"Inspiration is for amateurs. I just get to work." - Chuck CloseChuck Close paints incredible portraits of himself and others with his unique style even though he holds the brush between his teeth due to being a quadriplegic. He is awesome and his paintings are beautiful in person. In a recent interview with Terry Gross, Chuck gives some great advice for anyone who can't think of what to do. Don't wait for inspiration, just get into the habit of making and ride it. After all, Chuck does well with this and here's how he describes himself:I'm a nervous wreck. I'm a slob. I have no patience. And I'm rather lazy. All those things would seem to guarantee that I would not make work like I make. But I didn't want to just go with my nature.More great stuff here.via Drawn!

There are many jokes about good ol' Chuck: Every night the Boogey Man checks under his bed for Chuck Norris; Jesus can walk on water, Chuck Norris can swim through land. Those are a few examples but there are hundreds more. Share your best!

Hey, I would like to invite you all to check out my blog - ideasbychuck.com. I have been doing it for about two years now, and basically what it is is me giving away my ideas. It has been featured on Gawker.com, in Inventors Digest, and on CNN Headline News. Thanks, Chuck

I am having a hard time finding a small dc or ac motor to use a spindle for a small CNC machine. It has a dremel on it now, but would like a single motor. Such as this which has an adjustable chuck, but are sold out. Only other one I found was This, but would like some more options. Is there another website to look at? wouldn't mind a used or surplus one as well. Thanks

I finally got a chance to watch the sneak preview of Discovery's new Smash Lab* last night, and imagine my surprise to see someone I know hosting! Chuck Messer, one of the four Smash Lab hosts, is a partner at Tackle Design the people behind the The Open Prosthetics Project, which also has an Open Prosthetics group on Instructables. Tackle Design and my own Squid Labs shared many similarities, so Chuck and I would share stories about how we each ran the companies; he even managed to visit Squid Labs when we were still located in Emeryville (pre-control tower). It's great to see good people getting wider recognition, and I wish Chuck and Smash Lab success!disclosure - Discovery is an advertiser on Instructables, and has been advertising for Smash Lab. This is not part of their advertising.

I know this is a little strange, however I thought it was cool. I always type in instructables into google when I want to come here. So you know how google gives suggestions like if type in chuck norr the it will come up as chuck norris underneath. Well, recently instructables has been suggested when i only type in inst instead of instr. Sooooo good job! Now we have to make it to just I

I'm looking for a way to build a simple frequency generator that generates high and low frequencies. I was thinking of using a POT to control the frequency range. I looked for it all around but the search didn't help much.

I need to run some cables up the back of a built in bookshelf. How can I make a neat hole if my drill will not fit, I am trying to avoid purchasing a 90 deg Chuck? I thought of using my small electric screwdriver but it does not have the power to drive the bit.

Ok. So i ordered this really cool briefcase on Ebay and I'm just dying to put a smoke machine in it. Got any idea's? It would have to battery powered and obviously small enough to fit in a briefcase. I was thinking about chucking a few LED's in there as well but that shouldn't be any problem.

Today i was drilling and it started to smoke. It does that only when working. It smells like plastic and i can see fire inside, behind the motor, What's burning? Than i tried to open the cover but it seems something is still holding at the end of the machine. Should i unscrew also the chuck? THX

Hey guys, I really would like to make an oil press (olive oil etc). Now this seems to me to be something that is very makeable (could be wrong), something that doesn't need to be expensive as they currently are to buy? has anyone made one that they can chuck me a link or want to try make one? think it would be a pretty cool thing to add to the instructables community. thanks.

So I was thinking, would it be possible to charge a cordless drill by turning the whole chuck-thingy (the part that the motor spins)? I thought that would make sense, since you are just doing what the drill does but in reverse, but I think there may be some voltage problems you'd run into... Any ideas?

Would I be able to power a wood lathe just using a weed wacker motort? Would I be able to hook a chuck right to it or would I have to use a system of pulleys. I just want to be able to turn small wooden goblets and pens.

As far as I know, DeWalt has not incorporated lights into their cordless drills as some other manufacturers have. Could someone make an LED light which would come on when the magnetic field produced by the drill motor is sensed? Perhaps a sensor taped to the drill body, and a small LED light pointing forward, or a ring of light around the drill chuck?

Well, apparently something is wrong with my sub amp, not the sub itself, at least it doesn't sound blown to me. But it definatly does sound different than last time I used it and there is a slight growling sound you can barely hear if you turn it up to a certain point, almost like the voice coil rubbing but a softer sound as I do know what that sounds like. Time to chuck the amp eh?

Hi All, Easy question (for someone), on this handheld bluetooth remote control, what is the hardware name for the accelerator/brake trigger assembly? It moves for and aft to control a bldc motor and motor brake circuit. I've been looking around and can only locate the 2 axis joystick. I would like to incorporate this into a different housing if I can find it. Thanks.

Has anyone any suggestions for a tool which would be "like" a camera iris, with a hole several mm long, but which can be varied in diameter from 1 (0.040 ") to 0.2mm (0.008"). I need to set the diameter fairly carefully, to just gently pinch a bundle of 70micron (0.0029"") optical fibres passed down the centre. The hole needs to be very circular and rigid, even as its closing...... Something kind of like the mechanism of a "pin-chuck" suggests itself, but wouldn't be very round in the limit. Any ideas ? I know this question comes up a lot in life but someone has been nice enough to help people answer it, only problem is last time I woke up cradled in the arms of a Raptor it survived about 35 seconds before I butchered and fried it... There's a club of such people, Chuck Norris is still working on the T-shirt.Anyway the quiz thinks 1 minute, 41 seconds... Link via Neatorama

I've searched almost all words associated with "Aerosol flamethrower" on instructables, yet I see nothing of the sort. Where I come from in England, they're very common, has anyone else ever made one and would the subject be to easy to make a whole instructable out of it. (even if other ways of using them were included?)-=EDIT=-I've established it IS a bad idea, but also just to clarify:~Spray~ can flamethrowers will NOT randomly blow up unless (to my knowledge)You hold it the flame so it burn the nozzle. You pierce the valve. You douse it in and light or chuck it in a fire.

The Eureka Factory does a lot of hands on educational programming with youth and adults, often library staff training for makerspace development and creative programming. We test drove the Circuit Scribe kits provided for the February Build Night, at the Land O'Lakes Branch Library in Pasco County, FL, and our Maker in Residence, Chuck Stephens shares one of our projects and a kit review here: https://www.instructables.com/id/Making-a-Prototyping-Board-for-the-Circuitscribe-K/ We'd love to hear some of your educational projects with the kits.
