I was wondering if old cellphone can be used as a wifi signal booster ? If yes what are the instructables. I am curious to know about it if it has not been tried yet i would like to get the guidance.

My cell phone's battery doesn't last very long--less than 24 hours while I'm using it, and less than 48 on standby. I'm getting a new battery for it, but based on what I've read about this phone on the Internet, it's just a battery hog, and the new battery likely won't help much. So my thought was "what if I put TWO batteries in there?" Crazy, right? I mean, I can't actually fit two batteries in my cell phone, but what if I could find a way to run wires from the outside of my phone to the battery on the inside, augmenting that battery? The problem I have is that I'm not sure if this will result in extended battery life, or an explosion. I know that Li-Ion batteries are not like your normal AAs. And I know that to keep the voltage right, I'd have to wire them in parallel. But if I wire them in parallel, without some sort of circuit in front of both batteries, will that be safe? I think that if there was a circuit in front of the two batteries hooked up in parallel things would be fine. But if I just hook to separate batteries in parallel, each meant for my cell phone, then each battery will have the circuit protecting it, but not the two in parallel, and that might be dangerous. So anyway, if anyone out there has any idea on how safe this is or isn't, I'd appreciate their input! Rick

I have an idea to do a total conversion on a cellphone, including things like a steam-driven charger, etc. The issue I am running into here is if I could, I'd want to make it rotary. I saw Randofo's PIC method for making it a USB input here but I have no clue in terms of how a cellphone works, or any of the chips involved. Sadly, my knowledge is mechanical, not circuitry. Any sort of ideas are welcome... please help me progress on what I hope to be my magnum opus of steampunkerie.

This is my dilemma and I am sure I am far from alone. I work for an employer that does not allow me to bring my cellphone into the building because of data sensitivity issues. because our cellphones all have nice cameras in them now, it's a no-no. I am a parent who would still like to be notified of an emergency. What I want is a small device, I'm picturing a little disc or square that can fit in my pocket and vibrate if I receive a call from 3 to 5 specific numbers. For example if the school calls, or if he calls from his cellphone. I can know I need to run out on my break or find a way to call from inside the building and call him or the school back. Kind of like a call notifier for emergencies. Maybe similar to Life Alert. I am not into electronics and have no idea how I might equip a device and make it communicate with my cellphone through possibly an app or something. I just want this. If this happens to be some new idea and you'd like to develop it as a company, I'd appreciate some notification, credit and cut of the profits or purchase of the intellectual property. You'd really be doing a working mother a favor. Otherwise create this thing and sell me one. I will definately buy one and sell some more for ya.

Check it out: I'm a major Android fan. Sure, Mac makes some incredible machines, but I just hate how shut off they are. That's why I love Android. You're able to change the battery if you, you can expand your memory, you can even make your own apps without hoping to gain someone's permission. However, the one thing that iPhones have over Android phones is the fact that they have the ability to be placed on a dock. My question is, why can't Android phones do this? Now, instead of making docks for these phones, maybe it's possible to use the ones for iPhones that are already there. What if there was a little plastic piece that snaps on to the iPhone dock and has a mini or micro USB male end on the other side? Of course, there are all kinds of sizes and shapes to Android phones, but I'm sure once this piece is perfected, one could make different shaped ones for different phones to fit neatly. Most of you are much smarter than me (or maybe have more ambition), so I'm sure you can figure out how to do this sooner than I can. If you have and idea on how to make this work, good luck and let me know how it turns out. P.S. If you make this and market it, be sure to credit me for the idea, yeah? ;)

How often are you spending more time looking for the TV, DVD, Stereo remote than the time it would actually take to just get up and push the button on the unit? Cordless phones have 'pager' function where you can press a button on the base unit causing the handset to beep. A lost cellphone may be found by ringing it. But very few manufacturers of entertainment system (that i have come across) include a "finding' feature with the units' remote control. WHY NOT? Surely Cellphone manufacturers could "easily?" include a learning remote with the rest of the 'hugely useful' features on them the we use EVERYDAY...like FM radio, biorhythms, international roaming, bottle opener. You see my theory is-- a. that I tend to know exactly where my cellphone is 99% of the time. It is personal. b. The TV, Stereo etc. remote on the other hand are communal. I mean other poeple, like my kids, use them often and thus the remote gets left ANYWHERE. So the two ideas i have put forward is 1. Learning infrared remote in a cellphone and 2. a pager for a remote (new thread pending)

Hey guys! I have a Motorola Droid and I love all the games people are developing, but the controls are TERRIBLE! so I was thinking "I wonder if I could mod a controller with joysticks (Playstation or something) to work with my Droid?!?" Im aware that it would also require some kind of software but I just cant shake the idea that it would be AWSOME. Anyone seen anything like this or have any pointers for where I could get started?

Hey all, I'm looking for a combination of 2 circuits that I know exists already. I want to charge a Li-ion battery via a USB port in a computer or a wall adapter. Then (to save space and be more streamlined) I want to be able to use the same USB connection In the device I'm making to charge my phone from the Li-ion battery. If anyone could point me in the direction on this circuit that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have been reading a lot of DIY articles on how to build portable bluetooth speakers, and I'd like to take it a step further. I have at my disposal an old Samsung Droid Charge, a pair of Logitech computer speakers (powered), and some pioneer bookshelf speakers. What I would like to do is somehow use the electronics in the phone to provide all the necessary connections. Since the phone has bluetooth, a rechargeable battery, and an audio jack/speakers, I would think this is just a small matter of soldering and fitting everything into a cabinet. The problem is that I'm not an electrical engineer, so I'm probably overlooking something. If you have any ideas, or know if something like this has been done before, please let me know! EDIT: I've simplified my project, and I no longer need help with this, but if you do know something that would help, I'd still want to give it a shot.

I got about halfway through making one of these before I started questioning its seriousness. Is it a joke? Or, hopefully, is it valid? UPDATE:Don't you just love who gullible some people are? ; ) Anyway, now that I've shared this with everyone, should I delete this topic. I'm not sure how it could benefit anyone else by leaving it up, and I try to clean up my messes. If anyone knows the latter to be true, could you give the scientific explanation for why a cellphone can levitate a playing card?Looking up how to add a video now. :P Here's the URL in the meantime:http://www.metacafe.com/watch/448034/secret_science_anti_gravity_revealed_homemade Errr...Perhaps I'll make an Instructable on how to not read the entire set of directions in an Instructable on how to make videos. I wanna use my old Quad-band cellphone(lcd broken) with 2.0MP camera to transmit video wirelessly. I have a idea how to do it but don't know if its right. Here's what i think will do the trick: I wanna transmit the video via the phone's internal antenna. For that i will have to somehow make the camera run with battery power then i will have to attach the data cords of the camera with the phone's internal antenna. I made it sound very easy but it ain't and i know it coz the camera is soldered to the phone's board and its connected via tape wires so no way i can cut them. I chose the phone's internal antenna coz its a quad band phone so it supports all 4 bands 800, 900, 1800 and 1900MHz. so the range would be good. But i still don't know how to make it work. I haven't thought about the receiver though, The receiver also has to be of matching frequency, that i know. Anybody can help me in putting this wild idea of mine into practicality ? Thank you.

Hi I work in a cubicle environment with no white noise so a mouse fart can be heard across 8 cubicles in either direction. I've already been pulled in by my manager because of complaints about my voice when I'm on the phone. Can anyone come up with some device that can be placed over mouth and phone to muffle the voice? I thought of a sponge foam half sphere but I haven't tried or tested it. I'd need to find one as well! Thanks... and my co-workers will thank you as well!

I have a spare bl-5c battery (a nokia phone battery) at home. i was thinking if i can be able to use this to make a rechargeable led light. Cellphone batteries are now much cheaper these days and there are a lot of things that it might be able to power up, though a led light would be a good start and might not be that "electrically" dangerous. I'll also try to research on this and see what i can find out. Cheers ~

Ok, hopefully I'm posting this in the right forum. I got LOTS of broken cell phones at home and even some spare batteries from said phones. So what to do? I'm going to use them in some wearable projects. The problem that I'm having is that I'm not sure how to connect the wires so that I can charge it and how to connect the battery to the circuit. There are lots of instructables here but hell if I can find the right keywords to actually find what I'm looking for. Any ideas? Tips for suitable instructables? Tips for better keywords? Keyphrases? Best regards! Osquar

Hey guys I found this tutorial for building a Solar Ipod charger http://yosemiteoutside.com/m/Blogs/02EA4A6B-8893-4F3E-87A8-C1E4B24C3AAB.htmlI have already looked up all the parts for it, but when reading the data sheet for the regulator http://www.st.com/stonline/books/pdf/docs/2146.pdfI was rather confused, I got that it could take up to 35v, but there was no max amperage ratings. I am thinking of making one that is more efficient using a solar panel that putts out more watts, because the one he used only put out .6Watts (100ma x 6v), but the regulator can put out 2.5 watt. couldn't you hook up a larger solar panel. Thanks

Would it be possible to create goggles that use a old cellphone screen and a cheap webcam and still be battery powered? I currently have two old cell phones in really good condition internally, and all that would be left is the webcam and the LEDs. If this turns out correctly it should be able to view IR light fairly well. Hopefully it will work the same as the shown goggles but not as bulky.

Im very new to electronics, say that i had something like a cellphone or mp3 player charging through solar power, would I just attach as many solar pannels as i please and wire them into the usb to whatever ipod uses cable? I assume that there would be some extra parts that i would have to put in like resistors and such. but what would i need?

I want to build a very small WIRELESS IP Camera using an iPhone 4 camera module. Ultimately, I want to be able to view a new photo every few minutes (more frequently is better of course). Preferably these photos would download to a folder in my computer (Mac). It would also be cool if I could use a small solar cell to recharge a LiPo (or other rechargeable battery, or high capacity capacitor) which would power the device. I am very new to all of these things, but I am very technically inclined and ambitious, I don't currently have any parts on hand to try what you might recommend, so this is all theoretical for me. Thank-you to all who participate in bringing this wish of mine to life. brokey

Well apparently my mother dropped my cellphone, now when you turn it on, the screen lights up, but it's blank, it vibrates when I turn it on because it was on vibrate before (startup sound). But it won't do anything else, I tried changing the ringer, hitting buttons, and it didn't make any sounds. Display cable popped out? Any ideas? -Punk
