Like most of us here at instructables.com I loves steampunk stuff for no real apparent reason. It might be considered over the top to my cellphone into one but trust me my cellphone needs help. Its ok and some would call it cute but muchas boring.(hand -me- down) I never use it but this year for school I shall have to and so i want something that will make me smile ( especially during the school year. Our school is very unsmiley). So something very cool. I'm thinking a lot of brashish and wood but something I could easily do. My cell phone is two parts and flips open from the middle if you would like pics I would be more than happy to post some, Thanks Steamie

I guess he put in a full sized ear jack and it takes mini so it is obliterated. I got rid of the physical jack and all its parts but it still outputs audio to the dead jack apart from the "turn the fone on" sounds. So, am I missing something? Is there some secret thing that is stuck in the on position? Anyway, probably lots of kids have broken earjacks so maybe someone has the same problem and knows a fix? It is pay go out of waranty (just 14 days) and it still has 50 bux on it.

My cell phone's battery doesn't last very long--less than 24 hours while I'm using it, and less than 48 on standby. I'm getting a new battery for it, but based on what I've read about this phone on the Internet, it's just a battery hog, and the new battery likely won't help much. So my thought was "what if I put TWO batteries in there?" Crazy, right? I mean, I can't actually fit two batteries in my cell phone, but what if I could find a way to run wires from the outside of my phone to the battery on the inside, augmenting that battery? The problem I have is that I'm not sure if this will result in extended battery life, or an explosion. I know that Li-Ion batteries are not like your normal AAs. And I know that to keep the voltage right, I'd have to wire them in parallel. But if I wire them in parallel, without some sort of circuit in front of both batteries, will that be safe? I think that if there was a circuit in front of the two batteries hooked up in parallel things would be fine. But if I just hook to separate batteries in parallel, each meant for my cell phone, then each battery will have the circuit protecting it, but not the two in parallel, and that might be dangerous. So anyway, if anyone out there has any idea on how safe this is or isn't, I'd appreciate their input! Rick

Hi i got my cellphone blocker i am in canada. i want to block rogers/fido network but when i got this it wasn't blocking in the longer range . by longer range i mean not even few feets away. When i take the blocker right close to my phone it works but if i even move two or three feet away from it . it won't work and the bars come right back on the phone. So i read here the instruction for tweeking the setting . i open it up but i have no idea what will be the settings for rogers/fido because the settings posted on this site is for att and other usa networks. please help i need ur help . i bought this with high expecation looking forward for your help . the site looks great with so much to read and learn thanks.

I have an unlimited boost mobile phone, I like the flat rate fee and service but would enjoy a better phone like a blackberry. I have heard several different answers about whether i can exchange the sim card and use the blackberry with my boost mobile account. If anyone could answer with explanation of complications or limitations.

Can i make something out of them oh and one of the cellphones has a camera
I have an idea to do a total conversion on a cellphone, including things like a steam-driven charger, etc. The issue I am running into here is if I could, I'd want to make it rotary. I saw Randofo's PIC method for making it a USB input here but I have no clue in terms of how a cellphone works, or any of the chips involved. Sadly, my knowledge is mechanical, not circuitry. Any sort of ideas are welcome... please help me progress on what I hope to be my magnum opus of steampunkerie.

I always put my cellphone in my right pocket, only the right pocket, keys and wallet go on the left. I noticed awhile back that my leg sometimes twitches. So now I was wondering if I can line my pocket with something that will shield the radio waves from my leg. What would work?

This is my dilemma and I am sure I am far from alone. I work for an employer that does not allow me to bring my cellphone into the building because of data sensitivity issues. because our cellphones all have nice cameras in them now, it's a no-no. I am a parent who would still like to be notified of an emergency. What I want is a small device, I'm picturing a little disc or square that can fit in my pocket and vibrate if I receive a call from 3 to 5 specific numbers. For example if the school calls, or if he calls from his cellphone. I can know I need to run out on my break or find a way to call from inside the building and call him or the school back. Kind of like a call notifier for emergencies. Maybe similar to Life Alert. I am not into electronics and have no idea how I might equip a device and make it communicate with my cellphone through possibly an app or something. I just want this. If this happens to be some new idea and you'd like to develop it as a company, I'd appreciate some notification, credit and cut of the profits or purchase of the intellectual property. You'd really be doing a working mother a favor. Otherwise create this thing and sell me one. I will definately buy one and sell some more for ya.

Recently I bought a new cellphone because my old one was wrecked, and old and so on and so on. so I took it apart, and finished with the parts I wanted, a tiny color screen and an tiny lens, with leads to an tiny red thingy where underneath a sort of connection circuit. can anyone give me a schematic where I can see how many power, how to connect, and how to turn on and off the camera. because I want to make a night vision set, which you can make with for example a webcam or that one on your mobile. but I want someone, without any cords, one you can build in an a modified pair of glasses. thanx in advance!

I really like how Flip Video Cameras have built in usb connectors, and i really want to try to integrate something similar into my phone which has a micro usb port so i can charge it and drop off files whenever i'm around a computer. I was thinking the best way would be to strip the usb cable and bend it right at the connector, then splice the cable so it isn't too bulky. has anyone done something like this before?

I have an old TMobile Sidekick (PV210) that I would like to repurpose because it seems to me like a shame to throw out. I've googled to see if its rootable so I can at least flash the firmware to something useful but nah that was a dead end. I'm going to dismantle it as soon as my basement workbench is clean again to see if i'm inspired. I'm relatively new to this site but what I've seen is amazing some of you guys must have some good ideas. Thanks, Simpleton

Check it out: I'm a major Android fan. Sure, Mac makes some incredible machines, but I just hate how shut off they are. That's why I love Android. You're able to change the battery if you, you can expand your memory, you can even make your own apps without hoping to gain someone's permission. However, the one thing that iPhones have over Android phones is the fact that they have the ability to be placed on a dock. My question is, why can't Android phones do this? Now, instead of making docks for these phones, maybe it's possible to use the ones for iPhones that are already there. What if there was a little plastic piece that snaps on to the iPhone dock and has a mini or micro USB male end on the other side? Of course, there are all kinds of sizes and shapes to Android phones, but I'm sure once this piece is perfected, one could make different shaped ones for different phones to fit neatly. Most of you are much smarter than me (or maybe have more ambition), so I'm sure you can figure out how to do this sooner than I can. If you have and idea on how to make this work, good luck and let me know how it turns out. P.S. If you make this and market it, be sure to credit me for the idea, yeah? ;)

I have several cellphones stored, I don't want to throw them away because i think they pollute. So... any ideas?
I'm trying to understand how cellphones can send out the messages to another source (like a computer). I know that somehow an electrical force is being applied, but from where and how?
