Copying Hard Drive?

I'd like to know, is there any way to copy EVERYTHING from my computer hardrive (this one) and put it on another harddrive, BUT still in this "tower"? As in, I just like swap out the drives. This comp's HD is 70gig, but my other ones 220 gigs. I want to keep all my programs and such, but I want to put it on a bigger HD. Any suggestions? and please please please! let it be freeware. I just love it. Also, I am using XP, and so is the other computer with the bigger HD, but for some reason, the other computer has bigger icons and not as good a quality.

Not a bug -- Direct copy of my website page on Instructable

I just found this page on Instructables whose text is a direct copy from my website. The Instructable page is https://www.instructables.com/id/A-Simple-Unpadded-Native-style-baby-pouch--or-sl/My page is http://crafts.sleepingbaby.net/tubesling.htmlThe user who "contributed" it is no longer an active member, apparently. Her pictures were decent, but I would like attribution for my work if possible.

Does Instructables have a policy or consensus on plagiarism?

I was going through all (yes, all) of the I'bles tagged in the Science category (to help populate the Physics Group) and ran across the following:Build Levitation Device. published by ermak777 on 12 Feb 2008.Build Levitation Device. published by kinofanat on 14 May 2008.The duplication is quite astonishing, right down to the typos in the description of the video. I've flagged the later edition as "Inappropriate", to help staff find it.

Pasting from Word

I discovered that if I write a post in Word and paste it into a comment box, it destroys the paragraphs and sentences by splitting them onto various lines as shown in the image. I took this block of text from the Tesla Wiki, pasted it into word, then copied and pasted it into a comment box. It looks fine until you actually click the "make comment" button.

Plagiarism fix - add another option to the flagging feature

An instructable was recently featured wherein many of the viewers of this instructable recognized the images from a different Author, and no credit to the name of the original author. I tried to flag it for admin, but there are only "Wrong Category", "Inappropriate", "Incomplete", or "Spam" as options to flag with. Although I don't want to add more work to your plate, I think if the community can flag a directly plagiarized ibble, that would be best. Here are the posts:  Original by KaptainSkarlet:  https://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-gorgeous-Dragons-Egg/ Copycat:  https://www.instructables.com/id/Really-Cool-Dragon-Eggs-for-Easter/ I think keeping the Instructables community free to copy is fine, but not direct ripping of the same images another author used. And not without crediting the author. Thanks!

Instructables, Contests and Copying

Copying and rehash are not things often regarded as good for do-it-yourself communities, yet Instructables is currently quite accepting of things that would fit under this umbrella and in some cases even sponsor it. I hope to convince the administrators that new rules need to come into play--particularly with regard to competitions. I'll discuss why unoriginal projects are a problem, lay out the causes of this and present some solutions that the administration could pursue. Copying is a problem for Instructables because making your own example of someone else's creation with no alterations does not advance development at all. In many cases, these copies even infringe on copyrights. In competitions, such as ones on Instructables, copied projects can become popular and even eclipse original designs; this discourages originality. An author might ask himself why he should bother investing time researching and developing a project when he could just as easily locate an existing design and copy it instead. In many cases, the causes of copying can be innocent, such as when a child who posts his friend's favorite paper airplane design (which actually originates out of a copyrighted book, for instance). While innocent, this action still proves unhealthy to the DIY community. There are also less innocent types of copying as well; such as those who knowingly steal creations and post photographs or links to media of creations not of their own design. While this latter type is less prevalent on Instructables than places like YouTube, it still occurs due to embedding. To discourage unoriginality and encourage advancement, Instructables staff should make a few changes to how entries are looked at as far as appropriateness goes, as well as what gets featured or judged a winner in contests. Projects that are not original should be recognized as such. It might be appropriate to outright disqualify an entry or issue it a penalty or rank reduction in judging. It is not advisable to feature unoriginal designs. These sort of steps could encourage people to contribute rather than copy. I hope I have inspired thought in others regarding this. I have talked about the problems of copying, why it happens and how it might be addressed--hopefully it is.

Copy and Improve

Just Like on thingiverse I think people should have options to make their own copies and improvements of Instructables. People should be able to flag instructables as copies or improvements in case the author didn't realize and when you are browsing instructables the copies should have their own tab like videos and slideshows so that they don't get in the way.

Killerk copies

Are all killerk copies really killerk copies? most people have never even heard of him. does that mean every tube, block trigger list type gun is a copy? most people would say yes, others would say no and the rest would not even care. so are they really that bad, because I've seen some killerk copies that are better than killerks . Are all knex guns that bad?

Feature request - copy step.

Could you add the ability to copy a step from one instructable to another? For instance, I do a lot of work with the ATtiny chips. Each instructable has the same instructions telling how to load the chip definitions into the Arduino IDE and program the chip. Without this the instructable would be incomplete, and it is a lot of work to copy it every time. Thank you JRV31

Are you allowed to copy contents

Hi, I just glanced through the Terms and Conditions and I am trying to understand if people are allowed to copy authors contents on this site, to published on places like my blog. Or do you need a written consent from Instructables. Thank you

A member is copying other member's instructables

hstough101 appears to be copying other members instructables and posting them as his own.  His instructable "Dome Lights" uses the same photo I posted in https://www.instructables.com/id/Globe-Lights/.  His other two instructables have photos that look very familiar as well.

Blood Copy

So, the last forum topic i put in was about a site called blood copy, it was about vampires and a weird fake blood Supposedly for "vampires" being sent to people in the mail, called True Blood. Turns out this was a huge marketing scam advertising a new TV series Called True Blood

FREE DOWNLOAD The Boy Electrician

Rawfire.torche.com/~opcom/ Scroll down to the electronics section on the above link, for a copy of The Boy Electrician, its a 40-Mb PDF download. Its not a great scan, but is readable. My copy right adviser has said The Boy Electrician copyright expired and was never renewed, new new material included with a copy, can be protected. This copy seems to be okay. As for my copy, I got the go ahead, and will be taking my time to do a really clean scan before I upload it to the Internet Archive, however, before that, I might upload the above mentioned copy as a stop-gap measure.

Instructables Stolen Word For Word, Picture For Picture From Authors on Other Sites

This Instructable, as Ranie-K pointed out, is an exact copy of this by someone else on another site (who wrote it at an earlier date). While the author did credit the original author they didn't bother to take their own pictures or write their own instructions. They copied the original author's exact instructions and even used the original author's photos. The same is true of their other Instructable, which seems to be copied from here. This doesn't seem fair.

I came across this instructable. https://www.instructables.com/id/Watermelon-on-Grill/ The images are copied. I doubt if the author has really done this recipe. Found the same photos in the link below. http://www.polywoodinc.com/blog/food/bizarre-b-q-grill-recipes-that-are-surprisingly-delicious/ I am not sure how it got featured. I feel original 'ibles should be found and given more importance.

Startup file to copy a picture

I have a school tablet that was forced upon us by my school. The IT department at my school insists that the computers stay 'uniform' by having the same background for desktop and log on etc. As the mischief making students that we are, we quickly tracked down the destination file and replaced the image with one of our own. But the IT found a way to stop this by changing the file back every few times we boot. So I was wondering if I could get some help with the coding for copying a file on boot. All help is appreciated.

Someone copied my instructable and taken part in same contest

HelloI submitted my first intructable Make Compact LED Lamp (CLL) from a Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) on 2nd June 2009. Link to my intructable is https://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-CLL-from-a-dead-CFL/I also taken part in contest Get The LED Out. Today while I was browsing entries for that contest, I found an entry which is a COPY of my intructable. Link to that instructable is https://www.instructables.com/id/COMPACT-LED-LIGHT/Only some differences are there in both instructables. That person submitted instructable on 11th June so it indicates it might be a copy of my instructable.I wonder how judges allowed that intructable to enter in contest. What to do now?

Multiple copies of subscription emails

I've received four copies so far of an identical email giving me a subscription update, telling be about Lith's group. At first I thought it was a Gmail server error and it wasn't actually updating my inbox after I read and deleted them, but the timestamps are different, all a minute apart. This happened a while back, and I never saw that it was officially resolved but the problem just went away.

DIY "copies" of designs

Hey guys and girls,I was wondering - what do people see as "right" when it comes to making DIY versions of designs. Obviously there is some level where it is inspiration, but what about when the design is based around a shape? For example, this instructable Universal lamp shade polygon building kit clearly uses the same shape as the IQ-light, a fact the author acknowledges.I want one of these Tote, but I would never pay US$114 for it.So is it wrong to try to make a copy of the flat pattern? I've been trying to get it done in CAD, not there yet but getting close. What about if I exactly copied by tracing the shape. I have no intentions of selling it, is it still wrong?

Copied Instructables

Maybe this post could have stayed in the topic of Instructables Etiquette so call me redundant ;).Anyways, is it considered poor taste to repeat an Instructable of another person? I found an instructable that is exactly what I'm working on but I've found the said posting could have been better presented. Granted the posted reassured me the project is feasible but their 7 pages of instructions with two pictures could have been easily condensed into one page. In making a copy Instructable I would not hesitate in giving credit and link of the original person. Anything thoughts?

Minecraft Strategies Book Author Copies

I was cleaning out my Inbox a few minutes ago and came across an exchange from June of last year saying one of my Instructables was to be included in the Ultimate Unofficial Guide to Minecraft Strategies and asking what name I wanted to appear in the book. I replied and got confirmation of my choice but I haven't heard anything since. I recently received my Author copy for How to Fix Absolutely Anything which made me wonder if that was being done for this Minecraft book too. It was published more recently so maybe I'm just jumping the gun but I wanted to make sure I hadn't missed the boat on this. If free author copies aren't going to be a thing in the future or for every book is it at least possible to find out which books contain your Instructables?

Incorrect Links

For the last month or so, when I place multiple links near each other in my instructables, one tends to copy the other. So, while I copy and paste the proper url into each separate link, they end up being the same. It's happened multiple times with multiple instructables. I've been able to fix it, but it usually takes a couple tries for it to stick.

best practices for translations

Hello everybody!  i was wondering if any of you have a suggestion as the best way to publish a translation of one of my instructables.  should i have a duplicate of the instructable in the second language (ie, one copy of the instructable in language #1 and then a second copy of the same instructable in language #2) or make the present one longer by adding the translated text? any thoughts?  -razorwinged

Option for Flagging copied content instructable

I opened up the site and saw this great looking lamp instructable on the homepage (https://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Recycled-TetraBox-Lamp/) I really liked it and thought of putting up a comment when I saw that in a previous comment, another user mentioned seeing the exact same images and content before in another place. It's nothing new that people are blatantly copying content(which might be copyrighted too) for winning prizes, but these appearing on the main homepage is a little disappointing. Another example of such project getting featured on homepage was a 9V-battery top spy bug instructable some time back. I understand the instructable staff can't keep knowledge of every project ever posted, and to feature only the original ones. But can we have an option to flag as "Blindly Copied" with link to original work, so the instructable staff can check and remove it? None of the current flag categories match the requirement,
