I am going on a trip to mexico to build houses for poor families. I was wondering, is there any solution to lighting where our team could make multiple packages that we could give to the families that would supply them with light, etc. ?

I am interested in desoldering a few things to get some parts. However I bought desoldering braid quite a while ago and have no idea where it is. I do not have the money to buy a pump (no matter how cheap it may be). So I was wondering if there was anything else I could use or do. I do own a soldering iron. I am just playing around with a few project ideas with electronics I had laying around and a few things I have taken out of the garbage.

I am a science teacher that needs a "cheep" high speed video camera for a project we do as part of our forces and motion unit. The students build carts out of paper and straws, then race them down an incline. I videotape them and then analyze the video and the students determine the speed of their cars. (see video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqI5H8d4r7M). As you can see from the video, the slow motion video is very blurry. the frame rate is okay (they are only traveling at 2-4 meters per second, which means about 8-12cm per frame, perfect for the save we are using)., but the initial position and final position is just an estimate due to the blurry car. Maybe I am not using the right terms, I do not know a lot about film/photography, but i need the individual shots to be clearer. I currently use a Flip video camera, which is good because it is super easy to download the videos for student anaysis. What kind of camera will suit my purposes, without spending more than $400? Thanks, Covo

Ever wanted a small milling machine to mill aluminum ? Heres a cheep way to do it. It's not real accurate but it gets the job done. and for under $ 160.00. all the parts come from Harbor Freight (Drill press on sale 70.00) (roto zipp bit 2.99) ( 8 inch crosss vice 39.00) some bolts and thats it ! it's slow so take your time and the vice is a little rought but it gets the job done. Run the drill press at the highest speed on aluminim slower on plastic and use small cuts , don't try to hog out the part it will break the bit. have fun !! There you have it.

I'd like to make a cheep motorized actuator using a long bolt, nut & a small hobby motor to spin the bolt. I like to know how to attach the small motor to the bolt, or some way to spin the bolt. All I can think of is drill a small hole in the bolt, then J/B Weld the motor on the back. Is their a better way? Not only that but, what do I use to mount the motor at one end & the other end of the bolt to spin freely.

Hi, I want to get a good tracked platform for my arduino. I was looking at the dfrobotshop rover but decided that it was too pricey and slow for what I wanted. I was also looking at the tamiya and rover 5 platforms but decided that they all were too slow (but had a appealing prise range). Anyway what would be a good cheap track platform for arduino that had some speed? Thanks, David.

I teach music in Elementary school(s) and have a class with several special needs students. I'd like to make a music note generator like a simple keyboard but I want to use buttons they already have. Example. While the rest of the class is playing recorder. These students have a large piece of black poster board with several round dots with note names. While the group plays these students push on the round dots. I would really like to be able to make those dots play the same pitch as the recorders. Just one simple sound with about 6 or 7 different notes. i.e. from D to low D or C. Did I mention that this should be cheep too? (- Thanks, Carmine

I want to build a good, cheap light table but all I'm finding on the web are instructions to build a light box. Light boxes are for taking pictures of objects. I don't want to take pictures. Light tables are for tracing stuff from an already existing image. Anybody can take a picture. I'm an artist/designer and I design and build stuff from random images. Does anyone out there know how to build a LIGHT TABLE? Gyrine 77

I was wondering if theirs a type of simple cheep switch that would do this: electricity is turned on, a switch completes a second circuit but when original electricity is turned off the second circuit stays on. The first circuit gets power from an outlet but the second circuit runs on a battery But in diagram (I used paint it's the best I can do) I have both running on batteries. Dose any one know of an electrical component that would do this? Or is their any way I could build one for cheep? Thank you.

So I'm relatively new to nitro rc and i had a few questions about on board glow plug ignition system . I know the igniter is cheep and bla bla bla easy however... Can one be made ? I have often thought that i might be able to use a third channel off my receiver with a wire directly to the glow plug and at the flip of a switch the glow plug would ignite but i don't know if it would work and don't wanna spend the money on a receiver to find out. Is there someone out there willing to give it a go and let me know? Really my question would be at what voltage does a glow plug ignite? would a 7.2 volt battery do the trick? Are there any CHEEP systems out there?

I'm trying to build one of those old fashioned military style tents at a reasonable price. I already have a bunch of recycled canvas for the walls but I don't know what kind of tent poles to use. I think PVC is too flimsy and unstable, I'm not sure about electrical conduit because it isn't rated to withstand a lot of pressure but it is cheep, aluminum tubing is expensive but lightweight. Any Ideas?

Hey every one. With Halloween coming I’m preparing to make my Two Face costume. Because I don’t want to paint half of my face I’m using half of an (modified) store bought latex mask. My last step should be the most difficult, painting it. The half of a mask will be doing a lot of moving so I need a flexible paint. I’m only an amateur, but have read some about painting latex. Most methods I’ve seen require mixing different substances. I’d like to get away from that if any was possible, I’d like to make this as easy as I can. The other thing is that it has to be very cheap. I’ve already spent too much money on this costume, and would like to not spend too much more. If anyone knows a type of paint that is flexible and cheap please tell me, because I really need one. Thanks every one. Hope to hear from you soon.

I have a group (20) of small robots that need to all end on a certain line in a grid. My question is how can I get each car to count the number of lines it crosses and when it reaches the right number it stops. The problem is I have a budget of $75 dollars to make the guidance for every car. If there was maybe some sort of central controller that would work for each or maybe it is just cheep enough to make a simple set-up for each one. Any comments or questions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Zootsuitman

Is there a simple way to test the air flow/pressure inside my HVAC fan housing? Perhaps some kinda guage I can attach to the blower unit of my fan box for the HVAC? Why? I'd like to test with new filter and then old, to determine when it needs changing. so, I'm looking for a simple, cheep differential pressure gauge or some means to tell if the filter is dirty and thus constricting the flow through the fan unit.

So I have been looking for a cheap way to quickly wash small loads of laundry and came across the "Wonder Wash" (http://www.laundry-alternative.com/washing.htm). The main issue I have with this thing is the $50 price tag. I know that it is a small amount to pay to reduce your water and electricity needs but times are tight. My baby seems to go through 5-6 burp rags a day and I don't like using the washing machine for such a small load every other day. Anyone have any insight on how I can build one of these on the cheep?
