AMEX card not working?

Ive been trying to buy a lab pass for a game Im addicted to. I click the one month option, enter in the info, but it says my credit or debit card is declined! Im using a $50 dollar American Express gift card, but whenever I enter the information it says its declined. So i check on the website, it says everytime I tried (and failed) to use it, it deducts $1. Same for my Visa Gift Card. My mom opened a paypal account for me, but whenever I try it, it says the amount is too great for the card. (its $5.95 ) Does anyone have anyway to fix this?

How to make a RFID bracelet for a travel card (Oyster card)?

Im trying to make a bracelet which incorporates my London Oyster Card (RFID travel card) so i can just swipe my wrist and not faff about with wallets or pockets etc but I am having a few issues. The basic design is going to be simple and effective. I will have a length of regular guage wire around the wrist, secured by a single wire connector/ terminal block (see photo). It will prob be a earth wire, as it is a fancy colour. The RFID will be placed inside the plastic connector and hot glued end end to secure it and keep out the elements. The RFID's aeriel wire will be inside the earth wire heatshrink, it will be a loop of wire and can be as thick as it needs to be. I keep having problems though, I cant get the chip out of the card in one piece. I have been using nail varnish remover but with mixed results.   When/if I do get the RFID chip out of the card, i will need to solder a new aerial and I am unsure about the process. Does the length/gauge of wire matter for the function of the RFID? im thinking about its frequency. Will it need to be ceramic covered wire to avoid shorts? Has anyone put a contactless travel card into other things? Or has any experience dealing with this sort of area? I would very much appreciate any help or advice.

Credit card crystal radio

What do you think about the feasibility of a credit card sized crystal radio? (Fits inside a wallet) Some possible i though so far are... A simple pcb with a diode, and a capacitor and a coil wrapped(protected by duct tape) around it. The antenna has to be tied to a hole on a corner. Or it is coiled to the card, ready to be unwrapped. The ear piece can either be external... Or can be glued to the card itself, but you must put the card near you ear... Instead of a winded coil, maybe it can be part of the pcb design itself... and to tune it, you unhook a beady wire and place it in the holes placed in a interval. What do you think? Any more ideas? In fact. a competition can be made for this idea.

Modifying a Singing Greeting Card

A while ago my wife got one of those singing Hallmark greeting cards. (This particular one played the Law and Order theme song) Well after a while it no longer played the song. I opened it up and found that there is a circuit board inside with a 3v button cell battery attached to it. I removed the board and the speaker and the battery and I'm pretty sure that I could attach wires to the two contact points and connect them to batteries that would complete the circuit and allow the theme song to play again. What I want to know is if I need to take any special consideration when putting in a new battery(s). I was going to try to just put two AA batteries in series (1.5v +1.5v =3v, right?) but I don't actually know anything about electronics and so I wanted to ask here if there were any resistors needed or if there were any differences between the button cell and the AA batteries that would require me to do something different. While we're on the topic of these cards I just thought of a neat project. Design some sort of holder for the circuit boards that would allow them to act as sort of an interchangeable cartridge. Basically detach the speaker wires and battery contacts from various boards out of various cards and design some sort of holder with contacts for the speaker and power source at the appropriate points and be able to change out the different boards. Not really practical but sounds like fun.I just thought of yet another question!Would there be anyway to hook the board up to some sort of audio cable (in place of the speaker maybe) so that I could plug these into a computer and record the song off of the board in a digital format. (Again not very practical but sounds like fun.)Anyway, this is my first post here and I'm sorry if it's a bit jumbled but I don't have a very organized mind and sometimes it's hard to put my ideas down in a succinct manner. I tend to just ramble on incessantly in a train of thought sort of manner until I think that I've said what I think I wanted to say. In closing, I like this site and plan to be around for a while and learn as much as I can. If somebody would like to help me with these ideas/projects I would be happy to provide pictures of the circuit board and pieces that I have if it's necessary.Thanks.~JoshI'm using two AA batteries. I have a wire between the positive side of B1 and the negative side of B2 and wires coming off the open ends. I tried connecting the batteries from the spot where the negative side of the button cell was to the silver rectangle thinking that that would complete the circuit and make music. That didn't work. Then I noticed that the positive connection for the circuit was actually where the clip that secured the battery was before I removed it and that the positive and negative sides of the battery were going through a capacitor before touching the final contact. so I tried placing the positive wire up on the positive contact and then placing a wire from the positive contact to the final contact but that also didn't work. I don't have any solder and have been using electrical tape to secure the wires. The wires are a fairly thin (I don't know the gauge) stranded copper. I'm not sure if the wires aren't making good contact or if I'm just doing something wrong.

Repeating Musical Greeting Card?

Hello all,  I have purchased an inexpensive musical greeting card that plays a song for 20 seconds and then stops. What I am trying to figure out is if there is a way to put a 555 timer on this thing that will send a pulse to repeat the song at 15 seconds. Basically, make it so that the card will repeat the song forever at 15 seconds so that you don't hear the fade out of the song for the last 5 seconds.  Can this be done and if so how? Many thanks!!! File Box for Index Cards

For some time I've been searching on Instructables for how to make a file box for index cards. No matter what word order or word types I used, what came up was making stuff out of index cards, or other odd stuff.  But nothing that got me what I was searching for. How to make a file box for index cards, needs to be basic & simple, not laser cutting (as don't have such). However, do have a box cutter, packing tape, handheld power tools: circular saw, saber saw, drill, just no tabletop tools, & no way to make, & no room to put any tabletop for such. I've looked at the Snap-N-Store collapsible index card file boxes, & have head/read by customer reviews that the snaps don't necessarily stay snapped.  I'm thinking if made w/cardboard or fiberboard (as the Snap-N-Store is) that something like corner brackets/braces (just not metal ones for wood)  can be used instead of snaps, & would hold together better. The Snap-N-Store boxes I'm wanting hold 1000 cards ea, & for ea size of index card 3X5, 4X6, & 5X8 I just need some help for a pattern & building instructions. Can anyone do an Instructable for such so I can follow & make them? Remember, I don't have, nor get access to, nor know how to use a laser cutter, or tabletop powertools. I just have handheld powertools of circular saw, saber saw, drill, & boxcutter, scissors & the usual handtools & hardware. Thanks

Cheap phone cards with no expiration?

I want to be able to call international (middle east) from my cell phone (T-mobile prepaid) without being charged ridiculous amounts. I want something that i can leave in my wallet for a year and not have to worry about it being expired when I need it. The picture is totally unrelated, its a windmill

How do I bypass a card-reader type security system?

I'm trying to find a way to bypass the security system in my building, a simple card-reader setup. Really more a prank than not.  My boss has been watching my card and logging the times it's accessed, I want to show him that he can't trust the card.  Nothing nefarious, just proof that I can be around and not have to access my card.  If it helps, the security company is Datawatch.

Replace sounds on greeting card sound module

Hello, I recently purchased this item from ebay. It's a "30s Light Sensor Record Device Module Music Box Sound Chip For Greeting Card" It comes with a pre-recorded happy birthday song. Now I want to change that song and I am pretty sure it can be done somehow, because I can see some connections available, except I am not sure what they mean and how to use them. The seller responded that there is no documentation and if I want certain sounds I have to send them the files and they will record them for me before shipping... which is ridiculous... I want to be able to change the songs when I please. The connections marked on the board say: TG1 TG2 TG3 GND VDD PW1 and PW2 Any suggestion could help.

The video card in my Toshiba laptop died. If I can get another one, what are the odds I can install it myself?

Toshiba Tecra, in use about six months when the picture went.  I've been told putting a new piece on a laptop motherboard is next to impossible, but I've fixed a lot of things that couldn't be fixed, so I'm skeptical.  It's been in pieces in my den for 3 or 4 years.  Is there a workaround for video output, like use the card from another machine?

End Zone card game (a great card game I made up)

END ZONE The Card Game End Zone is a fun card game using strategy while choosing a way to win. Here's one of the most interesting facts about End Zone: Only one deck is needed to play. Each deck must have exactly 100 cards. At the bottom is the Blackout card, or End Zone card. The blackout card has no picture. Each deck must have one blackout card. Each blackout card is placed at the bottom of the deck and must be shown to each player before being placed there. The whole point of the game is to get your opponent to draw the blackout card. But there is a catch. At no time can you look through the deck to see where the blackout card is. Any cards that were played are sent to the bottom of the deck at the end of the controller's turn unless stated otherwise. This is where strategy comes in. You will have to remember how many cards were already played in order to make an accurate guess where the blackout card is. Here are the basic steps to playing. 1.Each player draws three cards a the beginning of the game. Because there is only one deck, you would have to synchronize between draws meaning that you would draw a card, then your opponent would draw a card, then you would draw your second card, and so on. This only makes it fair. When it is your turn: 1.Draw one cards. 2.You must play one card. You are allowed to activate a card during the first turn. 3.Discard two cards `to the bottom of the deck. 4.End turn. When it is your opponents turn: 1.Opponent draws two cards. 2.If you have a card that has a lightning bolt in the top corner, you can play it after your opponent draws. 3.Opponent makes move. Once again, cards with a lightning bolt can be played. 4.Opponent discards two cards. 5.Opponent ends turn.
