Hi folks! No big deal, just reporting a minor typo: On https://www.instructables.com/contest/extreme/, there is an "R" missing (as of 7:45 PM PST, 2-28-12): "Make sure to tell us in your into step why your project is EXTREME!" So maybe you should look around on the floor by where you typed the description, because that's probably where it fell off of the screen. Hopefully nobody mopped the floor or vacuumed or anything, because it sucks to have to fish through dirty mop water or nasty vac-dust to find such a tiny letter. Cheers! Mike

"You Page"

This is in reference to a typo in the drop down menu at the right side of the header (it shows the user's icon and says "You").  The first option in this dropdown is "You Page", but it seems it should actually be "YouR Page"

A Small Typo in Make It Glow Contest

I was looking at this year's Make it Glow contest page and I noticed a small typo. The little rules blub on the bottom of the right sidebar lists the contest as open until January 16th, 2014 when the official rules and the countdown list the contest as ending the 6th. It's not a big deal, I just thought I would point it out. In case it for some reason matters: OS: Windows 7 Browser: Firefox 24.0 and Chrome 30.0.1599.69 (tried both)

The word 'Instructable' is a typo

So if you've ever typed the word 'Instructable' into a field of text on this site, you know it has that dotted red line under it that indicates it's a typo. It's a small thing, yes, but it would add a modicum of dignity to the word if it was included into the spellcheck's dictionary. Just my two pixels - feel free to call me out for being nit-picky :)

Typo-Squatting (Misspelled Domain Name scams)

Here's a Very interesting article about of of the most common internet problem: Typo-SquattingTypo-squatting is the practice of creating domain names that are often misspelled names for bigger brands. For example: Runescape is a popular free MMORGP (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game). There are sites which names are misspelled versions of Runescape. A few I encountered while playing:RuenscapeRunscapeRiunscapeThese misspelled sites are mainly used for either- online scams- pay by click ads - which feature popular search terms for the original site. The misspelled site gets payed every time someone clicks on one of those.- Spyware and AdwarePopular targets for this practice is google, apple, microsoft,For example, I will demonstrate the case of the iphone:from McAfee:By the end of 2007, at least 8,000 URLs using the word iphone will be registered, according to a well known domain expert. The most valuable iphone.com is owned by Apple itself, but when Steve Jobs announced the product early in 2007, Apple didn't own the iphone domain yet. One expert estimates that Apple paid at least $1 million to buy that piece of valuable Web real estate. Among the 8,000 registered URLs incorporating iphone are community fan sites, rumor and hack sites and, of course, scam sites. Freeappleiphonesnow dot com claims to offer free iPhones and variants that don't even exist (like the iPhone "shuffle" and "nano".) The URL is nothing more than a redirect to royalsweeps dot com . When we tested the site, we received debt consolidation offers, get rich quick solicitations, "free" cell phone prizes and other questionable e-mail. Many of the iphone-related domains are misspellings, or typos. Iohone dot com, for example, was registered on January 9, 2007, the day Apple officially announced the iPhone. In August 2007, the site consisted of pay-per-click ads for iPhone-related Web sites. Microsoft says that on an average day more than 2,000 domain names are registered that contain Microsoft trademark terms.According to the US Government Accounting Office, at least 8.65% of all domain names are registered with false or incomplete Whois information, a practice that makes domain squatting easier. More recently, in September 2007, the managers of the .eu top level domain suspended 10,000 domains registered by a Chinese woman who was accused of being a cyber-squatter. The first two Images are from the domains Freeappleiphonesnow and Iohone The other images are from microsoft dot cm and another website that results in 482 spammy emails a week. The last image is from McAfee

Fixing a Typo?

It was late and I was typing away then I woke up with little sleep and posted my instructable.  Well, I had forgotten I wanted to change the title before I published then I fixed it.  Then my oh so brilliant self had a typo in the title, a helpful user pointed it out and I fixed it.  The problem? https://www.instructables.com/id/Education-Boy-Math-Learing-Tools/ I don't mind that it has the original title so much as I mind the typo, LOL It's not a learing tool it's a learning tool.  Oi!  If anyone can help me out that would be great, if it can't be fixed, well I'm not going to get bent out of shape, it is what it is. Thanks in advance!

How to fix error in title of my instructable?

I recently submitted my first instructable, "Easy But Addicting Garlic & Butter Snack Mix".  Before publishing it I spell-checked it twice and made good and sure that there were no typos or mispellings.  It has now been published, and there is a GREAT BIG TYPO in the title!!!  It appears this way: "Easy But Addicting Garlic & Butter Snack M&hellip".  This is not how it was submitted, and when I click on the entry the title appears just fine; it is only in the main page of Snack Food Contest entries that it appears wrong.  I have submitted 2 emails to the instructables team but keep getting automated responses that are of no help.  I can't seem to fix the problem in "edit" from my account, as it appears to be fine when I view it that way.  How did this happen, and how do I get it corrected?  Help!!

Suggestion: Editing Comments

Hey, I got a suggestion for Instructables: allow comment editing. It just sucks that, if you comment, you notice you made a typo, and thus want to edit it, but the only way by doing so is deleting your old comment, leaving a (removed by author or cumminty request) behind.

Spellcheck feature missing in create instructable title form field

1. What Operating system the device you are using OS X YOSEMITE 10.10.3 2. Browser information including version number, if you're using the mobile app include app version number. CHROME FOR DESKTOP Version 42.0.2311.90 (64-bit) 3. Include what project or url you were looking at when the error occurred My latest submission had typos in the titles. When I went to correct the error I noticed that I had spelled it correctly in the description form fields. This made me wonder how this happened. This is when I realized that the title fields were not spellchecking. This resulted in a typo. https://www.instructables.com/id/Recycle-Combination-Lock-into-Knecklace/ 4. Screen shots of what happened if available. See attached 5. steps to reproduce Step 1 : Simply open an existing Instructable or create a new Instructable Step 2 : Add a new step Step 3 : Add a title incorrectly spelled in my case I typed "Knecklace" Step 4 : Now type the same word in the description field "Knecklace" Step 5 : Note how there is a typo warning in the description but not in the title

editor crashes while parsing invalid html

I think I found a bug that will cause the editor to crash. I had a typo in my HTML tag that I was entering into the source mode editor. The tag looked like blah When I tried to exit the "source code" mode, my browser (Chrome) told me the page had crashed. I tried again, and it crashed again. When I tried again with the tag corrected, it didn't crash.

Does Instructables have a policy or consensus on plagiarism?

I was going through all (yes, all) of the I'bles tagged in the Science category (to help populate the Physics Group) and ran across the following:Build Levitation Device. published by ermak777 on 12 Feb 2008.Build Levitation Device. published by kinofanat on 14 May 2008.The duplication is quite astonishing, right down to the typos in the description of the video. I've flagged the later edition as "Inappropriate", to help staff find it.

Can you win more than one prize?

I'm looking at the protected contest, and I see, "Multiple entries are accepted, but each entrant can only win one prize." Does this mean, if I have 2 entries in this contest and win for both, I would only get one prize? Or, can I only win for one entry? Or, is it a simple typo and should read "Multiple entries are accepted, but each entry can only win one prize." ?

user-hosted knex instructable contest!!!! [Typos fixed!]

Hi everyone, I am a long-time knex gun user and Instructable maker, you probably don't remember me because I am using this new account and my old one has been inactive for years. More to the point, i am going to hold a knex gun instructable contest not run by the site administrators. Because of this, the only reward is fame and glory among the knexers' What you need to do to be in this contest is make an instructable of a knex gun and give the link to it on this forum. You will have to design a gun that you do not cock, has no block trigger, and has a very easy instructable. A few suggestions for this design are listed below. Technical requirements: ~ The gun must have no block trigger ~ The gun must shoot any rod ranging from the smallest size to the second largest [green - red] suggestions for making a far better gun than anyone else: ~ make as many extra / removable components as possible ~ make a hopper or way to have multiple shots at one time in the gun ~ use as few and as simple foreign objects as you can get your hands on ~ Make the gun with less than 250 pieces ~ Make the instructable as good as you can, after all, even if you get the gun, you have to show it here!

Periodic table of condiments

Nope, that isn't a typo. You've heard of the periodic table of elements? Well, check out this hilarious table of condiments that periodically go bad. From Condiment No. 1 (Mayonnaise, which the table says goes bad in 3 months) to Condiment No. 75 (Maraschino, which apparently never goes bad), you can look up just about any condiment you can name to see when you need to toss it out. Or at least when these people think it goes bad.Take it with a grain of salt (Condiment No. 2, it never goes bad!) though-it claims Lemon goes bad in 2 months. Stuff and nonsense. I've eaten 3 month old lemons that were perfectly good.Mendeleev would be so proud...

First Time Author Contest Question? Answered

Hi, random instructables people!!! :D  This is probably a question that is extremely stupid to many people, but I'd like to know the specific guidelines of the First Time Author Contest.  Is it OK to post my first instructable here? Even though I have made more of 'em since then? I like my first instructable and I'd kinda like to show it off again in this contest. I haven't edited anything except maybe a typo... so does that qualify? I don't want to get in trouble for trying to post my instructable. I've definitely posted more than one, so I AM NOT a first time author. Just making things clear... Thanks, Artemis

Can I use the battery charger as a direct power source?

I am making an automatic button presser for my Nikon CoolPix 4800 camera so I can make time lapse videos.  My problem is that I don't have a power adapter for my camera.  If I connect the battery charger directly to the battery slot in the camera, will the camera run safely? There is a jack on the side, but it's a strange jack that I have never seen before.  The jack is listed at 8.4V. The charger has an output of 8.4V and 600mA On the bottom of the camera, it says: 8.4V ---- 0.4A 6V -----0.6A Then, strangely, the rechargable lithium-ion battery says 7.4V, though it could be a typo. So, if I connect the terminals on the battery charger into the terminals in the camera where the battery hooks up, will it run safely? Thanks!

Annoying cursor movement when formatting is used

This bug has probably been documented thoroughly, and nearly every single person who writes an instructable must know it by now. When you use italics or bold (I'm sure there's more) when writing, the moment you backspace it goes to the (most previously written) italicized font and backspaces it instead. When you're still writing the word (or phrase) it goes to the back of the word. For someone who is in the middle of writing a massive instructable documenting nearly everything I know in Microsoft's shell scripting, it's very annoying every time I use italics to distinguish between normal writing and code, only to have to rewrite it after backspacing one of my typos. You can recreate this (assuming it happens for more people than just me) by adding a comment, licking on the rich editor, writing some stuff, write in italics and then backspace. I'm using Google Chrome, and I don't think screenshots would help here. Thanks.

Construction Questions for Oomlout's "How to Make a Three Axis CNC Machine (Cheaply and Easily)"

Apologies if this is in the wrong area, but I am in the middle of constructing Oomlout's CNC machine and was hoping someone could answer my questions. It's not clear when cutting the Top Beam and Bottom Beam if the 1/4" holes are to be through holes or are .125" channels like the other 1/4" channels. From the pictures it looks like the top is a through hole channel, but the bottom couldn't be.  The bottom says "0.000" where the other channels say ".125", so I don't know if that's a typo, I can't figure it out.  Having never built this before and the channels are not yet cut in the shot of the cutout pieces here https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Make-a-Three-Axis-CNC-Machine-Cheaply-and-/step7/Cutout-Pieces/  it's impossible for me to figure out. Getting very eager to finishing this thing, I can't wait to start cutting things! Please help!!! Thanks, Bill M.

Microsoft gives away 1000 song titles away free

Free mp3s (or mp4s if you roll that way ;) ), yay!! I can't remember for the life of me where I first saw this, or I would surely credit the source (lifehacker? gizmodo?), but in any event MS [is giving away 1000 + songs] fo' NO MONEY! You can download them and also listen to them online. What's the catch? Isn't one, just ads on the site. Cool beans.I know. It's Microsoft. I know. Shhhh. I know.But. There's actually some good stuff there! There are some artists you've never heard of in your life, and some more well-known ones (like Lemonhead, to name the only example of a few that I could've thought of ten minutes ago. :-\ ). I love some of the songs I found in their electronica/dance section - I love ((HYDE)) by ORGAVIN and A Foresaken Few (no, that's not a typo) by OC Lovely. There really does seem to be something for everyone, though. Get them here!

Delete button on comments doesn't seem to work

The delete button for comments doesn't seem to be working since your site update (I'm on a Mac using Safari). I'm an incorrigible reviser, so 80% of the time after I post a comment (or instructable, for that matter) and I re-read it I want to revise it. Till now I would just delete the comment and re-write it, but the delete button doesn't work anymore (on a Mac running Safari). And while I'm on this same train of thought, I would love to be able to have the option to make small corrections to my published instructables WITHOUT having my subscribers notified of the changes. If I fix a typo or update a link, I don't want to clutter my subscriber's mailboxes with notifications. Other times though, if I make a substantial update, I appreciate the opportunity to announce it. A "notify subscribers of update" button would be really nice. If you click on it, you can publicize real changes, but if you just fixed poor punctuation you won't be spamming anybody.

LM1857T circuit help? Answered

I have been wanting to build a good amp for a while now and i just got a LM1875T. so i put together this circuit diagram: http://imgur.com/ov3Ikd6 also i am running the audio signal thru an LM386 as a pre-amp/buffer before it hits this. i am using a speaker rated  at "4ohm 80W" and i am using a 30V 2A power supply. my questions: #1 the circuit does not run at all if R2 (22k between pin 1 and ground) is there so i removed it for testing. why is it there if it keeps circuit from working? #2 C8 (100uf capacitor between pin 3 and ground) is reversed? i thought it might have been a typo on the Texas instruments site so i put it normally. nothing happened. so i put it the way they showed it and it worked! but my cap blew 5 min later... (i used a 50v 100uf) so i replaced it with a 200V 147uf capacitor. it started heating up after 1 minute so i disconnected it to come ask. should i use a tantalum 50V capacitor?

Instructables Internship - Day 2

Day two!Today, I would get to meet everyone who didn't show up yesterday. (It was, after all, Presedent's Day) When I got in, I hopped on the computer and started poking at my copy of the database. I know this isn't exicting for most people, but as someone who's worked through and designed a few DB's that never were populated, it was a chance to not only learn style, but play around with a ton of data. You guys are really busy!As I was working hard on my queries, I would continue work on the TV-B-Gone, and talked to Randy some more. Its so awesome meeting and talking to people in real life, and hearing and seeing their projects that are works and progress, some which may never make it to instructables.I couldn't stop laughing at Christy's attire, which has to do with a little project of hers and Eric's, and Mitch's that is going on this week, but you're going to have to wait until they make an instructable!Later in the day, I kept at all my projects, joked around (just a little! I swear!), and eventually finished the TV-B-Gone kit! Later. I was able to test it and it actually worked! I also got to use the laser cutter. I want to try cutting a perforated pattern, like a checkerboard, only *really* small. All and all, today was an awesome day, and I can't wait to get back tomorrow!wow! so excited, I'm making sooo many typos!

Maximum/minimum ampere input in a circuit, help needed.

To start of my question im going to say i don't know a lot of electronics and that I am norwegian( so please excuse typos in english) :) I have not done many major projects inside the field of electronics other than making a lightbulb light up. using a battery and to wires.. But I am very interseted in electonics ad think it is very exiting to read about.  As my first "real" project i decided to make a "lie detector", altough it is mostly just a circuit that measures the resistance in your skin and makes a beeping sound after how much resistance your skin has( Dry skin = low resistance vs wet/sweaty skin = much resistance). AND I DID IT! i made it work, and i was so proud! Then I realized that it was actually kinda lame and the beebing noise was wery annoying. So I decided to make a display that displayed a value after how much resistance your skin held. I managed to make a seven segment display from scratch. But now I am stuck... You see the circuit gives an output of amps so it will output more amps on wet skin than on dry skin. But I have to "program"  the circuit to make the numbers on my display change. I want preferably to be able to do this without any IC's. So my question is there possible to make a circuit that will allow current to pass through one circuit, but if the current is high enough it will take another way? I tried to use diffrent resistors, but I didnt take into count that electricity only takes the road of least resistance no matter..
