For the benefit of Mr Kite

In the year of my birth, John Lennon penned a little ditty, inspired by an antique poster he bought. Today, that poster has been recreated with quite obsessively extreme care. I would love a copy, but, at £294, with the cost of framing on top of that... I don't think so. Time for plan B... Dear Santa...

Pro membership switching back to regular membership (old account)? Answered

My recent Instructable (Shameless Plug) was featured, and apparently now they give out free 3 month Pro Memberships. Pretty spiffy. However, I've got an old account (meaning I can view all steps on one page, PDF stuff, and etc.) and was wondering if I accept this 3 month "trial", and then switch decide to switch back to basic membership. Will my benefits of having an older account disappear?

Pet (Contest) benefit -NOT a plug....honest-

The Benefits of Pets in general should not be minimized. No, this is NOT a plug for my contest entry, but a plea to go look at the Pet contest, and consider the benefits of pets (especially rodent pets), if you do not have one as an extended member of your family. A few pet benefits.

Benefits between using a Relay or Transistor? Answered

I am unclear as to the potential benefits of using a relay versus a transistor and vice versa. Does some one have a good link or explanation? In the project that I am working on I need to be able to turn power on/off for a device that uses 500mA at 7.5V. Is there one that I should use? Everything is DC not AC if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance for your help.

Can I buy a soldering station used? Or is there a huge benefit to new irons?

I was wondering whether there was anything to look out for if/when buying a soldering station (hakko fx888, auyoe, weller, something of the like) on ebay or craigslist? I don't really want to spend a ton of money and was thinking I could save a little by going used. Thanks!

Larger Photos in PDFs

I am a long-time free Instructables member and a brand new Pro member. Now that you have subscription memberships, would it be possible to offer in the PDF downloads a third image size choice (currently standard and small) of LARGE for those of us who would benefit from larger photos? That would be a fantasticly awesome feature that could be a Pro-only benefit. What do you think?

Another Irritated Customer!

Over the last few months I have experienced sporadic problems with being logged out in mid-session.  It is becoming worse.  Now pretty much anytime I do anything requiring a page refresh or change, I get logged out.  It took me three logins to get to this page so I could post this message.  Basically none of the Pro benefits are functional.  I cannot access PDFs, additional images, or much of anything which my Pro membership supposedly provides.  I am obviously not the only person with this or similar problems. Please resolve this issue or cancel my Pro subscription and refund my payment. I love the site but I don't love paying for benefits which I can't access!

What is the point on selecting collaboration as an option for an instructable?

Does this allow others to modify your instructable and/or with your permission.  I could see the benefit in this for sure, but does it make it become exclusive so that others can't see it?  Any pro/cons on this subject would great and welcomed. Thanks

How do you determine the length of an antenna and the size of a fractal antenna? Answered

In an instructable, the formula for calculating antenna length was given as "length in meters =300 / frequency in MHz".  The example given was for a Bluetooth antenna with a frequency of 2450MHz.  The antenna length was calculated as 300/2450 = 0.1225m = 12cm.  The author then divided it by 4 to make a "quarter wave" antenna length of 30mm.  Why divide it by 4 and what is the benefit of a "quarter wave" antenna.  What is the effect of the conductor leading to the antenna?  If the 30mm antenna is soldered to a 4mm lead, does that result in a 34mm antenna?  For a fractal antenna, should the 30mm length of wire be folded into a fractal shape or should the total fractal antenna be 30mm in width?  I have read somewhere that one of the benefits of a fractal antenna is that they are able to receive signals of different wave lengths.
