Jon Boat hand cart

Hello all, it's been a long time since I've posted anything here.  I look at the site at least once a day though, just to see whats new. Anyhow, what I have is a 12 ft john boat that needs some sort of wheel attachment so that I can pull it through the woods between ponds with relative ease. What I have is a little bit of aluminium pipe and some wheelchair parts, as well as various nuts and bolts.  I need a solution that involves no welding or brazing ( i think thats what its called ).  I can cut/drill/bolt all day, but thats about it.  Ive got a couple pics of what i have to work with.  Any ideas would be great.

Where do i start when i have a set of plans ?? thanks

Voltage question

I'm building a electric anchor for my boat. I'm using an electric actuator thats rated at 24v to 36v. I need to step up the power. my boat is only 12v. I was going to use a stepup converter. Found one  12v in and 48v out. Is there a way to control the voltage so i can tune it down to 36v. Also would there be a big difference running it 24v verus 36V?

Motorising boat

Any tips, please, on adding motor power to a 14ft Shakespeare speed boat hull without the high cost of a conventional outboard. I only need about 4mph for use on lakes and canals, so perhaps a lawnmower engine driving a paddle wheel or prop might do it, eg with a design like the fast boats in the Far East fitted with a car engine directly driving an outboard prop with the whole unit acting as tiller steering..

Pontoon boat sundeck as a noise shield over the outboard engine.

I have an older pontoon boat and there is nothing to defuse sound from the engine. I have seen them for sale but of coarse prohibitive in cost. It would have to be as light as possible.(don't want to add much weight). It would need access from the boat to the motor. If there was ever a problem with the engine ( It would be difficult to work from the water I'm very short). If anyone has any thoughts I would be very happy to hear suggestions.

Dose anyone know where i can get free plans to build a seaworthy boat?

I want to move to Hawaii and am looking to build a boat to live on and use to move down.  It needs to have a place to store a motorcycle and room to live comfortably while still being easy on my wallet.  I was thinking of using a truck engine for power and a 2 stroke generator with a plywood hull like older boats.  to keep cost low and arranging the living space like an RV to make best use of the space.  i will be grateful to anyone that can help

Convert 48V battery bank to 12V for boat appliances - Is this inefficient?

I need a 48V bank for an electric motor on my boat. I also need 12V for my appliances. Obviously keeping both a 48V and 12V bank would be most efficient but the space required and cost of maintaining 2 banks is a bit much. So I was thinking of using a 48V DC to DC convertor to convert a 48V bank to 12V for my boat appliances(lights, pumps, etc.) http://pt.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Murata-Power-Solutions/HPQ-12-25-D48N-C/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtwaiKVUtQsNaluUzA10QGezHFBNv8sYMI%3d But how much would I lose in terms of efficiency? Would the losses be too great? Would the bank of 4 x 12V 100AH batteries connected in series give me roughly 4800W ( 4 x 12 x 100 = 4800) or 16 hours of 300W use when drawing only 12V after the conversion?  Or would the available AH be much less due to the losses from the conversion?

Free boat as really cheap housing?

Has anyone else thought of getting their hands on a free boat, buying some cheap land (It's apparently not hard to get 5 acres in deserty parts of America for $5000 or even less) and burying the boat in the ground up to the waterline? You could use solar for power, and if your boat was a sailboat, you could probably rig a windmill to the mast to generate more electricity. Any thoughts on the practicality of doing this? Could you just dig a hole and bury the boat, or would it need some sort of framework to support it properly? Would transporting the boat to your land be too expensive to be worth it?

electric motor conversion for my ski boat. Help!

Here is my plan: - remove big v8 motor from 19 foot ski boat - install 6 standard size solar panels (40x65) above the boat lift and plug in the boat when not in use. - 20 kw motor, 96 V, rated current 98A (30-150A), turning 3300 rpm. - 4 batteries on board each producing  3.4 Kwh   24V.  continuous current 110 A. Questions: 1.   Does it sound like the batteries match the power requirement of the motor? 2.   Am I correct in assuming the batteries can be wired in series to produce the 96 V? 3.   If so, how long would you estimate the batteries will run the motor? 4.   Will the 6 panels at about 330w produce about 10 -15 Kw per summer day into the batteries? Cheers, Bruce.

Jet Boat powered by High pressure Water Pump???

Hello Instructablers, I would love some input from some of the great minds in this community for slightly mad project I have been thinking about. In the spirit of "What Could Possibly Go Wrong" I am planning to try powering a small boat with an engine drive water pump. We recently got some new pumps in at work that will do up to 80m head (113 psi), or flows to about 750 litres per minute (I think that's about 164 gallons). Powered by 13HP Honda engine. It's a very impressive pump, but will it be able to power a boat? Here's my plan so far: Either obtain or build a small boat. Perhaps with a flat bottom. I will mount the pump as low and central as I can. Full of water the pump will weigh around 50-60kg. The suction hose would be connected to a tank flange that penetrates the hull at the deepest point. The discharge will penetrate the transom. Various nozzle sizes will be tried to find out the best compromise between flow and velocity. What do you think? Considering most of the jetboats I have seen have massive V8 engines in them, could my idea possibly work? Will it need to be an impossibly small boat? Will I need more than one pump? How many? What's more important; flow, pressure, velocity? Should I stick to oars? I have other pumps to choose from with greater flows if that makes a difference. Go here to see them:  http://www.pumpmaster.com.au/engine-drive-pumps.htm Here's silly video of the boys at Pumpmaster in Queensland trying out the new machine... http://youtu.be/zjYvENfr1cw

How can i get a rowing action in a knex boat?

Am making a model trireme out of knex for a history project. I would like it to be motorised and in unison without it being too big. I need all the help I can get and a.s.a.p. please. (I've got some plans below on what I'm aiming for.) (In case you do not know what a trireme is, it is an ancient Greek warship with a copper ram on the front, half below the waterline.(see images))

Navigation lights for boats? 112.5 degree - Port/Starboard (red/green) side lights & 360 degree white stern lights

Small boats under power are required to have a 112.5 degree lighting on the sides and an all-round white light on the stern. The light on the left or port side is red, while the right or starboard sidelight is green. At night, these lights must be visible for 1 mile, while the stern (rear) white light must be visible for 2 miles (minimum). These lights indicate direction... course. Led navigation lights are very expensive. LEDs are very cheap... So, why not build 'um yourself? My small craft uses a 12 volt battery operated trolling motor for power, and therefore, the idea low power consumption LEDS is very appealing. I've never built and LED lights, but I'd love to see some ides for small electric (or gas powered) powered water craft. Thanks
