streaming audio between PC's? Answered

i would like to be able to connect my laptop's audio somehow to my PC first i thought i'd just connect the headphone out to the mic in on my PC, but that gives *alot* of interference, altough i do hear my music after that i tried searching for some software that would just stream it to my PC, but all i could find was software to stream to PS3's, stereo's and other stuff so my question is: how can i stream/connect the audio from my laptop to my PC?? edit: solved with a couple of resistors in the cable

Multi-Room Audio System?

I have an idea for a multi-room audio system but am very much stuck with the know how. I have recently found Airfoil which allows you to transmit an audio stream over LAN to other devices, what I would like to do is have audio playing in other rooms through Airfoil Speakers but to do it cheaply, I know that I could just use other PCs and laptops to do it but it is not something I have right now, I do have two very old laptops (circa windows 3.1 & 95) but they lack in .... functionallity. I was thinking of some stripped down computer which could be hooked up to existing amps. What exactly would I need? What are your thoughts, or alternatives?

Any recommendations on how to increase the crappy audio volume on my EEE PC?

Trying to watch streaming TV through my Eee PC while I'm on the road is infuriating because I can't hear the audio even with headphones and the volume cranked all the way to 11. Time/talent aren't on my side so I'm not sure I'd be able to kludge together some of the projects here. Thx, Wudjor

Best way to transmit audio in real time without latency

Hi, I'm working on a project with esp 32 and I would like to know what is the best way to transmit audio (streaming) in real time without latency. Reading, I think the best option is Bluetooth with APTX, but I would like to know if there are modules to do this better than with bluetooth. Thanks you.

Piping audio from mpg321 to PiFmRds

I was working on a little project that turns my Raspberry Pi 2 into a FM transmitter. The goal is to make it completely headless, having it start up immediately on boot, without any external computers or peripherals. Now, I have tried this following command: mpg321 --random /home/pi/music/ -  | sudo /home/pi/PiFmRds/src/pi_fm_rds -freq 95.5 -audio - The first command tells it to randomize and play the music. Then the directory it is in. Then there is the pipe, followed by the command to start PiFmRds, on the frequency of 95.5 FM. And finally, to take in audio from a pipe. DCR-TRV27 Questions? Answered

Okay so first of all, I've had this DCR-TRV27 Videocamera from sony for quite a while. Some things about it though, I still can't figure out. First question: There is this little socket thing on the top of the camera, that I just can't figure out! It looks like I'm supposed to insert some card there, but I just can't get it. Also, the socket thing has a logo on it, I don't know if you can see it, but it's like this "i4". Question 2: How do I take the footage on the TDK Mini DV Digital Video Cassettes, and transfer it to a computer. Question 3: What do the fader and focus/infiniti buttons do? Question 4: How do I use the audio dub feature? Question 5: What does the Exposure button do? Question 5: The lens housing thing spins, but doesn't reach a "stopping point" as in you can keep spinning it, it also doesn't seem to have any effect. Why/what is this?

How do I set up a mobile wifi router (LAN), and a wifi windows machine? Answered

We are a collective of dancers and bicyclists that organize huge bicycle rallies up and down the west coast. There are dozens of bicycle sound systems on these rides, and we seek to send an airplay audio signal to everyone's smartphone with wifi. The software of choice is Airfoil. http://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/  For it to send audio, it needs to be installed on a windows or mac computer (not cell phone or tablet). Smart phones can then receive the audio signal. I need help designing a road worthy wifi router and windows machine to be the moving hub of this wifi broadcasting party. Extra points for durability, signal strength and thrift. Please be detailed, because I am only vaguely knowledgeable of wifi, and I'm not that bright. Please note that I am well versed with other options for sending an audio signal. I have reasons for being this specific. Without your help, I would acquire a used netbook with a solid state drive running windows (maybe about $200), grab a wifi router (I have a few older ones lying around) run it all on an inverter and give it a go. Because I am a mac guy, I don't know how to do anything, like how to set up a local area network.... (I usually jam in a cable from a high-speed modem).... we are not doing that on a bicycle, so I'm a bit fuzzy on that part. I am well versed with power supplies, and willing for the range to be less than ideal at first... (that can be improved later) I am just looking to get a trial of this system up and running. I am most appreciative of your help, and I plan on writing a full article on what I've learned, if successful~ Thanks!!! DIY Wifi Speaker

Hi everyone, I'm not a native english speaker so sorry for my language's level. I'm new on the forum. Watching amazing DIY projects on Instructable make me want to do same things. So my new idea is to use this stuff to make something like Sonos Audio products. 5 independant wifi speakers connected to a wifi network to stream music, and most important to sync sound of a movie streamed on TV. In an other project, i want to create my personnal NAS / Media Center with Plex. In fact i want to create a system, to stream video and sound wirelessly from a Data Server. Is it possible ? My knowledge is not very large so i need your help to improve my skills. Is there a simple way to build a configurable TOSLINK delay?

Some TVs require 3 frames for the interpolation of tweening frames (and then there is also processing overhead time). With frames coming in at 1/24th for film or 1/30 for tv then 2 or 3 frames out of sync can look horrible and add several hundred millisecond delays. The TV's SPDIF is already delayed and works great, but downscales DTS to stereo (I hate you Blu-Ray!). So I need a delay on optical that bypasses the TV to get DTS to work.   I've done some research and found that the following products do a audio delay to help with sync problems with LCD TV (esp 120Hz) and TOSLINK on older receivers that can't add the required lip-sync delay. The consumer level delays are made by: Felston - $250 J.S. Technology (UK company) - £79  Alchemy2 - $400-$450 Primare -£200 Bottom line, what does this take to develop: A TOSLINK receiver and transmitter. A MPU that can receive the serial stream store it in internal memory and read at a configured offset to transmit. Has anyone take up a project like this and be willing to post the intructions here. I hate to buy a new receiver just because of this, that would be wasteful.

How can I create a PPM-generating device whose output can be recorded as audio?

Dear Community,          In the late 80s and early 90s, the whole Teddy Ruxpin craze took off, and there were many spin-offs on this.  The basic idea was that the toy had a cassette player where one channel was directed to an audio circuit in the usual way, and the other channel had animation synchronization code directed to some sort of receiving circuit which controlled motors to make the mouth and eyes move so it would appear to be telling a story or singing a song.  My favorite instance of this (which I had as a child), is the Ideal Big Bird Storymagic based on the famous Sesame Street character.  There were so-called "satellite toys", Cookie Monster and Oscar which connected to Big Bird via a special patch cord, and they talked along and helped Big Bird tell the story.  I never had those though.  Different fans tell me that the animation sync code is Pulse-position modulation, the same code used over radio waves to guide remote controlled cars and helicopters.  I'm not sure if this is true or not.  I've looked at it in a waveform editor, and there appears to be some amplitude modulation going on here too.  (Please see below).  The highlighted (white) section is the span of two words.  The right (lower) channel shows the voice speaking these two words, and the left (upper) channel shows what happens to the code (which really sounds like a fax machine) as he moves his jaw down, up, and down again in time with the words.  Is this PPM, and if not, what is it? Now that I'm in my mid 20s, and I work with young children, I found one of these Ideal Big Birds on Ebay in great working order.   I'm wondering if it's possible to try to re-create what the manufacturers used to create this sync code in the first place.  Sesame Street created many nice "regular" story / music tapes with Big Bird as the central character.  I thought it might be cool to take some of these (especially the Follow That Bird soundtrack) and add the sync to make my own sort of unofficial storymagic tape (just for fun, and for my students, not to sel or share, as this would be a copyright issue).      I'm wondering if some sort of 1KHz oscillator-like device could be built that has levers of some kind, which could be routed through a DAW or a mixer, which would allow one to perform along with a program, and place the appropriate modulation envelopes into the stream of PPM to place the movements?  I think there are at least two kinds of modulation in the code; that for the beak, and for the eyes.  There must be other kinds of modulation for Cookie Monster and for Oscar.  If something like this seems practical and feasible, I'd enjoy learning about it, just for the fun of it.  If it is possible, I am also wondering how or where I could have it built, and for what sort of budget, as I am far better with my ears than with the soldering iron.  I have tried and tried, to no avail, to find someone in the “talking toys” community who knows how this was originally created.  Let me know if you'd like me to send you a clip of the audio file.  Here's a link to someone else's on Youtube so that you can see what I'm talking about.  Thank you so much for taking the time to read all of this senseless ramble!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxCnmao8FAs Thanks a ton for any insights that you have!!!  I apologize in advance for the inherent nutty-ness of this post! ;)  Sincerely, Jessica

Can I tap into these audio circuits by desoldering Op-Amps and putting wires in their place? Answered

In my continuing quest to make an under-cabinet kitchen radio (see Chapter 1, Chapter 2, and Chapter 3), I'm looking at the original PCB for the boombox I'm hacking. Based on the work of three predecessors (Convert a radio tape player..., How To Make A Audio... and Play and Recharge Ipod...) I'm looking at ways to bring in audio from two sources.  I'm putting in a CD-ROM drive to be my CD player, and I'm adding a headphone jack for my BlackBerry so I can listen to MP3s, Pandora, and streaming radio. It appears that there are two ICs that act as preamps in the boombox, one for the CD portion, and one for the cassette.  See the pictures for where they are located on the board.  Photos 3 and 4 are pinouts for these ICs as found online. I want to remove the BA4558 and solder in a connecting cable for the audio out from the back of the CD-ROM: Left to OUT1 on the board, Right to OUT2, and ground to VEE. Likewise, I want to remove the BA3308 and solder in a cable with a male 1/8" headphone jack to plug into the BlackBerry.  Left to OUTPUT1, Right to OUTPUT2, and ground to GND. Then I'll be able to switch the selector from the boombox to CD and play CDs, and to Cassette and listen to the 'Berry. Will this work?  What are the likely pitfalls?

What is a good chip (IC) for audio switching to more than 2 inputs/outputs?

I'm attempting to make my own multi-room audio system. I realize there are paid systems out there, but they get really costly when you go beyond 2-3 rooms. And I'm doing it the old fashioned way of running all the wires to and from one place. The catch is I want to be able to do the switching remotely, ie no buttons or manual switches. I can set up something to send the signals to do the switching, my problem is I'm not sure what is the best way to handle the switching of the audio signals? I've read on a few sites that you can't just use any IC for audio signals. But the ones they recommend are only for 2 way splitting and I obviously need more than that. The plan is to have 8 inputs and 8 outputs. Only one input can be connected to an output at any time, but it also needs to be able to connect to more than one output (up to all 8) at the same time. And be able to handle other inputs being active and going to other outputs at the same time. Ie I'm listening to music in 3 rooms, and my wife is listening to different music in another at the same time. I go into another room and switch my music to the new room, without interrupting or interfering with what my wife is listening to. The IC used in this guide seems like a good starting point, but I need something a bit more advanced. I know there's gotta be a better IC out there for doing what I want, I just don't know enough about electronics to know where to begin? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Wireless, wi-fi, streaming, etc. is out of the question because I have yet to see a system that 100% of the time does not have a delay between 2 or more outputs. Hence why I am running wires. FYI I know basic electronics like what things are and I'm not afraid of soldering. And ofcourse I do plan to put my finished product up here as there is a lack of any mult-room audio projects.

Noise in Amp from LED Strip & servo

Hi, I am working on a project in which TL072 is amplifying an audio signal which is going to speakers & arduino analog input. Amp is powered by a wall wart with 12V 2A output. The same 12V is also regulated to 5V and used to power an AVR. The AVR is being used to PWM, using a power transistor(TIP120), an LED strip taking 1A from the same 12V supply. There  1) Now the rapid switching of current for LED strip is messing up the amplifier output. It's working fine with LED Strip off but when using PWM, there is a high frequency noise in the amplifier output. I have a 0.1uF and 10uF caps near power inputs for both AVR and amplifier. This is probably due to insufficient decoupling. Can someone please help me make it better? 2) There is another independent source of noise I'm finding which I'm unable to explain. The audio is going into Arduino which is controlling a servo as well. As soon as the servo is connected, there is a constant loud noise in amplifier output. This remains even after powering the arduino and servo using seperate USB supply(only ground connected). I placed audio setup and servo data wire far apart since they may be interfering due to PWM used for servo, but it wasn't of any use. Since in both cases, amplifier is producing noise, I think my amplifier diagram might be at fault. If I remove the amplifier, the audio stream reaches arduino without any noise . Use Output as Input

Hi ! I have this program, Finale 2005b. I've searched everywhere, and I cannot find any way to export the music I produce in there as a real audio file (NOT a midi). So, to achieve this, I have decided to record the output as the input... using Audacity , actually. To do so, I used a simple mono cable to go from my headphone to mic plugs, and set the volume to the minimum... to avoid too much amplitude going in. Now, for the use I want it, this method is way too dodgy (plenty of interference, specially each time I move the cable 1 mm...) I'm pretty sure there is some program or solution to directly map the stream around... I don't have much funds, so free would be good, and btw I work on Win32. Thanks

Camera Suggestion

I do ALOT of youtube videos, but I also need still good quality still pictures and my camera just died. I have a budget of around $400.00 and need something that takes HD video I would like something that either has an external mic jack or takes good audio, my subscribers complain of a high pitched whistle in my current videos (I cannot hear it) It would also be nice if it could be set up to stream directly to a computer, as I would like to record classes, and some of them are 8-12 hours. If the Contour +2 took still pictures I would compromise on the picture aspect because I shoot a lot of outdoor action stuff, and a waterproof helmet cam would be nice.  Right now I use a Nikon S8000, and liked it, but it just wasn't durable (plus the sound issues) I know I am asking a lot, and will have to compromise something, but I cannot go over $400-$500 budget. Please recommend something you think would work

How can I mod a head-set type microphone into a omnidirectional microphone to pick up many voices in a room. Answered

The mic will be used to pick up audio from numerous people through out a living room, and transmitted streaming via an XBOX 360 controller.  I am also trying to use existing materials, in addition this will later be built into a true instructable.   Any pointers would be awesome, I even toyed with the idea of making it into a parabolic mike and pointing it at the ceiling to pick up sounds through out the room.  Currently the microphone has an area where the sound is obviously designed to be picked up only from the speakers mouth.  Good news is its easy to take the headset apart, its screwed rather then glued together.  The Bad news, all the wiring is ultra thin enamel coated, so very evil to solder, well for me anyhow.  I have included a picture of the actual headset.  The ear-phones will be redirected to amplified speakers and the 2.5mm jack has to remain to hook up to the controller.  This is not because it is some special jack, just trying to make it appear stock when I'm done.  Any help would be awesome, and credit will be given of course, thanks in advance.

Laptop wont play video smoothly, I've tried everything I can think of!?

I've got a compaq cq50-139wm laptop. It's single core cpu, 2 gig ram, intel centrino, intel express chipset 4 integrated graphics, I don't know exactly all what is the important factor here. See this page, it lists more specs:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01600619 I factory reset it using the recovery manager, took off all the bloat programs, nothing seems to be maxed out, (cpu, ram) we have 50 mbps internet, the laptop just not only cant stream video smoothly, it can't even play video smoothly. If I try to play a dvd or any type of video file using any video player, it just doesnt work, the video is still still choppy. Audio is fine. The laptop has windows vista home basic, I checked and microsoft auto update says the graphics drivers are up to date. I tied adding Service packs 1 and 2 but that didn't solve the issue.  I just dont even know what else I could try. Suggestions? Other than the video issue the laptop works quite well.

how do i add RCA inputs to my portable dvd player?

Hi After moving i unearthed my old, but very big screened, portable dvd player. It used a Li-Po battery which is lost and has been flat for 4-6 years, so its unlikely to work anymore, and even so, i no longer need it. What i do now need is an LCD reverse parking monitor. I have everything but an LCD with RCA inputs, so i figure, why not repurpose my DVD player. I need to know,  how would i go about locating the correct area in the circuit to connect the RCA input? I know how to follow tracks, im just not sure what it is im looking for, My first thought was, follow the RCA outputs, and hope that at some point it leads to where the DVD player is producing the RCA that goes both to the output jack, and also to another processor/ encoder/ decoder which then feeds the data stream to the LCD, and all i need to do is sever the original RCA track and use my own, however before i do anything, i want a second opinion, as well as also finding out if my logic is sound. If infact the datastream from the dvd reader is being turned into a decoded datastream for the LCD in the same place that also creates the RCA output, then this wont work, as there is nowhere to put the inputs. In this case, how would i go about getting my video output to display on the LCD? how would i go about locating a decoder and conecting it up and ect,  just video anyway, for the time being i dont need audio, also the audio track is easy enough to manually hijack anyway. This is a situation where i would rather spend an excessive amount of effort in getting it to work rather than buying a display. Thanks

Creating a Local Network One transmitter, Multiple Receiver Application (Local Network Radio App)

Alright, So here goes(Hope this is the correct category): THE STORY I attend a Hungarian conference event held every year along with some of my relatives, family, and bunch of other people i know. The issue is, is that some of the Hungarians who attend this conference do not know the language very well, and require a translator. Our "group" per se, does not yet have wireless transmitter/receiver setup yet, and are looking for a solution for being able to broadcast the English translation to all who need it, without disturbing the actual event. So i began to think. While i was listening to a digital radio station on my mobile device, i asked myself, "What does everybody already have?" Then i realized: A mobile device. I then began to think, "Could i harness the power of these peoples devices, and use them as receivers?" Then the idea grew, and now i am left with this: THE IDEA My idea is to create an application which gives the ability for someone with a mobile device to broadcast audio to other mobile devices with the app also installed that are connected to either the local network (Preferred) or to the internet in general. What i was thinking, is to have the broadcasting device work as a wireless hotspot that doesn't necessarily provide internet, but instead streams the live audio to any other device connected to the broadcasted network, with the app installed. This way, anyone who needs a translation of whatever is being spoken can simply plug in a set of earbuds (And if someone doesn't have a mobile device, use an audio splitter) into their mobile device, and listen to the translator, who is using the mic on his mobile device to speak the translated version of whatever is being spoken. With this, nothing but software and mobile devices (Which everyone already carries around) Is needed. (The conference is held in a different location every year in order to make it suitable for everyone distance-wise.) Think of it as a local network digital radio app. The Translator is the radio station, and the people who need translation are the listeners/radios. THE PROBLEM The problem is, I know near to nothing about creating mobile apps for Android or Apple (Yet.). I know loads about Android, i work with it more than i do with Windows/Linux/Mac/Chrome. I have flashed roms, read into the OS, and done a few other things, but know nothing about building my own APK. Same goes with Apple, except i almost never worked with the OS entirely. THE SOLUTION/ANSWER What i would need, is help from people who have built apps, who know what they are doing, and have done similar things of such category. My free time is limited, and so i can't always be working on it. Nor is this project mandatory, i would simply like it to work efficiently by next year. I would be willing, and would love to learn how to build and design apps, so long as someone is willing to answer my questions. I don't plan on profiting off of this, so don't expect payment. (Maybe a donations page if this all works out, and other people start using the app?)  The idea is still just an idea, however i would love to go through with it and actually have an app of such created. Any constructive criticism is appreciated, and if i happened to do something wrong, please notify so i can correct it. If you have any questions, or are willing to help, please do reply!

Anyone know what this is?

I just got hooked up with digital tv today, and www.wegener.com/PRODUCTS/STREAMING_MEDIA_DECODERS/SMD_515.php these are what they gave me for set top boxes. Little IPTV streaming boxes. I noticed there was a spare led labeled HD on the front, and upon further inspection, I found a ide connector and a power connector for a 3.5 inch hard disk. Normally my isp would want me to rent a different receiver for PVR functions, and additionally a lot more per reciever. This box can use a hard drive, but when I put one in, nothing happens when I plug it back in. Now apparently, from what I've read, my isp might have installed their own firmware onto the boxes, but I do not think that is the case, the menus look like the one's I've seen online. I expected for there to be an extra option pop up in the menu when I powered it on with a hard drive installed, but that was not the case... is it the format? I have a 40 gig in there (for a tester) formatted as fat32. What am I doing wrong here?? Oh yeah, and theres a screenshot I got off my tuner card, it only shows this "boot" screen when you unplug the power and plug it back in, otherwise when you switch it off, it seems to go into a "Soft-off" mode, and the hard disk I noticed also continues to spin after it's been turned off... I don't like that :S Anyways, I can't find anything online, so much as a quick reference manual on wegener's website, but it didn't provide anything useful, it vaguely mentioned the recording function, but nothing of installing a hard disk or setting it up. I assume there should be SOME kind of menu/setup I can get into to setup the hard drive/view more options other than the audio format and some other minor options I can currently see like menu appearance. I'm super fascinated to see if I can get a hard drive actually functioning on here, like the remote even has a record button on it, so obviously it was meant to be a pvr, just they expect you to pay them out the nose for them to put one in for you.

Building: wireless monitor/tablet recycling old laptop parts

Please be positive and constructive with your questions and comments.Building wireless touchscreen ar1100 to bluetooth transmitte by Fearlessleader on Tue Mar 20, 2018 5:04 am Hi I have 15.4 samsung laptop screen I am converting to 4 wire touch overlay and want to us the ar1100 but need to go from the usb out bluetooth wireless mouse transmitter. I would need the same type of transmitter like any bluetooth mouse would have inside. I could test the whole set up but would have run 1 usb cable, but that's a deal breaker for full wireless... If I had a old bluetooth mouse and knew how take its transmitter out, that work but a bluetooth usb adapter the would plug in the ar1100 board would be the thing I need.If someone would know how to remove the mouse transmitter and wire it to male usb plug I would be happy to buy it. I real want this to made from as much recycled parts as possible.I just don't want to have run a usb cable from ar1100 to the pc.I don't think the same usb dongle that's used to the pc is the same as the one used in every bluetooth mouse or keyboard. If we look up then seeing the moon is the most normal thing to us there is in the sky.But did you ever wonder how it actually got there? ;)Theories are out there by the lot, including those from real scientists.One of the most common is that it all started by catching the thing and that all was perfect at the time.Over time the orbit then stabilized.Other theories include that formed when our planet formed..What they all lack is what is common and true for all other moond out there: These rotate.According to science an object the size of our moon would need to rotate to maintain a stable orbit.No one told this to our moon, so it just stays in a stable orbit anyway.The only other accepted theory, that funny enough never mentioned OUR moon, is that the center of mass must be facing the orbiting planet.Now theories can run and wild if you let schientifically people loose on a subject.Official NASA data obtained by monitoring equippment on the moon supports the theory of the center of gravity.You see, sesmometers recorded "moon quakes" but also the impact of burnt rocket stages - the later were dropped on purpose.At first everyone agreed the equippment must be faulty but going through it again and again confirmed all works fine.So what got them so exited that was never officially made public?You see, every thing with suffient mass will create a sesmic shock on impact.On earth we can located the source of an earthquake or even explosion quite accurately.Same happened on the moon only with one difference to earth.Every impact caused a ringing effect.Like a bell, the soundwaves and shockwaves traveled through the moon for very long times.An early explanation was that the moon is made from really hard rock or that it might even have a metal core.This was rendered useless once the actual mass was calculated and it turned out the moon would rip us apart while spinning around us.The term "hollow moon" was born.Another interesting thing happens when you try to track down what equippment was left on the moon during which specific mission.Everything up there must have been installed at some stage.For some things though it seems there is no record when or where exactly something was left up there.Then there is the thing with the interviews...If you check the fuzz about the first moon landing then back then you couldn't help yourself but got exited as well.None of the three astronauts however appeared to be at least a little bit exited about going where no man has gone before.Somehow like visiting Iceland for the first time only to realise someone was there before you already.But it was the moon, not some easy to reach island...And while up there we did not see any exitement either, like fully staged and planned ahead.Like a not so 100% school rehersal.Claims that it was a fake and actually filmed in some studio have been verified to be false - they really were up there.After they came back two went silent and refused any interviews about the moon.All three though never spoke about anything we did not see on "live TV"...All the missing segments, the drop outs, the silence during communications...The money...Apart from the Pentagon making a disappearing act of 6Billion US, the already planned and staged moon missions were cancelled with no valid reason at all.One mission already ready to go to the launch pad, crew fully trained and briefed.Two more ready for final assembly.Official reason back then was "We have been there, it is time to explore new things."Almost the same statement was made by Obama a few weeks after he claimed "We will go up there again!".If you take away the costs for the abandoned missions then the money blown up to the moon has a huge difference to what can be tracked back.The lost sum equals out to about 8 more moon missions plus tons of state of the art equippment (back at the time it was state of the art).If you add what the Pentagon lost we are close to 15 more missions.The now...A few years back a lot of previously declared top secret documents have been released to the public.What was a good idea however turned out to be a bit too much.Quite a few documents were included that provide missing links to "incidents, missions, money spent"...Within these piles were documents indicating that space missions of the same extend as the much later moon missions were made.Same rockets, similar crafts, same requirements for water, food and oxygen, some though with just payloads of oxygen and water.Mind you though the documents speak from proposed options and not planned missions.And none of them had any exploration within it, just deliveries if you don't mind the comparison.Those documents about the ringing of the moon and how this would impact on the things we assumed to know about the moon were in there as well.What is really interesting though is what came back from the moon.None of it actually indicate that there is suffient ressources up there to justify mining.Funny enough exactly is planned on a military style.Seems fair enough considering the military can provide the best people for such a hard job.Some normal miner might have no problems getting under ground every day but knowing he is on the moon and might never make it back is another.With all the probing done that we know of you would assume the planned mining operations would be in an area rich in minerals, metals or at least something to generate fuel or oxygen.But no, it is planned to happen "on the dark side" and in an area that appearently was never explored in other ways then taking a few blurry pics while flying around the moon.However, both Russia and China claim to have been very close to this area long before details about the mining became public.And that brings us back to the past and what astromauts stated or to be precise refused to confirm or deny.In some videos we can see movements in the background.In several adio stream we hear the comments to what happens in the videos.If there is light moving around then it does not matter that is blue.You just wonder what it is and where it might have come from.Imagine the surprise if then in other videos you hear things like that the lights are back or that steam comes out of the moon like a gysir.There were official explanations for the first sightings made by the normal people when watching those videos on the NASA websites.Soon after the videos disappeared from the servers.Copies were made by the curious and quite a few videos were identified later to have contained "sightings" as well.Some even show what appears to flying machines with great manouverbilities.And if you take the high point of the happenings then it is also the same time when it was decided that we actually have no real interest in the moon.Astromauts later denied to have ever made any comments like that they are being followed or "escorted" by another craft.And the same Astromauts many years later still refuse to deny or confirm that what we could see and hear during their mission videos actually happened.Don't get me wrong but if the deny it then it just means we all saw some refections or such things.If the confirm it then we know something was out there with them.Doing neither usually means what we saw is ture enough to deny any knowledge about more details.Why then the sudden interest?Trump wants to get up there, military mining, private companies not to forget China.If there is nothing at all up there then why would they all spent money that could provide a much better living for those with low incomes?Even if it would be just for new schools and hospitals the money would be better spent if we trust the official claims about what is up there.The not so official claims....We already know NASA does not want to come with an official explanation why the moon sounds and reacts as if it would be hollow.Same for any video, audio or picture evidence indication there is sturctures on the moon or activities.Here is some of things that other people of great knowledge and with nice degrees under the belt say could, might or even is true about the moon.1. We have no evidence that the moon was always there, only what we have in record throughout history.Some claim the moon would be an artificially created structure.Indications of techonlogically highly advanced civilisations before us are there.And mining out a tiny planet and placing it in earths orbit is not far fetched if you consider higher technology levels than what we currently (officially) have.2. The satellite claim.Like the Death Star our moon could be an artifical satellite placed there for a purpose.What speaks for that theory is the impact craters on the moon.If it was never spinning or better rotating around all axis then a lot them would have been impossible.A crater always shows to some extend the direction of the impact.And on the moon they all apear to be direct and straight hits only.And even at some proper angle that against physics did not create a corresponding crater: Our plant would have been in the way.Officially it is claimed though that there would not be much of a directional crater because of the missing atmosphere and all debris settling evenly.Debris however does not explain the deformation from an impact at an angle.The satellite claim would also explain the missing depth in the craters.By the size of the bigger ones the crater should be much deeper and as said show some direction.If however the rocky surface landed there over time or is just the remaining natural hull then the craters could no go deeper.No advanced civilisation would design a stationary satellite that get a hole as soon as some big space rock hits it...3. Undocumented missions.If claims are true then we have been up there a lot more times than what our history lessons tell us.Tiny probes to analyse things, send data and so on are a thing not the the USA did.If you explain the reason for collecting seismic data by wanting to document an impact of an astroid then it is a joke.Sure it would be possible but what could we learn from the data?Nothing unless you consider that in some unoffial missions drilling was attempted on the moon.Sample collection to evaluate what is in the ground of use for future missions.Some documents now claim that all these attempts ended prematurely.Drills failed or broke, drill heads failed to go deeper and upon inspection were totally worn out.And all seemed to have happend at around the same depth.Although there is no atmosphere on the moon - if you stand on it you would be able to feel vibrations of the surface.Something astronauts would have felt during the drilling.And you can feel the difference between a vibration ending by stoping the drill and one that keeps going for a long time after...The dark side is visible in quite a few school books.Looks like the front with the brightness corrected just with different craters.Ever bothered to scan these pictures in and use some software to find matches to craters on the front of the moon ? ;)Anyways, those images show us the moon as near perfect sphere.What they don't show is how the images were actually made.They certainly did not use massive search lights from orbit to provide light for cameras.Means other sources were used, like IR, Radar, Microwaves and so on.Like we found the ruins of old civilisations by using satellites that can "see" through the forest and soil.And with that it would certainly be impossible to create such a nice and detailed image like we get from the front side.If some is edited, then why not all of it...And if all those missions we don't really know about also landed on the dark side it would explain a lot of things.All sightings seem to have disappeared to the dark side.And all leaked informations about previous missions before our first landing idicate the interest in the dark side was actually huge.They all ended though with one mission report claiming to have spotted lights on the dark side.Moving and stationary and when trying to get a better look by adjusting the orbit for the next round those lights were all gone.But audio recording indicate that from that moment on the astronauts were no longer alone and followed until turning back to earth.Several attempts seem to have been made to land near sightings on the dark side.Those where the astronauts returned home the never were the same again.Documents claim long treatment in mental facilites or suicide.The official missions appearntly started with the backstory of exploring.Some now claim it was attempt for a peaceful presence that still was not tolerated.4. Stories from involved companies.Even if NASA builds a craft themself they still need the corresponding supplies.And for a lot of things they are made outside by independent companies and contractors.Trying to track down early space mission again seems to confirm all claims about previous missions.The amount of materials provided would otherwise mean NASA actually crashed the majority of things right after take off without anyone noticing.5. Launches...So far all claims about previous moon missions or just secret ones were denied.I call this "plausible deniability".In all statements it is refered to the official launch sites.Things like being in public view and so on.What is not that commonly known is that there were a lot of capable launch sites available.After all big rockets have been tested in secrecy since we had the first.The claimed landing of the chinese started a big conundrum.At first the US claimed it never happened because there was no rocket that went up.Images prived by the chinese however clearly indicated the opposite.Not much later it was noticed that a few launches might have been misinterpreted as missle tests....What does that really mean?Quite simple: The surveillance is not perfect if the other side insists that it happened.The plausible deniablity is gone.If the US was "forced" to confrim they actually noticed the launches then it also means the chinese claims about the US doing the same could be true as well.And wasn't it a very important thing during the cold war to know when, where and why the other side launched anything?The silent agreement not to go up there again was broken many times...And although most if not all of these mission ended in orbit only it makes you wonder.What would be big deal even if all claims and conspiracies would be true?A hollow moon would defy what we know about how the universe works.With that it would also contradict some of solid laws of physics.So we need(ed) proof.Assuming we had that for a long time already then it leaves the big question of why it is hollow.Natural or artificial.Nothing natural would make sense so we investigate further.And if people still claim that they can use their little equippment to every now and then hear transmissions from the moon...Sure some things up there transmit data all the time but they do so on common frequencies and not in a range that is and never was used for long distance communications.The interest in the mon came back with our modern technology.We have watches with more computer power than what was used for the old moon missions.Materials and manufacturing methods that provide much safe crafts and space suits with a fraction of the weight of old designs.And we have new means of taking more or less limited energy up with us...We are prepared so to say.No matter what really is up there, no matter if it natural or artificial, just the fact that the moon is hollow changes our views on a lot of things....What do you think would be the best explanation for the data showing the moon rings like a bell?

Tracking down the speed problems on a laptop.

I've copied the conversation here so we could remove the information from the original instructable's comments.  I figure this would also be of some interest to other forum viewers who may have similar problems, or may be able to chip in. The long and short of it is, 92033 (Ed) has a refurbished laptop that takes literal hours to run a YouTube video on.  I suspect that it's due to a bottleneck with his internet connection.  Here's the conversation thus far: ---------------------------------------------------------------- 92033 (Ed): Thank you kindly for your prompt reply...appreciate it very much. The guy I talked to suggested I get "PC TUNEUP 2.0" which bypasses the Windows Operating System (I'm using Windows XP Pro) and speeds up the system. I gave it a try and ordered the CD (cost $39.98 - $44.77 postpaid). It hasn't arrived yet but will let you know if it helps as he claims it will. He said that if I just ordered a 1gb memory chip my system wouldn't notice much improvement as it is, but this CD should do the trick. THEN...when I DO order the Memory chip(s) to get total of 2gb my system should zip through like a rocket with the CD just ordered. I'll let you know when I get the CD and about the results. (I work on computers for a living.) PC Tune-Up does nothing more than clean up registries, defragment harddrives (if your OS even needs it, some don't) and keeps drivers up to date (which you could do manually.) That guy's an idiot, or just a liar. Could be both. Unless you were buying PC Tuneup 2.0 from Tiger Direct, in which case we can add "sleazy salesman" to that. What are the specs of the laptop? Go to Start/Run and type in DXDIAG. This will give you a quick snapshot of the specs. Specifically, I'm curious as to the processor speed/type. For a 5 1/2 hour "load" you're more likely looking at network slowdown issues (although 512 megs for XP is WAYYYY too little. I HATE when they put PCs together like that). The RAM upgrade will show significant speed increases, but no improvement with YouTube videos or other downloads. Take care. ~ ED ---------------------------------------------------------------- Javin007: :) At the risk of boring too many people, here's how memory in a PC works: You have two kinds of memory: RAM, and Hard Drive (technically there's three, as there's also onboard video RAM on video cards, but this is primarily used for 3D video game textures, so can be mostly ignored.) Your harddrive's read/write speed is determined by the type of harddrive it is (most are SATA now) and the rotation speed (most are 7200 RPM, though the specs for your system say yours is only 5400 RPM, but there are 10, 15, and even 20K rpm models out there that are exponentially more expensive.) No matter what, harddrive memory will always be degrees slower than RAM. RAM on the other hand is a small chunk of memory that is "temporary" memory, but very fast. Its speed is determined by the type of RAM (DDR2 being the current common one for notebooks, though DDR3 is available with some motherboards (you can ignore this, though, as you can only handle 2 gigs max of DDR with your system). The motherboard will determine the limits for the RAM that can be installed.) When running *ANYTHING* on your computer, and I mean ANYTHING, it must first be loaded into RAM to be accessed by the CPU. The computer doesn't directly access the harddrive. So this means when your operating system is loaded (Windows XP) the entirety of all running processes for the OS have to be loaded into RAM. Now, Microsoft claims that Windows XP only requires a minimum of 64 megs of RAM, but recommends 128 megs. I challenge you to find me a Windows XP system that only uses 128 megs out of the box. It's not atypical for an XP system to chew through all 512 megs of your RAM, leaving no RAM available for other applications. (Interestingly, the default setup for your laptop is only 256 megs of RAM, yet yours is reporting 512.) What happens when there's no RAM left? The system has to then start trading things into what is called "Virtual Memory." VM is nothing more than a file on the harddrive that will temporarily hold information that SHOULD be in RAM, so the RAM can load more info. For instance, say you have a process that's using RAM, but you want to watch your YouTube video. As the video is ready to play, the system will take the other process's data that's in RAM, write it to the harddrive, load your video into RAM in its place, play a portion of it, write the video to the harddrive, load the data for the process to RAM, let it run for a split second (so it doesn't lock up), write it back to the harddrive, load your video into RAM and play a short clip, etc. etc. etc. The result of low RAM on your system is that applications will open slowly (seconds or minutes, instead of instantly or a few seconds) and they will seem slow to respond, will stutter, etc. With enough RAM, your system can freely open as much as it needs into RAM, and ignore the virtual memory and all the slowdowns that it causes. Now, all of this being said, NO lack of RAM will cause a streaming video to take 5 1/2 hours to play. This is 100% going to be related to your downspeed. (Go to www.speedtest.net and post your results.) RAM slowdowns tend to be most noticeable when shutting down, or starting up your computer, apps will open a little more slowly, they will be slower to respond to button clicks, and video will be very choppy. Anything that is causing a YouTube video to take HOURS will be due to the system simply waiting to get the video in the first place. RAM wouldn't slow down the receiving of the video, but it would cause the video to play weird once it's downloaded. So, all this being said, here's the summary: Your system has a 1.7 Ghz processor, and your RAM is most likely 333 Mhz DDR. If you bump your memory up to a gig, you should see a pretty significant improvement in that your computer will, overall, just "feel" faster. It'll be more responsive, and working with large documents will be many, many times faster. This won't, however, affect your YouTube experience (unless you were getting jittery video often, not the same as "buffering" video.) If you see "buffering" for a long time, your internet connection is your bottleneck. A test on www.SpeedTest.net will likely confirm this. However, if you get decent numbers on SpeedTest, then we could have something more sinister going on, though I suspect you'll find your numbers well below the 1 mbps rate. This brings us to actually changing the RAM. I've been out of the PC hardware realm (professional programmer now) for a few years, and was unable to find a manual for your particular model. However, if memory serves, this image should be a fairly accurate representation of the underside of your system: http://www.javin-inc.com/temp/thinkpad.JPG Don't quote me, but I BELIEVE the red circle will indicate the only screw you will need to remove to access the RAM. There should also be a small clip holding the RAM in place that you'll want to pinch to get the RAM out, and make sure that the new RAM snaps into place. (Sometimes you'll have additional empty RAM beds, and you can just put your RAM in there and end up with 1.5 gigs, but I suspect you'll have two 256 gig chips in there.) ---------------------------------------------------------------- 92033: Phew. Thanks. Here's my DISCOVERY :-( The RAM chip installed was NOT a 512mg...but only a 256mg chip. The ads ans specs say it's a 512mg...NOT SO. I was lied to by either the manufacturer or refurbishing company who removed the original 512 chip and reinstalled a 256 chip. I was lied to by the Tiger Direct guy on the phone. There are NOT two chip slots...only one. So I now have a useless removed 256mb RAM chip. Replaced with the 1gb RAM chip I just installed. So instead of having 1-1/2 gb RAM, I only have 1gb. Here's the crux. To. go to 2gb RAM I'd need to buy a full 2gb RAM CHIP and discard the 1gb for which I just paid $39.99 ($45.00 with s/h). This means another output of almost a hundred dollars plus the $45.00 just wasted because they wont accept return once the sealed chip plastic was opened...even though I had no idea there was only ONE SLOT in this PC instead of TWO like the Tiger Guy said. Now...crux #2...this new 1gb RAM does nothing more to increase speed. I just watched a 2.01 MINUTE YouTube video which took a HALF HOUR to load, so I threw the money away for nothing, eh? There is no noticeable change except the 'speed' shows it now as 41.2 kbps instead of 40 kbps. Okay...now HOW do I get to speed this thing up to normal viewing in real time? I also saw an ad for 4bg RAM Gateway laptop with 120gb hard drive for $404.99 which is all suped-up with everything. I had to upgrade a LOT since I got this only four months ago...taking over a hundred hours to load it, like Internet Explorer 5 to 6 and then to 8 and now to 9. I'm using AVAST Anti-Virus, after trying for 23 hours to get ADVAR, then find out it didn't load because of problem on the servor's end. Added Firefox and upgraded twice. Loaded MS Protection but it created more problems so I deleted it...now with AVAST which I like. Soooo...I've literally spent over 200 hours to get this thng where it's at now, plus the wasted money for the upgraded RAM chip.and I still don't have increased speed. HOW do I get it? IF the processor has to be changed does this mean I have to gut the thing and install a new motherboard? If so, what kind of money cost are we talking here? I bought this four months ago as a refurbished unit only because I was able to get it on payments of only $25.00 a month. If you're running windows XP, you can assume all the extra processes (virus scanners, and whatnot) will be eating up about 512 megs of the RAM. First thing to do is check DXDIAG again (start/run) and verify that it's now reporting the correct amount of RAM. (Don't be surprised if it's like 9 hundred something megs or slightly more. It won't report 1024 or 1 gig.) This being said, that will leave you with the other 512 for your applications. This box won't be running the latest and greatest 3D games, but I suspect it was never intended to. If the heaviest hitter you'll have running is along the lines of photoshop, the 1 gig of RAM you have now should be plenty sufficient. I wouldn't worry about getting 2 gigs. Not for this rig, anyway. Also, Avast is a great (and free) virus protection, every bit as good as Symantec's Norton, so good choice there. If your youtube videos are choking out, we need to start by verifying that it's an actual speed throttling problem. Go to www.SpeedTest.net and run the speed test. Come back with the results.
