Electronic catapult?

Okay. I'm going to make an electromagnet to hold the spring in place while it's compressed, and then as the power turns off, the spring will release and shoot the catapult. However, I'm not an engineer-- I'm making this for tech class. How should I design the catapult so that this will work as a triggering mechanism? In what way should I set up the spring and electromagnet relative to each other? Thanks in advance.

How Can I Improve My Catapult? Answered

So I built a mangonel (torsion catapult) for science olympiad, and it must launch a foam ball up to 15 meters. But, its struggling to reach 10 meters. I was wondering how I can make it launch further, whether changing the tension of the torsion bundle, different rope, or even structural changes. I will gladly accept any and all suggestions.

How Would I Make a Firing Mechanism for a Catapult? Answered

So I am trying to do this instructable here >>https://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Build-A-Catapult/ and the author doesn't seem to be answering questions anymore. I am wondering if  anyone else knows what to do with the firing mechanism if using fibreglass pipe. Because if a hook is screwed in it, it seems like it would probably break out of it under the strain. Anyone have any ideas what i could do for the firing mechanism? Thanks!

What Brought You?

So K'nexers, What made you come to instructables? My story is wierd.Okay, so I was in the living room watching tv. I saw a commercial for a catapult, and I made one out of legos. After making my catapult, I googled Catapult toys. It asked me if I meant K'nex Catapult Toy so I chose yes. The first one there was this. I instantly wanted to make a gun. A google search later and I saw the KILLERK gun. Built it, and then branched out to where I am now. And that's my story. What's yours? Signed, R&C;

Five days left to get a Magnetapult!

This post is for the Magnetapult, described in this instructable. If you don't have a laser cutter, or the patience to tweak the pattern for yours, you have a few days left to back the Kickstarter project and get a Magnetapult of your own!  The kickstarter project page is at: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jfehr/magnetapult-the-magnetic-catapult-0 There's three models, a regular one (extremely tweaked from the design posted in the instructable, with harder to find parts), an aluminum version, and a mini version.  Current pictures/rendering below. (Not the final design, but close.) Thanks for your time!

Which would be better for a makeshift crossbow, thick rubber or laminated bamboo?

I was going to make this instructable on another sort of paper crossbow, because I promised that I would make a new version of it. But then I just decided to make a real crossbow. And so it got me thinking; should it be laminated bamboo or just a piece of rubber.      I know it will be very strong if I used laminated bamboo, but then again my hands are weak so I'm gonna' have to improvise a windlass for that. I'll have to do the same if I use really thick rubber. If you have any other suggestions for my ballista looking future crossbow, then bring it. I don't want to lose my hands while making and operating this thing.

My REAL catapult

I recently built a Huge catapult at my friends house out of old decking. It is 13 feet long with a 14 foot arm. My friend needs to get the drill fixed so we can finish and until then we are waiting anxiously. It should shoot a large, 10 pound rock about 100 feet. The next time I go over I'm gonna bring my camera and take a video of it, and guess what? It's powered 100% by torsion just like the Romans. It uses 2 inch diameter rope. I also made a Roman Scorpion which uses 1 inch diameter rope and shoots large arrows 100 feet.

How do you make a proper Trebuchet sling?

My group is doing a Trebuchet for Engineering class and we've built it and it's ready to go. But it's missing the sling. I've tried making a sling but I feel I've been doing it completely wrong. Because the projectile (wooden ball) would either hit flat on the ground or never release. I'm also confused as to how the sling works, I realize one end is tied to the arm and another is free floating and unhooks and releases the projectile, but how exactly should you do this? Is there any good tutorials that don't leave out details, or at least explain it a little better? Any help is greatly appreciated and will prevent us from failing.

Long Range Hybrid Crossbow

HERE IT IS. The Brickster LDS is a hybrid crossbow. It doesn't have a bow. It has a range of 250 to 300 feet with 16 to 32 rubber bands. It is extremely strong and could hold about 80lbs of force. The arrows are smaller than an average crossbow arrow so they fly slightly faster. It has no track so it is a slingshot type crossbow. Will be posted in a month or 2. Amazingly powerful. Has over 800 pieces and a Ballista attachment that rolls and keeps it at a 30 degree agle with the ground. Low piece and a great gun, If only I could show you. . . . . . . . . . . WAIT, I CAN!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Electroinnovation 9 years ago  |  last reply 9 years ago

The Brickster 2 SLDS

GUESS WHAT? I just finished my newest project, the Brickster 2, Super Long Distance Sniper. I estimate it shoots about 290' using my new arrow design. Unlike the Brickster, this has an open top and bottom instead of sides, and the rubber bands are fed through each arm. It makes for easier loading and smoother firing. Also, this mega-beast is almost TWICE as long as the Brickster. It is VERY piece efficient because each arm uses yellow and green rods instead of white and blue. I should post pictures and a video or two in a week and the Instructable should be up in a month. Hit subscribe so you know just when it's posted.

I need some help with paper mache angry birds for a party game

For my daughter's b-day I want to make an Angry Bird game out of small pinatas. I've never actually played the game myself (prob the only person in the world who hasn't) because I don't hove time. But I thought it would be fun if I could make small birds and pigs out of paper maché, about 7 inches in diameter. Then I want to make a catapult, and hang the birds from strings from the ceiling, and have the kids shoot the pigs at them. How's that sound? First of all, is that how the game is played--pigs hit birds? Or is it vice versa? And I need the pig pinatas to be durable enough to shoot without collapsping in the catapult, and hard enough to break the birds. I want to put candy in all of them, and have quite a few on hand so all the kids can get a shot. I made a cool catepillar pinata a couple years ago for her but the kids couldn't break it because I made it too thick -__- So, I need some help with my "recipe"... Thanks

Has anyone added springs to a rubber band car? Answered

If so, how did you add them? Did you add it to the stationary point? Will this addition help with the distance of the car? This is the goal: "1. your car must be powered by no more than 2 rubber bands. may be any size. 2. body of car may be made out of most common household materials. wheels may be previously manufactured, but body can not be. 3. may not launch or catapult car. must be self propelled."

Advertising Instructables

Next week is my school's annual "Activities Week". On Tuesday, I'll be taking thirty kids paint-balling, but for the rest of the week I'll be making my Paper Catapult with my groups, and using Heed as a target (they're going to try and knock his head off).Because the kids keep asking me where I get my stuff from, I will be displaying adverts for this site all week (I usually have one stuck in the window of my lab door, but this one will be copied up to A3 and stuck on the wall over the instructions display).I thought you'd like it, maybe to put up a version at work, in your neighbourhood or at school. It's only a Word document, but it does the trick.

Winter weapons of snowy destruction

It's winter and snow is everywhere (well where I live there is) People are sledding and making snow angels. And of course my favorite part- Snowball fights. Snow in ball form whizzing thru the air towards people. Me loving to build stuff and loving to improve it to, I wanted to make something that could throw snowballs better than any person. I have an idea for a couple launchers and cannons but I want to see other people's ideas. So post anything, a launcher, a cannon, a catapult, a chucker. Anything that can accompany someone in a snowball fight. So people POST.
