Things to do with C Batteries?

For a while my wife had to use this special medical machine that ran on c batteries.  every week the hospital would send us a box batteries even tho they were lasting about a month.  We kept telling them that we didn't need more but they said that they were required to send them anyway.  Now that she's off the machine I have all these batteries and nothing that uses them.  Everything that i've found on Amazon is very expensive.    I'm into woodworking and no absolutely nothing about electrical stuff or I'd design something myself.    anybody have any cool projects using c batteries? as one project idea, I have several of these lantern flashlights that run on d's.  it would be cool to convert those to run on c's.

Batteries

I have a small solar set-up and was about to wire in a second battery and increase my available amperage. I just read an article about only connecting batteries of equal power, voltage (which I understand) and AH (which I was surprised). I hadn't realized that AH may also play a part in this. Can someone tell me if this is true? I have 2 older marine batteries and I change over the wires from the charge controller to recharge them separately. My thought was to wire them in parallel, let them charge together and increase my amperage at the same time. First one is 12 vdc / 80AH 2nd one is 12vdc / 60 AH I also have a 12 vdc / 160 AH that will be coming out of the boat soon and was hoping to hook that in as well (once I pick-up another panel).

Storing electricity in a homemade rechargeable battery

Storing electricity in homemade rechargeable battery ... I've read lots of things about cranking the shaft of a conventional motor to create electricity. Can the electricity be stored for later use in a homemade rechargeable battery? Also, does anyone have an idea on how to make such a rechargeable battery? Thanks.

Quick Question about Batteries

I'm sure this is a really simple question, but I'm still new to all this electricity stuff. If I had two D batteries in a battery pack formation, so I'm drawing current from both of them, if the wire coming off the positive doesn't connect to anything else, and neither does the negative, will the batteries drain faster than they would if they were just sitting there? Here's a (cruddy) diagram.

18V drill battery connector

Hi, I want to make a connector from this 18V drill battery pack to a 5.5mm x 2.5mm DC power male plug. I am planning to use the battery to act as an external power source for a camera. I still want to leave the battery pack for the drill as it is since I will be using the drill sometimes, so soldering cables to the battery connectors is not an option. Are there any other smart ideas?

Crazy Idea with Cellphone Batteries. Need an Experts input

My cell phone's battery doesn't last very long--less than 24 hours while I'm using it, and less than 48 on standby.  I'm getting a new battery for it, but based on what I've read about this phone on the Internet, it's just a battery hog, and the new battery likely won't help much. So my thought was "what if I put TWO batteries in there?"  Crazy, right?  I mean, I can't actually fit two batteries in my cell phone, but what if I could find a way to run wires from the outside of my phone to the battery on the inside, augmenting that battery? The problem I have is that I'm not sure if this will result in extended battery life, or an explosion.  I know that Li-Ion batteries are not like your normal AAs. And I know that to keep the voltage right, I'd have to wire them in parallel.  But if I wire them in parallel, without some sort of circuit in front of both batteries, will that be safe? I think that if there was a circuit in front of the two batteries hooked up in parallel things would be fine.  But if I just hook to separate batteries in parallel, each meant for my cell phone, then each battery will have the circuit protecting it, but not the two in parallel, and that might be dangerous. So anyway, if anyone out there has any idea on how safe this is or isn't, I'd appreciate their input! Rick

Camera Battery hack : Need some Battery expert advise

Hi All, I have a Underwater camera (which is now going to become the backup) However the battery is only 710 mAh. This works out to 20 mins of video or about 2 dives of photos. Original battery : http://www.adorama.com/SSNP40.html Battery  Lithium-ion Charge Time  1.5 to 2 hours Output Voltage  3.7v Capacity  710 mAh But as the battery is so small and useless, i want to open the camera and soldier 3 wires to the battery connectors and add a 3 pin connector. As course there is space within the house to place a new battery, IF the right size and shape can be found. However, i dont understand batteries... Is it safe to add a bigger capacity batter as long as the output stays the same(volts... as i cant find the Amp output) I found this battery, looks like it might fit in the house http://uk.farnell.com/panasonic/pa-l2/battery-li-ion-1s1p-3-7v-1-95ah/dp/1900165 But i am just not sure if this will work??? Any ideas, tip or advise welcome. Thanks

DIY Laptop Battery

I bought a second-hand, cheap laptop but it doesn't have a battery. It's an HP Compaq Presario V6000 series. I don't want to spend on getting a new battery right now. Is there a way I can make a cheap laptop battery out of Ni-Mh cells that I already have? Or, if I get a cheap China made battery in the near future, is there a way to charge that Li-ion battery using the Ni-Mh cells, when it goes low and there's no electricity? Please advise if something like this exists or if someone already made it. Regards, RS

Battery safety

Hi guys, I was wondering if it's dangerous to touch two wires hooked up to a 9v battery to each other. They heat up really quick, could they make the battery explode or do something else bad if left like that for any long period of time? I tried to search for the answer, but couldn't find it.

How to make a long lasting battery pack for portable vaporizer that is small and long lasting?

What would the specs be to make a battery or buy a battery that would work for my portable vapir oxygen mini vaporizer? Can I just use any 12v battery pack or is it more complicated than that? The ac adapter says the output power is 12v----1.5A with a max output power of 18w. And I know the oxygen mini has an optional battery pack but it is expensive and doesn't last that long. The attached picture is of the ac adapter. Also how could I charge this pack?

Help, please: Opening a sealed camera battery

I have several exhausted NiMH camera batteries, for a camera I rarely use anymore. The batteries (or perhaps the charging system) were awful. But I would like to use it as a backup--maybe by replacing the NiMH cells, or inserting smaller Li-ion unit... Anyone been successful at opening these? I think the seams are welded...

replace battery with capacitor

Hello, I have a old hair clipper.  It has a rechargeable battery in it, which does not charge very well. I opened up the clipper and it has a single battery. It reads d-2/3a700 mAh 2.4 v. What do I need to do to replace with a capacitor?  Like resistors and such. If I wanted to get it to charge quick.  And use it quick. thanks

Battery Powered Lamp

I have to make a battery powered lamp for a school project but having no experience or knowledge whatsoever in electronics I really need help! I'm using a halogen GU10 bulb which is 35W, 240V, toggle switch and 2 AA batteries. Can someone please explain how I would wire the light bulb to a toggle switch and batteries? Also, do I need a resistor anywhere? Apparentely halogen bulbs aren't really suitable for lamps, so should I change to a superbright LED? Thanks!

Battery power

I have a battery powered laser on top of a spinning disc. This laser runs out of battery fairly quickly, I need to make it last longer somehow. Could I wire the laser to multiple batteries to make it last longer? If i manage to find a mains powered laser then it spinning constantly wouldn't work as it would have a wire. I ideally need to find a way to power this laser (probably 2 lasers) for most of a day with something that fits on a fairly small spinning disc. Any ideas? Cheers

Replace r/c batteries

Hi, does anyone know how to replace r/c car batteries with normal AA cells (or pp3 or whatever)? This is really annoying me coz I have an old r/c car (pretty good one actually) but the battery has died and I was wondering how to replace it (or 'refresh' it if this is possible, which I don't think it is...). It would also be helpful to know a technique for finding out the voltage/amperage of the old batteries so I can fix it without blowing the electronics. Pictures would be attached but the uploader isn't working right now; I'll get them up as soon as possible. Thanks guys,

Hack a laptop battery?

I have like 4 broken laptops laying around and i have been trying to decide what to do with them.  I had this thought and looked up some information about it.  In the battery is basically like 8 AA rechargeable batteries.  Well these broken laptops in question no longer charge their batteries.  I know i can crack open these batteries to get the AAs out.  But is there anyway to charge them once they are out?  I would be comfortable soldering if I have to.  I am very new to these instructables, but I know my way around electronics to fix them.  But this idea has me stumped.  But this could also give me a crap load of rechargeable batteries for my sons toys.  Thank you in advance for any information you could give me.

PICAXE battery voltage monitor

Does anyone have an idea of how one could get a picaxe to monitor its own battery source and light an LED when the voltage drops below a certain value. I am thinking that there might be a way to do it using a ADC input. Perhaps a zener diode could be used and the voltage above its threshold could be measured.

Powering 12" - 17" LCD screen with a battery - possible?

Hi there - i had an idea for a project but am stuck on the techie details, hopefully someone can help! The idea involves a freestanding LCD monitor running on battery rather than plugged into a wall. ideally the the battery would be as small as possible and concealable. Also, i would like to strip the monitor of its casing and if possible connection to a computer and have it just display a single video clip on loop that would come from a source directly connected to the display - would anyone know how this could be achieved?? thanks in advance to any and all responses! PS i cannot use a tablet, for cost reasons and also i need the screen stripped so as to attach it to the final installation.

How to set a long lasting single LED unit?

Hey guys! I need help to extend the battery life to power a single 5mm red LED that will be left on 24/7. My set up is very simple. Just a battery holder with 2 AAA and the LED attached to the terminals. It is supposed to be visible inside the ceiling fixture for Feng Shui purposes (don't ask, I just follow). So far it hasn't lasted for more than three days tops. Its supposed to be able to fit in a tight space just enough to fit the battery holder. I need to make 3 of these for 3 locations so I don't think rechargeable batteries can be practical. Can you guys give me advise on this? I hope you guys can help. Thanks in advance!

Power my boombox

I have this power supply from a device that is not needed anymore. I have 2 of them (so i can harvest the other battery for another project, or to help run this one).. It is a backup battery unit designed to power my old device even if the power in the house goes out. I have some questions about the compatibility with a project i am working on. I'm sure it's obvious to most of you, but i labeled the parts in one pic so that i could pinpoint my question. A. is the battery terminal clips B. the feed of power to the device not being used anymore C. the plug that recharges the battery So then logically D is the board that feeds power from the battery, and E is the recharging unit. The pic isn't great, but there are 2 ribbons that attach D to E. I can also provide better pics if something isn't clear enough. My question is this... I am building a semi-small boombox with a car audio head unit. Since a car battery provides 12v, and the battery in this unit provides 12v, can i use this contraption to power my project? Can i simply cut off the adapter on the end of B, expose some copper, and attach to the power of the head unit? It seems simple to me, but my knowledge of electricity is VERY limited and i don't want to burn down my house or ruin my head unit. So far, i haven't paid a penny for anything and i want to keep it that way.

Just to make sure! 30A to charge battery?

Hey! I have an old home alarm system which is broken beyond repair. I just wanted to make sure if it is OK to charge the 12v battery at 2.1 or2.4 Ah with an ATX PSU at 30A? Will the battry just take 2A from it? If not I have the transformer that came with the Alarm, would that be safe to charge with? It's 12v BTW. Thanks. Never can be too careful. Also, I'm using it on a scanner light tube, this will be fine, yes? I have the starter, it is not a problem. It's weird though, when it is lit, you can pull out the ground on the light tube, not the starter and ut still stays lit. Weird. Thanks in advance!
