A couple of days ago I had a "Best Answer" to a question regarding suspending a kayak from a ceiling. Today I find that BA was removed from my total along with the author's response. It also seems that the question has been removed from the Answers section. Can questions or Best Answer ratings be deleted by the author?

I'm not positive I'm entirely right on this, so if I'm wrong, don't jump down my throat. Thanks. When you reply to someone (I usually do something like, "Thanks,") on a question you've asked, it counts that comment as an answer to go towards your Best Answer Percentage. I don't think this is fair because: 1.) There is no way you can select your answer as a Best Answer (I would never do this, though), and 2.) It goes towards your Best Answer Percentage. In addition to routinely submitting to instructables, I also try to improve my stats (total views, comments, subscribers, ect.). So, my Best Answer Percentage (in addition to many other's %, I assume) has gone down because our answers on our own questions count towards the Best Answer Percentage. Instructables staff, if you could change this, I would be very appreciative. Thanks!

Have you checked the answers page lately? Take a look at the first page, I don't see a whole lot of Best Answers marked there. Not a big deal, most of them are fairly recent. Try checking the 2nd and 3rd.I don't see very many at all... They've been there for a few days, surely at least half should be answered. I understand that not all questions asked can be fairly answered, due to being an opinion, or just a question that doesn't need a best answer, like "What's you favorite food?" Please, if you are reading this, and recently asked a qeustion, go back and read them. If you find something that answers your question, by all means select it as Best Answer, otherwise you are wasting their time. ( "their" meaning the people who answered your question, apparently "answerer's" isn't a word.) Don't take this as a rant, because it certainly isn't, I'm just trying to speak on the behalf of all the people who take time to answer the community's questions. Thanks.

Browsing the instructables, you can't sort by favorite. If there was a battle royale between the most favorited instructables, which one do you think would win? I realize it's hard to say: Some ibles have been here a long time, so their favorite stats are higher. Some ibles deal with less popular topics, but are super popular for the people who are interested in it. So go ahead and make some allowances, and tell me about them. My two picks from what I've been able to search: 3031 fav, 3.9 million views, 2011 https://www.instructables.com/id/Led-Cube-8x8x8/ 3732 fav, 3.6 milion views, 2007 https://www.instructables.com/id/Paracord-bracelet-with-a-side-release-buckle/ Not sure which one I would pick. The bracelet one is really old, but has about as many views as the LED one, so the ratio of fav/view, it wins. But from a fav/age standpoint, the paracord bracelet wins.

Me and my brother are buying posters for our basement, and we want to know what poster is the best. We already have Scarface, Godfather, Indiana Jones, Batman: The Dark Knight. So if you have a favorite post it. (We would buy Saving Private Ryan, but it cost 20-30 bucks. Thanks

I need to driver (5) 1watt white LEDs (forward voltage of 3.2~3.5v) and current of 350mA. I guess the best way would be to connect them all in series and somehow give them power. This is meant to be powered off of the wall socket (whether through SMPS or a capacitor or a resistor or a transformer or anything.). My question is what's the best way to drive them? I've never really used high power LEDs before. I'd also prefer to be able to adjust the brightness...

So another year has rolled by. Many new things were posted, some were pretty good! Now I am hosting a community contest to see what people liked the most. There are 3 categories, and you can select up to 3 creations for each category (You don't have to pick 3 if you don't want to). So you can pick your top 9 most favorite creations of the year. The categories are: Best overall Knex gun Best Knex replica Best non-gun. You can select a creation to go in more than 1 category. For example, if you thought a knex replica of a real life rollercoaster was good, you could vote for it in the "Best knex replica" and "Best non-knex gun" categories. There are some restrictions of course. The creations you vote for HAVE to have a post date of 2010. Preview pictures can be posted earlier than that, but they have to be posted this year. Also, you cannot pick a gun that you made. For example, I cannot vote for my Halo Battle rifle to go in "Best knex replica". If the creation you vote for came from a site outside of Instructables or KI (like Youtube), you will need to provide a link for it. What are you waiting for? Get voiting! I'm giving away patches to the top 3 winners in each category, plus a patch for my personal favorite, which makes 10. Voting ends Monday, January 24, which gives you 3 weeks to vote.

I just want to know peoples opinion on which is the better assault rifle. personally, i prefere the ak-47 because of its better knock down power, ease of use and reliability. the only thing i can see what the m-16 has to offer over the ak-47 is its improved accuracy. what does everyone think the better assault rifle is?

This is one of those ideas that I came up with yet unfortunately I don't think that I will have the time nor effort to complete it. Yet I would love to see it come into fruition, and that's why I've decided to explain it here. What I would like to see is some crafty individual take the concept of the bristle bot and simply increase the magnitude of the dimensions and make it into a ride-able craft. This also could possibly be entered into the big and small challenge. Any questions that you might come up with I will gladly answer.

What's the best electro-static influence machine? Like which one can output the best sparks for the spinning input, ie which one is the most efficient? Wimshurst Sectorless Wimshurst (Bonnetti) Van De Graff Voss Holtz Lebiez Leyser Bohnenberger Wehrsen Wilson Or some friction (not influence) based electrostatic machine? All of the influence machines are pretty similar, but I need to make a fairly small one (think disk diameters of only 3 or 4 inches), and i'm trying to make it hand held, so efficiency is a must!

Please forgive me if this topic has already been discussed in the forums. With the holidays up and coming, it seemed like a potentially good time to look into getting some magazines for monthly reading material. That said, what are your favorite (and least favorite) magazines? --Purduecer

Ok, this the best knex builder/gun contests.first contest is the best knex builder contest.Tech-king-----------------------4Kiteman-------------------------4Mepain--------------------------3DSman195276----------------3Perfect Duck-------------------3Oodalumps--------------------2Ironman69---------------------2here i will post the builders people voted for here, as if i premake a list then not every one gets a fair change.in this contest everyone gets two votes. you can only use one of the votes to vote for your self. you HAVE to vote two times or not at all.the second contest is the gun contest.this will be split into 2 categories:category 1: firing pin guns.DM-27--------------------7moretti------------------3OSNJCKMA2----------1K'nex Plasma Rifle--1red impact-------------1project Q---------------1category 2: crossbowsSR-V1----------------------------------4REAPER-------------------------------3Mepains huge knex crossbow--2my crossbow-------------------------1THE RULES ARE:1. YOU HAVE TO VOTE TWO TIMES OR NOT AT ALL IN EACH RANK2. ONLY TWO VOTES ARE ALLOWED3. YOU CAN ONLY VOTE FOR YOUR SELF ONCE IN EACH RANKING4. NO CHEATING IS TOLERATEDif you are unsure of what rank your gun should go into, ask me.the winner gets a 10 rating from me and the joy winning.BIG UPDATE:there is one more contest that is going to happen. it is the contest for the best gun that is posted now. all guns posted before 5/12/08 will not count in this contest. so get cracken on the next gun you are making! you have to make a readable/followable instructable because if you get into the top 5 then i need to be able to make the gun.the dead line for the instructable to be entered into the contest for best gun 6/5/08(subject to change)after that the voting will begin. the voting will end 6/15/08(subject to change)after that i will make the 5 top voted for and get stats for them(i will do this because i can put the exact rubberbands on each gun) and the judging will begin. the judges will be possibly be me, other people, and the winner of the best knex builder contest.i am thinking that judging maybe a better idea then just going by votes because then fake accounts maybe made to rig the voting.so far i think that the judges will be just about anyone that has built a decent gun and has consistently put in good feed back for other users. the ones i know for sure will be judges are :Mepain, Perfect Duck, Oodalumps, me(maybe, thats your decision not mine), the_bruitto_master, and the winner of the best builder contest.when i tie occur during the voting stage of the best gun/builder contest the most recently voted for will appear first, but it is still a tie.so:

What are the best online stores out there? most reliable? fastest shipping? cheapest shipping?Of the ones listed below which are most trustworthy?bwayphoto.combhphotovideo.combeachcamera.comsoniccameras.com via pricingdepot.cometc.i'm trying to buy the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi and am curious which is bestmy favorite deal was on bwayphoto, but after reading reviews of the site, i've become really skeptical. They have my camera on sale at $597 for the body and TWO lenses, but i am unsure whether it would be wise to buy from them. The lenses are the stock lense and a 75-300mm zoom whcih i think would be a GREAT deal. Should i try them and try to get through the sales pitch?Pricing depot shows that sonic camera sells the body for only $319 but eh, who knows?the reviews seemed okay. similar to those of bway, but more reliable. (they had a sales pitch, phone confirmation, etc.)b and h seems incredibly reliable, but the prices aren't amazingly low like the others. ( i guess that shows it's trustworthiness?)beachcamera i never really looked over, i just heard it was good. so, what do you think?

Call me vain, but it sure does feel good to receive a few thousand views for a newly published Instructable. So I got to thinking about which day of the week would result in the best exposure for a new Instructable. Being featured is important of course - without that little banner the Instructable will never reach the editors' picks section, the front page, or the newsletter. So assuming you can create an Instructable which will be featured, when's a good time to post it? I find that publishing an Instructable on Thursday or Friday morning-midday is a good idea - this gives the editors time to review and feature your Instructable before the weekend. If you're lucky enough to have your 'ible featured on the frontpage on Saturday, I think it pretty much sits there for the whole weekend since the editors are not in the office to approve new homepage 'ibles. Even if you don't make the front page, it'll stay at the top of the editors' picks section for awhile. Publishing from Friday afternoon to Sunday might be a bad idea since that's when a lot of people have the time to publish, so come Monday the front page is backed up with newly featured Instructables. Yes, I am a little obsessed preoccupied with this whole idea, but I don't think I'm insane, which means that someone else out there must be wondering the same thing. What do you think?

I'm in the market for a portable camping stove and I came across this 2 burner WITH a STOVE! This thing looks awesome, assuming you have the space to tote it around with. I have declared 2010 the year of camping for our family. I'm in the process of gathering camping lists and preparing for my buying spree. Any suggestions welcome!

Please Read Before Commenting:Allow me to clarify:First, I hate calling it mac vs. pc, as a Mac is also a personal computer, but for convenience we'll stick with the idea that there's difference. My reason for making this thread is that I recently learned that the UF college of journalism (one of the best journalism schools in the US) requires all of it's third year students to own a macbook. Not just the photographers/multimedia students, but all of them. The photography aspect is the one that I care about. What I'm looking for in this thread is to be convinced that Macs are better than PCs for graphic work.I won't be rebutting or flaunting the advantages of PCs, and I hope none of you will, either. I just want to know what the real advantages are, particularly from people who are actually knowledgeable in the field. Please don't respond with vague statements about reliability and a lack of viruses. I would like quantitative reasons (relating to photography/graphic design), and not just your feelings. If you think that the main reason to use a Mac is the OS, tell me 1) Why? 2) Would it be just as good on another piece of hardware? Thanks! I look forward to reading your responses, and I hope my above message didn't come off as mean...I just don't want this to be a flame war.

Greets. I think it would be a wonderful idea to an Annual 1000 Best Instructables Compilation book in PDF format (and perhaps in actual hardback as well). I think it would make a fun and amazing compilation - and would be very unique DIY/projects book to read. Please keep the PDF version free.

I have been using knex probably for over 10 years and I have built a ton of different weopons and things but a fwew stick out. I do love my new transformers but my best work was a wearable mech suit. The boots could hold over 200 lbs and covered the whole body. My favorite was an AT-AT from starwars where if you hit the underbelly of the walker the head falls off and it drops to the floor like the movie one. I want to know people Best and favorite knex creations over the years.

I'm somewhat of an instructables/DIY junkie, but all too frequently I find a great project that I know I won't have time to finish for years. So, unless it's already been done and I haven't seen it, I propose an instructables challenge for one hour projects, maybe limited to household object, or a ~$50 budget. Not sure if this is the correct forum to be broaching the subject, but it can't hurt to try. Someone Please email/PM me if this catches on! Thanks!
