Solid fuel

Hello. I am new to this site. I've always had an interest in Model Rocketry and have built a lot of small scale rockets and launched them with store bought engines over the years. I've always wanted to build larger scale rockets and learn how to make my own solid propellant to fuel them but never knew how to get started. Any advice?

CAD/CAM SOFTWARE?

Hello, i am T.Y. Mech Engg. student. I want to know how software's like PRO/E are made. I mean how do they create the graphics (links of free download available graphics library's would be appreciated). Also how do they connect that(graphics) with their kernel? I know c++ already, which else languages or concepts do i need to know to create such a software? Also i would like to know how FEA is integrated in these software's. Expecting detailed reply's from all the experienced people who have worked on PARASOLID or Granite (PTC) or any other CAD/CAM software!

Semi-Solid Material? Answered

I was hoping anyone knew of or had a good suggestion for a material that fits my description. Either a rubber- like material that was softer (more malleable) than rubber, but tougher to prevent tearing or a putty-like material that would change to a firm solid when heat or a current was applied. I need something that can be molded to a specific shape and then hardened to hold that shape, but can later be returned to the non-molded shape.

Will a SSR work with a PWM signal?

Hey guys gotta quick question: I need to be able to cut a PWM signal from a motor for a project. I'm currently using mechanical relays but I'm curious, will a solid state relay work? I know there are easier ways to do this but for right now I'm on a clock and I just want to  know whether a SSR will work for cutting a PWM signal.  Thanks guys!

Metal Gear Solid Guns

I'm also looking for guns from one of the greatest games (at least to me), Metal Gear Solid. My top 5 requests are: 1. The SOCOM 2. The USP 3. The FAMAS 4. The Mauser C96 (The gun Eva uses in Snake Eater) 5. P90 (The gun Solidus Snake uses in Sons Of Liberty) Of course, all other guns from Metal Gear will also be appreciated as well, so if anybody who knows where I can find the instructable for any of these, or if anyone knows how to make it themselves (or is up to the challenge of trying to make them), please reply and tell me where to go (or what it will be called, if you need time to make it and put it up). I believe that it is possible to make at least 2 or 3 of these guns. Thanks to everyone that joins in the cause of making these guns, or at least telling me where to find the instructables for them, and happy building.

best schematic for a solid state tesla coil? Answered

Can anybody please help me with a sstc schematic? I'm thinking of building a sstc for an exhibition in my school and so i might need to run it for quiet a long time(like for a day with 5min intervals), and so it shouldn't overheat and die. Though I've found some designs especially the steve ward's sstc schematic, the problem is I couldn't get the ucc37322 & ucc37321 gate driver ICs, a suitable and more available substitute would be fine(I live in India). And which mosfet should i use for this purpose, i would be running it at 220v straight from the mains(in a H-bridge confg). And is the following audio modulator going to work with this?

Solid State Sensors? (Very Edited)

What properties of an environment can be measured with solid state sensors? Specifically, I am thinking of a project requiring a suite of sensors-on-chips that can measure their immediate (dry) environment and pass the data to a control unit.So far, I know of temperature, magnetism, radiation, acceleration and light (a camera chip). Are there any other (reasonably priced) solid state sensors, and where could I find them (either new, or reclaimed from something else)Edited:OK, so I thought I could be vague about my questions and then surprise everybody with a working satellite.Turns out I'm not so clever as I thought.I'm trying to recreate Sputnik on a tiny budget. Something that could be made by Joe Public, without having to rely on grants or Lottery funding.Sputnik weighed nearly as much as I do, but all it did was measure temperature and pressure, then send beeps that changed if the temperature or pressure went outside a certain range. I know it has been outdone by students with CubeSats, but they still cost tens of thousands of dollars.I thought that it should be possible to recreate (and out-do) Sputnik's capabilities on a single board, a simple programmable control chip taking in the data from a set of sensor-chips encoding it somehow, then passing it to a transmitter to be beamed to Earth.I thought - still thinking micro-budget - that the whole thing could be cased in a short piece of sealed PVC tubing, since PVC is radio-transparent.In my head, in fact, the satellite looks like a relay baton, but shorter.Am I being stupidly optimistic?

solid state relays

I have four, 5A, 280V solid state relays. They are activated by 3-8V. I need to tie them together so that I end up with a total of 20A. Do I tie them in series, or parallel? Also, do I tie the inputs in series or parallel so that there is one input? Thanks.

The Long-Term Viability of Solid-State Storage?

The following is a hypothetical (for now...): What Is The Long-Term Viability of Solid-State Storage? So, what does that mean? Well, I am asking about the viability and chances of data or hardware corruption of solid state storage if left in a relatively clean environment for...say...100 years, would it last? More specifically, if it were a boot drive, would it still boot? I am sure some of you will have viable alternatives to solid-state for this purpose I have not considered, which is why I am asking publically. I am trying to ensure the safety of important data over long-term (100+ years) storage and usage. Are there any recommendations/issues or alternatives any of you can think of which would decrease the chances of data loss over such a time?

MGS5's iDroid - Can it be Built with Open Source Tech?

I can't get enough of Metal Gear Solid 5! It definitely deserves the 10/10 scores its received! But as cool as it would be to have a giant robot or even a Walker Gear that you and/or your enemies can pilot, I think the coolest thing to have from the game would be the "iDroid". If you havent played "The Phantom Pain" or "Ground Zeroes", the iDroid is a device Snake uses for multiple purposes. Some include: sending radio trasmissions and calling in supply drops or helicopters between the iDroid's location and Mother Base, Displaying a topographical satellite view of the area Snake is in, Organizing Mother Base staff, resources, R&D; projects, and playing music from cassette tapes found while on missions, Just to name a few. (bold font is to differentiate the uses) So is it possible to build a similar device using the open source technology of today? (minus the use of cassette tapes and a 2D holographic projection screen) I'm pretty confident that it can be done, but what do you guys think?

Are there Dremel attachment(s) meant for removing or shaping solid aluminum? Answered

First, I'll explain the background for my question.  I've been meaning to make a 1000 lumen Maglite (Jayrob from CandlePowerForums conceived the design-look it up, it's awesome).  I can get the heatsink from CPF vendors but they come with a 14.5mm diameter pedestal.  I want to reduce the diameter of the pedestal, ideally to less than 12.5mm in order to use a reflector with a smaller hole. So, which Dremel rotary tool attachment(s) would be appropriate for removing and/or 'shaping' aluminum?  Any ideas, other suggestions, or musings?  Thanks.

Where can I buy solid wood to make a jewellery box? Specifically walnut and cherry

I want to make a jewellery box and have an idea in mind but I need two different colours to pull it off. I want to make it out of walnut and cherry as they are dark and light respecitively and I think could work quite well together. I have literally no idea where to get it from. I need it in roughly 1/2". I live in England, in Essex, but I just need to know what to look for. all I can find is places that do veneered MDF. I'm only going on the assumption that 'those really nice ones' are actually made from solid wood. To be frank, I don't even know exactly what veneered wood is. Can someone help point me in the right direction?

Nonleathalbychoice style weapons/"props"

Hello to anyone who follows me. Yes I am still alive. Now the reason I am posting this is because I feel like I need to give back to the community I have been using/involved with for years now. Not the craft community but the Knex community here. Many of them have moved on from Knex since starting college and so have I. Mostly do to the lack of space and already messy room. So in order to give back I have come up with a better more interesting method. Instead of using Oblivitus's method of making the Knex guns in a CAD program I will instead be giving you the plans and basic instructions to make weapons/props inspired by Nonleathalbychoice.  This being said unlike the Knex guns these items are going to be less accessible, more difficult, and dangerous. To do these things it will help to have a computer with Solidworks 2014 on it. Later I will post PDFs of the cutting plans in order to reach a wider audience. That being said  some of the projects were  and will be inspired by scrap metal I found and will be costly and wasteful to replicate. However I believe that the raw materials for 4 of the projects came in at under $100 total. So still cheaper than many of the larger Knex guns. Also I probably wont be posting these things as step by step instructions since most of these items are made by just cutting out sheet/bar metal. Any advanced instructions will be noted. The time frame for these instructions is going to be very slow due to college. Expect maybe 1  a month if even that.  I will try to inform you of changes and fixes as soon as they become apparent to me.  Also I am first writing this after only an hour of sleep. So if any of you spot grammatical errors please point them out to me.

SSTC using microwave oven inverter?

I recently obtained a microwave oven inverter and I've been doing a lot of research trying to figure out how to power it. The microwave I found came with schematics and a decoder for the button membrane so I am able to operate the main control board and the MICOM board outside of the unit (with slight modifications) but I have yet to test the inverter in fear of blowing it up. Currently my question is can I build a 555 PWM to cheat the CPU or bypass it completely? if not then I suppose I could use the microwaves original circuitry to do so but I'd like to build a nice solid state tesla coil with it if possible.  Instructables is being retarded and wont let me add notes to my pictures  image one - Main control board to the left, MICOM control board in the middle, Iverter on the right image two - Slight modifications to power the board outside of the microwave image three - Used decoding chart to operate main circuit without button assembly image four and five - Showing the output of the MICOM board going to the CPU on the inverter and settings of Oscope (channel A)

Does anyone know of a solution that becomes a clear solid other than an expensive epoxy? I am filling 48" vases with broken glass holding tree branches for an event. I need to permanently anchor these. I have been using an epoxy made for this application however, because of the size the cost is becoming prohibitive. Parafin is not strong enough. The sodium silicate from the "cash for clunkers" program is not clear. Ice is not practical. Even something I could melt and reset may work.
