Spy Cam?

I have this circuit from an old $20 camera (pic sucks, I was lazy so I used my scanner lol) anyway it requires a computer to capture video (it only holds pictures without one) Is there a way to capture video from it without a computer on me? I'd love to use it as a "spy" cam.....

Cat-cam revisited

Well when I was scrolling through the forums I saw the thread "cat cam" i remembering seeing it once but i didn't comment on it. But anyways that would be awesome. But would there be any way to put it on the cat without it weighing them down? W-burg (I called you that because i don't know how to spell your name) I will remove this if you want me to. Also would this be possible?

I have an x10 Wireless camera system, and it comes with a Video Receiver that just hooks up the the tv with the Yellow video cable and uses a tiny little flat  antenna. Is there anyway to make a signal amplifier that can pick up video from long distances? Please send some advice my way, thanks.   Or even ..is there a site that has them for relatively cheap?

Help building Motorcycle Gyro Cam

This is what a gyro cam on a motorcycle looks like, great hey!, but they are currently too expensive for mere mortals to buy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCOt78MB5vM&feature;=player_embedded Ive been asking for help from my local RC club and a close friend who is a plane engineer & flies RC helicopters, all say this cant be done so im coming here for help cos I know Instructables members know how to do it. My Skills - No electronics or RC experience, but I do make lots of engineering parts on my garage mill and lots of stuff from carbonfibre. My Plan - Was to buy a RC helicopter gyro, servo's, gears & linkage etc and build a platform that could rotate a small bullet cam to be level with the horizon.  But my RC club says it cant be done, so now I dont know what to try. Can anybody help suggest what bare components I need to start experimenting?

So, I was talking about homemade backup cameras for a car. And the question of legality came up. Do they have to be shut off whenever you're in drive, if so, how do the wireless ones that you can buy turn off when you get out of reverse?

Kinetic art help...

Hi! Longtime lurker,1st time poster. I am wanting to make a kinetic work that kinda resembles ghosts... fabric that moves similar to this but more covered like it's someone with a sheet over themselves... I have bought nitinol (.15" gauge), burnt my fingers applying electricity directly (LOL) and thought I'd try a mechanism to pop up similar to a jack in the box or whack a mole, or a cam and follower. I really love the NiTi but I am open to any suggestions from any resourceful peeps here. I am gonna go shopping for toys to open up sometime this week for ideas but in the meantime... The main features I want are: random activation, pop up go back to original position, inexpensive... Thank you in advance for ANY insight, ideas. Much appreciated. Yours truly, The Lurk

How to make a spycam out of my scrap parts or at least find some better scrap to make one ... =P

Hey guys, recently my interest in spy cams has become bigger and i've been searching my whole house top to bottom to find some stuff i could (hopefully) use. so (hopefully) you'll see my pictures now and notice my camera sucks... but apart from that you might notice the parts i found. i used one of my dad's old cellphones to get a tiny tiny camera from (to be precise the phone is a Nokia 6600 from back in the old days =P) but now my problem is unveiled... the camera is as tiny as i hoped it would be. But as you maybe notice, it's socketed (as usual in phone or other small hardware appliances) Now my question (or at least one part of it) would be... can i use the camera with or without the socket... further more... would i be abled to use it at ALL ?? i mean... i'd really love to build a tiny spy cam but i don't think that much of myself as a electronics guys so... tell me what you think. The second part of my question would be this: If by any chance i could build a tiny spy cam and make it successfully work from a distance, i would love to make it remote controllable, not to move it around but to be able to switch it on/off. As you see in the picture's i have (i believe so) the PERFECT thing for that. it's a Remote Control from Lamptron... its a RC4 one.. here come's the tricky part... upon searching the internet... this version is not found... so this makes the project even more impossible So far i have an (probably but hopefully not) unuseable camera and a remote control which shouldn't exist. Well that's quite a bit for a noob like me to handle all by myself... now my question (in total) would be: Can anyone give me answers to both sub-questions, the main questions and provide aid for making the whole thing work like i hope it could? Greetz  and thanx in advance =)

Magnetic Rotor

http://youtu.be/zqG-TL0WnjE How does this device work? Has it ever been on instructables or anything like it? How would I go about mounting the magnets on the rotor? What sort of spring would I need for the magnet mounted to the vertical shaft that slides up and down? In short I want to know every little detail about building it before I begin so I don't go buying a lot of unecessary stuff and waste money.

Making a Wireless Security Camera

Managed to pick up a Swann swpro-642cam night vision security camera. No idea if it works, haven't tested it. But I would like to turn it into a wireless security camera for home. Assuming I would need a transmitter, but I'm not sure what kind. I would prefer to have it so I can just pop it up on my computer or phone, so could I avoid using a receiver and can it be recorded on my laptop as well?

Wireless printer ports to support USB cams

What I would like to see is a mod for one of those little wireless printer port boxes, you know, the ones that you hook up to a USB printer to make it wireless... Anyway, the mod would be to allow it to take a web cam instead of a printer and turn your web cam into a wireless cam that can be placed anywhere. The mod would have to be less expensive than buying the typical wireless cam (~$150.00). Has anyone ever attempted to do this? Would someone like the challenge?? For all us financially limited folks out here, you would be praised and raised to god-like status.... =)

Security Camera For My Dorm Room

I was hoping to find some guidance here about how to make a special surveillance system.   I would like for a web cam(or some other camera of sorts) to monitor my vehicle out front of my apartment though my dorm room window.  I would like for that cam to run independent of a computer, and dump it's video files onto a usb/sd card.  Is this even possible?  I also need help shopping for which webcam would be most suitible(cost effective) for my purposes.  My car is about 20-30 feet away.  I'll attach a pic.(its the red jeep) More Specs: I have an outlet right next beneath the window, so ac power would be great. I have soldering equipment available to me if necessary, but keep it simple if possible. I have 100 bucks to spend. Thanks, Jello-Jigglers

Intercept traffic camera signals

I know a guy who knows a guy (I know, cliche) who was able to combine a cantenna, a lunchbox, and a small monitor, (and some other stuff) and when they stopped at a red light, MacGyver was able to display the image from the camera on the screen. Basically, they were looking at themselves from the point of view of the traffic camera. So, my question is, how easy would this be to do? I'm guessing the right software on a *laptop with a wifi card would suffice. What does everyone else think? *Edited

ink jet printer to cutter?

Ive got an ink jet printer that bust on me a few days ago, and ive always wonered if it would be possible to replace the ink cartrages with a cutting blade and use it as a vinyl/cardboard/anything else you can think of cutter. my school had a vinyl cutter which i used a lot, but i dont have access to that any more. the only problems i can see are things like "how can i get the blade to come off the paper between letters etc? how would it cope with changes in direction? could it be programmed to follow a line instead of the side to side action?" if this wouldnt work, anyone got any other ideas for a cocked up ink jet printer? shame to waste it. attach a laser?? lol. a really budget laser cutter. could the motors and rails be used for anything else? its got a scanner attached too, but i cant think of a use for that, other than turning it into a SAD lamp (seasonal affected disorder). i think it would be bright enough. ideas?

Is it possible to add an A/V input to an old VHS-C camcorder?? I have a helmet-cam but don't have something that I can record to. My digital camcorder doesn't have a/v or d/v input. I could just buy a new camera or dvr but hey, its much more fun trying to hack something old... obviously.

Controlling web cam video frame rate from external trigger

I want to control a video camera to capture between 10 and 40 fps using an external trigger that may vary in real time while video is being captured.  I'd also like to be able to control the "exposure" time for each frame of video, and possibly vary it in real time, while video is being captured. Does anyone know if it is possible to control a web cam this way?  Does varying the frame rate in a video affect playback of the video (will it play at all?).  Are there any specific web cams that lend themselves to this sort of control better than others? Thanks!

Action Cams

Hi all, This is kind of an Outdoors/Tech thread. I work for a nature center and I am developing a watercraft program on our river. To help promote it, I would like to purchase some action cams to mount on canoes and kayaks, and post the videos and images on Facebook and Youtube. I have a $300 budget for these cameras. Ideally, I would like to be able to purchase two cams, including memory and additional accessories (mounts). However, I know that a good quality camera can be pricey, so if absolutely necessary, I will cut this down to one cam. If you are miraculously able to suggest a cam that is priced so that I can buy more than two, I would be amazed and eternally grateful. I do have some requirements: - Waterproof (Preferred camera is waterproof in itself, though an inexpensive case would be fine) - Durable - High Quality Image and video (If the video is shaky, what's the point?) - 2 Hour battery life, though 1-1.5 would be acceptable These are not required though I really would prefer them -View Screen (A lot of these cams have to be plugged into a computer or synced with a smart phone to view. Not great.) - Removable Battery to switch out if one dies. Do you have any recommendations within this price range? Also, what kind of memory would you suggest for about 1-2 hours of footage per camera? Thanks

Help needed to make this spy cam set up

Hi, I would like to make a small spy cam which takes images when a button is pressed and keeps on taking the images until that button is pressed again. I need 4 cameras to be present and it should have 4 microSD slots and cards, so that these images will be stored in this. The camera will be moving when taking the pictures. So I guess it would need high shutter speed to get quality images. So what kind of camera modules it will need and what are the other things I will have to buy to make something like this? Thanks.

3D scanning of small and complicated parts

I am trying to get a proper understanding of the things involved when scanning small parts with features bad for scanning, like circuit boards or things that simply are not as smooth as the test objects seen in tutorials. Due to the limitations I gave up on laser scanning for this although I still prefer it for bigger parts with less features. Photogrammetry works, well sort of... Most programs require the cam to move around the object, which is pretty much useless for parts smaller than 3cm³ in size. But even if the software claims to be able to use turntables I still struggle massively getting any usable results. I had testversions of 3D flow's Zephire and Agisoft Photoscan, both are able to use masks which helps a lot but they struggle with the camera positions. No matter what I do and how I try to cheat the cams are always located at a max of 180° but never the full 360° Agisoft would allow to enter cam positions but the algorthm behind it is beyond my understanding. So far my approach was to mask the background out and if the cam alignment failed (which it always did) to manually add reference points into the single pics. But still no 360° scans but a lot of cams in the exact same location. I know a 8MP DSLR is not perfect but the image quailty is decent enough for all the details. Is there a software out there that is dedicated for turntable use but is no laser scanning software? Or maybe a program / plugin to calculate cam positions for a turntable if the cam location is actually fixed? I mean with a turntable and fixed cam I would expect that all cam positions in the model are at least at the level and distance but in some cases it looked more like a wave pattern. My ultimate goal is to go down in size to about 5mm³ in size, like insects and tiny machine parts. Zephyr Pro seems to be right tool for the job but it out of my reach price wise as I only do 3D as a hobby. 123D and other cloud services fail totally for this task for the obvious reasons of size and fixed cam.

Help make a quacking noise in a wooden toy duck (mechanically, not electronically)

I'm in the process of recreating the LEGO wooden duck toy. I'm only working from a few images I've found online, however; I don't have an actual one to examine. On the originals, the axles operated a couple of mechanisms: the duck head pivots to open and close the beak, and there's a mechanism under the base (I'm assuming) that makes a quacking noise. I've got a pretty good idea how to create a simple cam for the head/beak movement, but I'm not sure how to generate a quacking noise mechanically. My online searches have proved fruitless. Does anyone happen to have one of these vintage LEGO ducks and is willing to snap and share some photos of the mechanisms? Or, does anyone have any good ideas how to make a quacking noise mechanically? My thoughts are a push/pull rod-type crank attached to an axle, but on the other end of the rod . . . not sure.

Make any monitor a touch screen!

Has anyone had any experience in taking a web cam, attaching it to the top of a monitor, then programming it to recognize face and hand movements, sort of how digital cameras today recognize faces, so it can be used to control a mouse. It would be sort of like having a virtual touch screen on any monitor and if someone could do this, I'd bet they'd make a lot of money.

Bluetooth cam using iPod display?

I'm looking for an instructable (or help) to set up a portable camera and display.  I don't know if this is currently feasible, but I would like to use my iPod Touch as a display for a small, battery operated camera.  Wondering if a Bluetooth connection might work.  Wondering if a cel phone might work as a remote camera.  I want this to help me easily back-up my truck and connect to my trailer.  Also to put camera on a stick and put it into walls, attics and crawl spaces in order to see into difficult places.  Also to put on some kind of snake and pass into sewer pipes, etc.  Is there such thing as a Bluetooth transmitter that would work with a battery and a ccd cam? Thanks in advance
