I'm getting spam from a new account called "PhysicsSupplier". Given the username and given that all of the comments posted using the account so far have been advertising an eBay account, I think it's a pretty fair to assume that it's an account created to post spam, and not to be a constructive member of a DIY community. So far, it's posted the following message twice on my latest instructable: "Instead of using a wine bottle, may I suggest that you consider using SoCal's " Experimenter's Tube " This is a heavy glass product that can be used for pressure and high vacuum experiments and the cost is low for what you are getting. It comes with a 20 page manual for various experiments and with some slight modifications it can be used for this experiment as well as others. You can obtain the tube by going to ebay and click to listing #'s 380137978058 or 230664743887. Thier website is firstname.lastname@example.org Best of luck." I flagged the comments as spam, but I didn't get any sort of confirmation, and the robot has been giving me some trouble lately, so I decided to post here to get an admin's attention. Thanks! Xellers

Recently my latest "make" I shared here won the honor of being Featured. Thanks by the way. :) I also won a premium service for 3 months as a result. My question is, after it expires, will my account go back to its original state? or will it be frozen? I like to know these things before I go further since I had this happen to me at another site. Also I kind of like my account and it would be disappointing if my current account would get messed up. Thanks. :)

Hello! My pro membership is about to expire, and I looked at my account because I've earned a couple of free memberships, and I wanted to activate them. I see one I got for having a featured instructable or something (3 mos) but I'm pretty sure I won a free 1 yr membership when I won a contest this summer, but I don't see anything in my account about that. Please help? Thanks!

Ok, so I have switched to a different email address than the one I was using when I signed up on Instructables, even changed the email in my account settings to the new one. Yet my Instructables newsletter continues going to the old account. Maybe this is some kind of bug or a part of the system that has some flaw in it, I just dunno.... If you're reading this I hope you are an admin or something of that ilk that can remedy this. ~Peace Be Da Journey Man!!!

Damn site, can't get rid of it. It's sending continuously emails. I even changed email in settings but it keeps sending messages. No "Delete account" button not updating settings...what can I do to get off of it? I do not need all these messages any more in my mail.

I've just pushed out a small set of changes, mostly around the Facebook integration. The Facebook login button isn't so obvious, and we've now got some admin features to handle a case that turns out to happen more than we expected. Here's what it is: Some people have both an Instructables account and a Facebook account. Some of these use different email addresses for each. When a person clicks the Login with Facebook button and approves Instructables with their Facebook account, one of the pieces of information we get is their email address, and we check it against our existing email addresses so as to link the correct account if we find a match. Often there is no match, and in the vast majority of these cases the person doesn't already have an Instructables account. So we make them one, and link it to their Facebook account. However sometimes they do have an Instructables account already, and now all of a sudden they have two! This is confusing and wrong, and we'd been dealing with it in a rather arduous manner involving direct database changes, which is always something to avoid. Now we've got a system for admins to handle this case with just a few clicks. Other than that, there are some bugfixes, for example around character display -- a few of our new Facebook visitors don't use the Latin alphabet! So we handle that a little better now. We have some more sensible default actions for new registrations, and a couple things to help our admins manage contests more easily, which they've been asking for for some time.

Hi Instructables, First and foremost let me say that I do enjoy your site. The entire reason I signed up for a free account in the first place was to be able to view all the steps on one page. As I logged in today, I viewed the comparison of Free vs. Pro, and saw that 'View all steps on one page' is no longer a feature of a free account. This feature is very handy when you want to view the steps quickly and browse through what the project is. Please restore this function to the Free account if possible. That said, I do understand the need to monetize. Don't get me wrong. I just feel that this one benefit for a free account wouldn't be so bad. Thank you for taking the time to read my post. Sincerely, Will Shattuck

The idea of needing to pay to access some features of the site seems to conflict with the nature of the community on this site. After all we are all DIY'ers trying to make quality things for little money. Separating those who can afford to pay for an account from those who come to this site to learn how to be frugal ( because they don't have money to fritter away on things like pro accounts) will only devalue the community. I know the argument of "everything needs to make money some how" does not really stand here as separating the community will eventually lead to reduced following of the web site, decreasing the money available through advertising. Net effect of this is a poor online community that still is not making any real money. My thoughts are that the moderators etc should scrap this new system and protect the Instructables as we know and love it. anyone agree?

Ok i was wonding if it would be possible to change the admin's password using cmd being run as administrator (net user administrator *) then signing in with that account then going to control panel internet options and unblocking it that is my idea but would this be safe and can you even sign in with the admins account on your laptop

Normally I can see my statistics in my control panel. There were some different sections in contrast to image showed. Last days, sometimes I couldn't reach my control panel, today there is nothing to see my statistics . What is the problem, I couldn't get it.

Hi! I'm a new member to Instructables and used to log in using the Facebook account (which now is broken) and now none of the thumbnail pictures I click on will enlarge. I can see the small pictures but when i click on them, nothing happens. Would this be an account-specific bug? Thanks for any help!

I've been using the Ibles app on an Android (V 4.3) phone for a month or two. There's a lot to like about the app experience. For instance, the app makes it super easy to follow other users who are following your account... Super easy to click "follow" on many accounts in one session. I'm not really a social networking person, by choice, so I never paid much attention to following. Never cared about the number of followers--or hits, for that matter. I'm sure this is a breach of social networking etiquette. Guilty. So-- it's a pain to "mass follow" other users in the browser interface (yeah, wouldn't be problem if I'd kept current with following)--go to you:subscribers, click on the account, select follow, move backwards to the you:subscribers page, repeat ad nauseam, with all the load times associated. On the app--load the followers page, then click, click, click on the icon next to each account. Pie easy. But there are some odd app behaviors: One: the app Followers section doesn't sync with the normal online interface. I.E., more followers in the browser online than on the app. Two: the last "follower" in the list doesn't display correctly. Shows as "not followed," when clicking on the user's account shows that I am indeed a follower of that account. Maybe there's a sync lag that would explain this...if so, it last several days.

I want to know what's going on around here, there seems to be some poor managment and judgement going on here. I'm actually getting fairly annoyed, and I know I haven't said anything bad, I even seen many other's saying worse than I have and they are still kicking around. They get away with it because they're "long time members" I actually want my "mr.devious" account unlocked. And I will not stop until it is unlocked. A pm will be sent to ewilhelm aswell. Anyone else want to elaborate?

I find it very annoying seeing people from 2006 who have done nothing but post one or two comments! Ibles should create a way like if youur inavtive for 2 months, you get a warning e-mail, then boom! good-bye, or they change your username to something like dead_account 1 dead_account 2 dead_account 3 Etc. Etc. Authors of ibles, please reply as to WHY you have not done this, thank you Bartboy ( I would be Bartman, but SOMEBODY took that, and they are one of the people I am talking about! )

Is it possible to share my pro account with my spouse, where she has her own saved instructables and log in? For example, at our greeting card website, American Greetings, I can add my spouse and my son (up to 5 household members) to my account with their own login and calendar reminders. With Netflix, we can add each member of the family and we each have our own cue for things we want to watch. If we cannot do this at this time, I would like to recommend this as a future feature to add. My wife and I both enjoy Instructables, but it's silly to pay for 2 accounts when we are sitting together anyway. The ideal situation would be what American Greetings offers, the ability to add my household members under a master account that allows them their own individual login and storage folder. If you create this where any purchases are tied to the master account, it will help reduce fraud as people won't want others using their credit card. I've never asked a question here. I sure hope I get a notice when this is answered and where to find the answer! Thanks for your time and consideration.

Hi, I have uploaded a profile picture to Instructables that is a bit humorous. However, now this picture is spreading across all of my accounts on the internet! I know that the ONLY site to which I uploaded this picture is Instructables. The picture was appropriate for Instructables but is inappropriate for many of my other accounts. Somehow, my image has "escaped" and is being automatically captured by other websites. I am attempting to stop this profile picture from spreading any further. Can you PLEASE let me know how this picture could be spreading across all of my accounts!? Thanks in advance, Nathan.

I have not used this site in quite some time now, but I do have an account. Today as I was viewing the site, I have had to log in over 7 times while reading a single instructable on 4 pages. I keep getting automatically logged out. In one instance of logging back in, I got an error saying that my account was not found?

I made an account with an Ã(oslash) in the name, but now I can't login with it, while I did receive an e-mail in which the account name was spelled right, and the password. If I insert those in the login panel it doesn't work. Is the à decoded in the database or something? Is there a way I can still login? byebye thanks for your answer I really appreciate it I love you

Browser: Firefox OS Win 7 I have a Facebook account and an instructables account. I login into instructables and go to link to Facebook ->a quick popup happens. The app for instructables is created in Facebook. Logout out of instructables. try logging into instructables with Facebook button and nothing happens (i.e. the screen reloads and I'm still not logged in) I have emptied cookies and tried redoing the whole process the result is the same.

As you know, the recession has has hit many industries hard; it's even changing the way the internet functions. While we hoped to provide an excellent service for free under an ad-supported model, it's becoming obvious we'll have to do something different to help our community survive this economic downturn. So, in the next few weeks, we'll be launching Pro Instructables Accounts. The pro account feature set is still slightly in flux, but it will give you access to some of our existing features and some new ones:Private Instructables - share an Instructable with only a small group of peoplePatches - create and send patches to other usersFewer Advertisements - No contextual (Google) ads, or ads from indirect networksPro Users forumPDF versions of Instructables, including more customizable optionsView all steps on one pageAccess to secondary images sizes on an Instructable's step All images are available for freeNo captcha for Private MessagesPro badge on user iconWe have not finalized the pricing, but it will be reasonable, and you will be able to join for periods of one month, one year, or two years. Initially, we'll only accept payment via PayPal. Every user who has registered prior to the release of pro accounts will receive at least 3 free months of access to the existing features we are turning pro. During this period, we hope to convince you that the features are useful enough to pay for.Why we're doing this:Instructables provides a tremendous amount of value to everyone who uses it. Our authors benefit from having a superior documentation tool and an already established and sizable audience; our members benefit from our active community management; and our audience (those who do not currently have accounts) benefit from inspiring, entertaining, and useful content. In consideration of Instructables' value, you currently look at and occasionally buy products from our advertisers. Supporting content with advertising is a wonderful system, but it isn't covering all of our costs, so we're asking you to subscribe to support us and the DIY community. One of the things I've endeavored to create at Instructables is an egalitarian meritocracy. Anyone can post an Instructable and anyone can comment on an Instructable, not just editors and approved writers; we don't highlight our admin accounts or often use them to moderate comments because it's important that the community as a whole enforces the "be nice" policy. In that spirit, we won't be giving away free pro accounts. I, and everyone else who works here, will buy pro accounts for ourselves. This may seem like just an exercise, but with it I hope to make the important point that we value Instructables and we want to support it. Having been an Instructables member for a long period of time, or having the greatest number of pageviews will not entitle you to a pro account. Just like anyone can post an Instructable, anyone can become a pro member, and the price is the same for everyone. If a pro account isn't for you, we'll always offer a free account. The free account maintains the site's core functionality, and is extremely usable: You can follow an Instructable's directions, post pictures of your results in the comments or another Instructable, and enter all of our contests and challenges. We've tried to carefully balance providing free access to the content -- so we can provide a large audience to our authors -- against making some of the more bandwidth-intensive value-adding features available only to pro members. As an author, you'll always retain full access to your own projects, including PDF versions.I often tell people that Instructables is an online magazine. In reality it's so much more than a magazine, but as an active member of the community you already know that. I hope you'll subscribe.

Hey yeah I could have probably put this in a better category but about the only people I care about adding are people from the K'nex section. So is anyone getting Modern Warfare Reflex? I gotta send my wii in for repair which kind of sucks seeing how I know I won't get it back until way after Reflex comes out (though I'll probably be hanging out at my friend's and sister's playing MW2 on their Xboxes) so don't expect an FC anytime soon. I did awesome in WaW. My starting account had about a 1.4 K/D and I never played an online FPS for wii before. My main account after that has a 2.23 and rising. I haven't used it much since starting to snipe and shotgun. My sniping account has an even 2.0 I think last time I checked. I started a shotgunning account right before my wii broke but I don't remember my K/D. I know it was at least over 1.5 and maybe over 2.0. And then I made another account for lolz to see how high I could get my K/D and had somewhere in the 7.0 range. So yeah point is it would be beneficial to add me =P

Okay I live in Poland and I took part in swagbucks.com and earned 749 swagbucks...but then I found out that only US residents can buy stuff from those swagbucks...so I decided to do this! Okay now all you need to do is send me a message with an ebay gift card code (Make sure they gift card code is worth 5$ or more) Then as soon as I receive that I will then message the password and username of the swagbucks account and use the swagbucks to buy something! I have 749 swagbucks...which means with it wou will be able to buy : Amazon 5$ gift cards : 450 swagbucks each Paypal 5$ cash : 700 swagbucks Many other 5 - 20 dollar gift cards You can even buy other stuff and not just gift cards! But they only ship to the US or UK or Canada, but the good thing is that shipping is free! Here is the link to the website : http://swagbucks.com/p/category/17/Gift-Rewards-Cards So go there now and have a look at what all you can get for 700 swagbucks, and if you like it then just send me the gift card code for a 5$ or more ebay gift card and then I will send you the username and password for the account! Thanks in advance!

I've just received an e-mail informing me my (paid for) pro membership has expired and my account has reverted to the regular level, despite having two 3-month free extensions pending. It looks like the free subscription has kicked in as my account hasn't reverted, but the e-mail is misleading. (I believe I'm owed a year's prize membership, but I'll follow that up privately.)

To whom this may concern, an administrator or another customer/user of this site, I have a free account, and i know that i can't do things like download pdf's, though i didn't have a problem going through each page and read online, though now, i'm unable to see the multiple images concerning each section of instruction pertaining to the demonstration of the instructions, My questions is: has the free account been demoted by taking away the image viewing privileges?
