Subcontrabass Guitar - to build or not to build?

Hey all you musicians, and especially guitar players! I am currently planning the next version of my Prism Laser Guitar (vote for me if you like it!) and I need some opinions. The next version will hopefully sound very much like a real guitar, not a synthesizer. It will also be capable of playing chords among other tricks the first version couldn't do. However, due to physical and monetary restraints, it will have to be a 4-string bass guitar of some sort. That's fine with me - I love bass!So here's the idea: Unhindered by the physical limitations of a vibrating string, I am free to tune the bass as low as I want. I'm thinking of giving it a C#, F#, B, E tuning, with a bottom note of 17.5Hz. That's lower than pretty much any bass you can get, opening up a whole playground of super bass notes to drive neighbours up the wall. ;)Is that something people would be interested in? Or should I stick to a standard bass tuning range?

Build Counter

An additional feature that I would like to see would be a build counter. I know you can favourite things, but a lot of people dont actually get round to building these things so I'd like to be able to see how many people have actually built the item. For example, I built a lightbox table from one of the links; I left him comments telling him I built one, but I think it would be a cool feature if I could look at an instructable and see how many people have built it. You could even link to a gallery where people photos of their build.

Build Yacht

Hi, my friends and I want to build a small yacht. We are beginners, so we dont have previous experiences in building such things. I just graduated with Mechanical Engineering degree from Polytechnic University of New York and my other friend is a handy man and he had experiences in fixing boats and yachts, another friend has experience in Mechanical Engineering design industry, he graduated couple years ago. We want to build it from scrap materials, we are thinking to get an old boat or yacht now and use that material to build our. I found this website may be you have an opinion on this web site. We are looking for any good advises for the beginners, any good literature on that topic. Another big problem we dont know where to build it. We are welcome enthusiasts like we are specially people who have some place to build it in our area (NYC, Long Island, New Jersey.)

Building a Computer

So, in continuing my series of stupid newbie computer questions, I present: Building Your Own Computer!-The Computer-As you've heard, I first had a computer that messed up, then I took it to the computer dudes, and they said it was completely FUBAR, then I asked how I should salvage it. Now, after laying my eyes on the beautiful Linux-running $72 Computer, I said to myself that I should make one...-What I Have-I stripped my computer tonight, and I came up with a CD drive (doesn't burn, just reads), Floppy drive, hard drive, power supply (how the heck do I understand all those wires?), nice looking heatsink with matching fan, and various other parts from the Windows 98 computer. -The Problems--I checked the links provided at the link above, and the prices had either raised, the item is out of stock, or the item had vanished completely...-I would like to buy a minimum of parts because I am in debt with my parents, and being 13, I don't have a job to pay them off.-I would like to run Linux, as it is one of the coolest things I've found recently. -I do know that the link above is thumb-drive booted, and I would like to avoid that, but no biggie if I can't.-I also don't know that much about computers, so I want to keep the computer sweet and simple. -The components that I salvaged might not work with the new components (I.E. Motherboard)-Maybe more.-Pluses--It will be cheap.-Case mods should be easy.-Mistakes dont cost much.-Linux is free.-Linux looks very nice.-It shouldn't need much RAM to run (Am I correct here?), so I can run more complex programs without it costing me.-I have extra parts from the old Win98 computer that died.-Probably more, but this is all I got right now...First postSecond postI am saying this right now- I suck at understanding computers, and if possible, comment to me like you would your 93 year old grandpa.

Credit Building?

I'm 19, and have no credit history. I was considering getting a Wells Fargo Secured Credit card, and securing it with the $300 minimum collateral. What would be the best way to build credit with it? I was going to treat it like my debit card, only paying for things like gas, coffee here and there, and maybe a night out or two a month; then paying back the full amount I owe every month. Would that be a wise choice?  And how quickly could I improve my score?

Building a computer.

Hi :DMy old computer has died and I'm planning on just ripping it apart and salvaging bits and bobs for a new build, Here's my plan:CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo Desktop Processor E8600Graphics card: GeForce 9800 GX2RAM: 4GBWiFi card: some brand, i haven't researched yetCase: Jeantech JNR-105 Luna ATXMy main problem is i cant decide on which Motherboard... do motherboards come with their own power supply? I think a 500 watt power supply would be more suited than the current 300 watt. which leads me to another question, can people recommend cooling options? (not water cooling though, i dont trust it enough to have hundreds of pounds of hardware surrounded by water)

Building A Table

So I want to build me a table for my patio. I found one that I really like, but I have some questions about it. The table is in the pictures below. Its legs are made of hard-fired terra-cotta, its a chimney flue. I was wondering if the table top would be sturdy enough on it. Like if someone was leaning on one end of it would thje other end raise up. Does any one have any suggestion for a nice table similar to this one, or something else I could use for the legs?

Snowman Building!

As most of you probably know, we have been having alot of snow this last week in the UK. We have been saving up our snow in the back garden as we both work, and normally get home after the sun has set. Today being a weekend meant that we could make good use of all that snow! The snowman is called pepper, as we use pepper to do his mouth and eyebrows. (take note of his cool icicle hair, we were going to call him spike, but we already named our christmas tree that) gmjhowe + Rainbow_Han

Building a Steambike

And I may need a little help! Wondering if anyone knows of any decent resources for materials, how-to, etc. I have this piece of crap bike from Target that's been sitting in my basement since the dawn of time, and I thought I'd scrap it out and convert it into a steambike. The only things that I'll probably be using from the old bike are the frame and possibly the wheels. I'm debating on whether or not I want to try and use the chainset somehow... If anybody knows any good resources, lemme know!

Building a Windmill

I live on top of a tall hill were the wind is always blowing at a constant 10 mph, and my electric bill keeps going up and up. So, the idea I have was to make a windmill that is powerful enough to generate between 8000 watts to 12000 watts. I want the design to be efficient, but at the same time not an eye sore. I figured that that just one windmill would need a 20ft propeller so I am leaning more to a series of windmills. I need some more information on the cost, and the design aspects of one or more windmills. If anyone has experience on this subject I would appreciate any information.

Building a genertor? Answered

I have a 5sme22nj028a general electric motor and wanted to buld a generator. It is 10 pin (not including earth). I have used a voltmeter to see what generate but there are many combonations and they all seem to generate. Also it is brushless. I have posted this question before but fogort to include that the motor says varable speed on the side. I was thinking that connecting diffrent pins would make the motor go at diffrent speeds. In my other question someone said that it may need a mirco prosser before it. I think that this is probaly the case but wanted to see if anyone knew about this motor. So if it needs or doesnt need a micro prosessor before it, please tell me. I should be able to work it out from there. Thanks

Building a fence

I am going to construct a fence between my garage and my house. 20 ft or so long, To keep my too small dogs contained. Here in lies the rub, I have already built one fence. it's still up and working fine, however in the construction I discovered how dense the crete is, ramset doesn't work, drilling? I would never get deep enough. So I have decided to use cement piers and 4x4 posts and sit the fence right on the concrete, with enough weight I am praying the fence will not move much, I only need to contain two 5# dogs its mostly ornamental. If anyone has attempted anything along these lines, please contact me with your triumphs and failures, or any advice you may have thanks!

Building a Foundry?

So I've been experimenting with building a mini foundry made out of steel cans. I've experimented with several different fuels, fuel injection systems, oxygen injection systems, crucibles, and different metals. However, the only metal I've ever been able to melt with it is zinc. (if you don't know, zinc doesn't take alot to melt; only about 700F) My target metals are aluminum and copper, but despite over a year of experimenting, I've never been able to melt either. I would like to know what I'm doing wrong, or what I could do better. Here's the rundown of the furnace's construction: The fuel I'm currently using is propane. The foundry isn't big, (you could fit it in a backpack) so I just use propane canisters for torches with a normal output line on the end. The line runs to a small piece of glass laboratory tubing with a tiny nozzle on the end which is about 1 mm in diameter. The propane shoots out as a stream and mixes with air utilizing the venturi effect. The propane mix then shoots into a large metal pipe about 2 cm in diameter. It then bends up at a 90 degree angle and enters the furnace, which is in essence, a steel can with a hole in the bottom. inside this is a steel can cut in half with a thick wire through it to suspend it above the burner.  So what could be improved? When I run it at full blast, the whole furnace glows orange, but no metal melting happens...

Fancy stereo build?

Hi everyone, So I recently purchased a new house and it has these built-in speakers in every room. Thing is that I dont have a fancy stereo or something to hook it up to, so I wanted to build something myself. I wanted to build a device that could be controlled through an old smartphone I have laying around, via bluetooth. On which I can then select songs on Spotify or radio etc. And it should also allow me to switch between which speakers I want to use. (Each one has a separate cable) Does anybody have any ideas on how to do this? Or is there maybe something on the market matching my descripion that I can buy? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Kind regards.
