Pushing that button

Hey guys, Just wondering if any of you lovely people can help me out here. I'm looking for a fairly simple/cheap thing to build that will press a button continuously on my keyboard (not a program, I need a real life presser ;) ) If the timing could be varied that'd be a plus! Thanks for any ideas in advance, :D

New button!

We need a new button on instructables pages...a printer friendly button! Like you see on other sites, you would click it and it would give you a nice, cleaned up, ads and image free, printer friendly version of the 'ible. What do you think?EDIT:aHA! I found it! But Canida is right, it dosen't turn out perfect. And, IMO, it needs to be way more prominent. It was like where's Waldo or something!:D

The AWESOME Button

Matt Richardson over at Make made an awesome button from the Staples Easy Button. When pushed, the reprogrammed button randomly selects a synonym to the word 'awesome', perfect for thinking of new (awesome?) words to include in a description when writing. As an added bonus, Instructables' own Scoochmaroo is (sorta) referenced briefly @0:20 Check out the video and make one yourself: via: MakeMagazine YouTube Chanel

Blog Buttons

I have had a blog for 3 years and have been on Instructables for just under 3 months. What I would like is an Instructables Blog Button, that I could put on my blog, so when a person who visits my blog, they can push the button and be taken to Instructables.com. My computer skills have barely grown to the point of knowing how to add a button to my blog. May someone should create an Instructable on how to create such a button. I would do it, if someone would teach me how! Thanks.

Vote button?

I noticed that with some contests (at least in the April Fools contest) there is no vote button in the Instructable. This is a disadvantage for those who aren't the most viewed because people have to go through a ton of pages just to find the vote button for the Instructable they want to vote on. Make sure that no future contests (especially the laser cutter contest, it has over 300 entries) are like this. It is disappointing and very annoying.

Random Button

Instructables is in desperate need of a "Random Ible" button. I find that about 90% of the time that I've been browsing lately, I can never find something that is just intriguing. It would be useful to be able to click a button and be randomly sent to an Instructable on the database so I could find the interesting kinds of things that are hidden 10 pages in or more. It would be even better if there could be a classification with them that allows it to work like StumbleUpon, finding those projects that interest you based off of your taste. Am I the only one who wants such a button?

Remote button presser

Hi :) I will try make this short. I´m a taxi driver in Denmark and have a little problem. When a customer calls for a cab I receive it on my screen and press a button to accept it. I have 10 sec to press accept and if i´m not sitting in the car then i take my remote receiver that makes a sound so i can jump in the car and press accept. Most of the time i don´t make it to the car because i only have 10 seconds.  So i could really use a little thing to press the button for me. It could be something that reacts to the sound and clicks the button, or it could be an extra receiver/transmitter that i press manually. The button is almost like pressing a keyboard button and it doesn´t matter if it its pressed without me getting an order.

Hi As usual, every morning I start my Chrome browser with gmail and instructables tabs. This morning I was looking for the recent i'bles, to find out the "Recent" button is missing from the drop-down Explore menu. Arduino button problems

Hello, I am trying to use two buttons to control a variable, When one is pressed the number goes up but when the other is pressed it goes down. But, this doesn't seem to be working, it goes up fine but when i want to come back down it increases by one and then goes down. I don't know why it is increasing by one but then going down. Any help will be helpful. the code is here: int button = 8; int button_two = 7;; int val = 0; int val_two = 0; int numb = 0; void setup() {   pinMode(button, INPUT);   pinMode(button_two, INPUT);   Serial.begin(9600); } void loop() {   val = digitalRead(button);   val_two = digitalRead(button_two);     if (val == HIGH) {     Serial.println(numb);     numb=numb+1;     delay(300);     } else if (val_two == HIGH) {     Serial.println(numb);     numb=numb-1;     delay(300);     } else {     numb=numb;   } } Thanks.

An "I did this!" button

Hey I was just wondering about an "I did this" button. You could click it on the instructables you actually went and did.  Then you could look back and see all the instructables you have done. I feel it would encourage you to do some instructables. Perhaps people could see who has done an instructable and ask them for help.  If you've ever been on the site 43 things they have this feature.

Wireless Button Pusher

Hello all, I am trying to add/build a wireless button pusher to a grain management device on my farm. The device cannot be hacked into or tampered with, however, the button I am trying to push requires little force and does not need to be sustained. It only needs to hit the button when I hit a remote. Additionally, I cannot use a phone for this (my grandfather needs to be able to operate it as well and could not use a phone) So I would need to be able to connect two simple remotes.  Any and all suggestions welcome.

I tried with Chrome and Firefox but the problem is the same one. Am I the only one having this issue?

A Read Later button

Hey! I just want to suggest that the instructables team adds a "read later" (or something similar like "want to do") button that bookmarks an instructable you're interested so you can check it out later because sometimes you want to build a project and don't have the materials on hand,so with a read later button you can come back to the instructable later without a lot of searching for the exact one you were planning on doing. Not sure if this is in the right place so please redirect if it isn't. Thanks!

I'd like some instructions on how to make a button that plays the same 2-3 second audio sound when it is pressed. It should be able to last for a pretty long while if you know how to do that. I want it to look like it's DIY and not from a factory but also good enough that someone would put it on their desk.  I need the cheapest possible way to do this as well as instructions for a dummy who doesn't know much about technology. adding a push-button

Howdy! I'd appreciate any advice regarding this potential project.  I would like to take a regular old basic laser pointer and hack it so that I can turn it on and off with a push button, at a short distance, and connected by wire.  The original device may have a rubber button on the side or back, or maybe it's turned on with a twist, or maybe something else. That would have to be left 'on' -- or, better yet, bypassed.  Because I want to be able to activate it by pressing and holding down a button, just like a doorbell. (I suppose flashlights and any number of other devices would work similarly.) For the project I have in mind, having the switch hard-wired to the device would be fine, but naturally I'd love to hear about anyone's wireless ideas! Thanks so much!!!!!

Carbon Button Lamp

The Nikola Tesla group forum is asking for new projects, so I'm posting this as a suggestion. I would love to build it myself, but I lack the tools and money. This is my first contribution to Instructables, so please comment constructively. Nikola Tesla invented the Carbon Button lamp as a kind of incandescent light, because Thomas Edison banned him from using his incandescent filament bulbs. Nikola later discovered that versions of it could also be used in wireless, trans-Atlantic telegraphy, and to investigate what we now call x rays. In fact, he even used the lamp (or something similar to it) to take x-ray photographs, 8 years before Wilhelm Rotgen discovered them. For this reason, I must warn you: this device may possibly generate x rays. I am not responsible for any harm of any kind that may or may not result from re-creating this interesting device. There are phosphors that you can buy that will absorb x rays and re-emit them as visible light. I recommend that you coat the bulb with it until you know for sure that the x rays aren't strong enough to hurt you, or if makes x rays at all. Mixing it with a phosphor made for uv light wouldn't hurt either. Theory of Operation:The bulb is powered by a Tesla Coil, or other source of high voltage, high frequency current, such as a driver for a plasma globe (actually, the modern plasma globe is descended from this kind of technology!)When the power is turned on, electricity bombards the carbon button. Because carbon isn't the best conductor, this causes the button to heat and release electrons into the bulb's vacuum (the technical name for this is "thermionic emission," or the "Edison effect") . These electrons, in turn, excite the remaining air molecules and cause them to create visible light. This is strikingly similar to how fluorescent lamps work!Supposedly, the bulb should shine 10 times brighter than an incandescent bulb.(Note that the excitation of the air molecules, not the incandescence of the button, is actually the main source of light from the bulb.)If anyone decides to build it, please post an instructable showing the steps and finished product. I suggest you get started by reading the patent, number 514,170. You may also want to read part of Tesla's lecture, "Experiments with Alternate Currents of High Potential and High Frequency."To anyone who will attempt this, I wish you good luck!
