converting a bike to a trike?

Anyone have info on converting a bike to a trike? My disabled son has balance issues but wants to ride with the family, however we can't afford a new adult tricycle or one of the expensive conversion kits. He's much too large for training wheels to work. I'm hoping to find a way to convert an old bike with minimal expense and no welding.

Help converting 60hz to 50hz

I currently have bought an aquarium pump from the UK and am using it in the United States. I have bought a step up transformer that goes from 110v input to 220v output. The pump works, but is not functioning properly, it loses flow rate over time and gets pretty warm. One thing that I think may be affecting the performance is that the frequency difference between what the pump is rated at and what is supplied here in the US. What would be a cheap (<$100) easy way to test if it is the frequency issue? How would I convert it? Thanks!

Antiquated keyboard conversion

Alright so, I've recently aquired a  keyboard from a desktop computer made in 1983 and I fell in lovewith it at my first sight of it. However I am a lot younger than this keyboard so I know nothing about it so I was wondering if any of you could give me any background info on this  keybaord and and any thoughts on whether it would be possible for me to convert it so i could plug it into my slightly outdated desktop computer and how i would go about doing so. Pictures  below.

Wired to wireless keybord conversion

Hello, It happens to have a wireless mini keyboard with touchpad, like the one in the photo ( not this model, but something like this). The problem is that I did a terible mistake and I bent it a litle (some milimeters) and after that it keeps sending repeated characters. I do no think I can fix it. I like to convert and keep alive old things so I had the idea to use the RF modules of the keyboard and make an old PS2 or USB keybord wireless. Do you think that there may be a chance I could do it? Hope you will come with some ideas

Turning on an old Psu

Hey there, I got this old PSU, a Delta DPS-350EB-3 from an HP NetServer. I'm trying to make a lab power supply out of it, i just can't get it to power on. There's a blue wire bundled with a ground that when shorted will power the psu for a second then shut it back off.  I tried to put a load on the 5v & 12v with no success. Anyone got an idea? Thanks

Outdoor Pool Table?

There are lots of used pool tables for sale for under $250. Any ideas for how to convert them for outdoor use? I'm thinking of just spraying the whole thing, except the felt, with a few coats of marine varnish. Then just keeping it covered. I live in the NW and of course it's mostly drizzly around here in the winter time. The big thing is keeping expansion and contraction to a minimum and sealing the wood. This doesn't have to be tournament grade, just something to entertain the kids for a few years.

Turning On an old PSU - When all failed

Hey there ! I have this old psu that came from an HP NetServer, Delta DPS-350EB, an old AT form psu and i just can't get it to turn on manually. I have a Dark Blue wire bundled with a ground that's coming from a ''pwr ON'' labeled pin in the psu, when shorted the psu come alive for 2 seconds then shut back off. I tried putting a load (CD drive) on the 5v with no success. Tried shorting all the other cable (those that i know aren't 3v, 5v, 12v + or -) with no succes. Anyone got an idea? Thanks Bill

British pensioner out-does Skunkbait!

WHEN the Smith family want to get away from it all they simply hop on the bus.Father Graham has spent the last 20 years turning his 1968 Daimler Fleetline double-decker into an all-mod-cons base for his wife, Julia, and four sons.He even winches his classic 1968 Fiat 500 car on board where it fits neatly into its own space.Engineer Graham, from Sible Hedingham, Essex, said: "We use it for family holidays and have clocked up thousands of miles in England and France."I have spent a lot of time and money kitting out the bus but it's been worth it - we never pay hotel bills. The children are grown up now but when they were teenagers they loved going on board."We've been to Scotland, north Wales and the Lake District as well as the Loire Valley."The 38ft bus has a kitchen, bathroom and main bedroom downstairs with a lounge, dining area and more beds on the upper deck. Graham, 62, has also kept some of the original seats as well as the ticket machine. The bus has a top speed of 40mph but only does 11 miles to the gallon. However, once they reach their destination they simply winch out the economical Fiat.Julia, 61, said: "We are used to getting odd looks when we are mistaken for New Age travellers."Graham added: "I thought if Cliff Richard could do it in his film Summer Holiday then why can't we!Daily ExpressMail on Sunday

Digital Conversion of Folding Camera?

Ever since i saw the 'ible on converting a land camera to take 35 mm film, I figured there had to be a way to take this even further. I'm even thinking the first baby step shouldn't be too hard- simply mounting a digital camera to the frame. Now, it would be a little more complex than this- taking the lcd screen off of the base, and putting it on the back of the camera, mounting the actual machinery of the camera where the original lens was, and perhaps even mounting buttons (or on some digital cameras, the wheels for 'scene selection' on the base of the land camera. The only problem I can find with this simple conversion is the fact that it seems most digital cameras use micro ribbons now, which would be (as far as I can tell) incredibly hard to splice and extend (which would be necessary to get the lcd screen, and other components mounted on the frame of the land camera). Does anyone have any ideas for this, or are is my goal too lofty? THanks.

Convert an ATX power supply into a regular DC power supply

Any recommendations for/against PDF to Word converters?

I need to convert an existing PDF (LaTeX source) document into MS Word format. A simple Google search (http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q;=convert+pdf+to+word) brings up a number of options, both Web based and installable. Having never done this before, I have no sense of good, bad, dangerous, crappy, whatever.I'd very much appreciate input from any experts who have done this before (Jake?), especially Macophiles.

Bluetooth to landline phone

Hello, I would like to use the bluetooth headset I use with my cell phone for my landline phone at home. There are oodles of instructions out there on how to hack headsets to put them into old phones, I am looking for the opposite. Apparently Jabra used to make something that could have got me started (I believe it was called an A210) but that doesn't seem to be sold any longer. There are some wireless phones out there that incorporate bluetooth, but why add a battery operated wireless phone to a wireless headset - the bluetooth range would give me what I need to stay unencumbered. I have an old cell I could hack apart but I suspect that it would be tricky to get its bluetooth hacked into the analog phone line... Any thoughts? berserk

Converting digital headset to analogic one

Hello! :D Some time ago I have bought a Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 digital, USB headset. Hmm...maybe it was not the best choice, but I want to convert it into an analogic one. In theory it is simple: I only have to remove the incorporated digital-analogic analogic-digital signal converter and connect the 2 wires of the headset to 2 Jack 3.5mm, one for the microphone and one for the speakers. Reason: my laptop's sound card is much better than the headset's built-in one. I am pretty sure that this converter is located in the volume control box: www.turbozone.ro/fotografii/Casti/Microsoft_JUG-00003.jpg But things may not be as easy as they seem. Or are they? As far as I have heard, the cable from the volume control unit and the headset consists in 2 wires. The cable of my old cheap analogic headset consists in 2 wires too. It shouldn't be complicated: the microphone wire get tied with the microphone wire and the speakers wire get tied with the speakers wire. But when I opened the old cheap analogic headset I noticed that each of the 2 wires branches out in 2 respectively 3 separate wires when they reach the headset: a blue one, a red one, a yellow one, a green one and a blue-yellow one. This is quite strange, isn't it? Or...do I have to worry about that?; should I simply tie the 4 wires together - old&cheap; analogic speaker wire with LifeChat's speaker wire and old&cheap; analogic microphone wire with LifeChat's microphone wire? I don't want to do somethig wrong.^^ Thanks in advance. :)

Fixed Gear/Track Bike Conversion

Hey guys. I just stumbled upon this group. Good stuff here. But lately I've been working on an old Schwinn Le Tour I have, and could you some help. I've stripped it down, cleaned it all up, but before I go and put it back together id like to find out a thing or two about converting it to a fixed gear track bike. It's got horizontal drop-outs, and in great condition. I just need some tips on how to do it, and opinions on the pro's and con's of the conversion. Thanks to everyone who can help me out.

Bike conversion ideas for a semi-noob

Having just rescued my nice GT from my parents' place, my old junker bike is now surplus to requirements. (I like to have a "spare" bike, but now I have three bikes it's literally a fifth wheel. And sixth.)I've wanted to build an electric bike or a recumbent for a long time, but despite fiddling with bikes for a while I'm still just a competent novice. A competent novice with very limited tools, in fact. Therefore I'm looking for a project like this uber-simple electric-assist (incomplete) or the no-weld recumbent. If anyone knows of any other projects like these, I'd like to see them.Pictures of the bike to follow- it's a fairly generic short-frame mountain bike, probably intended for dirt jumping as it's got a short geometry, thick downtube and a low seat/short seat tube. The front fork is a "suspension" fork with about 1" of travel and too much preload to be any use on roads, everything else is standard.

CNC Miller as a laser cutter

I have a theory that I would think should work, but opinions are good. If I was to get a powerful laser diode, like 300mw, and machine out a holding device for it to go into a CNC millers collet, then wired it up to a power supply, and put it in a CNC machine.... Would I have a half ass laser etcher? I would have to manually turn the laser on or off, and the feed would have to be really slow, but would I be at least able to engrave stuff?

How to change diagram for EL Wire Inverter

As you all know, building it yourself is almost always cheaper! I've been doing a lot with EL Wire recently and I want to make my own inverters since the ones online can be pricey. There seem to be a LOT of ways to make an inverter. I liked this one in particular: http://www.timercircuitdiagram.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/cqs1263343377k.jpg What would I need to change to achieve an output of about 200v at about 500hz? I've read that this is optimal for EL wire.

continuous to step rotation in legos?

I have a thing that rotates in lego, it has one revolution per 5 minutes. I want it to be connected to something else so that the other thing has one rotation per hour. But it has to rotate in steps, so after every five minutes it has to rotate 1/12 revolution at one time. Can anybody think of a good mechanism? It won't work to make only one pin on the five minute ring so it only ticks the other gear one pin per rotation, that would go too slow because with one revolution per five minutes the transition would take too long. It has to be a short moment. thanks

Metric Measurements

I love Instructables, but I find that I use it less and less lately. The main reason is the need to go through all the instructions and convert all the measurements from the old British system to the metric system that everyone else in the world uses. I do have a plugin for my browser, but it doesn't work on my tablet or phone, which I use more often when building stuff. It's 2017. Literally 95% of the worlds's population uses the metric system, and we have computers. Is it not possible for you guys to knock up a little programming routine that converts all the measurements if I'm in a metric country? I understand this is an American site aimed at an American audience, but it seems you're cutting off a huge number of potential site users here.

Voltage question - 4 battery operated soap dispenser to AC powered awesomeness

Alright, so first time post here, I have been interested in converting my automatic soap dispenser from DC power to AC power using an old 5V cellphone charger. Last night I did the deed, actually really simple, I followed the general idea of this instructible, though my mod didn't include a double pole double through switch, I just took the batteries out and connected the AC charger's wires directly to the battery terminals. Here's my question though: While it works, its not quite as powerful as I though it would be, its actually a little weaker than it used to be when I had batteries with a fresh charge. It originally had 4 batteries, so I used a 5V charger. I have another charger setting around, but its a 7V, do you guys think thats too much of a jump? Should I wait till I can find a 6V charger? Am I going about this the wrong way? I really don't know anything about voltage, but the concept of converting this stationary item to AC seemed like a good idea and I'll really enjoy not having to replace the batteries all the time. Thanks for any help!

Wooden blender base // power drill to food blender converter

I love projects which use power drills to power kitchen appliances: example 1 example 2 example 3 example 4 I live in a tiny home and the idea of having just one DC motor acting as a multi-functional appliances makes sense to me. Now, what I would love is to use my power drill as a food processor/blender. Actually, people have already made an immersion blender with a paint mixer and a normal blender by sticking the drill bit directly into an old blender blade. This is a great start, but it's not the best for when I need to blend something at high speeds for a long time. What would be great is to expand that last instructable with a base such that A) the vessel is upright and B) secure, and that C) I can safely push my drill against without worrying about twisting or anything. I've attached a potential schematic. Where I get lost is how to keep the rods/gears securely in place in a wooden/acrylic base without causing lots of friction against wood. I have close to zero handyman experience so if someone took this up I'd be eternally grateful! Alternatively, a belt could be used as done in food processors (example). It seems like it would be harder to drill downwards onto a kitchen counter, though.

RHD Right Hand Drive Conversion Kit for car auto van

I want to develop, design, and build a right hand drive conversion kit.  My goal is to make it simple as possible, but safe. Easy to make from off the shelf parts. Easy to customize to fit any vehicle. Inexpensive. All input would be greatly appreciated. I am a rural mail carrier and I think we could design and build a modular system that could fit in any car and would help mail carriers across the country.

Legality of putting airsoft gun into a real gun conversion kit??

Hey Instructables, I have a question about the legality of a project that I'm designing, as I don't want to make something illegal. As those who follow me on this site know, I play a lot of airsoft. I've recently been trying to design a new kind of airsoft rifle, and I would like a bullpup design (the magazine well is located behind the trigger to make a shorter gun). I was looking around on the net and I found this http://www.mountsplus.com/AR-15_Accessories/AR-15_Scope_Rings/MZ-1022.html   It's a bullpup conversion for your standard Ruger 10/.22 rifle. i checked the legality of this conversion for the state I live in, California, and found that it IS in fact legal, as long as you only use a 10.22 in it, don't use an automatic, your magazine contains 10 rounds or less, and the barrel over 18 inches, with an overall gun length of 25 inches. Normally bullpup guns are illegal in California, but since the 10/.22 is a rimfire instead of a centerfire, and the ban only applies to centerfire guns, this conversion falls into a neat loophole, and is legal for sale on a normal license.  HOWEVER: I don't plan on putting a 10/.22 in this thing, I plan on tearing out all the internals of the conversion rendering it permanently effectively useless for a real-steel gun, and building a field-spec airsoft gun system inside it, making it basically a nonlethal toy for sports like any other airsoft gun. The final design would be built to the legal specs of a airsoft gun in the united states, with an orange barrel tip and a non-ballistic caliber.  I can even make the final gun fit into the real steel size requirements if that would help the legality. Basically, I don't know if this is legal or not, and haven't been able to find it online. As far as I can figure, it would be legal because the conversion kit counts as a STOCK, rather than a receiver or firearm in and of itself, so that gives a lot more leeway I would think.  I just want to be doubly sure before I begin this project, due to the heightened paranoia over guns and gun laws at this point, I don't want to be thrown in jail for making a toy.

Anything to say about a paintball marker to airsoft sniper conversion?

I have designed, and will be converting a Tippmann 98 paintball marker into an Airsoft sniper rifle. I already made one, and it is accurate to about 250 feet, is the equivalent of a single shot bolt action rifle, and works quite well. That gun, however, is now with my friend, so I am going to make myself a better one, and give you an Instructable! The gun will probably be finished by sometime in February. In the interim, I will be posting a basic how-to on how to make the older version that my friend still has. I am basically making this topic to see what people have to say about this. Yes this is real, and will be made and detailed. Any questions? Comments? Criticism? Random outbursts? Bring it on!

Original Xbox HDD useable as a normal PC HDD?

I recently got an old PC from the Salvation Army, and decided to harvest it. Turns out I can use all the parts for a working computer(an old computer running Windows 98 on a Pentium II, but a computer nonetheless). However, it has a 4GB HDD. This threw me off of the idea of reusing it, until I remembered my old original Xbox that I harvested(I do that a lot), and luckily I kept the 80GB HDD from it :D. It has the same old standard PATA  and 4-pin Molex power connector as the 4GB. It's just a normal Microsoft HDD(from external appearances). So can I use it as a normal hard drive for my recently obtained old computer, and just format it? Or is there some kind of encryption/coding that makes it only useful for an Xbox?

Low AC to DC conversion

Hi, I'm looking for simple way to convert a low AC into a usable DC, of say 4 - 5 volts for charging batteries. I recently saw one discussed online, specced at costing about a quarter, but couldn't find a way to do it, or a way to purchase something like that. Thanks!

Color Conversion

So, I was recently playing my 3ds, when I figured out that the firmware I downloaded, "Luma", can take screenshots. However, there is one problem. The program which takes the screenshots assumes that the 3ds is using 22 bit colors, when it is actually using 16 bit colors So, the image's colors are quite distorted. This is a problem. However, this shouldn't be impossible to fix, right? If I'm correct, we should be able to do the correct conversion as long as it was saved in a lossless format. Are there any programs which do this?

K40 Chinese laser conversion to Arduino

After fixing most of the issues on cheap laser cutter I am about to do the next step and install an Arduino board to get rid of the dongle and crappy controller. I also would like to put this in the form of a nice Instructable so others can upgrade their machines as well. But during my research I noticed that several different versions of the controller, laser power supply and control panel exist. If you are interested in upgrading your machine so you can use Inkscape directly and no longer need a dongle and crappy software: Post a pic of your laser power supply (including a clear pic of the connection terminals), a pic of your control panel (both from the outside and the bottom), let me know if you already have safety switches for the lid and water flow. Everything posted here in time will be included in the Instructable if it is different from my machine. Once the Ible is finnished you will get detailed instructions on what you need, how to program the Arduino, get the plugins working in Inkscape and how to do your first real engravings and cuttings on the new setup after calibrating everything. Here is a video showing raster and vector engraving followed by cutting the piece out - what more can I ask for if only spare parts are used? ;) https://youtu.be/GqFTPMBchyQ

"Call Me Maybe": The Joseph Ducreux Translation

We all love Joseph Ducreux. The below meme (sorry you have to scroll all the way to the bottom to see it) gave me the idea for this forum. I decided Decreuxize the entire "Call Me Maybe" song! You can find the original lyrics here. Below is the parody. Engage in a Conversation with Me ~ Possibly I deposited a wish in the cylindrical reservoir. Do not inquire of me as to of what my fancy consisted, As I will forever withhold from you this piece of information. I turned my eyes upon your person as my wish descended, pulled by gravity, And currently, you are blocking my desired path. I would barter my soul in exchange for the gain of one of the cravings of my heart, And low-value coins in exchange for an osculation. I did not seek out this situation, However, currently, you are blocking my desired path. Your gaze was unwavering, Torn breeches, Epidermis was exposed, The night exhibited an unusually high temperature, And there were active air currents.
