THE *COOL* COOLING HAT

Ok I had an idea... Yesterday while I was taking processors off of motherboards.... I found a rather normal looking heat sink. and droped it on my hat. By now you have probably figured it out that I have a messy room and I want to make a cool(ing) hat. So I am thinking of running a little pump (very little) and fan off of 1-2 9v batteries. Some Kind of coolant (water) and a couple of prototypes And I will have a cooling hat.... (YES PEOPLE I REALIZE ITS WINTER!!! (where I live)) Any ideas ?

I need help with a THERMOELECTRIC COOLER project?

My project I would like to complete is a thermoelectric piece of turbo piping to cool on my friends drift car it needs to be able to run on a 12v battery .I am looking at buying a few of these http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-store/item/pjt-7/40mm-x-44mm-thermoelectric-cooler/1.html building a square piece of turbo piping to put it in. I am still not quite sure exactly how it works. I am a Ford Technician, Ford uses them in the heated and cooled seats so they kinda explained how they work but they left quite a bit out. So a lil info or suggestions would be appreciated thanks. If I build it I'll be sure and put the build up on here.

Laptop Cooling Question

I'm using a laptop-sized, vented, inverted vegetable tray to keep the laptop cool. It's quite effective even without any fans in this scorching heat. I added a CPU fan underneath ( 12 V, 0.42 A), and ran it off a USB cable from the laptop. The air is quite nice, but one thing I'm a bit worried is, when I touch the top of the laptop, it slightly vibrates constantly due to the fan underneath. Is that dangerous for the laptop? I'm planning to add another fan beneath the hard disk. The one I have now, is under the laptop's CPU fan. Another thing I would like to know is that, is it okay to run two fans of 042 A each, from two USB ports? Each USB port can supply 0.5 A max current. Running one fan off each port should be okay? But, today, the temperature was quite high in the afternoon, nearly 50 degrees! I'm thinking of buyin a readymade laptop cooler. One of these three cheap ones at ebay India: http://cgi.ebay.in/Folding-Chill-Pad-Stand-Laptop-Cooler-Cooling-2-Fan-/250631119144?cmd=ViewItem&pt;=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash;=item3a5ac76128 http://cgi.ebay.in/Chill-Pad-Stand-Laptop-Cooler-3-Fans-USB-Fan-LED-Light-/250629679857?cmd=ViewItem&pt;=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash;=item3a5ab16af1#shId http://cgi.ebay.in/New-Super-Mini-2-Fan-Foldable-Laptop-Cooling-Cooler-Pad-/280504780978?cmd=ViewItem&pt;=LH_DefaultDomain_203&hash;=item414f6348b2 Please advise / comment. Power supply cooling

I'm building a power supply for my cnc machine that gives off about 37volts at 8 amps, and 12 volts at 0.9 amps. All of the transformers are from radioshack (using 6 heavy duty, 25.2volts, 2 amps transformers, 4 in parallel giving off 25.2 vdc at 8 amps, and 2 12.6 volts in parallel. Together in series gives about 37 volts at 8 amps. using 1 25.2 volts 450mA transformer, center tapped) My case does not have enough room for proper cooling such as fans. My case is water tight though, should I fill it up with something like mineral oil to keep the transformers cool?

power supply cooling

Normally I'm pretty good with electronics, but I need some help with this problem. I'm building a power supply for a cnc machine and I need help designing a circuit to power fans when it's over a certain temperature. Here's some things it needs: 1) 12 volts supply (easy with a transformer and filtering it) 2) power fans when it reaches a certain temperature. 3) still keeps the fans on even though the rest of the system is off. 4) after the system if off and it's down to temperature then the transformer turns off, to save electricity and to not make it hot after a long time. If possible can someone draw up a schematic? Thanks in advance!

Liquid Cooling - Body

Its so hot and... well.... I made a device to cool myself down! I might make an instructable, but basically, I took two 20oz bottles with caps, poked 2 holes in the top of one, 1 hole in the other. I then ran tubing between the two, and in the bottle with 2 holes, I added a bit of tubing to put the air intake below water level. I filled the 2'holer up with icewater, and blew a bit on the air intake to get it started. It works very well, to say the least! :P

Rapid decompression cooling? Answered

Is a possible way to super cool a gas (nitrogen or oxygen) to liquid temperatures by using a sub-zero tank of 5000 psi compressed air to blast that gas over a radiator and therefore cool the gas in the radiator to a liquid, then quickly pump it to a chilled high pressure insulated tank.

Maximum cooling efficency

I am looking to build a compact cooling unit, sized under 12"x12"x12".  I have seen and built 2 of the most common types of home made air conditioning units.... 1) Run air across a block of ice or other frozen object. 2) Blow a fan through a whirl (or other pattern) of copper tubing and pump very cold water through. So my question is which would offer more cooling capacity? The first option is cooling with Ice which is below freezing, with minimal surface area.  The second option is cooling with cold water but still above 32 degrees, could potentially have more surface area.

Would these mods be cool?

Hey I have some ideas for a DS mod, a Game Boy mod and a NES mod. What do you think? 1. DS lite in a DVD case (so it can be stored on a shelf) with solar cells instead of the li-ion battery 2. Game Boy in a scientific calculator (GB Pocket, of course) 3. Working NES console around the size of a double bed (with removeable controllers and games to the same growth ratio) It would be a real help if you could post comments on what you think (constructive critisism only)

Super cooled Water

Hey all, I wasn't able to find where a short discussion about Super cooled water was posted not long ago, and I wanted to relate this incident; so if I get no replies, that is ok. I just thought it was kind of neat the way this occurred. Last night, well, I guess it was actually this morning ( 00:30 ), I left work and went to my car, got myself situated, and before driving off, I grabbed a bottle of water that was in the cup holder. I distinctly remember shaking it to make sure the water was NOT frozen. I also took note that the bottle was partially imploded; something I would have expected as the temp was down to about 17 o F. When I opened the bottle, put it to my mouth and tilted it, the unexpected happened. Between the moment of releasing the vacuum that had formed and my trying to drink from the bottle ( about 3 seconds), the water froze to a Slushy consistency. For a moment I was perplexed why I was getting no water in my mouth, and then it slid from the bottom, and it stopped at the neck of the bottle. I had forgotten that this could happen. I must have sat there looking at it for a good 2 minutes trying to get something out of the bottle, when I thought I would blow some warm air into it. The bottle inflated slightly, and the air passed by the slush, and when I released, I got a face full of slush. I had to laugh at myself all the way after that little incident. :-)

Could this cooler cool?

My idea is that instead of putting ice in the same spot as the beverages, you put them away from them. In the cooler, instead of four walls and one bottom, there would be eight walls and two bottoms. In the inner walls(the walls in the cooler) will carry ice water(with salt to make it colder perhaps?) and so would the very bottom. The center will of course carry the beverages which would become cold by the ice from the bottom and the sides. For a lid, I was thinking of just plain of latches, or a ledge on all four sides to support a lid. Also, which is better for a cooler? Foam or plastic?

It said "cool wash"!

Who'd a thunk it?Climate change is making sheep shrink!Cold weather tends to select for larger-bodied mammals - polar bears, mammoths, walruses etc. Larger, stringer individuals are more likely to survive long enough to reproduce. The same is true for wild sheep.A new report in Science shows that Scotland's warming climate has allowed smaller-bodied, shorter-legged sheep to survive - a 5% change in only 22 years. The trend seems to be continuing, "But it's too early to say if, in 100 years, we will have chihuahuas herding pocket-sized sheep." Cool Batch applet

Hey whats up the names Jason. I am 13 and like to play with computers but not like Halo (although i am guilty of occasionally playing Halo) what interest me is computer logic and programming. So right now i am half-way decentish with Qbasic and consequently Visual Basic, but the language i am most fluent in is just plain old DOS scripting (batch files). My math teacher at the begging of the year my math teacher announced that once o twice a month we would have a pop quiz on square roots and squares of numbers 1-20. Now to say the least I am poor with memorization. So i tried flash cards and starin at a sheet with the squares and square roots on it. but I was pretty consistently getting 60s and 70s. Now being a pretty good student this upset me and my parents weren't exactly happy. So then i decided i would make a batch file to quiz me on this, my first one was on sqrts. writing this took forever so even still i made another for squares. These programs help me study immensely and i now get a perfect 100 every quiz.. i then started thinking that there must be a way to speed up the writing of a simaler quiz program. thats why i wrote this, and i know it is probably mediocre but i like it so be nice. (You can do whatever you want with this source code, and while not required i would prefer credit if you distribute a mod of this batch file.)Here it is:rem The purpose of this batch is to automate the process of making another batch that is used to quiz a person@echo off:startclsEcho Make a Quizecho.echo.rem this part creates a variabl that wil be used in creating the final batch fileecho enter the name of the fileecho .bat wil automaticaly be tacked ont to the endSet /p filename=echo.echo.rem This just creates a ariable that is the title of the the game to be createdecho now enter the title of the quizset/p title=echo.echo.rem this is where the user inputs question part one and it becomes a variableecho enter question part 1Set /p quespt1=echo.echo.rem this ask for the second part of the question echo enter qeustion part 2set /p quespt2=echo.echo.Rem this declares some variables just for shorthandset line=echo.set ec=echoRem this creates a file that user named a while back and then fills it with some preliminary textecho @echo off>%filename%.batecho :start>>%filename%.batecho cls>>%filename%.batecho echo %title%>>%filename%.batecho %line%>>%filename%.batecho %line%>>%filename%.batrem this part is called midstart because ideally later you can repeat this multiple times depending on how long your quiz isset next=0:midstartset /a next=%next%+1rem now we ask for the question of the questionecho now enter the question for the current questionSet /p questmp=echo.echo.rem now we ask for the answer for that questionecho now the answer to that same questionSet /p anstmp=rem More txt inserting (the %%answer%% is used so that in the batch file being created it shows up as %answer%)echo echo %quespt1% %questmp% %quespt2%>>%filename%.batecho set /p answer=>>%filename%.batecho if %%answer%% == %anstmp% goto next%next%>>%filename%.batecho echo you lost>>%filename%.batecho pause>>%filename%.batecho goto start>>%filename%.batecho :next%next%>>%filename%.batecho echo You got it right>>%filename%.batecho %line%>>%filename%.batecho %line%>>%filename%.batecho you have asked %next% question(s)echo.echo.echo If you would like to make a new question simply type "n" and press enterecho However to input your last question type "l" and press enterset /p endchoice=if %endchoice% == l goto endif %endchoice% == n goto restart:restartgoto midstart:endset /a next=%next%+1rem now we ask for the question of the questionecho now enter the question for the current questionSet /p questmp=echo.echo.rem now we ask for the answer for that questionecho now the answer to that same questionSet /p anstmp=rem More txt inserting (the %%answer%% is used so that in the batch file being created it shows up as %answer%)echo echo %quespt1% %questmp% %quespt2%>>%filename%.batecho set /p answer=>>%filename%.batecho if %%answer%% == %anstmp% goto next%next%>>%filename%.batecho echo you lost>>%filename%.batecho pause>>%filename%.batecho goto start>>%filename%.batecho :next%next%>>%filename%.batecho echo you won>>%filename%.batecho echo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!>>%filename%.batecho %line%>>%filename%.batecho echo click to exit>>%filename%.batecho pause>>%filename%.batEcho And thats it your doneecho.echo click to exitset /p end=And thats it so have fun and feel free to comment

Can one cool air with a bicycle pump?

Here is the thing. I'm going on a 5 day trip and I'm taking a cool box with me. A cool box will only stay cold for half a day with ice in it. Compressed gas becomes cold when it expands, but buying cans of whatever gas and releasing them in the box is wasteful and expensive. Air out of the bicycle pump is kind of cold, but not near cold enough. How can I decrease the temperature coming out of the nozzle ? Or does someone have a better idea on how to turn muscle power into cool drinks.

Has anyone used underground piping before to cool a house?

I bought a 110 Victorian home in Middle Georgia and was studying about installing underground piping to help cool the house. Has anyone experimented with 5 inch PVC before underground to cool with? I took a study of temps in the house, attic and crawl-space to see if I pulled air from the crawl space, I could use that cool air to help circulate in the house to assist cooling. I found that the crawl-space was actually as close to the outside temp. It wouldn't help. I then studied using piping to put under ground about 3 feet and use a to-and-from push fans then tie it into the fan-only central heat and air system. I then wonderered if I would cause a positive preasure issue. I haven't tested it yet, but I think the ground temp is about 68 degrees constant if you go at least 3 feet deep! Any comments?

Watercooling a PC with a central heating radiator?

So I'm completely new to water cooling, I own a closed loop cooler and I know the names of the water cooling parts and assembly, but I have no real experience. I presume it's possible to use a normal radiator as a passive radiator in a loop, but I've got a couple of questions. First, do I have to be worried about what the radiator and waterblocks are made of, are the metals important? Second, will I need a significantly more powerful pump than the standard D5? Thanks! P.S. the rad I had in mind is this http://www.screwfix.com/p/flomasta-type-11-single-panel-single-convector-radiator-white-300-x-800mm/38602   It's rated for 1505 BTU/hour, which equates to 441W, which is in theory plenty my PC (4670K, HD7850 which I'll probably upgrade in the near future) The reason for using this kind of radiator is because they're far cheaper and passive, although I suppose the increase in pump power may negate quietness of no fans. It's also more fun ;)

Terrace Cooling System - Ideas

Hi, my name is Michael and I'm from Austria. Nowadays we have about 38°C (100°F). We have a Terrace which has a area of 33m² (355.21ft²). This terrace has a roof, which consists of polycarbonate plates. We have the problem that it is very hot on our terrace although we use awnings. Now I've discovered some ideas how i could cool down our terrace. The first one could be a water cycle, with a container and a pump. Then the pump could pump up the water. The water flows down the roof and flows back into the container. I don't know if this is a efficient way to cool down our terrace? The 2nd possibility I discovered is water mist. I found this video to show the principle: http://youtu.be/bYTcMCm2zWg I don't know if it is possible to sit underneath the water mist without getting wet?? I just want some Ideas and oppinions. Maybe some of you have realized their own cooling system? I know how to program an Arduino and other microcontrollers and I am able to develop electronic circuits. So I think i have the basic knowledge for building such a system, but I can't decide which principle i should use? I am sorry for my bad english skills, but i hope that you can understand me.  Thanks in advance Mike
