each on a circuit where i was going to make a switch for each set that is simply something you press down. Then having the 2 switches next to one another so you can press 1 or the other or both at once simply with your thumb, and i'm thinking of simply using a coke tin aluminium to complete each circuit. I can imagine someone who actually knows what they are doing thinking, this guy knows nothing! and they'd be right! but any tips or alternative methods or even confirming this plan will work are much appreaciated, thankyou.

Led Clock Feasibility - my first arduino project

Hi guys and good morning all from a total newbie to this world. The aim of this post is to ask you guys if i'm going the right direction to master the knowledge to build my project. To cut a long story short, my plan is to build a clock mixing the old style design of reclaimed pallets with a touch of modernity using LEDs to mark hours , minutes and seconds. The aim is to keep all the lights ON once the given time has passed. To be clearer, if the minutes are "18" i would like all the previous leds (0 to 17) to be all on. I'm pretty sure that the knowledge to build this resides in mastering Charlieplexing and Shift Registering (please correct me if i'm wrong). So at this point in time, i know what i have to "study" to give life to my project the way it's designed in my mind. I've already seen some clocks working this way, hence i'm pretty sure it can be done (happy days!). Point is that i've only seen clocks where this design is achieved with only 1 row of leds. My aim is to swith on 4 rows at any Tn time. So, for the minutes, once it reaches 59, i should have 59 * 4 = 236 LEDs ON simultaneously (for the minutes only... plus N for the hours). Can anyone point me to the right knowledge to be mastered to achieve this? I'm assuming is a problem of sustainable voltage (resistors, power supplies etc etc) leds in paralel/serial; multiple shift registers and so on so forth... I'm attaching a small mock-up to be understandable on what i would like to achieve (it's based on the first 5 minutes of each hour). I've marked "Ok" the first row, meaning that since i've seen something similar, i'm confident in knowing what needs to be mastered to achieve that result. The "?" refers to what i haven't been able to understand if it's achievable or not (row 2, 3 and 4). Would it be advisable to build a Matrix for each of the 4 row (with N 8-bit microcontroller such as SN74HC595, for each row) , or can be achieved with a "simple" 4 X 60 matrix? Thanks a lot in advance to everyone "wasting" their time to give a helping hand! Seeya! Ivano

LED Lightbar DIY

Hi folks, I hope this topic is in the right place. I was going to try my hand at building my own LED light bar like the one in the picture below. It will be around 40" long with 2 rows LEDs and running off a 12v car battery. What W LEDs would you recommend? Also materials, what would you use for the housing, clear front etc? I was looking at 10w SMD Chips but I'm not sure if they are super bright but then again there are going to be a lot of them in the bar. They have a operating Voltage of 9-12v, if I have so many of them will i need some sort of amplifier half way down the rows? Any help with this project would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance. Chris.

A question about an instructable to do with clocks I saw a while back.

So if you go up to the search bar and type in the word 'clock', you get all sorts of results. Small clocks, big clocks, plastic clocks, metal clocks, Batman clocks, Skyrim clocks, everything under the sun. Bar one. The thing is, all these clocks are generic. They all are mostly the same. A standard circle with hands and the hands marching round the clock in circles. I'm not saying that this is bad, I'm just saying that seeing the same thing over and over and over gets very boring for me. So when I saw a clock that was unique and different, it was like a dream come true. However, if I try to look for that particular clock again, I can't seem to find it. The clock in question acts similar to the linear clock, but is still circular (hypocrite). Looks sort of like this:                  | ________\|/________ |________________|      |___________|         |________| The top row shows the seconds, the second row the minutes and the last the hours. Essentially, the hours and minutes and seconds all turn while the actual base stays still. The numbers are along the rows and as they turn, the arrow points to what the time is. If anyone can find this instructable, I will be grateful. Otherwise, I will be forced to do this project without the help of any sort of instruction.

Making Diy Ring Light. Help?

Ok at the moment i'm working on a Diy Ring Light.   I will try to be as detailed as possible.   The light source i'm using is from an old LED light box that has over 204 leds in a array  17x12 matrix  I am using a Old circle fan outer shell for the ring shape and i already made the outer casing. My problem is i am trying to wire these leds off of the matrix and in separate rows.  My plan is wire these leds in a circle and connect the ends to the LED light box controller.  Basically take the box led shape and make it into a circle.   At the moment the leds are attached to the board.  I have desoldered all of them almost and i have figured out the positive led and negative led.    As long as i wire the positive leds in a row and negative in its own row with paper clips and then connect it back up to the positive wire and negative wire on the controller i should have it working? Is there something else i need to do?   It will be powered by the wall because the controller has its own dc input and i have the correct power supply for it.       I will provide pictures if needed.   i hope this is enough info to help you guys help me.   Thanks.

Ideas on repurposing over-the-door metal shoe rack

Hoping some creative minds can help me figure out a way to reuse a metal over-the-door shoe rack - not the"pockets' but the old school inverted U shape for about 18 pairs. Sorry -for some reason the upload pic isn't working - but it's 6 "U" on each of 6 rows with two side bars holding them together and two hooks at the top. I took it apart so I have 6 U rows and the two sides. I haven't figured out anything creative enough to justify mucking around with it, other than drilling holes in a vertical board to push the shelf in horizontally, and hanging lightweight things from it. There are easier and better solutions than using this in that case. Any ideas? Thanks/.

Here is a picture of a gun I'm building right know it will be able to shoot 4 shots in a row every time you recock it. the sight is awesome I would post a picture of what I have know but my cameras memory card is missing. . ok this gun is better than my morrettie I think so that means it must be the most power full gun ever!!!!!! I'm made the revolver know it is awesome it has a clip in the front and can shoot 4-5 times in a row. and this one is vary power full too ,about the same. I also built a knife from the E.U.'s teem it looks almost the same as in a picture. the reason I'm building all thees things is because I am making kits hopefully I will have them ALL

Firefox won't work with pages on main Instructables page

I have Firefox 3.6 on WinXP. I have Javascript enabled but not Java. On the main Ible page are rows of Ibles. Each row is a category which shows 4 Ibls, followed by some page numbers, and a ">>" button for Next Page. Whenever I clikc a page number, or the >> Next Page button that row disappears. Sometimes the same Ibles appear in that row again even though multiple page number buttons are displayed. This function used to work, but stopped working about 2-4 weeks ago. Underwater Explosions

Let me start this question/thread by saying I live in the middle of the boondocks and have no worries of any legal repercussions for my actions. Regardless, I am lazy, and am looking for an easy way to make an underwater explosive for fishing purposes. If anyone could tell me how, it would be well appreciated. I just want to blow the fish out the water, then row around in my boat, and pick them up.

LED indicator for A/V selector

Hi! A while ago, i made an A/V selector, and it worked quite well. It had a small design issue, which is, having the ports at the front, where the switches are, and I want to upgrade it a little bit. The idea is, put on the front the switches with a LED on each input, and when I switch the selected input, the selected LED will also light. I've been looking around, and the A/V voltages are around 1 volt. The switch I have, it can handle 3 circuits at the same time (Video, Left and Right) but it has 3 rows as a conmutator or something. The thing is, i need your help in order to connect the LED. I've been thinking about using the unused row of the switch, but I don't know how, or, place a transistor when the Video input comes across the switch, but I don't know what kind of transistor will do. Thanks in advance I attach a diagram of what is now, with 5 inputs, showing only 2 of them, to have a brief idea

Chatroom abuse

The Chatroom can be easily abused. The 'Warning" system does not have any requirements, which means that anyone can warn someone for no particular reason. Each time a person is warned more than 4 times in a row, that person is muted for a specific amount of time. Each 4 more warnings is punished by 5 minutes of being muted. Meaning that if someone is warned 8 times, that person will be muted for 10 minutes. Some persons are abusing this system and warning people for no reason. Yesterday, I was warned 32 times. Mostly it wasLittlechef37Okoshima.Linuxh4xor (3 times, as part of the fun. Still, you jerk)The consequence of their joking, was that I was muted over 5 times.....almost 25 minutes (not in a row though)This kind of people simply ruin the experience.I know the chatroom has nothing to do with instructables, just meebo. But because of those jerks, the 32 warnings will now follow me forever (the chatroom tracks your IP adress) and if I am warned in the future, the punishes will be more severe. (Permanent banning from the chatroom is actually possible if a member is warned too much)

When loading pages or just reloading them it takes forever and a bit longer to finnish, that is if the loading actually finnishes. Everytime the site hangs at Pixel.quantserve.com which is getting a bit annoying after two days in a row. Also, when posting comments or such the bottom part where you upload images is messed up. The two lines reading Tip: Select multiple files using Ctrl (mac: Cmd) or Shift key. Is this uploader not working for you? Try the old uploader. Are priinted on top of each partially.

Personal electronics theft prevention

My daughter is going into high school and has had her scientific calculator stolen for three years in a row at school. These are pricey, running from $30-$40 each. Besides that, all the other things in her pencil bag, like compasses, triangles, pens, mechanical pencils. Frankly, I'm sick of my daughter not being prepared for class and spending money for the reprobates to just steal it.  Is there any way to tag her calculator economically to track it down?

How to make: LED circuit that can be switched on and off sequentially using an input button

Dear Instructables Community, I am trying to create the following LED circuit for a school project and would be grateful for any help. I would like to create a circuit containing a grid (see attached image) with 2 rows of LEDs in 3 columns. In this circuit, pressing an input button must move the "LIGHT ON" signal from 1 LED to the very next LED on the circuit in the following manner: Button click -> RowA column1 "ON" (Rest OFF)- > button click -> RowA column2 "ON" (Rest OFF) -> button click -> RowA column3 "ON" (Rest OFF)-> button click -> rowB column1 "ON" (Rest OFF) -> etc etc eventually leading to RowB Column3 "ON" (Rest OFF) -> button click -> rowA column1 "ON" (Rest OFF) -> etc etc 1) What would be the simplest circuit design for such a circuit? 2) How difficult would it be to add a second input that moves the "light on" down a column? (The circuit would then have 2 inputs: 1 button to move "light on" down a row, and the other input to move "light on" down a column. Looking forward to your advice! Thank you :-)
