I thinks thats it now for google. google.com:pros: Most browsers have a little bar at the top for searching. Most popular searching site. Can't think of anymore.. ask.com:cons: Not very popular All i can think of. google.com:cons:doesn't have all that stuff that ask.com has. That seams to wrap it up. What do you think is better? Also if you have any thing to add on the pros and cons list post them here.

I am building a hose extension. I have a garden hose hooked up to the house supply, the hose runs to the back yard where it connects to PVC fittings. The rest of the system is a series of sprinklers too complex to explain here. My question is, should I use glue or plummers tape to make each connection water tight? Thanks!

Hey, I'm trying to figure out which computer I should buy. One is an HP Pavilion HPE H8 with an Intel i7 third generation quad core at 3.4Ghz. The other has an AMD FX100 Hex core processor at 3.5Ghz. It sounds like the AMD is the winner, but I just want to be sure. I plan on running games such as Battlefield 3, Crysis 2, Saints Row 3, Medal of Honor, Need for Speed World, and about 7 or 8 other smaller games. The computer with the AMD processor has 8GB RAM and the i7 processor has 10GB, both have 1TB sata 7200rpm HDD. Which is faster? Which will run best?

This is my idea: https://www.instructables.com/id/Cigar-bo... This is the other idea: https://www.instructables.com/id/False-Bo... The second idea was a finalist in a contest on Instructables. I was also in the contest with the first idea. I was wondering exactly how this was a finalist over mine? My idea was the same thing, but improved. It was even entered before his! My idea featured some of the things that people commented as an improvement in his instructable. The only thing I can think of is maybe the simplicity of design? Mine has more to it than just a secret box though, and it was far more concealed.

Hey everybody! As you know, the instructable chatroom we always use is getting slower and slower as the comments builds up... :(Until gmjhowe made another faster, chatroom here!It is called The Super Uber Mega Instructables Chatroom. Enjoy! Also its the exact same chatroom as on the ibles website, so anyone in the uber version can talk to people in the normal version (on the ibles website).I am not trying to spam here, the reason I am doing this is because a lot of users are complains that the old chatroom is getting slower...

hello, i am starting up an online store, and am already starting to sell some of my pyrotechnic supplies, such as manganese dioxide and charcoal, but i just realised, on ebay (my online store is not an ebay store), people are only ever selling pine charcoal or willow charcoal! which doesnt make much sense since is a super fine powder and is made up of carbon. i need to know what makes these so much different from regular random tree charcoal that comes from just anywhere, and, is the charcoal i have now, which is of unknown origin, but mostly of from pine-like trees in the tropics, the same? i need to know if it makes any difference since i dont want angry customers demanding refunds because it isnt as good as other charcoal!

I am hoping this will soon become a forum where everyone can come to see lists of instructables that they can easily do around the house. This is not however an extra way to promote your unrelated ible. If you truly believe that your project helped the environment with then Zeroth law applies: Thou Shalt Post. Also please dont refrain from commenting on peoples instructables from here so that people know what is good/easy/difficult/effective ect. I will start by posting my own. Its not very good but it is very easy and effective and i still use mine without damage. My second instructable.

Hello. I got a Wireless Mouse that still working fine. The signal between the Mouse and its receiver is not so great, about half meter, and it stop responding. So I took apart the Mouse and its Receiver. The antenna of the Mouse is kind of steal (I think but its color) and the one of the receiver is coil of very thing copper about 3/4 turns around a piece of plastic. So as said I would like to increase the signal between both, for better rang. What I have found around the best material is copper, so here is my issue. Is it better to modify the antenna of the Mouse or its receiver?? Should I rather use thicker Copper Wire and do few spinning around a piece of plastic, or use a thinner Copper Wire and do a lot of spin around a piece of plastic. So what better for a strong signal: - thicker wire and less spinning or - thinner Wire and more spinningThanx for those that would give a some advise/recommendations. I am will upload pictures later when possible. PS: I manage to add to it a Switch to turn off the mouse to extend battery Life.

I love this article by Robyn Chachula on how to take a beautifully patterned granny square design and turn it into a lovely garment of any shape or size. Her use of post-it-notes to represent each square is genius, and makes the process dead easy for us visual-types. Check it out! It's too easy not to try. via: crochet me

I caught this on BBC Radio 4: The story goes, that grandmother had an insight that the sisters would become a big band. So father tried to make it happen. 5 years of practicing without musical-influences one album (1000 copies), and embarrassing performances. I've been really getting into what I can find, because it's not music as we know it... take out doing something that you want to do (they didn't) and trying to sell records, knowing what music is etc... L Shaggs are now seen as a groundbreaking outsider music group, receiving praise from mainstream artists such as Kurt Cobain and also from Frank Zappa after he called the Shaggs "better than the Beatles".

Currently there is no way to filter for questions that have not been commented on. I really enjoy answering peoples questions, but when i have to dig to find any that actually need answered it is discouraging. I propose another option in the current ones for ones with no answers submitted currently the unanswered tab shows all questions that have comments trying to answer but the user hasnt submitted it as an answer. It may also help to have inactive questions auto set to answered or inactive.

Wouldn't it be great if the mobile app could do all that you can do via a PC or Mac? For example use the forums....or post a message into a selected forum. I think it would be good if the mobile app displayed all the contests and challenges instead of missing some out. I am sure that once upon a time I could use the mobile browser to at least view the main site that way. Now they cleverly detect that I am in mobile device and do not display the same content. Diesanyone else want the mobile experience to match the desktop experience?

What does every body think about different background colors for picture taking? I made up a black one but I'm thinking about a white / cream one as well. Pictures are of a bottle with a jug knot tied (great instructable, look it up) while the other is from jessyratfink's Instructable "Sew a Where Things are Hat + Pattern!" with a white backdrop. What do you prefer? By the way, the black back drop is mine, I have it hung up on a curtain rod with a stool in front with the cloth draping over, then with the item placed on top. Still new at photography but I think it's an ok picture.

EDITFrom what I've heard, the meebo chatroom has some flaws... I figure its worth a shot of trying again in IRC. I won't go into the details, but it should be a way better method of chatting ;-)I suggest Chatzilla for a client. There's also [www.mibbit.com mibbit] which is online and has an embeddable widget, but I don't really like it as much.I want an IRC channel, and god-dangit I'm going to make one!Its #instructables on irc.freenode.netIf you're already using something like Pidgin or Trillian, IRC should probably be on there, just pick a username, server is "irc.freenode.net", then just join the chat #instructablesIf you aren't -- MIRC Chatzilla is a good client...Anyway... just wanted to let y'all know it exists :P

I am in the process of building a proper spot welder from scratch. Proper more in terms of the electrical and electronics part but not so much in looks ;) My problem now is to find useful info on what power levels are required for certain tasks. I realise that welding thin sheet metal won't need as much time and amps as welding a 3mm stainless steel rod - but what is a "good" power level? I watched a bunch of Youtube videos showing various approaches but for many it seems the producer had no clue about the difference between creating a short with burn marks and a weld... Especially when it comes to creating battery packs with a capacitor bank as the main power provider you can clearly see the device burns holes but does not really create a welded spot. On the other hand there are a few videos showing spot welder made from a MOT that seem to produce a proper melted and welded connection. When I used a proper spot welder at work it had timing settings, power levels and even a feature to adjust how the current rises.... Not to mention a gauge that checks the pressure and only activates the welder once the set point is reached... There is a ton of info out there that after a thausand words still tells you nothing you need to know :( So is there anyone here who can shed some light on the actual process of spot welding in easy words for everyone to follow? I am aiming for a max output of around 400A @ 1.5 -2.5V with an adjustable shunt in the transformer core to avoid oversaturating the core. In a later stage I will add power control over the primary side but until then it is only time control, from a few ms to a max of 5sec if the damn controller arrives one day. Big questions: 1. Is a power control really required or is it possible to cater from thin to thick just by using different timing settings? 2. Since a MOT is used for the power supply: Is it better to leave the shunts out to fully avoid saturation by adding an inductor in line with the primary or is it still better to adjust the shunts under load to get the maximum power possible? 3. Aluminium and other materials benefit from using AC but would be good to have a DC output too, if so then what materials really need DC? 4. All I could find is that copper is used for the electrodes, due to resistance and heat transfer - are there other options apart from using copper? 5. Tricky one: I would prefer to use the secondary winding as the new primary to avoid core saturation and to lower the load on the power outlet. Where can I find very thin copper bar material that I can coil up and insulate as I would quite a few more turns to get at least 1.5V out of it? Just don't like the idea of spending days rolling a copper bar thin enough.... For the advanced model at a much later stage: Of course I would like to be able to use a proper power control instead of a motor dimmer or similar. For obvious reasons an inverter microwave jumps to mind. But after checking one I noticed one big problem: there are not really that many windings on the primary of the transformer at all! Same way our modern switchmode power supplies only use a few turns these things do exactly the same. After some quick and dirty initial tests I realised that even a single turn of thick wire already results in over 20V on the secondary. Wasted a lot of wire and time making one coil with 5 turns less and one with 10 turns less but the system would not even start with it. Seems these things need a fixed inductivity on the primary that matches the frequency used, in my case 36kHz. Would love to overcome this problem so I can at least go down to a single turn to get under 5V on the output side as space is non existing on these inverters. Can I cheat? Do I need to change the circuit to match the new primary coil? Am I thinking in the wrong direction altogether here? And added bonus would be to be able to adjust the power from around 15% to 100%, so far the electronics don't allow anything below 45%. Is it possible to drive these inverters in resonance? (Ok, off topic as I would like to use this for a beefy HV supply) Last thoughts: I know people already used Arduinos and Raspberries with displays and all but so far I have not found anything that shows how to do it properly. Seems all that counts is to create connection one way or the other and to call it a spot weld even if it is just a burn hole from discharging a capacitor bank through a needle like electrode.... For obvious reasons I don't want to create just another spot welder that makes a professional pee himself laughing about it. IMHO nothing beats personal experience with something but I don't really like wasting my time by trying what other people alread did a long time ago. So if YOU already built a MOT based spot welder and used for more than a few spots I would love to hear from you! Let me know what type you used, what problems or shortcomings you noticed or where you feel it just does not work out the way you expected it. From simple things like always getting bad sparks or arcing, over how easy or hard it is to get consistand results to whatever really annoys you while using your homemade spot welder. I hope that your feedback here will help me to write an Instructable on building a spot welder that does what you expect it to do, not once or twice, but everytime you use it. Mechanics might vary the same way the electrode style does but the weld should always be a proper weld that won't tear apart ;)

Hey! I just want to suggest that the instructables team adds a "read later" (or something similar like "want to do") button that bookmarks an instructable you're interested so you can check it out later because sometimes you want to build a project and don't have the materials on hand,so with a read later button you can come back to the instructable later without a lot of searching for the exact one you were planning on doing. Not sure if this is in the right place so please redirect if it isn't. Thanks!

It would be fairer to sort the entries from least views at the beginning, to most views at the end. Now, it's the opposite. And visitors are too lazy to browse to the last page of the contest, which can be seen in the views counts: Right now in the Humana Health by Design Contest, the last entry has 43 views, which is only 0.1% of the views the one at the beginning has: 32,171. This means that whether an entry is going to be a finalist, only depends on little differences in views at the beginning of the contest. The ones that are just a little in the majority get almost all views, the ones who were just a little in the minority get much less views, so the differences get bigger and bigger during voting time. And the amount of votes of course depends on the amount of views. It would be fairer if all entries get about as much viewers, so the same chances. This can easily be done by sorting them in the opposite order, so they switch positions all the time.
