Breathing Lamp

Hi, does anyone know where to get a lamp that automatically dims on and off continuously or any suggestions with how to make one? I'm working on an installation project for a human scale lamp that looks like it is breathing. Thanks, Heidi

CO2 breathing animals?

Obviously from what we see today, evolution branched off into two sides, the co2 producers, and the co2 users.  Now all animals that walk or swim the earth today breath in oxygen and out co2.  It may sound crazy, but have we not even attempted to produce oxygen making creatures.  Evolution just didn't really branch off to this kind of creature and it would be very difficult to create.  Todays Autotrophs don't produce enough energy for a large animal.  Trees and small single cell organisms use tiny amounts of energy, but could a hybrid allotroph, which gets the majority of its energy from eating like a normal cow, but then it also uses co2 and sunlight maybe, and then you can eat it.   Just a crazy thought that has always bugged me.

DIY Scuba Tank (breath underwater)

I need some advice. I have a great idea that would be amazing if it worked. I want a small scuba/air tank whatever you want to call it (like a scuba secondary tank or a paintball co2 tank) that i can use to mess around with in a pool. I dont want to be constantly breathing, just enough to take a deep breath, go underwater and hold it for a minute, release air from the tank-take a breath, hold it, take another breath from the tank, hold it, and so on. Just enough to get a few breaths and be under water to last me for 5 or 10 minutes. The only thing is i dont want to have to fill it at a dive shop or from a tank that has to be filled at a dive shop like scuba secondary tanks. i want to rig it to fit a bike pump (which probably will not have enough psi to get the amount of air i want) or my air compressor. So i would like advice and also would i need an air regulator since im not constantly breathing? what could i use as a regulator if i need one at all?

What do we breathe? Answered

OK, so I know that we breathe oxygen and nitrogen. I know that nitrogen takes up about 79% of the air. I know that oxygen by itself is a poison. What I want to know is: which gasses do we normally breathe, and what is the percentage of each that we breathe so that we aren't poisoned?

is it possible? Breathing underwater without a tank...

Hi all, Could it be possible to make a device that lets you breath underwater like the fishes do? Think about something in the lines of a wearable filter off some sort that scrubs Oxigen from water molecules... So, if that would be possible, how would one make such a device??? Just wondering.

Requesting feedback on a Fire Breathing Dragon test I did in metal wire.

I did this as a test, so no need to grind my gears about the lack of detail or the unfinished wings. Of course, if you feel passionately about it, feel free to grind my gears good and hard. I'd still like to know what ya'll think. Go to the link below for much larger pic if the thumb interests you at all...the thumb is almost useless. http://imageshack.us/a/img267/5623/firetesta.jpg Size wise, in its pose, there's just over 8" between wing tips, just over 5" head to tail, the "stream of fire" is about 5" long out of the mouth...the head is only 3/8" long by 3/16" wide. Made it with some stiffer than I'd expect steel wire I got at the dollar store ages ago, it's about half a millimeter wide...so it's around 24/25 AW/SW gauge I guess. The legs do look a little awkward in the picture, not at all in the hand or other pictures...but I couldn't get them to look right at the viewing angle I wanted to show...so anyway. Imagine it flying overhead burning a village or cooking a cow for dinner. Cheers.

sudden infant death syndrome, baby breath monitor

Hello everyone, I am a first year Mechatronics engineering student. Well, I don't know where to ask about such stuff, but my question is: As a new oncle, I see my brother & wife worried about the sudden infant death syndrome, so like the baby stop breathing when his sleeping, so like every time he coughs or so, they get really stressed. For such a reason, I want to develop for them a 'breath monitor system' For that, how shoud I proceed ? should I use pressure sensor under him, to know if he is breathing or not, then if he isn't, make an 'alarm signal' ? Or.. some t-shirt / 'chest wearable' he wear, to see if his chest is moving, or not ? is it simple enough that I can learn about arduino / sensors & do it alone ?  I had many questions.. hope I ll get some answers Many thanks !

How could I build a mask that can breath out fog?

I am wondering if there is a way to make a mask with some sort of built in 'fog machine' of sorts. A way that I can breath out a fog like vapor from the mouth of the mask that is safe to breath in. I intend on making the mouth of the mask able to open and close by attaching the bottom jaw to my jaw to allow it to open when my mouth opens and close when it closes. I already fairly certain that dry-ice is entirely out of the equation as breathing in the vapors produced can be harmful.

I Found A Cure To Hiccups

I just had the hiccups ten minutes ago and used this cure, it works for once!(unlike most cures ;-) ) Take a deep breath into your lower lungs and hold it there, not in your mouth. Then, still holding your breath, clench all your stomach muscles and hold for a few seconds. Finlly, let out your breath, and your hiccups are gone! Do you have good cures?

Electric didgeridoo

Bored with traditional digeridoos, Kyle Evans made this electronically modified, Bluetooth PVC didgeridoo. The Bluetooth allows him to not be tethered to a computer and the controls on the sides allow him to modify the sounds in the middle of a performance. It takes a lot of breath to power the 4.5 foot didgeridoo, but with a feedback feature he can keep the sound going and catch a breath, which is a little easier than the typical circular breathing. This took 3 months for him to build at a cost of $300. You can hear a sample of it in action here. You Built What?! The Electronic Didgeridoo

Apparently, I'm a hipster heathen for breathing new life into old videogames/accessories...

So, a few "purists/elitists", have decided I'm a "hipster heathen", solely for the Advantage Clocks and Lamps I create. (My first Instructible provides tech on how to create the original lamp.) I'm destroying a "limited" number of these things. I wonder if they really understand how many of these there really are. I consider it a rescue, and re-purpose, honestly. I gather these from numerous dusty places, and I've even found some of the broken ones in a dumpster one time. I always go for broken before working, but do they seriously think all of these would be hooked up to working systems and being used? How many would be in a landfill? My original is still alive and kicking. I wonder about theirs.

Attic insulation-should I insulate floor to ceiling?

I am in Conn. and the person helping me has said the roof needs to breath. This is a 4th story on a 3 family house. It is A shaped. I plan on covering the insulation after to finish the space off for storage. I think this will keep the 3rd floor warmer. The floor is insulated, but I wanted to do the wall which makeup the pitch of the roof. I have never heard of the roof needing to breathe before. Is this true or can I go ahead and insulate everything?

"The meaning of life and reasons of living. "

They are just four letters L-I-F-E...Based on just these letters,is life that short indeed? No...it is just a short word ,but the meaning of it is not that short, moreover it's quite long. Can someone tell me what does life mean? I think i know,or at least i will try to explain as i see it and as far as  i have experienced it till now. Everyone says that life is short...but do you know anything else that lasts longer than this? Actually, life is the longest experience full of most unknown surprises that  we find ourselves in while we are breathing. Its the longest experience we are part of without having the chance of taking or leaving it.  Life is the hardest exam and the only one in which you can not cheat even if you try.  It is the theater we all are actors of,where everything happens in front of our eyes, around us and most of times suddenly it takes our breath away. Breathing does not mean we are leaving a life. Breathing helps us understand and realize that we all have reasons that keep us alive day by day. Do i have reasons?! Of course, i do! I do have my own reasons for still breathing. It is maybe only one, maybe one hundred, maybe more or less than this. I  do not  really know how many reasons i have, but it does not matter. I may not see these reasons, but sometimes i do feel what i am still breathing for. I can feel why i am looking up at the stars every night. I can feel the reason i am walking on the streets every day. Everything that happens has a specific reason. My most important one is love. That is the love i have for my life i am living and for everyone who is part of my world. I see it as the stongest feeling that makes you live in Earth touching the sky. Another reason of living my life is hope. The hope for a better day,and for a successful future makes me breath deeply. The belief of having a power to  make  a difference even if someone do not and will not  understand me keeps me alive. The beauty of life makes me wake up happily every morning and enjoy the new day that comes. My stubbornness makes  me fight for everything i want each day. I am enjoying every moment of my life. I am still breathing because i do not feel lonely, but that does not mean my life is depended on anyone's . Nobody's perfect,we all make mistakes, but not everyone regrets. That happens just because some people still think about how much fun they had while  making  the mistake. I am open to anyone that gives me advice, but as i do not judge anyone for anything they have done ,i do not want to be judged also. It is me and that is my life and i have my own reasons for everything i do. While most of people will be commenting on my desicions about my life,i will be waving them from the stars.....

Well I woke up this morning and I still have the pains now. Whats goin on? Please note that I have EE and i don't know if that could link to this in anyway.

how do i make nitrous oxide? Answered

Having seen mythbusters, i am curious how the stuff is made. during my internet searches, it is made by heating ammonium nitrate to ~250C. from watching the episode, i know there is more to it than just that. I am under the influence that everything else that was done was purifying the stuff. i am mainly curious about how this is done and whether or not the stuff is toxic, dangerous, addictive, or anything else of the sort that would make it bad to breathe. I will be honest, if the stuff is not dangerous, i will slowly and carefully attempt to make the stuff and maybe breathe a little of it in the curiosity of what it does. for those who don't know, nitrous oxide is also called "laughing gas."

Monitoring a baby with an Arduino and some sensors. Ideas?

Hi dear lads and gals, I'm working on my Electrical Engineering bachelors thesis and it evolved into something that I couldn't have foreseen. I'm trying to build a baby monitoring package that would involve 3 major things; Baby's -Temperature changes -Breathings -Positions in the crib (in or out) and all these should be controlled through a mobile app. I have a couple of challenges. First of all there can't be wires all around the place to detect these changes and I'm not quite lost about how the package would be. I've experimented on a waterproof ds18b20 temperature sensor (got the temperature saved on a web server) and a flex sensor (thought of planting it under the crib) so far. For the breathings I thought of using a microphone but didn't really get my hands around that. What better sensor there are that would simplify the process? What should this package consist of? Any ideas/directions are welcome!

But i cant find any instructables to teach me how to make these....Can anyone help or can anyone direct me to a few instructables that could be used to tweak to work for this purpose? - To help show how the astronauts have to regulate their atmosphere in the ISS or even explain how we don't breathe just oxygen - we breathe a combination of O2 and Nitrogen since Earth's atmosphere is mostly nitrogen.
