So a few years back, my teacher had this toy chick, that had two contacts on the bottom. When you touched both, it chirped. Whn you touched one, and you touched a friend who touched the other, it chirped. So if electricity can run through you like that, why cant the same thing work with a battery and something that takes that battery? (leave the +side in, touching the - side, and then touching the contact for the - side)

Its so hot and... well.... I made a device to cool myself down! I might make an instructable, but basically, I took two 20oz bottles with caps, poked 2 holes in the top of one, 1 hole in the other. I then ran tubing between the two, and in the bottle with 2 holes, I added a bit of tubing to put the air intake below water level. I filled the 2'holer up with icewater, and blew a bit on the air intake to get it started. It works very well, to say the least! :P

Have just been looking at buying some body fat analyser scales, and they are so expensive! £40 for what is essentially a few electronic components and a lookup table seems ridiculous. I think they use an electric pulse and then something to do with how the fat/water whatever resonates or something. As you see I don't have much to go on. Can anyone shed some light on how they measure these things and maybe even post an Instructable. Much appreciated.

Hey, people. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask questions about this sort of thing and I can't find anything on the web on the subject. I guess not too many people want to build a vehicle body from scratch. Anyhow, here's my situation. I have a large mobility scooter which I would like to transform into something nice for a Halloween parade. I can't do anything too fancy or professional looking because I don't have the resources for something like that. What I think I'll do is build a frame over which I'd bolt sheets of plastic that are cut in particular forms. Then I'd paint the whole thing with spray paint and touch up with an airbrush. What I need to know is which materials to use. There are all sorts of plastic out there. I won't be forming anything with heat, so at best I'll only need plastic that's not too thick and has a good surface for painting. Also, I don't know what to use for the frame. If you don't know about the materials, any sort of advice or encouragement would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I need some help here and I hope that there is someone that can answer this question. I have a 2003 Toyota Tacoma and I want to add some bigger fender flairs on the truck, I want to use what are called pop rivet nuts. The pop rivet nuts are inserted just like a pop rivet but it has a nut on the back of it so that you can use a small bolt. The screws that came with the fender flairs are called self tapping screws and they seem to wallow out after time. I need to know what the thickness of a typical fender is so that I can order the right pop rivet nuts. The pop rivet nuts only come in sizes for gauge metal. Does anyone know what gauge a finder is so that I can order the right pop rivet nuts. Thanks for any input.

Any idea's of keeping our troops cool in Iraq? Temperature rises to 100's during the day. Seems our government only has more cumbersome vests with (the lightest) cooling motors of 6 pounds and from what I gather can only be used in a vehicle.

Using a multimeter i tested myself out of curiosity using two differing metals and found i give off about 0.6 volts at about 20 milliamps, using a small capacitor it charges fine, I then used multiple ones in parallel and it also charges quick, when i disconnect it from myself then shift the capacitors into series i can flash a small led. Whats a good circuit for doing this automatic when a charge is built up? Also are there any other good low power things I could do with it? Solar power is great but wouldn't it be cool if we could also use our own ambient body energy to do low energy stuff!

Ok so I had some trouble sleeping the other night, in fact I had an awful lot of trouble and ended up not sleeping for for near enough 48 hours, not unusual for me considering all the stuff happening but read on... I had sprained or stretched almost every muscle in my upper body before this happened and it had been hurting like hoohah just to move, I sit up reading etc for several hours and then descend to start the monrings activities and I noticed that all of a sudden everything has healed, even the massive pain in my shoulder from a fight during which my arm got twisted to almost dislocation... Any theories on why this might have happened, the only thing I can think of is the fact that by being awake and not moving too much it was like sleep as far as healing goes but my metabolism was higher since I wasn't sleeping... Does that sound plausible?

Do you remember the first time that you ate asparagus (Asparagusic acid) and being amazed at the burning rubber smell that came from your piddle within minutes of eating? Also I get a Sugar Puffs smell from real coffee and red wee from beetroot (betacyanins). Recently I have discovered that a handful of fenugreek will give an awful smell reminiscent of maple syrup gone wrong (3-hydroxy-4,5-dimethylfuran-2(5H)); cumin also. So my question is: has anybody here discovered any other foodstuffs that do the job? This is the level of excitement that I'm living to at the moment. ps I've just read that fenugreek is used to turn sugar syrup into fake maple syrup.

I've been toying with using TEC chips (facinating devices that are cheap - applying voltage make one side hot - the other cold, Inversely, appling any existing temprature differential to the sinks PRODUCES POWER). They are used most commonly by consumers in auto beverage coolers and heaters. It started when a car ran me down on my bike, and I was wearing a neck brace for months. I thought about how misserable I'd be if it were summertime. I also thought of those poor people that always wore them... Anyway, there's a thousand different easy ways to do this - I took fluid-filled plastic sections of a beverage cooler and attached them to a belt, which hangs around my neck. applied the heat sink of the TEC and there you go - just wrap it in something. Now if I were on a motorcycle in summer and stopped in traffic, the cool collar would be a lifesaver, as well as a myriad of other apps. I cannot figure out the best (inexpensive) way to control this. It's easy enough to turn on and off - you can hardly forget it! But if I allow the chip to get too much wattage it will get too hot and self-destruct. Also, if I limit the wattage correctly, it would just need adjusting, and could be left on most of the time. The idea here is there are many ways to do this but they are too expensive... I want everyone to be able to afford it. If you use a Pot or resistor, the excess goes to heat and ruins battery life, and other controllers of DC current are expensive. Any help? I am almost 60 and have earned the nickname Misc. Expert among my family and friends, and I must say I'm very impressed with what y'all do here in this newsletter - Congrats!

You've heard of geo-thermal energy, but what about homeo-thermal energy? I know I sure haven't, mostly because I just made up that word :) Bad portmanteaus aside, what do you guys think of this concept? Running or charging things using the body heat you generate throughout the day and especially during the night. I'm not sure how plausible it actually is, or how efficient it is, but I thought it'd be a nice project to start working on and wanted to know what you guys think of it. Is it worth-while? Too complicated? Not scientific enough? I'm interested in your feedback! :)

My son and I are working on his science fair project which is to light a light bulb using a piece of copper pipe, a piece of galvanized pipe, and two wires with alligator clips to connect the light bulb. The theory is that holding the two pipes in ones hands, the body will create enough current to light the bulb. We have not had any success yet. Even wetting our hands had no noticeable affect. Any ideas? Is this a plausible theory?

It seemed a bit poorly so I couldn't examine it too much; I put it on some flowers outside. The last picture is from my google search for " furry beetle".

I bought a nice futaba controller set from Hobby Town USA and built a RC Hovercraft with it. It was a failure, so I took it apart. I now would like to tackle something easier, like an RC Car. There is less worry about weight on one of these, like there is on a hovercraft. What would be the best material to use to build the frame? I was thinking PVC, but I'm no expert. Thanks!

So I'm going to be making a full-body space armour type costume (Samus from Metroid Prime) eventually and I want to try to design an active cooling system that isn't too heavy, can be concealed within the costume, doesn't require too much replacing of coolant , and doesn't use obscene amounts of energy. I know the way it's done in commercial active cooling vests is that they run ice water through plastic tubes in a vest. The problem with this is that there is a big, huge tank of water with a big pump that the vest is tethered to and it needs to be plugged into an outlet. The way I'm thinking of doing it is by putting a network of copper wires in the garment I'll be wearing under the armour that lead to a cooling system in the back of the suit that, right now, I'm thinking will involve ice packs and/or a fan array. I feel like it might not work, so the alternative is to design a custom water or liquid cooling system. I'm planning on using lithium ion batteries for the cooling system and lights if I can. Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi... :-) I am in a mariachi band and play an acoustic instrument called a guitarron. Sometimes at gigs it is too noisy or too large a venue that it is difficult to hear the acoustic instruments and singer w/out mics and would like to try and make my guitarron into a portable speaker system which has ample space to add hardware. I am looking forward to reading all the fantastic, innovative ideas (even the sarcastic with, if any), but would like to: *Keep the weight at a minimal level (as I will be carrying my instrument) *Allow inputs for a mic and 1/4" jack (1/4" my guitarron has thanks to an "instructables user", which works great!) *Allow for mp3 input *Battery powered, if possible Also the speaker will have to be small to fit through the sound hole, but if needed for better, louder sound I can make an opening to the body to allow for a larger speaker. And if anyone has any other suggestions or a similar idea to what I want to achieve, please post it... Thanks to all who have taken the time to read my project idea!!! Hopefully it is possible and not too far-fetched...

I have a design for original body armor, but I don't know where to buy it or get it built. Think of a nomex survival suit, but Dragon Skin and Kevlar for fabric covering underneath armor, 2nd layer U.S.A. brand or Japanese exoskeleton suit with titanium caseing, 3rd layer graphene and dragon skin for plates covering entire body like a full body mold but cut in pieces for flexibility. Where can I get this built or how can I build it precisely. It will last against a FN FAL. I live in McAllen Texas. I prefer professionally made, so any suggestions. I have no budget.
