what do you think

Every one is going "green" these days and I myself am planning on going head on the opposite direction this is what I have, let me know what you think. I am building a GMC 3/4 ton 4wd. my first priority was what motor to use. so I asked around and a family friend said he had a 2 ton grain truck that has been sitting for years and was looking to get rid of it, he said it had a big block in it. so I took it because it was a big block. it is a 366 cubic inch big block tall deck (NOT A BORED OUT 350) I figured if its good enough for a two ton truck its good enough for my 3/4 ton. I also pulled out the transmission and it is the sm 465great transmission, and my dad gave me the transfer case its the np 205 the king of transfer cases. now I need better axels all i have are the factory 12 and 14 bolt. I am sure they will do but I am looking at getting the Rockwell 2 and 1/2 ton planetary gear set. you know the axels in the duce and a halves .I have a predicted fuel mileage of three to five miles to the gallon. but I could challenge anyone to try to out pull me because I have the gearing and the power

Homemade Jet Truck with 2700 HP

Jets keep getting added on to other items. Just a few days ago it was a bike and now it's a truck. This combination weighs in at 6,600 pounds with 2 occupants and still takes 8.5 seconds to hit 60 mph, but just think of the looks on other drivers' faces when you fire it up on the highway. Ideas and Methods for DIY Truck Topper

So in 5 months starting February I'll be getting my first vehicle. If I do get a truck, I'll be making my own topper out of wood. Now I have a reference picture but I want it out of wood just because it's more secure and looks pretty. Also because I will be making a door on the back that stands tall but can also be walked through. The first two photos is how I want to make the topper but I need methods and advice to do so. The third picture is how I want the door. I'll try to answer any question when you have them but keep in mind I don't currently own a truck, this is for 6 months down the road.

Anyone have any experience with KEI Trucks (Mini Trucks)?

I know this isn't really an instructables-type question, but I respect the opinion of a lot of people onn here and wanted to see what people thought. I'm looking ahead to when I'm ready to get a new vehicle, since KEI trucks are street legal here, and are highly fuel efficient, I was wondering if anyone has any experience driving them on a highway? I put a lot of kms on every day, so highway travel is a must. I know they are good at low speed, but I was concerned about them maintaining say 100-110km/h (62-68mph). Can anyone give me advice on this? Wondering because price of gas here just hit $1.44/L (approx. $5.44/gallon) and its only going to go up between now and summer...

Wanted: Vehicle

Hey there I am a dude who is just trying to find a car, I recently had stolen and it went through a chop shop. The insurance company will only settle to give me a piece of crap settlement fund, so in other words I need a vehicle (preferably running). I live in the central Texas area, and would love some help here because I need a vehicle to get to work and school to pay my bills. Please PM me if you have any ideas or can offer any help on the subject. I only have a few hundred dollars I can spend (the insurance settlement). I don't mind doing a bit of work cosmetically, or even functionally as long as it wont cost me a fortune to fix up front. Thank you. AB

RC Car/truck Lap Timing

I would like to know what people would suggest as to what hardware to use to try to make a wireless RC timing system, Single car use at first but might scale up to race standards? The currently available hardware costs a lot, and is usually to dear for a home user! What it needs is a wireless transpoder in the car/truck (maybe rfid/bluetooth) that when it passes a certain location it updates the time on a counter (usb/bluetooth to laptop/phone, or arduiono based???) Any ideas??? William (Slim19198)

Suggestions must be MOTORIZED, and WITHOUT MODIFYING PIECES. Thanks for the help!

DIY Plug-In Hybrid Pickup Truck

Hi everyone, For a while, I've had this as my "back-burner" project. I'm trying to really get going on it now. It's an Open Source, DIY, Plug-in Diesel/Electric Hybrid Pickup truck. That's really a mouthful, so I'm just calling it the "SuperTruck" project, until I can come up with a better name. The entire concept is that it is a parallel hybrid, which you can charge from the wall, and it has a diesel engine that can run on diesel, bio-diesel, and possibly veggie oil. Either the engine OR forklift motor will be able to propel the vehicle. (Meaning that it will have a dedicated EV mode.) The driver can manually decide to run it on diesel, electric, or both depending on the driving situation. The mechanicals are relatively simple. It uses a manual transmission (rather than a CVT or planetary gearing.) In theory, this will be a project than any advanced grease monkey will be able to duplicate. I'm not much of a car guy, but I have learned quite a bit working on my electric motorcycle, electric car, and experimenting with running my car as a hybrid. Here's a YouTube playlist of what I've got going so far. For the latest on this project, please visit the page for it on my blog: http://300mpg.org/projects/supertruck/ I'll definately need help on this project, so please tell all your friends about it!

Homemade skate / mountainboard trucks?

Does anyone have any ideas how I could make something that resembles a skateboard or mountainboard truck at home? I want to build my own motorised mountainboard from various parts on the very cheap, of which none will actually be from a board. The trucks seem like the one thing I might have to buy since I can't think of a way to add turning and carving capability to a homemade board. Any ideas would be most appreciated.

I just took a ride in an awesome truck

Here's some photos from the new model from Topeka Electric Motors. It's a 3/4 ton Chevy pickup with a gigantic motor and a boatload of lithium batteries, with an automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, A/C, etc. The motor on this thing is HUGE...a foot or so in diameter. This is a truck that could tow a cement mixer. They're using it as a work truck to deliver electric motors, pumps, and everything else they work on. I took a ride in it this morning, and it runs smoother than a gas truck. This is the brainchild of a few smart guys at Topeka Electric Motor. These guys are tuning the shift points for an electric motor to get maximum power and efficiency, programming the controller to perfectly match what the motor needs, and basically making a vehicle that beats the pants off anything the big companies with hundreds of engineers have put out.

Is there an easy way to find a short or open circuit in a car?

I am trying to find a open or short circuit that is on a wire which is in a harness with other wires, on a 1986 Mazda B2000 truck. With so many of you having expertise in electronics, I thought here would be a good place to post my question. Does anyone have any suggestions how to find this open or short-circuit?I am open to the idea of getting a short-circuit-finder. Though I am not sure what features I should look for if I decide to get one. Does anyone have any suggestions?a) Does anyone know if these work well?b) What features should I look for If I get one?c) Do you have any other on a short circuit finder? type, manufacturer, model etcBelow is a link to a site that uses a short circuit finder to find a short circuit, and has information on using one: http://inliners.org/tech/tech6.htmlBelow is a link to a site that tells about how a tone generator is used to find a short circuit, in a home environment (I think this is how most short circuit finders work): http://askville.amazon.com/tone-gene...uestId=5912724I found some links that seem to show that it is possible to make a signal generator and tracer, but the pages with the schematics would not load. A list of tools with links to tools and their schematicshttp://www.qsl.net/kc4gzx/kc4gzx/project20.htmCircuit tracer (neither of these would not load 4-3-09 kept getting message "the Connection was reset."):should have schematic:http://circuitos.tripod.cl/schem/r111.gifand the signal generator:http://circuitos.tripod.cl/schem/r25.gifA little paranoid voice thinks this Instructable has some clues to the solution: How to prevent thefts steal your motorcycle for less than US$ 2 Thank-you in advance,

RC Monster Dump Truck, more or less homemade

Wasnt sure where to post this exactly but here it is... Here are a couple pics of my more or less homemade rc dumpt ruck. The original rc vehicle was a jeep wrangler that got crushed underfoot. The body was a tonka monster dump truck that had been left outside too often and so all the pcbs and wires went bad. Not being one to let good parts go to waste I started piecing this with that and ended up taking....er, making, a Monster Dump (Truck). Its not quite done yet but I couldnt wait to try it out so I tied down what wasnt fastened yet and went to town with it.

Physics question has me stumped

A large crate sits on a pickup truck which has coefficients of friction mu(s) =0.6 and mu(k) =0.4 . My question is how do I calculate the impact velocity if the truck accelerates (-8.0 m/s^2) and the crate slides forward 1.5 m to impact the back of the truck? Can anyone please walk me through this problem whenever you get the chance? Thank you.

Is it economically feasible to create steam powered semi trucks?

Is it possible to create steam powered semi trucks for applications where power is more important than speed? I think that with all our knowledge of steam technology and materials it should be given serious thought especially in light of current problems with fossil fuels. If the fuel of choice were to be, let's say hydrogen, then short range "trains" should be possible. I found this image over at deviantart.com and think it would be a good starting point: http://browse.deviantart.com/?q=gunslinger87#/d2mfjvk

The ultimate urban downhill board

I was wondering if its possible to mount some mountain board brakes to some mountainboard trucks with normal wheels. Hell, you could even use some randall trucks. The reason I'm bringing this up is that in urban conditions you may have a rally nice hill.... that leads right into an intersection. I would love to add these to my latest bomber. Also, can you mount normal wheels on 15" mountain board trucks?Let me know what you guys think.-Butt

Anyone with RV experience? Want a plug-in shop truck

I'm in the process of buying a used ambulance to turn into a shop truck - concept is park it anywhere and use it as a power/air station and tool room. I know ambulances have super beefy alternators and inverters (maybe dedicated generators?) but I'd like to be able to run tools with the engine off - how difficult would it be to have a plug in system like on a RV? Could I just have a standard battery charger built into the frame and plug that in? Thanks for any advice!

Getting sponsors for a Monster Lawn Mower

I am thinking of building a "monster lawn mower" for exhibition use, (parades, local monster truck shows, fairs, etc.) However, I am a high school student, and don't have the cash to do this. I was thinking about getting it sponsored by lawn mower companies, tire companies, websites, or even private investors. Has anyone ever tried building a similar vehicle, or getting a large project sponsored? Let me know your experiences. I am willing to take any help I can get.

Remote Control / Wireless DPDT switch on my truck??

Sirs!I have a 12v diesel transfer pump that I use for veg oil collection. It is the very common Northern Industrial Diesel transfer pump: http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/NTEUnpublishedItem?storeId=6970&langId;=-1&rfno;=508I currently have it hard plumbed one end into the collection tank, and the other end obviously loose to allow for oil collection. I also hardwired it to the battery and grounded it to the frame. I removed the single SPST switch attached to the pump and replaced it with a polarity reversable DPDT switch. This is so after I am done collecting, I can void the contents of the pump and hoses back into the grease bin so as to avoid making a mess. I have also placed the switch on 7 foot leads so I don't have to drop the collection nozzle and go back to the pump to switch it off (Which invariably creates a mess. However, all this wire is a mess to clean up and hard to store. Can I use a DPDT relay or something and somehow make it wireless to a handheld remote? I know zip about RF, Bluetooth, IR, etc, please treat me like I'm dumb. Thanks!Alex

RV plans for sale $45.00

The Wildwood lets the home builder make his own motorhome that looks just like expensive factory-built units. It can be built on cut-off vans, chassis cab trucks, or even pick-up trucks with the bed removed if of suitable capacity. Options on the plans allow for long and short wheelbase units. The floor plan shown is a popular layout used on long wheelbase models, however, you can vary the arrangement considerably to suit your own requirements, as well as to suit shorter units. Our comprehensive plans show how it's done, including simple details and instructions for mounting the coach to the chassis, cab attaching methods for cut-off vans, as well as all the other necessary information to allow you to do a professional job. Plus, full size patterns are provided for the contoured sidewall portions for accurate construction. Best of all, you save a bundle by building your own.Specifications*Coach length overall 20'0"Coach width overall 7'11"Interior length overall 19'8"Interior width overall 7'7"Interior height (headroom) min 6'6"Cabover headroom (deduct for mattress) 30"Fresh water capacity (standard) 30 gallonsHolding tank capacity (standard) 30 gallonsLPG capacity variesCoach weight (dry estimated) 3000 lbs.Sleeping capacity 6 adultsTruck type: Designed for use on chassis cab or cut-off van-type trucks of suitable GVW rating. The Wildwood is designed as illustrated ]for use on so-called "long wheelbase" trucks having a GVW (gross vehicle weight) rating of 9000 lbs. minimum which is reflected in the above specifications. The plans provide details for a shorter option for use on "short wheelbase" trucks which should have a GVW rating of 8000 lbs. minimum. It is possible to vary the plans to suit other truck chassis which may not fall into these classifications, as long as the GVW ratings are of comparable minimums or larger. Since truck chassis are extremely variable, the above specifications should be considered an approximation.

So if you purchased a used ambulance... What would you do with it?

I work at a private ambulance company, and I made friends with the head mechanic and found out he may sell me a used diesel ambulance, fully functioning, for a little more than $1000. In order to justify my purchase, I would need an idea of what I could construct out of the ambulance I would now have in my possession.  My first thought was: A-TEAM VAN REPLICA I would speak with a couple tech colleges and offer them the ambulance for a semester, free of charge, for them to train on. It would be a prime example of the real world of a diesel mechanic's future career. Then go to the same, or a new tech college and find the car detailing or modification department and let them create the projected A-TEAM replica van. I would not only let them use a fully operational vehicle to modify to their liking, I would also use my above average graphic arts skills, and work history in direct mail advertising, to design a mailing to put out for them promoting their school and department of it, and then show awesome before and after pictures of the ambulance, and use it as an attentioN-getter to draw new students into their programs. A-TEAM VAN, with paint mods and maybe diesel engine modifications. ...Or I could mount large speakers in the external cabinets that i could just open up and lock them at 45 degrees, and stand in the middle of the back doors with a microphone and a couple computers mixing dance music. ...The lights and sirens and PA horns are all still in it and working.... I am just trying to drum up some of your creative passions and make you get out your thinking caps to run ideas by me and see what I might be able to do with this new toy! Lets get the ball rolling! I say an A-TEAM van would be sweet... What do you think? See attd, pictures.

Gasifying truck travels 10,000 miles

From the first time he saw Emmett "Doc" Brown fire up the Mr. Fusion home energy reactor in the "Back to the Future" movies, Dave Nichols has always wanted to make a vehicle run on garbage. Two decades after the trilogy, the 42-year-old home builder and auto shop owner from eastern Connecticut isn't traveling through time in a DeLorean, yet. But he's modified his 1989 Ford F150 pickup truck to run on wood, leaves, cardboard and other "biomass" with a fuel system that he says expels virtually no pollution. The technology is called gasification, and it's been around since the 1800s, when it was used for street lamps and cooking. It even powered some vehicles during World War II, but faded away under oil's dominance.Associated Press ArticleRelevant Instructable
