Running applications.

IF you want to run applications that are not enabled by defult, right-click and select 'run as administrator' that's it. it's that simple. you still can't install anything but you can play most games/ run most apps with this simple trick. Have fun =P

College Application Items ? Answered

I'm a Junior, and I've being thinking (like I should be) about my college apps. I've got good grades; but I know that's not everything to the admissions office. I haven't done much around school for extracurricular, but I'm not sure what I can count for that. I'm really into my church youth program, and I have been for about five years now. We've done a lot as a group; we've gone on mission trips to places like Chattanooga and Baltimore; put on fundraiser productions (plays, dinner theaters, et cetera), taken in foreign exchange students, and general service to the area. The mission trips were more service-based than worship-based. Can I count any of this as "extracurricular" on my apps? Or does it all need to be via the school I go to?

LM3916 Usage and Application

I am new to the world of electronics so I don't have a ton of experience and lets hope my questions isn't a stupid one wasting everyone's time. I started playing with the LM3914 for a VU meter and got it it work somewhat successfully. It was recommended that I not use this chip and go to the LM3016 instead due to its accepting any music emitting device input. 1) I want to drive in excess of the 10 LEDs you can add to the 3916 and 2) I'm looking for a circuit diagram to do it. Does any one have one that can help me out? Also, what else can be done with a 3916? Thanks,

vehicle vinyl application

I'm working on a large project with a deadline, and falling temperatures in the Northeast are influencing my work performance. What I need is a portable, efficient, and safe device and/or method that can quickly heat the outside of a car.I am working with temporary adhesive vinyl panels that are being applied to the entire hood and trunk of New York City taxi cabs. We can only apply these panels for about 2 more weeks, and we are trying to cover as many taxis as possible. The weather, however, has been slowing our progress. When the temperature gets to about 60 degrees F and lower, the panels become very brittle, almost like paper, and lose some of their adhesive properties. Application becomes very difficult. We're able to keep the panels in a heated vehicle, which helps a bit. But the outside of the cars, particularly the trunks, are too cold for a proper application. The hood can be easier if the engine has been running for a bit, because this warms the panel and restores its malleability.Does anyone have any suggestions concerning a fast, efficient, portable, and safe method for heating the coachwork of a vehicle? If you can't meet all of the criteria, the device and/or method must at least be portable. But I'm curious to hear any other suggestions, as well. I've come up with a whole slew of ideas that are plenty fast but are in no way safe. Let's face it, though, they're still fun to think about.Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have faith in the creativity of Instructablers! And think of it this way; your help can contribute to a really excellent project. If anyone would like more info, gardenintransit.org. Rock on.

What's the coolest application for an Autovent?

Autovents are elegant, amazing wax filled pistons that expand when they get warm and contract when they get cold. They are used to automatically open greenhouse windows when they get too hot. I think they could be used in something like a solar tracker or a kinetic sculpture but I've never seen any innovative applications for them. Have you?

Physical button to launch a PC application?

So for an upcoming project I need to make a physical button that when pressed launches an application on my PC. I'm going to need to make quite a few of these, each to launch a different app. Ideally it would not be a keystroke from a keyboard, I saw tutorials on dismembering a keyboard and registering a button press to open an app, but I don't want any interferences so I'm looking to avoid that if I can. I'm going for the most cost effective design, not looking to spend much if it can be helped. Any resources or tips would be much appreciated! Thanks guys!

Video game list and play application? Answered

Hey, guys. I am attempting to make my own console type-device. I need a program, though. It has to be able to list the video games currently installed on a pc and be able to execute them (start playing them from that program.) The program would initialize upon start up of the PC. It would be preferred if it had a nice GUI with cool graphics, but at this point, I'll take what I can get. Oh, and it will either be a Linux or Windows PC, so the program has to run on either one of those OS's. I am pretty sure I will have to write a program at this point, but I hope not. Thanks in advance for the help!

Minecraft Server: Land of Arcania

Land of Arcania The Land or Arcania server is a small, whitelisted community playing on a custom map. The server will be vanilla for the players, but there will be plugins protecting the server spawn, as it took a long time for me to build. There will be 15 slots but we will accept probably a few more than that. Myself and the fellow admins will do our best to play legit and with the other players on the server and help them do projects such as an enderman or blaze farm. A couple rules before going to submit an application... 1) No griefing, this is a friendly community and it doesn't make sense to destroy someone else s work.  2) No stealing, however minor pranks are allowed. Use your best  judgement 3) Obey the admins, we won't ask much but if we need you to test someone, please do it. 4) Please spread out, if you wish to live with a friend that is fine. There is a lot of space in the map, use it. 5) The map has terrain very different from a normal minecraft world, be careful if you die we won't retrieve your things 6) I worked hard to make the world look natural, please keep it like that. No halfway cut down trees. Also, don't build near spawn 7) No climbing on the masts 8) Pvp is allowed. However it is really only meant for fooling around or maybe dueling to see who gets those diamond you two found. 9) Have fun! Probably the most generic rule, but really we didn't make this server to bore you. 10) To prove you read the rules, if you wish to submit an application please include the word caterpillar somewhere in it. 11) NO hacks, x-ray, modded clients or anything that would give you an advantage. To submit an application: Copy/paste the questions into a comment and fill them out. If you have been accepted you will be Pm'ed a message saying the IP. If you have not been accepted, you probably will not hear back. Please answer the question to the best of your ability. IGN {In game name}: Age: How long have you been playing minecraft: Why should I pick you: How could the server benefit from having you on it: Would you help enjoy helping in community projects: Why do you want to play on this server: A brief description of yourself: Note: Those are REAL screenshots of about 1% of the entire map

USB GPS module tracking with custom application? Answered

I am working on getting some data acquisition integrated with a mini Baja car we're working on, and I would like to be able to track position with GPS, and hopefully speed too, but thats secondary to trying to track position. I'm going to mount a tablet netbook in the dash of the vehicle; can I use a USB GPS module, something like this:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=58-179-009&SortField;=0&SummaryType;=0&Pagesize;=10&PurchaseMark;=&SelectedRating;=-1&VideoOnlyMark;=False&VendorMark;=&IsFeedbackTab;=true&Page;=2#scrollFullInfo My main concern is it looks like these are made to work as Sat Navs with Microsoft Streets and Trips.  Instead, is there a way to just obtain the position data directly with custom software and record it either as a spreadsheet or graph, or even just something like a comma separated text file? I don't know anything about programming, so I will be finding a programmer to help me out, but I was wondering if this is the best way to go about this or are there gps modules made for this type of application? Thanks!

Cultivate the Holistic Methodologies of the Database Application Facilitator

One of the things I get inflicted on me more and more frequently as I wander dazedly through the corridors of school management iss the buzzword.Already rife in the corporate version of reality, they're the words that numpties use to fill what should be a contemplative moment, or to cover a chasm of ignorance. It is beginning to look like we are in an increasing syllabocracy - the world is ruled by people who use long words. But, have no fear. I have come across two tools to save your sanity. The first is Buzzword Bingo - every time you visit, it generates a bingo card of buzzwords to be checked off during a meeting. Tell your colleagues, and each take one into the next concept cascade meeting you go to.When you eventually get caught playing, you will possibly need to update your CV. "Computer technician" is so boring - use the Techie Job Title Generator to come up with a more impressive way of entitling your functionality.Via: New Scientist

What is a transistor and what does it do? For application

Where can I find an explanation of what a transistor is/does, so that afterwards I can actually USE said explanation to apply it to building something. As in not just "its got layers and silicon", or "it's like a switch". I mean seriously, I can read the theory behind charge flow and silicon no-charge wells, but it doesn't help me understand how to use one. Ex: I have a problem. I want to come up with a circuit to take care of said problem. I start to sit down and think about what I would need to solve said problem with circuitry, and never a transistor crosses my mind. Why? Because I really don't understand their use in terms of creating solutions. I can solder them all day long in kits and projects, but I didn't come up with the solution for that circuit, I'm just soldering-by-the-dots. I would like to know more about "applied" transistors, not "theoretical" transistors. After all if it "changed the face of electronics as we know it", it's a pretty big hole for me to have in my knowledge base. Thanks! :)

Is there a ceramic extruding head for a 3D printer application?

I have followed the evolution of the 3D printer and I can see its potential as a real tool for home use. Ceramic krafts have been a fairly easy home size cottage kraft for centuries. Now If you had a small kiln and you were able to model Items from house wares to mechanical parts to ceramic molds (ie Cookie or decrotive bread pans or a Ceramic motor block to an Air Motor). I thought if you Cure/ dry it (ceramic paste) as it was extruded on to the model with focused lasers (ready for deburing and then a bisque firing) as in using lasers for curing/ hardening of a polymer mediums. The variety of Ceramic Mediums/ materials that could be used to fuel a boon to the unemployed as a way to make money. Maybe printing out one use molds, to form cores to Graphite products that could be washed out after and have the mold material reused. If there was away for me to follow through with the possibilities. Extruding those oven cured clays, that could stretch its usefullness. I am trying to figure out a way to get out from under the pile and recycle as much as possible and use as many American made parts and electronics as I can. Graphite fiber empreganted ceramic material, is there such a product out there that could be utilized in 3D printed parts? Is there a Market for Products made of these types of materials? So many questions, so many possibilities.

Automatic Bottle Filler, Seal and Capper and Label Applicator.?

HELP!!! OK, I have put together a awesome new group of liquid based products for a variety of uses (being vague bc it's to much to go over now). But before my investor group will commit to stage 3 of funding (stage one was a small infusion for the chemistry and product development, and stage 2 is on my own dime). Now I have 30 days to come up with plans and a protoype assembly line to produce the first 500K in units...it needs to be fully automatic, not semi-automatic...at least for each individual process. I have researched the net and there are alot of semi-auto systems i can fully automate, and the big boy systems are just out of my reach until I get stage 3 funding...i have to produce a min of this much product in an effort to get it on the shelves of the clients we have setup. I need to fill round bottles (2.5 and 4 oz and 12oz), fill flat sided quarts and gallons, and hopefully at some point round and flat sided 3,5,and7 gallon buckets. i know that this can be one machine with different run setups or 3-4 different similar systems. then I need a sealer, basically applies the pressure sensitive seal then heats it and seals it form spilling, tampering etc. then a separate system that screws the cap on finally and importantly applies either the peel and stick pressure sensitive pre-printed labels, or heat transfer label or silk screening... OK before anyone says a thing...i know its very complex, I know it's gonna cost some money, but I do know it can be done DIY style... so your thoughts, input, links to similar parts and pieces or ideas, etc...
