tablet pc

What would it take to install a tablet pc screen onto a regular laptop? or what would it take to convert a tablet pc screen to a usb tablet ? (maybe a dvi port to display on it and a usb to allow for the input from the screen?)

Google Tablet Information

There seems to be quite a lot of buzz about the (rumored?) Google Tablet but I am unable to find any information that is all that useful like specifications, an official Google webpage for it, an official announcement of the product by google, etc. and so was wondering if anyone knew anything about it or had any links relating to the aforementioned topics.  If so, please post them here and this forum should help to clear up some of the frenzy and confusion surrounding the tablet.  Thanks!

Tablet PC From Netbook? Answered

Hello Everyone :) I'm new to this community, though I'm not new to DIY projects. I hope somebody can help me out, I need some help with a proposed project of mine.  I have an old Acer Aspire one 751h and it's an 11.6 inch netbook, LED screen, and I'm willing to tear it down to make a windows tablet. I know I need a touch screen kit, but I need help choosing one, I don't mind resistive ( I know it's very hard to find a multi touch 11.6 inch touch screen kit) In fact, I would say I would prefer ressistive as It's cheaper. One more thing, is it possible to use a larger touchscreen on a smaller screen and then calibrate it? as long as it's the same aspect ratio? For the tablet case/ body, inverting the screen and using the original Acer aspire one 751h case isn't hard, but if it's possible to use perspex or a material like that ( no carbon fibre please) I would like a few pointers. I don't mind the tablet having a rectangular feel/ look, as long as it's easy and practical to build. I also have an old  8x6 inch graphics tablet with 1024 levels of sensitivity, is there any way I can use this along with the touchsreen for input? Like behind the screen.  The netbook runs Full HD content and windows 7 fine and has a 16:9 aspect ratio screen, one of the reasons I'm keen on the project . Thanks a lot ! :)

Choice of tablet?

I have decided that I need a tablet computer for work purposes - I want to be able to have my desk-based PC running the interactive whiteboard, whilst having sensitive data (such as markbooks, registers and internal emails) on the tablet. I would also be able to have images and data on the tablet screen for small group work, without having to disrupt the rest of the class. I own an iPod, and have played with an iPad at an Apple store, and borrowed a friend's iPad, so I know it will do the job for me. What about Windows / Android tablets, though? The last Android device I used was very glitchy, but that was a year ago.  Has it gotten as stable as iOS? Of specific interest, do Windows or Android tablets start up from standby as fast an an iPad?  If they're slow, I might as well dig out my netbook.

Old tablet PC into wacom like external

So I have a old, half broken Acer tablet PC. (C314xmi, to be specific)My new asus laptop gets here in a few days, and I know I'm going to miss the tablet functionality. I was looking at WACOM external tablets, and saw they made ones that are LCD screens. But they're like $1000, for something pretty small compared to my 15" tablet. So I was wondering, can I take the screen off my tablet and turn it into an external monitor that I can also use as a tablet? So I was wondering if anyone has heard of someone doing this, done it themselves, or has any other info that might help me with my new summer project. And since you can find old tablets on ebay for like 300-400, this would be a cheap alternative to Wacom setups. Thanks!

Cintiq/Lcd Tablet

Is it possible to make a replacement screen for a tablet pc to be a cintiq-like external display tablet? I've seen replacement screens available on eBay as well as tablets that are missing components like hdd, keyboard, ram, etc which could be used to obtain said screen. This would not be a stand-alone device like a tablet, but a second display for either a desktop or a laptop that would function as a screen and tablet for input, a cintiq clone. Thanks

Tablet PC into a regular tablet/ screen tablet? Is it possible?

I owned a tablet PC - fujitsu T4010D and after a while, I had to stop using it - as I've gotten it USED, and I stepped on it as well (lol I'm a klutz, yeah..) it began being a danger to use.  Between the previous ans current issues, it would spark, etc. etc. A few months later my main tablet, my intuos3 died on me so I have no tablet at all.  So I then thought - would it be possible to convert the digitizer and everything in the tablet PC and simply turn it into either: A:  A screen tablet (like the Cintiq) that would work with another computer or... B: Simply a regular tablet for another computer With option A, I'd assume there would be the annoying process of getting a digitizer (unless it can be utilized from the current laptop) and everything.  I asked that a while back and I was told it's sort of not worth it for making another screen. With option B... I really don't know if there's any way of doing it. Overall, having a screen tablet that uses Wacom's technology is nice, without the $2000 price tag it holds.  In the case of having a general tablet, if it can be done without spending $600-$1000 I'd like to try my hand at it... ...Is this even possible, though?

I have looked online and the only things even close to this use 9-pin serial ports. This computer does not have any. Is there another way? external battery charging option for Asus EP121 tablet pc

Hello all, A friend posed me with a problem as to how to extend his field time with his Asus EP121 tablet pc. It does not have removable batteries so the option appeared to be to come up with an external battery pack to power the tablet when the internal battery got low on charge. The output of the DC charger is listed as 19.5 V DC / 3.08A. A suitable option to me appears to be a Dewalt cordless tool battery pack. The unit in particular is the DCB200 20V MAX lithium ion battery pack, spec'd at 20V at 3.0AH. Aside from having to come up with an interface between the connector on the battery pack to the jack on the tablet, is this idea advisable or viable? Thanks, Gutbucket

How can I use a portable scanner with a tablet PC?

Hello, I'm trying something new: I want to completely eliminate paper (and all the messes and lost handouts that go along with it) from my high school career by using a tablet PC and a portable scanner to instantly digitize everything and keep it in one neat, organized spot. However, I'm not sure what the best way to do this is. Basically, I'm looking for a tablet that has - 6 to 8 hours of battery life to last through a day - as large of a screen as possible - the ability to view and search through PDF files - the ability to view and edit text documents (preferably with handwriting recognition) - the ability to effectively sort and organize large numbers of PDF and image files into folders that I can easily access - support for Java and Flash - WiFi - and the ability to connect with a portable scanner that can scan several pages, convert them to PDF files with text recognition, and merge them into one large document Unfortunately, there are so many tablets available on the market that I haven't been able to process everything that I'm seeing! One of the problems, however, seems to be that the new Android tablets are really nothing more than large cell phones and will not be able to interface with a portable scanner in the capacity that I want them to (using an SD card to transfer image files to my tablet from my scanner would not be enough - is there any app for text recognition, PDF conversion, and PDF merging?) while Windows 7 tablets suffer from bulkiness and short battery life. Also, from what I've read, while Windows 7 is optimized for tablet use, with multitouch compatibility and handwriting recognition, many standard Windows programs are not, making them difficult to use without a keyboard and mouse. Do any of you have advice? Thanks! Xellers

Streaming VGA from a PC over IP to an Android or iOS Tablet

Needing ideas on how to stream the VGA output of a PC over a network so that an Andoid or iOS Tablet can be used to monitor it remotely (in the same network) by accessing the IP address.  I have a machine at work and  I want to remotely monitor the screen. Looking for ideas either on ready-made off the shelf components/software or ideas on how to build something to do this. I have done web searches for such equipment and everything that I have found seems to be enterprise level (read extremely expensive) Notes: 1.  This is for video only.  Sound is not necessary. 2.  Also, this needs to be on the output side of the computer and software running on the host computer is not an option as the machine is a DOS machine. Any thoughts? Thanks, Tom

Touch Tablet from a Pocket PC? Can a 7 inch display be added to a WM5 Pocket PC so as to make a touch display tablet?

I use a WM5 Dell AXIM X51 to read e-books and not much else. I use the PIM features and sometimes a spirited game of Bejeweled but that's about all. As I said it's 98% e-book using MobiPocket Reader. I don't want to blow $350 on a Kindle (an expensive black and white one trick pony) and I think e-ink is just a buzz word. I've already added a download of Wikipedia, put it in a cover that says "Don't Panic" and would like to take it to the next level. I mean, I can buy them refurbed for $98, why do I need a Kindle?

...How to add a better cooling system to the HP tx2500z tablet PC?

The HP tx2500z tablet is known for its high heat/loud fan. Most of the heat comes from the CPU, and some from HD, but the CPU is mainly the problem. My model is specifically the tx2510us that comes with the AMD Turion X2 64 Ultra 2.1 GHz ZM-80 Processor. I'm looking for a hardware method to fix the heat problem/loud fan problem. Lowering the processor power state can only be useful if I'm doing VERY light processor work. The processor gets too hot and the fan too loud. Many people face this problem, and I have crawled the web looking for a tutorial or a mention of something like this, and I failed to find anything. If you know of a special cooling technology and/or a quieter fan, please let me know. I bet you a lot of people will find the answer to my question useful. Thank You.

LCD Tablet Idea: NEED HELP!

Hey all, first time posting on this forum. I'm a skilled computer builder/all around good handyman with pretty much anything, and last night, i had a laptop laying around, so I decided to dismantle it. So cool, I took apart my first laptop, that was fun- but what to do now? Well, I mean, who doesn't want one of these? I mean, honestly, that would probably be the greatest thing I could ever own. Alas, I have a basic, $100 tablet from Genius. It's fine for my needs, although, probably not as accurate as some of the $300+ ones from Wacom, but I liked this one. It's very thin, and quite large (almost 14 inches diagonally). Anyway, if you haven't figured out where i'm going, I'll inform you. After disassembling every component of the display (which i believe was my mistake) and I put the guts of my tablet behind the last layer of the screen, closed it all back up, and wrote on it, and it worked fine as a tablet, but when I tried to hook it back up to the laptop and boot it, to see if the display worked, it booted once, didn't display anything, shut itself down, and that was the end of that. Now, I did a terrible job dismantling my first laptop, so I'm gonna make sure I do a good job with the next one, but I need to know what you guys think, if you could save me any troubles that I might face along the way, please help me! lol, also, I will update this with pics as I go through the process. Sorry, this post is just a culmination of ideas, and not so much a logical text.EDIT: I was kinda trying to combine THIS and THISSECOND EDIT: I came across another laptop, this one even older. I think I decided it's going to be a lot easier (and more practical) to do it with a LCD PC display, and not a laptop. Regardless, here is where I am right now, and I have a few questions:Can I take the actual screen apart? I did with the last one, so I know what the insides look like, I just don't know if I shoulda done that. Anyway, like I said, or I might not have, the tablet behind the screen works. I put it in as the very last layer inside the casing, before the final thin sheet of white plastic that is taped to t he back, and it worked just fine. I would like to do that again, but what must I do to ensure that the screen will work again? If you don't have the answers I seek, please refer me to a good forum that I can become a member of and get some good solid advice, because the internet does not have much information on this subject, I guess not many people try this?

Anyone know their PDAs, Internet tablets?

Does anyone know much about modern PDAs or "internet tablets"?Background- like a complete eejit I managed to break the screen on the Guide, so after fuelling my fifteen minutes of internet fame it looks like being relegated to memento status. It occurs to me that for the 80 quid it would cost me to replace the hardware I could probably get a much more recent PDA or similar device and have more adventures with that. I'm not very familiar with this newfangled technology, however: the last PDA I owned before the Guide was a Psion series 3 and I always buy cheapo phones that don't double as internet browsers, games consoles or teasmades. Therefore I could use some help sifting through the wealth of devices available for one that meets my requirements. These, in rough order of importance, are:Browser availableCheap!Competent operating system, preferably Linux, preferably not WindowsExpansion card slot for readily available flash storage (CF, MMC, SD etc)Decent-sized touch screen or decent sized screen and QWERTY keyboardPocket sizedCan interface with a PC (running Linux) relatively easilyIsn't a phone, camera or mp3 playerThe only really important ones are the first four. From what I've seen the Nokia 770 seems to meet most of these. Sadly it only supports 2GB of flash storage on RS-MMC, but I can live with that- it seems small RS-MMC cards are so cheap that I could get several and have a multi-volume encyclopaedia :)Does anyone know any other devices that might fit this description, or can tell me more about the 770?

Is there any way to stream a DVD or a Blu Ray disc from a home theater player to a tablet PC?

Folks, I've searched and searched.  But wouldn't it be nice to be able to put a movie in to your Blu Ray player and stream it via either WiFi or Bluetooth TO your tablet. I'd like to be able to do this as tablets generally don't have HDMI jacks and if they do it's only to stream content FROM the tablet. I'd like to be able to sit in my recliner and watch a movie on a DVD or BR I already own, while my wife watches something else.  Developers take note;  I contacted the WiFi alliance and spoke to a fellow there who hadn't even thought of the idea. If someone comes up with an application and/or a device that would make this possible they could  make some serious income patenting it.  Just give me a free unit to evaluate if you do :).

LCD Swappems

Hello creative tech people, This is my first post so I hope I got it in the right section, and I did a lot of research before creating this post. I've been researching this for a bit, and I've gotten a sudden fascination with LCDs (mostly of the full color display variety) and I've been planning on making  custom tablet style PCs based on old laptops just for fun and experimentation but in my planning I hit a bit of a snag in regards to the screen. Since much to my dismay they weren't swappable and relied on a controller intertwined in the motherboard. There's also the inverter which I'm not sure how relevant it is to the project, This is a real issue for me because I wanted to use a variety of screens from big ones to tiny ones from smartphones or mp3 players. I was wondering three things: 1. Can you make a monitor connect to a different motherboard through the magic of soldering? 2. (if #1 is a yes) will the controller handle the different signal or does each one have a different driver format and all that aggravating frippery? 3. Would taking apart a standard vga flat screen monitor and using that instead of a laptop screen avoid the issue altogether? Or would it bring up new problems?

Building: wireless monitor/tablet recycling old laptop parts

Please be positive and constructive with your questions and comments.Building wireless touchscreen ar1100 to bluetooth transmitte by Fearlessleader on Tue Mar 20, 2018 5:04 am Hi I have 15.4 samsung laptop screen I am converting to 4 wire touch overlay and want to us the ar1100 but need to go from the usb out bluetooth wireless mouse transmitter. I would need the same type of transmitter like any bluetooth mouse would have inside. The mini pc I am building has both bluetooth and wireless display.Parts list so far15.4 samsung screen pulled from a Dell laptop modle LTN154W1-L01Control board for the screen with hdmi ebay 30$ link 12v 3 amp power supply for the screen controler I already have but later I would build voltage control unit that would charge or power the whole unit. Again YouTube has videos and links for the part for this. And I really don't want to have a bunch a supplies to run it. While prototype it I will the final will run from the laptop I got the screen from. It should plenty of power for a single board computer like the new pi 3 to be added and the audio amp15.4 4 wire overlay conversion many sorce's about 50$ link $Ar1100 touch to usb mouse adafuit 10$ link wireless receiver. 20 to 40$ depending on features like if it has chromecasting and such I just need video so I think the 20$ unit will do nice. These can be found in many places, so I would think this to be open end item depending on features the builder wants. I would buy the best you can afford to leave it fexible .The last thing I need to make work would be usb transmitter to make the ar1100 bluetooth or matched pair of 2.4 dongles usb this is the only item missing. I could test the whole set up but would have run 1 usb cable, but that's a deal breaker for full wireless... If I had a old bluetooth mouse and knew how take its transmitter out, that work but a bluetooth usb adapter the would plug in the ar1100 board would be the thing I need.If someone would know how to remove the mouse transmitter and wire it to male usb plug I would be happy to buy it. I real want this to made from as much recycled parts as possible.I just don't want to have run a usb cable from ar1100 to the pc.I don't think the same usb dongle that's used to the pc is the same as the one used in every bluetooth mouse or keyboard. That's my idea for a wireless touchscreen handheld All the parts are easy to get I just need make the ar1100 usb board and wireless usb transmitter. The pc would use GA-h77n-wifi mini itx as it has both bluetooth & wireless display and wifi.Part 2The idea sound lol! I want to build a frame for the screen with speakers and laptop battery and used the power supply from the Dell laptop I got the screen from, that would need a small amp. Since the receiver is hdmi, I would think the audio would be there if not that would be simple to just use a bluetooth stereo headphones and run the earphone wires to the small audio amp.I would like any comments on this idea and a sorce the one part that missing the usb mouse transmitter for the ar1100 and this could be built. So What do you folks think? A portable monitor 100% wireless that could even double as touchscreen remote! I even thought down the road to add the new pi 3 to it as that would completely independent as low power tablet or connect to the pc that nvidia gpu and could stream pc games to My Nvidia shield too. Mcbook LCD swap for 12inch

I am working on converting my macbook into a tablet PC, and I have everything pretty much figured out but...I was wondering if there is a way, or better yet, how i could swap the 13inch LCD with a smaller LCD.I have the LCD from a 12inch powerbook g4 on hand, and would like to use it instead of the standard 13inch screen. This will allow me more room to relocate things inside the tablet, as well as allow better fitting for everything. It will also help with the purchase of the touch screen as most touch panels I find are 12 or 15 inch.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Windows - Monitor turning itself off after a few minutes.

Today I faced a problem that according to my internet research on the tablet is quite costly and annoying. First off my specs for the computer in the basic form: Windows 7 on 32GB of RAM with a decent Nvidia graphics card. Problem: After a few minutes of use the screen suddenly goes dark, like when going on standby but Windows itself still runs as normal. Quite often when it happens the screen brightness goes up to max right before the screen goes dark. Taking out the monitor cable and pluggin it back in usually gives the screen a few seconds until it goes dark again. Official solution as suggested in many forums and knowledgebases: Take check if the problem is the same when using a different video port on the card - checked and it was for me. Check it the fan is working as it could be the card shuts down from heat problems - checked and cleaned the heatsink while at it. Replace the graphics card if problem persists - Why the hell would I do that???? My solution: Take the card out. Clean it with some air, especially the heatsink and fan. If have and old school office using paper and pen you might have one of these fancy easers with a blue part that is really coarse and has some fine particles in it. They were used to remove ink or pen writings instead of pencil marks. If you don't have one take some aluminium foil and crunch it to a small ball. Use the eraser/foil to clean the contacts of the card. The gold plating should come out nice and shiny, if it still looks dull keep working it a few minutes longer. Just rub from one side to the other over the contacts. Once fully shiny remove all debris by blowing it off - pay special attention to the tiny gaps between the contacts!! If in doubt use an old toothbrush (dry and clean of course) to clean between the contacts, a cottum bud works too if you are desperate. Put the card back into the computer and you have a really high chance the monitor stays on and will work fine from now on.

Creating a Cell Phone (Kangaroo PC + 4G LTE module + LCD Touchscreen)

Good afternoon, all! As the title sums up, I am looking at the Kangaroo PC [1], which is a $99 battery-powered pocket PC, about the size of a cell-phone, with a tablet processor and a full Windows 10 OS, and I'm asking myself one question. Why is this not a cell phone yet?! Basically, I want to install an LCD touchscreen, a 4G LTE module, and some software. This project is similar to Raspberry Pi cell phones, in the sense that it will be DIY, and the new Microsoft Lumia, in the sense that it hooks up to a monitor for desktop. Does anybody have any advice, or know what direction to point me in? I am specifically asking for help with the 4G LTE module and maybe the LCD Touchscreen. I'm not sure what to get, where to get them, or how to install them. (I've searched and found miniPCIe and m.2 modules, so far.) Thank you!! [1]: (Newegg)

DIY Light pen- how tosend absolute position & pressure to PC/software? Answered

I'm planning on converting an old CRT monitor to use a light pen. I have the hardware side of things largely figured out, so I can get an absolute position of the pen on the screen and a pressure value, but I don't know the best way to go about getting those values into the PC or software. Ideally, I'd like to use R-S232 or PS/2 to connect to the PC, in both of which the cursor could be homed by the hardware and then moved to an absolute position by keeping track of the relative positions sent, all using the standard drivers, albeit without a pressure input. However, I have found this specification for synaptics touchpads, which provides information on using their driver to send more data (including pressure) over the PS/2 or serial connection, but I can't tell if the absolute mode is intended to work as I want it to, or if is simply to catch and correct any bad position reports. I also doubt this pressure input will be recognised or used by any software. The only alternative I can see is USB, which looks horrible to try and implement, and still doesn't look as though it will support a pressure input with the standard drivers. Ideally I'd like to try to emulate one of wacoms touchscreens, as this would allow me to use their drivers, allowing it to be compatible with most software, though so far I have been unable to find any information on this, and don't expect that I will be able to get it without borrowing a tablet and watching the communications with the PC. Which interface would be best, and does anyone have any suggestions regarding drivers? Thanks in advance for any help.

Can you turn a laptop LCD screen into a standard LCD Monitor / replace another brand laptop screen?

My laptop is a Dell Latitude CPi and is INCREDIBLY old. It was made for Windows NT / 9x systems. The laptop itself no longer powers on for some reason, but the LCD might be useable. Instead of getting a new LCD for $100 or replacing the cracked screen on my acer laptop for $600+, I'm wondering if it's possible to convert the screen into either an LCD screen, a Cintiq-esqe tablet display (where there's probably a USB and monitor cable) or, if it can be used on an acer 5520 laptop (the screen is cracked and using it on the same monitor I need for my PC isn't the easiest thing).

Can I stuff a Bluetooth Headset into a Clamshell Phone? Answered

Posted about something like this about a month ago, and after some searching, I found something like this, (, (  It more than meets needs, but I was wondering on the feasibility of a DIY build that can pick up and end phone calls, and stuffing it into a clamshell phone case, assuming I could find/fab up an empty shell. Would it be my best bet to disassemble an earpiece, or try and recreate with an arduino variant, or some other third option? To be perfectly honest, I was looking for something to bulk reproduce and sell locally, maybe try a kickstarter or kitbash, or post an instructable for that matter, but anything in the right direction would help.

How can I create a two-way internet video connection with remote control of an arduino controlled single servo motor?

Hi! I'm trying to develop a project idea that will enable me to connect to my home while I'm away to feed my saltwater fish. I want to be able to establish a two way live video connection and also be able to control a remote device using an arduino controlled servo motor that will deliver the food with a push of a button or click of a mouse. I'd like to be able to use my smart phone or PC to view and control the device. I have a Nexus 7 tablet at home that I plan to use to connect to the arduino to deliver the food and to see the fish tank. Any detailed input on how I can pursue this would be really appreciated. I am a newbie and need some expert advice. :-) Thanks for your help!

I want to control a RC Rock Crawler 4X4 truck with Wi-Fi in place of the radio control? ?

I have a RC "radio control" 4X4 Rock Crawler Truck that I have mounted a AIRSIGHT Wi-Fi camera with pan and tilt that has a 360 degree range of about 150 Feet from my wireless router, I want to use the pan signal from the camera to control the steering and use the tilt signal for forward and reverse. The truck will not need a speed control as it moves very slow anyhow. It has a normal servo for the steering and two 12 volt DC motor's for the front and rear drive's.  I have a Arduino UNO and a 2A Motor Shield that I bought for the truck but this will be my first project of this type and I need help. Also I will not need the camera to pan or tilt but I thought it would be easy to cut the wires to the pan and tilt motors and use them for my signal wires for steering and forward and reverse, also I can drive the truck with the camera software from any PC or tablet.  Thanks for any help!
