Smash labs

I'm watching smash labs andbheres what I have to say: How do they get enough money for all that they use? They smashed dozens of cars, completely covered a trailer home in carbon fiber, and all that stuff?!? Plus I don't like the girl she talks to people like they're idiots.

I can't find this ible!

First of all, I wasn't sure where to post this, so I posted it here. Anyways... I'm making an ible (muhahahahaaaaa!) and I need to find something that I saw a while ago... It's a giant Rube Goldberg machine that in the end smashes a custard egg. I think that this won a contest, so why can't I find it??? If you made this or know where it is, tell me pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

Chuck Messer of Tackle Design and The Open Prosthetics Project on Smash Lab

I finally got a chance to watch the sneak preview of Discovery's new Smash Lab* last night, and imagine my surprise to see someone I know hosting! Chuck Messer, one of the four Smash Lab hosts, is a partner at Tackle Design the people behind the The Open Prosthetics Project, which also has an Open Prosthetics group on Instructables. Tackle Design and my own Squid Labs shared many similarities, so Chuck and I would share stories about how we each ran the companies; he even managed to visit Squid Labs when we were still located in Emeryville (pre-control tower). It's great to see good people getting wider recognition, and I wish Chuck and Smash Lab success!disclosure - Discovery is an advertiser on Instructables, and has been advertising for Smash Lab. This is not part of their advertising.

I destroyed my ipod for FUN! (Video included)

Well, I finally got around to it, the ipod was destroyed based off of suggestions from this forum: https://www.instructables.com/community/Im-going-to-destroy-my-ipod-touch-how-should-I-d/ Sorry for the bad quality, I couldn't use my moms video camera.  I still am going to stick it in the microwave, in a fire, in acid, then sell on ebay :D

I'm going to destroy my ipod touch, how should I do it?

Okay, so I got an ipod touch from my friend for thirty bucks, 3rd gen, with a broken touchscreen.  About two weeks later, (I'm not sure how exactly) the logic board got fried and now all it does is rapidly overheat.  So, the screen still looks fine.  I don't know exactly how many votes  I'm going to get, but I would sure like to have some suggestions, any input would be great.  I will post pictures of the un-damaged ipod when I get ahold of my mom's camera. I AM DONE!!! https://www.instructables.com/community/I-destroyed-my-ipod/

Glassphemy lets you recycle and have fun smashing bottles at the same time

Glassphemy is a large clear box made by Macro Sea where people can smash their bottles for recycling. Thanks to some bullet-proof Lexan panels, others can watch the action from right behind the smash zone. It's a great way to get rid of some stress and break up bottles for reuse. Bug? Instructable losing views.

One of my instructables, decided to lose 100 views or so on it's own on both the 'ible stat and my published page, for no apparent reason.  I only noticed as gmjhowe and I are in a views race so I've been paying particular attention to them but it's definitely and odd problem.

Gamecube Controller for Wii

With the Wii U coming out without any nintendo gamecube controller ports, I was wondering if it were possible to still somehow mod a gamecube controller so that it could work on a Wii U.  Since classic controllers that plug into a Wii Remote will work on a Wii U, i was curious to know whether it is possible for a gamecube controller to be modded so that it is recognized as a Classic controller.  Somehow connecting a gamecube controller to a Wii remote, since a classic controller and a gamecube controller have pretty much the same buttons.  If this is possible how would it be done?

Need Help! smashed mobile phone, can I retrieve data?

My wife's mobile phone was run over by a car. It still works, but the screen is cracked. Verizon says they cannot retrieve the information on the phone without the screen working. Anyone know a way around this? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

What should I do with my smashed-up bike?

I recently got hit by a car that decided not to stop at a stop sign, and as a result, I've got this bent up, broken old bicycle taking up space. It seems like a treasure trove of salvage, but I can't think where to get started and where to go from there.

Cosplaying next August, any one else?

Hey every one, huge making project coming up for me (in terms of time, not size) because I'm going to SMASH! Cosplay Convention, Sydney, Australia in August 2010. I'm going with a group of friends from my school as Vocaloid characters and I get to be Kaito! Would any one else in Australia be going? Any way, it should be awesome and I'm excited like hell even though it's 9 months away. I'll keep every one posted on how the out fit's going, I'm going to see if I can get the wig off eBay next week. Then we're all going to Spotlight (fabric store) a little after christmas to get a tonne of the same fabric, but different colors for each character. Then I'm doing the scarf, then the pants, then the undergarments and then the coat. Any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated, I'm not amazing at sewing but it should turn out alright, I'll probably start the coat about 6 months from now because I don't want to grow out of it before the convention! By the way, any tips on dying my hair / getting a wig of bright blue? And also, dying my eye brows? (God, this'll look weird at school...) Update #1        18/10/2009 More pictures. I've added some drawn pictures (mine) of my design, you can see the front and back here. First picture: Another cosplaying Vocaloid group, but no Gakupo or Megurine Luka. I'll be the one at the back left. Second picture: SMASH! convention logo.

Smash atoms with Lego!

... or at least detect the debris of smashed particles with Lego: The LHC scientists do not yet have enough data to claim a discovery. But in the meantime, at home in Copenhagen, one physicist Sascha Mehlhase from the Niels Bohr Institute has made a part of the collider, the Atlas detector, out of LEGO toy bricks. »It took me about 48 hours to build the 3D model on my laptop and another 33 hours to actually put together all the pieces, this whole process spread out over several weeks,« explains Sascha. The model is made of 9,500 lego bricks and is about 1:50 in scale. There is no construction manual yet, but there will soon be one, he says on his website. The model is very intricate, even showing the innermost pixel detector. University Post article. Gallery of images.

Cleaning Glass Cullet: getting the labels off already smashed bottles

Short Ver:  I'm looking for a way to get the paper, foil, glue, and plastic labels off the bits of glass that have been smashed at the recycling center. Long Story:  There are several good uses for recycling glass cullet, the glass is plentiful at the local recycling center, they get very little for it because there isn't a re-user within efficient shipping range.  I was looking into buying recycled glass to use in a project, but shipping to get it delivered is outrageous $.  I want to start off with glass as the aggregate in concrete countertops.  That's a lot of glass - a couple hundred pounds per countertop.  Yes, they're very heavy.  I've internet searched to my bandwidth limit.  No-one nearby does the glass cullett thing. So, I went to the local recycling center and picked up a couple of 5 gallon buckets of smashed glass.  Really great.  Now, how do I get all the labels off?  Thanks, Ruby

do you log in as amninistrator ?

I am linux (arch linux) user so the question is aimed mostly at linux users. but i'd like to see what windows and other os users think toowe all need sometimes to log in to the computer as administrator (called root in linux) to do maintenance and other tasksin modern os we have some options. we can log in to the entire desktop or console as administrator and work freely. or we can run the single apps we need with 'run as administrator' from our user desktop. maybe we work all the time as administrators (even to surf the net) and then there is no question at allin the world of linux many users dont recommend logging it to the desktop as administrator. i dont understand why. i think based on the following assumptionsi am less likely to smash something when i see it. so i prefer to do stuff in the desktop and not in the consoleif i smash the os i can just format and install it again quickly. if i smash any of my files in home (home is like my documents in windows) i can never recover it again. and i have permission to smash my files when i am normal user tooi trust my applications to not format my drive on their own decisioni log in as administrator to the desktop when i need to manage and as user in other timeswhat way of getting administrator access you use ? why ?

September was our best month yet

We've been growing pretty consistently since the site launched in 2005, but September was notable in that we smashed a number of our records.  We had the greatest number of people come to the site (5.6 M), the greatest number of people return (2.9 M), the greatest number of new pro memberships, and our first and second highest traffic days where over a quarter of a million people visited Instructables in a single day.  We didn't break any records for new Instructables (the last month of the Craftsman contest from last year still holds that one), but September wasn't too far behind.  And all this in a month with only 30 days!October is my favorite month.  Here's to it bringing in some amazing costumes and smashing even more records.

How to Unlock All Super Smash Bros. Brawls Characters Within Two Hours EASY!!!

WARNING!!! IF YOU READ ANY FURTHER THE FUN OF THE GAME MAY BE RUINED OR MAY BECOME MORE FUN DEPENDING ON YOUR GAMER ATTITUDE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY OF THE CONSEQUENCES BECAUSE AFTER YOU READ THIS YOU MAY BE TEMPTED TO DO THIS!!!!! Use the following trick to unlock all characters in under two hours. Enter VS. mode, and select Special Match mode. Set it to Stamina and Flower modes. At the character selection screen, give the CPU 1 health and your character anything over 1 health. Also, make sure that it is on 1 Life Stock mode. Set the map to Shadow Mosses Island, at least until Snake appears and you defeat him. Keep playing this way for approximately two hours and you have around 500 VS. mode games played. By then, you should have unlocked all characters. Note: Make sure you are using a character you are good with because after a certain number of rounds, you will unlock each character and have to face them in a fight. It is 1 vs. 1 -- so it is recommended that you use a character like Ike, who hits very hard. However, do not worry if you lose; after one more VS. mode round, you will get to try again.

iPod touch 4g (badly damaged) screen repair

Ok, I recently bought an iPod touch 4g and really love it. Now my brother really wants one but doesn't have enough money to get one. Sooooo, yesterday he found one laying, screen smashed, 2 inches underwater in a stream. He begged me to charge it so finally I let him use my old charger. We plugged it in and I almost screamed when it actually started charging. Naturally my brother freaked out but when we tried to unlock it, it turned out the screen was too shattered to completely slide the unlock slider. My brother has $14:00. So now I wanna know if I can fix the screen enough to actually use the iPod. Plz help? Sorry I can't include a pic of the iPod right now.

Plastic Cases

I wanted to know what the best way to open a screw-less plastic case is. I am trying to open an ac-dc wall adapter for a project. The thing seems to be glued firmly shut. The last time I tried this with a different adapter I had to take a 20 pound weight and smash it (mostly out of frustration), which did not end well for the case or the parts inside. Both need to be intact.

Robot that rebuilds itself after kicked apart

As this video of a modular robot re-assembling itself after being kicked apart by its creators at the University of Pennsylvania shows, the day is soon approaching when even smashing apart our rebellious robot slaves with hammers and axes will not prevent each individually severed body part from crawling towards you across the room, a murderous and autonomous agent of servo-controlled musculature.

I broke apart my Tv set and literally smashed the screen with an axe.  Why?  Because there was nothing good on.  But anywho.....I heard there is lead and other bad stuff in the glass so i am a little worried that i breathed some of that in.   Also, i love the look of the glass and would love to use it in some art projects.  Is it safe to work with?   Thank u.

Soundproof Theater

After playing Super Smash Brothers Brawl at a party in a sound proof room on a projection screen, I've been trying to convince my parents to do the same to one of our unused rooms. Build a "teenage hangout". It will be very hard to convince them to do this, the lower the cost, the better. Is there any cheap tricks do doing this (and still look nice)? Memory foam on the walls? Obviously the screen itself will take the most convincing, but if that fails I'll use our 60in TV (three years of begging at it's finest :D ). I might even make it into an Instructable.

School/Work fun?

Have there ever been a moment for you when oh so boring work/school is actually fun? I have one. This is the only one there is from me. OK, so our school is going to a museum. I came across a very cool shop that sells weapons. I am not only allowed to buy one, my school's best teacher ever Mr.Andy actually bought it for me. ( quite expensive, $75 ). In case you are wondering, the weapon is an ancient native Australian club. It's very strong. I kept smashing stuff with it and it hardly even dent. So, that's my story. What's yours?

Jig-A-Patch Spray Spackle Review

The makers of Jig-A-Patch sprayable spackling drywall filler sent us a can of their product, and asked someone from Instructables to review it. Over the weekend, I smashed a wall carrying something up the stairs, and had the opportunity to try it out. The packaging is pretty cool, but the spackle itself is too liquid, and flows too easily. After spraying on enough to fill the hole, smoothing it flat, and removing excess, it still tended to flow out of the gash leaving a dimple. After letting it dry, I had to put on another coat of regular spackle, which worked perfectly.I'll stick with regular spackle for now.

British Land Speed Recod Was a Breeze, Thrashes US Record.

On the morning of March 26th, on the dry Lake Ivanpah, The Ecotricity Greenbird driven by British engineer, Richard Jenkins smashed the world land speed record for wind powered vehicles. The Greenbird clocked 126.1 mph (202.9 km/h) , eclipsing the old, American held, record of 116 mph , set by Bob Schumacher in the Iron Duck in March 1999 at the same location. The fully-composite craft (the only metal is in some of the bearings) used a solid wing to reach speeds up to five times that of the actual wind. The wing also provides unwanted lift, so it uses the same downthrust technology as F1 cars - at speed, the 600kg car presses down on the salt-flats with a force of almost 10,000N.Greenbird website.

My Laser Sailboat!

Well, as not very many of you, my family owns a sailboat - a one man racing sailboat called a Laser. I just thought I'd show it to you guys. Its a blast to ride, you can go very fast, all at no cost to the environment! Hope you enjoy it. IaC 1: Rocking it pretty fast. The boom smashing through the water is slowing me down a bit though. 2: I got caught in irons on a bad tack here, the wind was really going too. 3: Dry roll time! When the boat flips, you can hop over the side and stand on the daggarboard to right it. f you do it right, you wont even get wet. 4: Cruising on a broad reach. Good times!

Build me - Nintendo Game Cube controller that outputs midi at the same time

I need this for an art project. I want a Nintendo GC controller that can simultaneously output regular game control, but also have the buttons output a midi signal. The objective being that I want to capture game input and have it controlling synths, effects, etc.  But I can;t figure out the hardware component of a controller that can do both things at the same time. I would pay and credit someone who could help me do an art installation with this. Budget is small, but I'd be happy to communicate further.  The ultimate result would be would be playing a game (like Smash) on the Nintendo, and at the same time hearing synth output driven by the midi output reflecting the buttons pushed on the game controller Thanks for any help or direction or even ideas on this. x

Help identifying component on HTC Mozart

Hi all! Recently my girlfriend dropped her HTC Mozart and it landed on the edge with the power/sleep button. After disassembly, the switch/button has physically been smashed off from the fall. I've been repairing devices such as the mozart for years, and my soldering skills are very good but I have just one issue. I could easily solder a new button/switch onto the mainboard, but I don't know what to replace it with? I've tried searching for HTC component lists and everything to no avail. I've attached two pictures. One is of the damaged switch/button and the other is one of the other switches (For the volume) which are the same switches/buttons that I need to replace the damaged one. How can I identify it and replace it? Thanks!

Chinese Fur Farms

My Friend sent me this shocking video in an email, and made me join a petition to stop it. this is to discuss it, and if you want to stop it, please leave a comment. below is the video link http://www.peta.org/feat/ChineseFurFarms/index.asp WARNING. this is grosser and more wrong than anything you have ever seen. I strongly reccomend that you don't watch it, but just read. if you chose not to watch it, then the video shows chinese people grabbing pups, smashing them on the ground so they won't have the strength to run, then cutting the skin around their ankles, then peeling it off over the poor things head. the only thing is, the animal isn't even unconsious, and then they are chucked onto a rotting pile while they wait in excruciating pain to die. you can even see their hearts beating. if you want to stop this shXt, then please leave a comment saying so.

Bullet proof bra!

A US woman had a lucky escape when a burglar's bullet bounced off the metal underwire in her bra.Police in the city of Detroit said one of three intruders fired a shot when the woman looked out of her window and saw them raiding the house next door. The bullet smashed the window and hit her, but instead of causing serious injury - or worse - it was deflected off the wiring in her bra.The unnamed 57-year-old woman was taken to hospital and released the same day."It did slow the bullet down," said a police spokesman. "She sustained injuries but they're not life-threatening."Teenage gangThe woman, who lives on the west side of Detroit, had seen the youths breaking into the house next door while her neighbour was away.Police believe one of the gang saw her looking out of the window and fired at her.The suspects then drove away after the shooting.Local police Sgt Eren Stephens Bell told the Detroit News: "We need to get some bulletproof vests made from that. It is some strong wire." BBC Story

Ever saved a guys life??

Well have you? I did write a big long thing about the four times I have, but me computer crashed so I can't be arsed to type it out again. Anyway the other day at work, I'm a bin man(garbage man)by the way, me and another crewmen were working on the back of the dust cart when my bin came back down so I turned to put it back on the curb, as I did my mate still had his back to the traffic, I saw a big nasty van screeching towards us, so I grabbed him by his neck/face and dived on the grass verge, narrowly missing getting squashed to death by two pieces of machinery, which smashed together quite horrifically. Theirs no doubt that if I was stood were I was I wouldn't be typing this now. Anyone else had something like this? I had a load of pyro stories but as I said I can't be arsed to type um out again.

How do I get started?

I've been looking around on here, and all i can find is Arduino stuff and stuff I don't have the money for. I'm a teenage American, I can't solder, and i don't have much wood, aluminium, or other construction supplies around to make things with, nor do i have construction skills or tools. I'm almost always without money, and I don't have a 3-Dimensional Printer / CNC machine / Hobby Club / TechShop / New-Wave Technology That's Required For This 'ible / Computer Program That Costs Lots Of Money/ Arduino or equivalent / Scrap Materials. Pretty much the only thing i could do decently is QBasic, which is hard to find inspiration for, and smashing things with a hammer. Now that I think about it, it's hard to find inspiration or a need for anything. All things considered, how do I get started making Instructables on this site, and are there any good beginner projects that use ordinary household materials or very simple beginner programming languages?

Well guys I finally ran out of luck

On my way to work today I came off my bike at somewhere around 20-25mph, on a long sweeping corner I was turning with a steady lean and just lost all grip, both tyres slid, my left elbow hit the ground, shredded most of the skin on it and I actually brunt a hole in the jumper I was wearing with friction, I flipped over and smashed my wrist in to the ground so hard that that doctor wasn't sure if it was a sprain or break due to swelling, at some point my left hip hit the tarmac and they Xrayed that aswell in case I had chipped it, there's a nice swelling forming there... I also scuppered both my knees, the bad one is now just popping out from under me at any oppurtunity while the other can barely be moved. I've also just noticed that theres a bit of wood or stick stuff in my arm. This means that I can't go cycling for two weeks by docs. rules, can't play guitar hero, can't lift anything, might not even be able to drive, which would suck nuts as I just started formal lessons, finally afford them and I'm put outta work for a week and can't use my time to do the stuff I want/need to do. On the upside I can get to the hardware store and get my pulse jet parts and be doing something with my time, but I wont be able to build both because I've to save extra wages for next month as I wont get my days off back. The bike stood up to the crash much better than me, scraped paint on handlebar bell and I somehow knocked the reflectors of one of the pedals, I'm guessing thats the big gash on my shin explained... It's wierd I've been hit by trucks and got up straightened the handlebars, cycled off happy enough, I had the same type of crash except the front wheel fell down a curb I clipped a car and hit a wall with enough force to damage it and was fine apart from minor bruises, this simple crash screwed me completely, I fell perfectly and rolled well after flipping and smashing my right wrist, the bike somehow got a good distance away from the crash, as did I... Also three instructables I was planning will have to wait for at least a week, depending on what tools I can manage by then, it's a shame I just made three great projects and I have to wait until I'm better to finish them and publish... it also took me about 25minutes to write this...

Hydrophobic music, dubstep windchimes, Smash Smash Revolution and etc @ Knox Makers Build Night w/ MaKey MaKey!

Wow, what a month at Knox Makers! We were absolutely invaded by MaKey MaKeys at our hackerspace all throughout January. To start us off, we released a freebie project a little early to help out members and guests get some ideas, to drum up local support for our events, and to offer a fun + easy starter project for the other spaces participating: Oversized Music Chest This ended up getting featured in Electronics! It leaves a lot of room to add extra components and tote the MaKey MaKey around, and we turned ours into a musical advertisement for our first Build Night, a mystery hack night about music. Mystery Hack Night: Music! What a blast! Talk about a weird time.. One family brought a theremin and a circuit bending kit for kids; another group brought an amp and speakers, a suitcase of effect pedals and circuit bent instruments, and a 4 channel mixer; we had a random component table for open hacking; an acoustic and broken ukulele was converted into an electronic instrument; we had painters painting music instrument for the MaKey MaKey with conductive paint; there was a table with our hydrophobic drum pad, bananas, an eggplant, flowers, and a grappling hook all controlling a set of browser based drums through the MaKey MaKey; we had members hooking up tactile buttons and levers to MaKey MaKeys; and we closed with the weirdest jam session this side of Alpha Centauri with all the things playing all the sounds at the same time. Mystery Hack Night: Video Game Controllers! This was a fun night, and we had a few new people show up. We tinkered with a platformer adventure game called Fancy Pants Adventure, where we assigned each person one button. At one point, the whole table was controlling the game's protagonist. Somehow, we made it pretty far into the game, considering. A few people commented that this type of exercise seemed like a really useful team building exercise, so we might look at creating some tutorials with this in mind. We also had individuals and small groups testing out their own inventions and games, again revisiting concepts like conductive ink or simple conductive objects. A two person team tinkered around with some simple fighting games that only use one button for each player, there were people playing Tetris and other games with their inventions, and we again offered a random hack table with an assortment of items and components to rummage through. MaKey MaKey Build Night I: When MaKeys Attack.. We had a nice turnout for this event. This was an introduction to the basic concept behind MaKey MaKey, how to remap the beta v1.2 boards using the web remapper, different applications that make a MaKey MaKey naturally awesome to use, and a few sample projects. We opened up the floor to open hacking, and that day our Adafruit group buy had just come in. We were able to add to the random hack table some awesome components, such as: male/male and female/female jumper wires, various diffused LEDs, slow and fast cycling LEDs, conductive thread, flat LED panels, sewable LEDs, tactile buttons, and other items. We wrapped up and one of our newest members stayed late to craft a thin copper wire into a flat copper instrument using a mallet. He ended up using a breadboard with the MaKey MaKey and Wolfram software to write his own music program. As with our other Build Night events this month, we also had people working on side projects in the background which added to the creative energy of the room. For this event, one of our members tested out a Gocupi that managed to draw Rear Admiral Grace Hopper and Albert Einstein on the whiteboard in dry erase marker using continuous lines. MaKey MaKey Build Night II: Big Projects! We had a decent turnout for this event, but mostly the attendees were there for their own big projects unrelated to MaKey MaKey. We got a few MaKey MaKey projects in around good company, though. We had members working on a large geodesic Airolite boat, someone showed up to work on their 3D printer and print out their first scale model of a scanned person, our Facilities Director was able to get some critical inventory done, a couple members mounted new shelves that had been donated that day, and one member's daughter wanted to play around with hydrophobics. We also were able to get electronic musical wind chimes made that work very nicely with the MaKey MaKey, and the same member who tinkered with Wolfram software at the prior event made more progress on some of his own MaKey MaKey ideas. MaKey MaKey Build Night III: Advanced Reprogramming! This was one of the build nights I was most excited about, and we had a nice turnout. We walked members through reprogramming the older MaKey MaKeys using the MaKey MaKey sketch for Arduino IDE. We bested Windows and its infernal resistance to unsigned 3rd party drivers, and we advanced onward. We looked at basic reprogramming of the settings.h key bindings, and we also looked at other Arduino programming such as delay, Keyboard.print, Keyboard.press, Keyboard.release, and some other concepts. A father team duo that are also involved in a local high school robotics club showed up and schooled us a little on Arduino with some tricks they had up their sleeves, another father son duo showed up to experience the MaKey MaKey for the first time together and it seemed to blow their minds, and we talked about the new web remapping tool for the beta v1.2 boards. Mad Science Bingo For one of our educational outreach events, we attended hijacked bingo night at a local senior citizen community center. We let everyone have their bingo fun without interruption, but as bingo concluded we invaded with a MaKey MaKey, our hydrophobic drum pad, fruits and veggies, and some flowers. The senior citizens loved it and have invited us back. At one point, we had three participants record themselves singing into a Scratch program that we mapped to the flowers. The room erupted with laughter when the community center manager went to touch the flowers and they sang at her in her patrons' voices. She even lent her voice to be recorded, which sent the room into mad howls. We also made a chain of about dozen people between ground and the triggers. We didn't really invent anything unique here, but it was a fun bonus event for the community center patrons. We ended up tinkering around a little with hydrophobics and electronics. So far after all our events, we ended up with a few more Build Night projects: Hydrophobic Drum Pad (featured in Science and then Homepaged!) annoy friends with this party game: Wonky Pong Smash Smash Revolution ... black acrylic, conductive paint, and conductive thread Electronic Windchimes sewable Cardboard Feet DDR (featured in Video Games!) We've also set out our MaKey MaKey kits for space use now that our January Build Nights are over with. We have a few members with projects they are still working on at the space, a few projects that are still being documented to upload to Instructables, and a few people batting around their own ideas. If we come up with anything else, we'll be sure and update. A couple "lessons learned" here: Random hack tables are awesome. But.. if they are too chaotic and without the right presentation, these can be intimidating to beginners that may want more direction. Multiple Build Nights rule! But.. it is probably best not to hijack every Saturday of a shared workspace like a hackerspace. This could have been orchestrated a little better (my fault). Overall, this was a blast to participate in. Thanks to Joylabz and Instructables! PS.. with two features and one homepage, that gave us 1 and a half years of Pro. One got used, but we're giving away the remaining year of Pro and 3 months of Pro. The bounty: quick connect projects for MaKey MaKey. Ends 3/1 EST. You know what to do..

Coconuts

I recently got the urge to get a coconut from the store and so I got one. I got one with the plastic on it and made sure that I heard the water sloshing around it in. Using one of the techniques I pulled out of here I tried to open the coconut with out using the stove method. Well After several tapping in a circle sessions on the top part of the coconut, it still wouldn't crack open the top. I eventually gave up. So I picked one of the eye holes and jammed in to one of the eye holes using the blunt end of my butter knife. I managed to make an access point and the air rushed out.  Something seemed odd and when I went to taste a bit of the water from inside, it tasted fermented or sour, like a off putting lychee. Do you think that this coconut is rancid? I cracked the rest of the coconut with a hammer from the garage or basically smashed it open. Washed the coconut and tried the meat. Still the fermented taste. It looked pretty OK but there was a slight off green on the edge of the meat where it connects to the shell. Now I have the rest of it sitting in the fridge wondering what to do next. So what do you think? The last time I had a fresh coconut was when I was in late grade school. I remember it tasting plain essence of coconut and a bit sweet both the meat and the water.
