Cut n Paste with Android?

Annoyed with droid. Cut n paste feature...   when pasting, a long press will cause a " paste" icon to pop up... SOMETIMES... but icon will disappear if you press longer than 0.72 second, or thereabout.  Is there a more reliable paste option with android?  It often takes 5 or 6 tries to get that 0.7  plus or minus 0.02 second sweet spot.

Amarino: Arduino and Android!

Take a look: "Normally smartphone events are tightly coupled to your phone device itself. When your cell phone is ringing, your phone speaker plays a ringtone. When you get a new text message, your phone displays it on its screen. Wouldn't it be thrilling to make thoses phone events visible somewhere else, on your wearable, in your living room, on your robot, in your office or where ever you want it to occur? Or would you like to use your smartphone sensors, like the accelerometer, light sensor, compass or your touchscreen to control other devices? 'android meets arduino' is a toolkit, basically consisting of an Android application and an Arduino library which will help you to interface with your phone in a new dimension. You can build your own interfaces almost without any programming experience. " I would love to see what kind of instructables come out of these kinds of projects! Amarino

[Arduino] Problem connection Bluetooth

Hi all, A while ago I got a HC06 bluetooth module. In the beginning everything worked OK, but now some problems have appeared. Pairing in Android works fine, as well as with my laptop. The problem arises when connecting my phone (Google Android 4.2 with Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR) to the device. BlueTooth Serial Controller 16 seems the only working app, but I would like to use my own application, based on the code described here https://www.instructables.com/id/Android-Bluetooth-Control-LED-Part-2/step8/Download/ Also other apps like BlueSerial Beta and Bluetooth ssp pro do not work. Does anyone have a clue how to solve this problem? Many thanks in advance. Regards, Zytro

Instructables APP for Android (on Nexus 7) - All I get is the intro pictures.?

This topic was originally posted in "answers: technology" https://www.instructables.com/answers/Instructables-APP-for-Android-on-Nexus-7-All-I-get/ I was asked to post it to this forum as well. Synopsis of problem: I had just installed the Instructables App on a Nexus 7.  But, all I saw was the four intro pictures "Explore, Share, Make".  Could not get past these and navigate to the site. I have the 2nd generation nexus 7 running android v4.4.2. Tried tapping the screen, resizing, sliding, and nothing. It would just move between the above mentioned images. Discovered if i logged into the instructables site via chrome, and selected the app to display everything afterwards, it worked.  Basically, it would not let me do anything if I initiated the app first. Once I got past my initial login via chrome I could return to app to login, navigate, etc. and the app appears to work fine.

How to install Windows XP IN PLACE OF Android on a phone

I have a Moto E first gen smartphone and a copy of Windows XP lying around, and I was wondering if it would be possible to install XP in place of Android on it. I don't want to run XP on top of Android, I want to erase Android and make XP the only OS on the device. Is this possible? And yes, I know it wouldn't really be useful for anything, it's just for fun.

Bluetooth Arduino+Android Help

Hey everyone, so I cam currently working on a project that is a Android Bluetooth controlled  Door lock with the Arduino. Ive searched a lot online for information on how to setup/config the arduino to my android device (tablet/phone). Ive seen plenty of instructables here on how to do such a thing, but none of them seem to be clear for me. Here is what I am trying to do: Send commands from my Android device to the arduino that will output a signal to an electronic door lock. Im not asking for someone to do this for me, just want some documentation / Beginner Tutorial on what has to be done to communicate the two together via bluetooth. All the help possible would be greatly appreciated! :)

I get the following error: Multiple markers at this line - Syntax error on token "+", delete this token - Syntax error on token(s), misplaced construct(s) On the last line: System.out.println(cpuInfo + memInfo);

SNES controller idea

I thought that it would be a cool idea to stick http://www.amazon.com/MK808-Android-Rockchip-RK3066-Cortex-A9/dp/B009OX22B4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1367876912&sr=8-3&keywords=smart+tv+stick into a SNES controller along with a teensy to automate the buttons. Would this work? I thought this would be cool to play snes9x for android on a TV.

Anyone know how to use their Android Phone as a Bootable USB Drive?

I have a Droid Phone and purchased a 32 GB SD card for it. I would love to be able to stop carrying the Bootable Flash Drive that I use to troubleshoot PC's (and often forget to bring, or leave when I am done) and instead carry a small USB cable that I can attach to my Droid and use that to boot to Yumi. Has anyone figured out how to do this yet?

Upgrading the Charging Capabilities of an Android

I would like to know how difficult it would be to swap out the charging port on an S4 for the new hyper charging ports on the new Droid Turbo. I know there is not a lot of free space with in the cell for mods. And I am assuming that the hyper charger is smaller. That being said the tools for a repair swap out do not seem that difficult to master. What else would be needed to make this project successful, a power converter? Basically I want to see if its possible to take the outdated cells people would normally throw away or trade and mod them into something of desire for a cheaper price. Thank you for your time Instructable Community

ICE or Medical Alert App for Android.

Hi folks. Following some recent life changing events I find myself in the market for a reliable ICE or medical alert app. There are hundreds available & understandably looking at the various web pages they all claim to be brilliant at the job & the best ever of their genre, unfortunately the self promoting reports I have read so far are frankly about much use as a chocolate kettle. I need something that someone has actually used & an honest opinion of its reliability it would be even better if it has been used on a Samsung Galaxy S2 but any info about something that you have experience of would be appreciated. Many thanks in advance. NG.

sensitivity of servo that is controlled via android phone

Good day everyone! just like to ask for an assistance on how to make the motion of the servo motor more sensitive with the tilt of the android phone... our program was to control the tilt of the ball maze board via android phone... our code was also given... we are just wondering if this is just the limitation of the Bluetooth connection... we are using amarino application also for the connection between android phone and bluesmirf... here's the code... #include #include float data[3] = {0}; int intdata[3] = {0}; int i = 1; Servo myservo; Servo myservo2; int pos = 0; // MeetAndroid meetAndroid(); // you can define your own error function to catch messages // where not fuction has been attached for MeetAndroid meetAndroid(error); float previousdata = 0; int elapsedtime = 0; void error(uint8_t flag, uint8_t values) {   Serial.print("ERROR: ");   Serial.print(flag); } void setup() {   Serial.begin(115200); //begin serial link @ 9600bps   // register callback functions, which will be called when an associated event occurs.   // - the first parameter is the name of your function (see below)   // - match the second parameter ('A', 'B', 'a', etc...) with the flag on your Android application   meetAndroid.registerFunction(floatValues, 'A');    myservo.attach(9); //Attach the servo to pin eleven   myservo2.attach(10); } void StopCar() {   myservo.write(90);   myservo2.write(90); } void loop() {   myservo.write(90);   myservo2.write(90);   meetAndroid.receive(); // you need to keep this in your loop() to receive events } void floatValues(byte flag, byte numOfValues) {   // create an array where all event values should be stored   // the number of values attached to this event is given by   // a parameter(numOfValues)     // call the library function to fill the array with values (floats)   meetAndroid.getFloatValues(data);     for (int i=0; i<3;i++)   {     meetAndroid.send(data[i]);//Used for debug purposes   }   if (-10<=data[1]<=10)   {      intdata[1] = int(data[1]); //Cast the X axis float value to int      intdata[1] = intdata[1]+10;      pos = intdata[1]*9;      myservo.write(pos);   }   if (-10<=data[0]<=10)   {     intdata[0] = int(data[0]);     intdata[0] = intdata[0]+10;     pos = intdata[0]*9;     myservo.write(pos);   }   if (previousdata == data[0]) { //If the data's still the same (It should have been changed by the meetAndroid.getFloatValues(data) function)      if ((elapsedtime-millis())>=1000) { //If the car has lost the signal more than 1sec, then stop the car         StopCar();      }    }             }

Tablet with dead battery: buy a new battery or create a dummy battery?

Hi guys, I have an android tablet with a dead battery so it won't turn on (it hangs on boot screen). Like cellphones and smartphone, if I use the tablet with the wall adapter and without the battery won't start. The battery is a 3.7 v, 22.2 Wh (6Ah) type, it's dimensions are 0.45 x 11.3 x 10.5 mm. So I have a choice: I can buy a new battery or create a dummy battery. I've searched ebay, amazon and other site but unluckily seems that I can't find a replacement battery (or find a seller that can ship a similar battery to italy). In the other hand, I don't know how to create a dummy battery. Can you help me with finding a replacement battery or teaching me how to create the dummy battery? Thanks in advance :)

Blue tooth, extra values

When using HC-05 and a bluetooth App to transmit a string like “hello” to an Arduino, I get the reading as * 12|99|99|hello# Any reason why I am getting those initial values before the string hello? How is this extra values getting into the buffer? The code is while (Serial.available()) { char inChar = Serial.read(); inputString += inChar; } Serial.println (inputString); inputString=””;

the mobile version of the instructable website drives me crazy....

I love the instructables website and almost everything works just as it should be... but the mobile version of the site (at least the one for android, i don't know how the iphone version is) is not cool to navigate at all, there seem to be things missing at every end and since the last changes i don't even know how to open the non-mobile-version with my smart phone (a button at the bottom of the page that says "full site" could give you the impression that it would take you to the normal version of the website, but it doesn't....) anymore - before some changes were made at least that was possible. i also have the instructables app, which is totally fine, it is a bit basic but since it is just an app i can live with that. so one could argue that i could just wait a bit until i'm at home with my laptop to enjoy instructables and don't care about the mobile version, but every once in a while i really want to access the site from my smartphone and it keeps on being annoying. so maybe if there would be a way to make the mobile website version better or the normal version easy accesible with a mobile phone it would make my very happy!

Raspberry Pi (or similar) to control LED strip via commands etc?

I'm trying to achieve something which I would imagine isn't all that difficult. Basically, I would like something like a Raspberry Pi to connect to a set of LED strips.  Then via Bluetooth or WiFi I could send a command to turn them off or on from my phone. Thats it. I'd also like the same unit to power a little OLED or LCD screen that displays the time if possible. Does anyone know exactly what kit i'm going to need.  THere seems to be hundreds of different ways of doing this and I've got no idea where to start.

Need help regarding the conversion between keyboard and a controller

Hello everyone I am diy enthusiast and been doing a lot of diys But as of late i got into technical and electrical diys And this one diy got my attention and i somehow stumbled upon a great idea. I guess everyone knows of SmartBoy, i am trying to clone it but with a few adjustments. So basically this is the base video i am making a controller with the ideas from Evan Kale https://youtu.be/g2bgjl43Cm8 But the only thing that i don't understand is how did he connected all the buttons i mean how did he made that circuit and copied it to the foil. Is that a common circuit or is there something included which I don't understand.

Kinda not really a bug but it certainly bugs people....

Hi All, First: great work with the App.  Love the layout and the relative ease I can get around with it.  Works like it's suppose to it seems. Bug:  Videos don't show.  I commented on an 'ible about the lack of explanation on how it works(https://www.instructables.com/id/5-Gallon-Bucket-1HP-1-Human-Power-Front-Load-Cloth/) and then the author replied ot me asking if I'd seen the vid?  Vid? What vid?  So I logged into the site with my browser and lo-and-behold, there was the video in his 'ible!  Wait a sec...is he just pulling a fast one, put the vids up and trying to mess with me....*checks app* nope, vids are definitely not there. So, please....either embed the vids or at least give us the link to them!

I was wondering if I this kiddy android can be replaced to something lightweight - just for the sake of free wifi device (but with no ridiculous system). I'm a total rook when it comes to android re-/installation so I ask politely for your advice. Take care!

Android 4.4.2

Alrighty folks, its been a while since i've been in the instructables community.... I apologize for my absence. Anyways, on to my question. My mother and I both have Samsung Galaxy s3s with android 4.4.2, and I am able to set a new lock pin, change lock type, or even disable mine. She, however, cannot do so on her phone. I've looked myself, and it seems all other options for the lock screen are "grayed out" and unable to be selected. All we want to do is disable the lock screen on her phone. Anybody know why this is happening or what I can do to help her out?

Android and windows 8 Bluetooth

Well here is my problem, I have seen the many awesome things on instructables that you use an app preloaded on an SD card to control an arduino through a Bluetooth module. But I might get the new windows 8 phones and I don't see any windows 8 phone projects. I would assume that I could easily connect to the Bluetooth module and but what about the app.? Does anyone know where I could possibly find a tutorial?  Please help!

Android Mobile App Login trouble

Hello! I have troubles to login in Android app. I correctly logged in in my account through the web browser on my PC. But I can't do that on the mobile app on my cell phone. I checked it several times and I'm sure, I correctly entered email and password in the login form. It's always returns "We can't find that account, or your password didn't match". After several unsuccessful attempts I tried to recover my password through the mobile app. I entered email in the dialog, then app returned me the result: "We don't have that email on file, or an error occurred". The i tried to register new account with my email that I've entered on the previous attempts. The application returned: "Email address is already in use" 1. Android 4.3 on LG Nexus 4 2. Mobile App version 1.1.2 3. N/A 4. N/A 5. Install mobile app and try to login

Cell phone dock

Check it out: I'm a major Android fan. Sure, Mac makes some incredible machines, but I just hate how shut off they are. That's why I love Android. You're able to change the battery if you, you can expand your memory, you can even make your own apps without hoping to gain someone's permission.  However, the one thing that iPhones have over Android phones is the fact that they have the ability to be placed on a dock. My question is, why can't Android phones do this? Now, instead of making docks for these phones, maybe it's possible to use the ones for iPhones that are already there. What if there was a little plastic piece that snaps on to the iPhone dock and has a mini or micro USB male end on the other side? Of course, there are all kinds of sizes and shapes to Android phones, but I'm sure once this piece is perfected, one could make different shaped ones for different phones to fit neatly. Most of you are much smarter than me (or maybe have more ambition), so I'm sure you can figure out how to do this sooner than I can. If you have and idea on how to make this work, good luck and let me know how it turns out. P.S. If you make this and market it, be sure to credit me for the idea, yeah? ;)

Micro controller help

Hi everyone, I'm looking to get into the world of micro controllers but I have no clue how to decide on which one to start with. I have experience programming in VB on almost a daily basis and a class or two a few years ago in Java and C++. I don't anticipate programming being a hurdle. My main goal is to work with using my Android phone to automate certain parts of my life, such as automatically turning off the lights in the house and killing power to devices in "stand by" mode. I see a few books about the ease of combining arduino with android, but the reviews all state that the books assume proficiency in one or the other, meaning it's either targeted to an android programmer who wants to dabble with the arduino or someone who has micro controller knowledge who wants to incorporate the android. I have neither and need something basic for both. Something that starts from the very beginning. How the two connect. How they talk. Are their standard libraries and objects that they use? things like that. This is less a question/answer and more something I'd like to have some discussion on. Feel free to ask any questions if I missed anything. Thanks in advance.
