Servo Mod help

Hi Every one thanks for looking at my post. I have a specific project where I need 8 servos which would need to rotate up to 360 degrees. Please note I do not need continuous rotation mod, which would make me loose servo angle control. Given that i ended up with 3 options 1. Buy a winch or sail servo - these are costly about $40 and not sure if they suite my need. 2. Add an additional gear with 1:2 or 2:1 ratio (not sure about the terminology) of the main servo gear ( attached to pot); Servo rotates about 230 degrees now, so limiting it to 180 degrees from code and with the additional gear and modification I can get a 360 rotation on the added gear and use that as my main servo drive. 3. Replace current potentiometer with a multi-turn one ( available for around $2) with similar resistance value, this along with the potentiometer gear stop peg removal would give more than 360 degree rotation. Servo control would not be effected as resistance value is same and angle must be limited from code to keep the potentiometer from going to the end limits. I am just preparing and calculating the current gear values to decide on the specs needs for the gear mod. I need to measure servo pot values to find a suitable multi-turn pot. I would really appreciate if any one could comment on my approach and any alternatives. I wish some one had tried these before and could share their experience. Thanks Satya

I need to make an electromagnet that continues to turn on and off (on 20 seconds off 45 seconds)

Hello, I am trying to make an electromagnet that turns on and off on an interval. On for 20 seconds off for 45 second. It would continue to turn on and off until the power is turned off. Any and all suggestions as to how to make (or buy) this would be great! I am making this for an art piece.. I am a glass artist so I am not well versed in any of this electrical engineering Thanks! Transformer not behaving...

I hope someone here can help.  I have a AC to AC step down Unrectified transformer, i.e., no circuit board whatsoever.  Primary winding has continuity, secondary wire has continuity.  No continuity between primary and secondary wires in any way.  In short, power goes in, but no voltage comes out.  If someone that knows precisely how transformers work can explain to me how a magnetic field can be generated but no electricity generated on the 2ndary wire I would appreciate it.

Continue the story!

A few days ago, in registration, our form tutor decided to play a game! She gave us an opening phrase, and we had to say a word each going one after another! so I decided to do this here.RULESYou are only allowed to say one word, and may not reply to your own posts. You can reply to an opening, or make a new 1st opening. That's it!So the starting phrase is...One day, my friend Jim and I...Have fun, and I hope we get some interesting results! The Jamalam

This is my TAR v1, or, Trauts Assault Rifle v1. If I do continue making knex stuff, i'll hopefully continue this series of assault rifles. This was made last night mostly for the tvikt tournament. I took TheDunkis shell ejection system, slightly modded it, and basically added a good strong structure and nice trigger.

Troubling Flyback Transformer Pins

Hello,       I'd like to request someone to share their knowledge about their "flyback" knowledge or experiences with me since I'm having trouble finding the primary coil pins with my flyback transformer. I'm constructing my own HV power supply and I decided to go through this tutorial.       I've read much on the web and found the 0v output pin of my flyback. The problem is .. I couldn't find the primary and secondary since I'm using an analog multimeter and the tutorials on the web are all digital..       When I test the pins with my multimeter set to ohm range of x1, I do not get a pair of 1 ohm pins but instead I got the result of "Continuity" when I test on following pins, they seems to be connected but none of the pins show to 1 ohm.. and thus I've adjust the Ohm Adjustment. The results are Continuity 1 : 1,2,6,8 Continuity 2 : 3,4,7,10 No Continuity: 5,9 Pin no 5 is 0v output..  I've attached the pin number diagram at photos... my drawing and actual pins.. Have you got any idea to find out the primary coil? I've also attach my driver from CFL.. Thanks

Suggestion

I noticed on the forum page overview, that the page header is always "instructables". As far as I know, it is the only page that doesn't say what it actually is. I suggest changing the header to something like "Forums - Page 1", simply for continuity and consistency.

continuous to step rotation in legos?

I have a thing that rotates in lego, it has one revolution per 5 minutes. I want it to be connected to something else so that the other thing has one rotation per hour. But it has to rotate in steps, so after every five minutes it has to rotate 1/12 revolution at one time. Can anybody think of a good mechanism? It won't work to make only one pin on the five minute ring so it only ticks the other gear one pin per rotation, that would go too slow because with one revolution per five minutes the transition would take too long. It has to be a short moment. thanks

question regarding a western electric telegraph sounder

Hey all, I hope this is the right place, Ive been lurking instructables for years, but haven't posted in the forums before.  I am working on a project that involves an old western electric telegraph sounder...  I am having some issues and am trying to troubleshoot--when I put a meter on the two leads on each of the two coils, I get no continuity beep from my meter, and its reads 130 on screen...  What does this mean, aside from the obvious 130ohms of resistance?  I apologize as I know this is probably a no-brainer for a lot of you, I'm just bumbling through this stuff, figuring it out as I go. Thanks Michael

K'nex war log entry 2.

Here it is. 10/4/09 (continued) The SR-v2 men were ready to attack, but the KI army was still laying ammo like rain. I shot my sniper ( O.S.S.R ) at the army. I took out one guy. The leader of the group of IN ( KILLERK )shouted a FIRE and all 34 SR-v2 men pulled the trigger. It was amazing. The WHOLE frontline was severely damaged and the medics took them out. Our guys didn't have a big loss of people, just a couple of newcomers. Then a weird thing happened. The youtube guns came out. You can imagine how well they fared. The outside world laughed at our conflict. They don't even know how hard it was. Some guys took one in the eye and got blinded. To be continued...

Supplying power to the PIC12F508 through a transistor.

I'm trying to supply power to a PIC12F508 via a transistor, so it can turn itself off once it has finished working to save power. The Idea is for the push button to supply power to the chip, which sets GPIO5 high on power up, so turns on the transistor, allowing power to continue flowing to the chip after the button is released. The PIC turns on correctly when the button is pressed, but will not remain on, despite power being supplied to the transistor from GPIO5. Another possible issue is that while the chip works properly, it continues to put a high on GPIO4, lighting the LED while VSS is disconnected. I have checked that the code functions correctly, and have tested this without the additional lines from the programmer. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
