Re-using Smart TV board from dead TV to make another TV smarter...

Hi, I have just bought LG 47GA6400 TV but I damaged LCD screen (CRD31092201) when I was assembling it.  I couldn't find low cost LCD to replace and I started wondering how I can reuse any remaining parts of this TV. Actually there are many people like me wondering what to do with dead Smart TV. Few years ago you would receive a standard advice – throw it away. But today Smart TV parts are powerful and with your help might be re-used again... Here is an example: My LG TV has mainboard with dual core CPU,  Google TV inside and cool remote controller with QWERTY keyboard and tons of applications.... I wish I could reuse it with other, not so smart LCD TV I have.  The only problem, how to connect Smart TV mainboard to a HDMI.  It doesn't have HDMI out, it has only input ports and one LCD interface cable.... Is it a crazy idea to convert LCD interface back to HDMI or VGA ? Can you create an instructables to show how to do that ?

Instructables on TV!

I just saw a story about the iRobot Instructables contest on TV, specifically about the winner's creation. The show is called Attack of the Show on G4 in the States and G4 TechTV here in Canada. I really can't say much about it, since I wasn't really watching that part. They did show "Instructables.com" though.

Grundig TV doesnt power up !

Hi everyone. I am new in this area, mention that I have the basis of electronics but I'm not good debugging. Now let's cut to the chase: I have a Grundig T70 - 540 text / GB, with chassis CUC 5310 (GCT 28 - do not know what this is, but may help). When I turned on the TV smelled burned and I quickly turned off from the button (the general). I opened, I checked visual components that can burn resistance, a capacitor etc, but I noticed nothing. I checked, because of the short time, the fuses on the board (I know, mistake). After i start the TV from general inside i hear a ticking, as the clock and nothing happens, the TV remains off. May it be the sound for entry in protection or something? What could it be?

What to do with giant plasma tvs

I bought 2 50" plasma tvs at an auction for $105 and found out they don't work.  I've identified the error messages and downloaded the service manuals.  But the manuals require I test certain boards and I don't know how to do that.  I can't afford to spend $400-$800 to have a repairman fix them (someone at Justanswer told me that's what the charge will likely be). What can I do with these? Are the parts reusable for something else?

fishbowl with floating tv

Can someone tell me if this has already been done or where i might find some information? (beg pardon if answer is painfully apparent / easy to find and i didnt) backstory: i bought a house. in historical documents of 1905 a lighted "french" sculpture was mentioned. it is now gone but there is a convenient hole with a electric switch for said hole. i was thinking of what to put in the hole and i remembered watching the Chris Isaak tv show something like ten years ago and aside from the amiable goofball lead the show also had an wise advisor character who was dressed up like a mermaid and through the refractive index of a fishbowl and some other feats of science appeared to be floating and moving in a large fishbowl mounted on a table in a bar. question1; does anyone know the conditions necesary to set up a similar trick? maybe with a small tv, cell phone screen, clock, camera, or something else set up on the bottom of a glass ball with the image floating in the ball? question 2; could you set up a large trapezoidal cube made of glass on top of a flat screen tv on the floor where the light bending quality of the glass would redirect the image on the tv on all the surfaces of the cube? sub-question; could you make said cube with slightly convex surfaces to enlarge the image of a very small image projector?

Laser TV Anyone?

While echo_anomie's laser projector is a finalist in the Laser Cutter Contest, a full-color laser projection TV was announced at CES. The LaserTV is coming from Mitsubishi and even though it's a 65-inch beast and is rear projection the footprint isn't that bad and the price is set to be on par with LCDs and plasmas of the same size.At home I watch movies on a 20" Daewoo that I picked up from Best Buy a few years ago because I needed it for work. It works fine enough for me, but I do like to keep tabs on the new tech so I occasionally go and check out the monster TVs that Best Buy likes to push. So far the colors and viewing angles haven't completely sold me enough to drop several hundred or a couple thousand just so I can enjoy the occasional DVD a little more.Still, I'm curious as to how these will look and maybe, just maybe, in a few years I might buy one. What do you guys think? And no discussing the depth please because these aren't that deep and nobody really moves their huge TVs around. link with slightly NSFW pics

Kitty TV

Every year, winter comes to RI (as it should). Then every year my family makes a cardboard house for the outdoor cats (they started off as one stray cat a couple of years ago, but of course multiplied). The cardboard houses would be thrown out at the end of winter since they would become soggy (even though we covered them in plastic bags) and an eye sore on the porch. Last winter, one of our friends got a little overambitious and made a house that was way too big (we could have fit both of our Golden Retrievers inside with room to spare), so the cats didn't use it. Last month I reorganized my room and decided to get rid of the cabinet I had placed my TV in. I was gonna toss or burn it, but decided to convert it in to a place for the cats to live. The light located on top doesn't light up, but is instead connected to a flashlight connected to the interior of the cabinet which does light up when the push light is "clicked".

Fixing A CRT TV

I am planning on buying some classic consoles soon, (NES,SNES,SEGA Genesis,N64, etc) and I want to be able to play them on the kind of screen they were made for, a CRT. I have one that a friend gave me, but due to being moved a lot, and probably not gently, the picture has fallen out of alignment. Specifically it cuts off a large portion of the screen on the left, (leaving a thick space of black on the right) and is at a slight angle. It is not all that big of a shift, but it is a real pain in games with items in that section, because ammo counts, health bars, treasure chests, and even chunks of text can be hidden in that space. Could anyone tell me how to fix this issue? And how hard it is to do?

Movie Glasses

I had an idea the other night, but no idea of how to go about it. I Want to take two small screens probably about one to two inches big, then mount them on sunglasses and somehow input movie from an HDMI or an HDMI micro. like This: http://www.chinavasion.com/cool-gadgets/60-inch-virtual-video-screen-glasses-for-iphone-ipad-ipod/ but for anything that can output HDMI. i thought about this when i was on the plane and was tired of the people behind me asking to tilt the monitor -.- i have a Thrill 4G that uses a Micro HDMI to HDMI so im sure it would work with my phone and many others if we did it(although users without that HDMI port would need the adapter that makes Mirco USB to HDMI aswell) so basicly.. Android phone to adapter that has HDMI in to a pair of 2" screens to output movie ---------- I        ->I ------------------------- ]----------  I Imicro I                                   I Device   I                        IHDMI I                                   I                I                                                                        I ______ }------------------ ---[videodisplay ] --[videodisplay]  Android                               HDMI       video                     sunglass                          sunglass                                                 IN               out                       screen1                           screen2

TV like websites anyone

Has anbody else used sites like hulu.com(only for USA, sorry Europe) and TV.com and other sites like that to watch free tv? Because i just got rid of the dial-up at my house and got a 1mbs DSL conncetion and am starting to watch TV online, being that i still recieve free over the air TV and with the interent i can watch all sorts of amazing shows like mythbusters and how its made(and occasionally the office). And after watching all of those shows online, and for free I was wondering if anyone knows of any decent converters/downloaders(you know just a regular flv. downloader) for me to get these on to my iPod, because that would be awesome to be able to watch all sorts of tv shows on my iPod, legally. So post some other sites that you use to watch TV and converters/downloaders you use.

Nutty, wild, possibly illegal but bold idea: TV channel change prank

Materials: High output IR light/beacon Power source Cable tv remote or equivalent code sender High altitude urban viewpoint Stealth attire The basic scheme is to send out a high output IR signal from this beacon to cable boxes to switch channels .  The signal would be bright enough to reflect into any facing windows and reach the cable box IR receiver. It might hopefully affect tv's within a radius of a mile? Or more! If performed at a certain appointed time, say, at the beginning of the Super Bowl, to tune in to, say, the History Channel, it's possible the effect will show up in the Neilson ratings as a momentary blip, before annoyed football fans switch their tv's back. Guerrilla social mischief. If successful. Thanks.

Instructables... A TV show?

Yes, yes I know there was/is the Ibles TV streaming vids but...What if we have a proper Instructables TV show?In each episode the cast (who don't behave like a bunch of bumbling, mumbling, caffeinated baboons) can demonstrate how to do a few of the more popular ibles, and give some tips on DIY and whatnot.Authors of the ibles used on the show could get paid a small commision... *has vision of Kiteman rolling in a big pile greenbacks wearing bling-bling*... Or perhaps not.But I think it would be a good idea, it would increase traffic on the site, get more ibles submitted, and on the whole increase the popularity of Instructables. PBS or Discovery might take it up (I prefer PBS personally)...

How to cheaply get TV on a Portable DVD player

Hi, what's the cheapest and/or simplest way to pick up TV signals on a Portable DVD player. I have a Polaroid player w/ 11" lcd screen the DOES have AV input jacks. I assume I will need a Digital antenna and some sort of receiver. Where can I find these, how compact are they and what can I expect to spend? Is there an all in one or unit? I'm open to hacks. Any input or advice would be appreciated, Thank you.

Need to make a shelf or table for the top of my TV

I need to be able to put plants on top of my TV and need a shelf/table of some sort to put them on.  The tv is on a 15" deep microwave cart and there is about 2" clearance on either side.  The cart is 25" wide.  I have 15" wide 3/4" fiberboard that I can cut to needed width but can't come up with a good way to make it stand up (independently of the tv).  I thought about just putting some legs on the board but am concerned that this will be strong enough to hold the weight of a plant (let's assume 35 lbs but I doubt I would put anything that heavy on it).  Here is photo of what the table/stand will go on and the red lines are what I hope it to look like.  Any help would be appreciated.  Oh, and it has to be CHEAP!  I've already spent $15 on 8' of board and don't want to spend a great deal more.

Bluetooth TV audio for Disabled Vet

I am a disabled vet having suffered hearing loss in Iraq (amongst other things). I wear hearing aids and was given a device by the VA that I wear around my neck.  It is a bluetooth device that pairs my iPhone to my hearing aids.  A different device I was given plugged into my TV and sent an audio signal to a set of headphones.  The idea is so that I could turn up my volume w/out affecting everyone elses. BUT... I never got it to work, AND it's been lost since I moved. SO, I was hoping the community could help me figure out a way to incorporate the bluetooth idea but instead of from my phone to my hearing aids, I'd like to go from my TV to my hearing aids.
