Hello, I'm looking for tips about how one would start assembling a smartphone capable of running OS like windows 8 or linux. Basically what i want is 4 to 5 inch computer with touchscreen, a hdmi output and phone capabilities. I'm pretty unsure about everything but i'm really committed. Thinking about using the atom cpu from intel. what do you think? How should I go about the rest of the project. let me know your thoughts?

Building a good computer, able to play games?

So, I want to build a computer, and this would be my first computer. I don't know how to tell how parts are compatible with other parts, and which parts are good. I just want a computer that can surf the web, and support gaming with little to no lag, or freezing. To keep cost down, I don't exactly need to be able to play newer games that can over heat a six month old gaming computer in seconds. I want to keep this project under $400, or at $450 at most. Some games I would like to run is Halo 1 and 2, counter strike, and perhaps WoW. Any, and all help will be appreciated, Thank you.

Are Seeed Studio Shields Compatible with the BASIC Stamp 2?

This is more of a programming question, but can Seeed Studio "shields" or modules be programmed with the BS2? Most Seeed components say they are compatible with Arduino, but I cannot determine whether or not the BS2 can control it as well. Also, if the BS2 is in the Stampduino, would I be able to program the Seeed module using PBasic? Thanks, these are a lot of questions and I would greatly appreciate any answers/comments.

Choosing an Arduino compatible board

Hey everyone. I'm very new to microcontrollers. I've never dealt with them but I do know how to program. I'm interested in creating a wall-avoiding RC truck on a tight budget. I'm mostly going to be following this instructable https://www.instructables.com/id/RC-Car-to-Robot/ as well as this one https://www.instructables.com/id/Simple-RC-car-for-beginners-Android-control-over-/?ALLSTEPS I'm thinking about getting this arduino-compatible board.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tosduino-MEGA2560-R3-Board-Arduino-compatible-/330947766756?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash;=item4d0e0629e4 This is a motor module I'm looking at. http://www.ebay.com/itm/L298N-DC-Stepper-Motor-Driver-Controller-Module-Robot-Dual-H-Bridge-For-Arduino-/370966436323?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash;=item565f5299e3 I'm wondering if anyone has experience with arduino-compatible boards or maybe even tosduino specifically. Are they fairly reliable? Is this motor module something that could work? Why is it only $4 while the motor shield for arduino is $20 - $30. I really have no idea as I would just be following tutorials to get my feet wet in the arduino world. Thanks, BlueShorts

BUG: Images and commenting are not Firefox 3 compatible

Firefox 3 will be officially released on June 17. It's time to fix your javascript to be compatible. I sent a message about this via the feedback form several weeks ago. It contained more details. I can assist you with the debugging if you need it.

Intel Edison Base Shield compatibility

Hi everyone, I was selected for the IoT invitational of Intel + Instructables and I as I was going to start testing the sensors I received, I noticed that there was no base shield for the sensor connections included in the package. I suppose the rest of the chosen participants didn't receive the base shield as well. Since the local stores near me do not have that shield (http://www.seeedstudio.com/wiki/Grove_-_Base_shield_v2) I wonder if other Arduino compatible sensor shields can be used on the Intel Edison expansion board, since it operates at 1.8V and I don't want to fry it. Thanks in advance!

Compatibility with Firefox

Have you noticed that the menu system does not appear to work with Firefox vs. 8?  When I search using this method on Firefox, I never get a link to an actual instructable.  Also, the adds seem to hover in the way of links.  However, In IE vs. 8, the links work, but some of the text and link fields overlap.  It just seems like there are some HTML programming issues that need to be addressed to make the site more navigable.

Experianced Overclockers??

Is anyone experianced with pentium m (mobility) processors? I've got a thinkpad r51 from the school, and runs at 1.5ghz, I know I can get around 1.8ghz out of one of these. The ones at school are 1.6, for whatever reason I got a 1.5ghz I'm not sure. I haven't found any tools that are compatible with it.

Finally, Javascript & DOM more powerfull than what I thought ...

.Hi ...I needed to quickly code a tiny tool-application, but I did not want to spend days and nights learning the API of a new GUI (under linux), neither I wanted to fight with usual C/C++ bugs, memory leaks and crashes, neither I wanted to learn a new scripting language like Python or Perl ...I wanted to do simple and fast, and if possible using my current knowledges : my webbrowser would do the GUI, and PHP would be my programming language. At first sight, I did not consider Javascript as a serious (or main) option, because I've kept very bad memories from Internet Explorer that I mistakenly considered as "the reference" ... But Mozila based browsers are more compatible with W3C than IE !So, finally, to my great surprise, I've made my app-tool 100% client side .......................... I don't even need PHP.However, when I run it on IE, it does not work as expected .....And my question is : for the sake of compatibility, what's the best strategy ?1) "downgrading" the scripts to make them compatible with every targeted web-browsers ?2) writing several version of the scripts, one for each web-browser ?Dilemma ... Dilemma ...

An structable that imitates and improves Wacom's Inkling

Hello all! Just surfing the web for some drawingtablets, that is where I found (duh! d'oh)Wacom Inkling http://www.wacom.eu/index2.asp?lang=en&pid;=9226&gm;=3 It looks cool, but: * I wonder if Wacom is "more compatible" with products they sell, in other words, buy Inkling buy other Wacom related products to make it compatible with each other. *Pen, pressure sensitive, but can you swap the inkleader with any you like? Especially(correct?) (I'm Dutch ;) ) the pen. When the ink has dried up, you don't want to buy another Wacom pen which takes ages to ship. It doesn't seem that hard to recreate something similar without my assumptive drawbacks. But is there a whizzkid that would like to make and instructable like this? Please? :) Regards Thomas

Questionable advertisements?

Given the apparent demographics of Instructables users, do you think perhaps inline advertisements that read "Don't click unless you're 18" (with no other indication of content type, and in flash so you can't even see the destination URL) MIGHT be a bit ... inappropriate? This particular ad linked to some sort of "love compatibility horoscope" service (bites tongue), so it could have been worse; I'm mostly complaining about the STYLE of ad.

Micro drone construction help

For a school project a partner and I are attempting to build a self controlling quadcopter. It should be able to use a specific input from a photo transistor and the be able to navigate on its own. The only problems that I can see running into at the moment are finding an atmega compatible rotor controller, and that not including the propellers it is going to be under two inches (5.08 cm). I would appreciate any assistance possible in finding a motor controller of this size, and will keep this post up to date with our project.

What frequency to use for a gaming steer?

I have an old gaming steer which is not compatible with win 7+, and I can’t find its drivers either. So, im manipulating it on my own, and will use 4 IC NE555 and a potentiometer in astable mode to press [w/s/a/d] with I-don’t-know-what range of frequency. Is there anyone could suggest me use what range of frequency? I thought 700–4000 Hz would be ok. But I have no idea if it is, or not

USnooBie

The USnooBie is a microcontroller kit that does not require any sort of AVR programmer or USB-to-serial converters to load and run compiled code. It's hardware design allows the user to develop low cost USB devices with Atmel's AVR ATmega microcontrollers. It can also be used to develop projects which are not USB devices. It is even compatible with Arduino. No AVR programmer is needed and no USB-to-serial converter is needed to bootload. The bootloader uses native USB and works with AVRDUDE. This makes USnooBie the fastest and cheapest way to get started programming AVR microcontrollers AVRDUDE is cross platform, so it works on Windows, Linux, and Macs. Make V-USB based USB devices using AVR microcontrollers, great for making keyboards, mice, joysticks, gamepads, and other neat gadgets. Of course, you can also make non-USB projects as well because USnooBie uses the same microcontroller as Arduino. Compatible with Arduino. Thin design for use with breadboards or plugs straight into a USB port. Operating voltage is selectable between 5V and 3.3V by a jumper. Protection diode and self-resetting fuse protects your computer from over voltage, reverse current, and short circuits. Buy one from Seeed Studio Instructions and Tutorials on the Official Website

Talk me into Linux

I've been considering the switch to linux. I have currently loaded SimplyMEPIS onto an old laptop to give it a try, I was impressed. I think I like the Ubuntu Distro a little better but I'm teetering on the edge of a complete switch. I need a push over the edge. My issues at the moment is that the old crapy laptop is just kinda, what I call, my beater book. its the laptop I don't worry about to much and use for word proccesing on the run and simple Internet tasks. SimplyMEPIS works excellent for these purposes. My concern is compatibility with my everyday computer needs....... and my not so ordinary endevors. I would consider myself an Expert when it comes to Windows XP......... a step above Expert if there is such a thing...... I know it inside and out and I can manipulate it like a dirty 5 dollar crack whore. I realize there will be a learning curve but will it be compatible with everything I use in windows? ........ I do a lot of media editing and music recording....... is this a possibility in linux? (I realize Mac pro tools is my overall best option) somebody please convince me to switch beyond a shadow of a doubt. or talk me down from the ledge.

Car Alarm

I just had an idea.... Someone needs to make a car alarm app for smart phones. It can use the microphone to listen for breaking glass, the speakerphone for playing pre-recorded messages (step away from the vehicle, the police have been called), the camera can sense movement inside the vehicle and the GPS can sense (and report) movement of the vehicle. All of this information can be sent in real time to the other phone that you carry with you. Installation is as easy as turning it on and tossing it in the seat! Compatible with any car! Battery backup! :)

After plugging the HDDs into the controller, and the controller into my MB(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131363) is there anything else I need to? Can I use the screen of a Mattel Juice Box for anything?

Okay, I found these http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=CM203CA&cat;=VID and i want to use them with a small display. I was planning to use a replacement headset for the Wild Planet Spy Gear RC car camera, but I can't seem to find one. Then I remembered the juice box. Is the juice box screen compatible with the output of this camera? Can I just solder the camera wires and hook up some power? Thanks in advance.

Raspberry Pi 3 Vs UDOO Neo

Which is a better development board, in terms of automation, robotic and server function?  I plan to build a mobile-operated generic wireless controller that gathered data and also programmable in terms of control. I already drop by to other forums and still undecided. I don't consider a development board that so powerful. What I consider is the practicality, suitability, and compatibility. I appreciate your response and I want to know your ideas about this! Thanks and God bless!

I'll turn your technical drawings into files for 3D printing. [$5 per part]

I have access to Autodesk Inventor Pro and I can convert technical drawings into 3D models that can then be printed using a 3D printer.  If you are interested, please email plans for a small test piece (cube or similar simple object) that I will draw and send for free to make sure everything is compatible. The most common filetype is .STL. I accept payments via PayPal after the model has been reviewed by the customer.

Makefiles and Hex files

I am sorry for my stupidity but I am no AVR programmer. Here is my trouble. I am not so sure how to create a makefile in winavr or a hex file from some source code that I have. Whenever I do have code, it already has the makefile and the HEX file. Also, if you edit source code is the HEX file going to change too or will it stay the same? I noticed, that although an ATtiny85 is supposed to be compatible with the ATtiny25 when I try to program code into an ATtiny85 with ATtiny25 it doesn't work. Is there a place I change it to work with the ATtiny85...?
