Costume- Peacock

Last year I created a Jellyfish costume created out of discounted yarn, tull, a Clear umbrella and a string of electroluminescent wire. It got rave reviews and was just fun to play with. So, I have a vision but really no skills as far as technology or art are concern. I'm trying to deveolp a Peacock costume that will be primarly worn at night. I want the feathers to open and close preferably by a switch. I plan on having electroluminescent wire throughout the costume. I've been racking my rain and asking my techy friends for ideas but I keep coming up short. Anyone have an idea on how to "motorize" the feathers? Any advice is welcome and appriceated!!!

Zombie Costume Question

I am working on a soldier zombie costume, but people keep telling me that I look like a nazi soldier. They have me worried that my costume will be in bad taste, but I am not so sure as there are no actual nazi symbols on my costume. Should I risk looking like a nazi or should I try to distance myself from that? If you think I should distance myself from that, how would you recommend doing that? Some have suggested that I embrace it and wear a red armband, but with a mocking symbol, like a smiley-face or a peace symbol, a sort of mild satire.

Muppets Animal Costume?

Hi Guys Everyone on this site is so fantastic at making stuff I wondered if one of you might be able to help me to make a Muppets Animal Costume for my friend. I'm thinking of glueing 2 pieces of foam together (will sort of look like Stewie family guys head) as the base then cutting a hole out for the mouth. Ping pong balls for the eyes and some fake fur. I'm going to use a black mesh/netting for the inside of the mouth so you can't see my friend inside the costume/ What do you think? Anyone got any ideas that would work better? If anyone could do an instrucauble for this I will be your bestest friend. Thanks everyone PS: The party is at the end of November, so I guess I should be making it already!

Epic Costumes Winners

Thanks to everyone who entered in the Halloween Epic Costumes Contest! The Epic Costumes category has a legacy of some of the most complex and involved projects on our site. The results are always mind-blowing, and this year was no exception. Like previous years, we had no shortage of amazing, EPIC entries. I am very pleased to report that there was more than several heated debates around the lab when selecting finalists, and it was just short of total bedlam while choosing the winners. First Prize Costume Armor with Wonderflex by volpin The Wonderflex Armor won because it had the best blend of process, presentation, and execution. The project gives you a behind the scenes look at how this professional grade costume was made, almost daring you to try and recreate the painstaking details based on the comprehensive instructions. This custom made costume really defined what we were looking for in an Epic Costume entry, and your votes reflected that. Also, the composition of the photographs really sold the hard work that went into this epic costume. Second Prize   Cthulhu by alexthemoviegeek Life-sized Space Marine Armor by thorssoli Bowser's Castle Costume by Mr. Noack These costumes represented everything we hope for in an epic costume; over-the- top DIY awesomesauce! These costumes used several very clever techniques in construction, and the finished projects really show us the artistry and craftsmanship that the authors put into their work. Third Prize Mr.Freeze Costume by rmorrow4 Alien Xenomorph by Mostlymade Bowser Costume by CassiniCloset Orchard Spider by BrooklynAliens Narnia Minotaur by ellwoodjoe The time and dedication put into these creations is evident, and each have their own complexities and challenges that were masterfully overcome. It’s hard to deny that each of these costumes are indeed “epic” and would win the nod of approval from costumes aficionado’s the world over. Congratulations to all the finalists and a big thank you to everyone that entered, you should feel proud of your amazing, EPIC creation. Remember, costumes aren’t just for Halloween, we have an entire channel dedicated to costumes, so you can dress up and have fun all year. If you didn’t win this time around I hope there was something that has inspired you to make another epic costume, next year’s Epic Costumes is open from right now until this time next year! My Werewolf Costume

Hi everyone! I'm new here, so nice to meet everybody. I just want to show off the beginning of a costume I'm making. I'm planing on finishing it up with a full body suit, but I have to wait for the fur to arrive in the mail. I just discovered Instructables, so I didn't really think about documenting any steps, so I'm gonna try to make another head piece with step by step instructions if anyone is interested. Well, I hope you guys like it! It was a lot of fun to make!https://www.instructables.com/id/Werewolf-Mask/

MY ROBOT COSTUMES ARE FOR SALE!!

I really hate to do this but our family has grown by +1 and I am starting my sophomore year of pursuing a mechanical engineering degree with another two more to go after this.  Sadly, to cover bills and expenses, the robot costumes are up for sale. The men's costume fits me well at 6'1" 190lbs. The women's costume is sized for a 5'3" size 12. I know it's short notice for this years Halloween but if someone acts quick, I can ship quick and maybe you can own contest winning one of a kind most amazing robot costumes ever. Maybe your town has box robot army events or maybe you could start your own army of 2 with these! A few caveats, the costumes have been stored indoors 100% of the time but the steel components were not painted so they have some surface rust (makes for a nice distressed patina). The current state of the costumes requires tying ones self into the costume (with the help of another) which we used bailing wire for. They are large bulky items so shipping will likely be fairly high. Local pickup is available in the Seattle/Tacoma area or maybe "Greyhound Freight" would be a cheap option. Make a reasonable offer on the pair and they can be yours! The detailed build of the costumes can be seen at the instructable below: https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-build-robot-halloween-costumes/

My Costume Picture Entry

So I was hanging out with some buddies of mine in my spartan costume...betcha can't guess which one is me. My costume consists of: Helmet - Cardboard shape, covered in bondo and spraypainted. Bicycle helmey pads inside. Shield - Cut plywood, with a cardboard lambda, covered in bondo and spraypainted. Polyester straps are riveted/gorilla glued on the back. Cape - Scarlet cotton fabric with polyester straps to keep it from choking me. Beard/abs - Mom's eyebrow pencil...If you have experience with spirit gum, use that and fake hair, unfortunately, it didn't cooperate with me. Pantalones - If you're feeling frisky, wear a speedo, if not, brown shorts are acceptable

Illuminated Figure Skating Costume

The animated lighting element in this figure skating costume by ShowOfLight reacts to music by using beat and pitch recognition technology and motion sensor to bring the animation in sync with the performer. While this sounds great, and looks impressive, the video demonstrates how this is one example of technology overshadowing art.  Though many of Marina Polakoff's other works integrate soft circuitry with subtlety and beauty, the line of costumes for the performing arts may be too distracting.  Consider the lovely ice skating routine in the video that must be performed in the dark.  Which were you watching - her salchow or her flashing bananas?  (seriously, there are animated bananas) Regardless of my opinion, I'm sure this is one performance the judges will never forget. via: talk2myshirt

Dr. Zoidberg of Futurama Costume! :)

(thank you for the direction into the forums! haha) :D :D :DI didn't even know who Zoidberg was until my boyfriend told me that he was going to be HIM for halloween, right after we met haha. SO, I was wondering how he was going to do it and I had a few ideas...I ordered a Lab Coat from AllHeart.com or something like that, and had it embroidered with "Dr. Zoidberg". For the Claws, he bought a hot glue gun and some felt and I was kinda puzzled as to how to make them .. cute/realistic/wearable, just make sure to have good scissors, stack the felt 2 at a time and wisely cut so that the 2 pieces match up. I used elastic to keep them on his wrist and stuffed them with polyester fill, to make them more functional. For the FACE...lol..we lucked out. Tripped over a bart simpson mask at Target and we ended up making the eyes into the shape of goggles, leaving tabs on the side for elastic attachment to hold them onto his head. The "mouth fingers" were a pair of women's gloves. (I cut the thumb off and hand sewed it shut and then took the part and attached it to ITSELF in the back, behind the mask, also stuffed the fingers a little. We then painted his head with some cream makeup from.. a halloween store ($1.50) and it goes a long way. You can cover the elastic with it too, but be careful not to dye your eyes red unless you are going to go as Zoidberg with PINKEYE. lol.As he would say "bwoo bwoo bwoo bwoo bwoo!"

Help with costume

I'm making a costume that looks like this- This is actually my profile image. I have lots of corrugated carboard (but no large pieces yet-just medium sized boxes), thin cardboard, foamboard, and a sheet or two of lexan/plexiglass (for the green spikes), and I think I can get some fiberglass, resin, and some bondo. Does anybody have any advice on bending, cutting, dying(lexan-all I've got is clear) the cardboard, foamboard, or lexan? I've also never worked with fiberglass before-all I've heard is that it's a mess. Any tips? If anyone can help me with the head, antenna, armor, or especially the chest, I'd greatly apreciate it.

I am doing a careers project for school. I am researching being a space scientist. As a part of my presentation, I have to dress up as my career. My only idea is wearing a shirt from the science fair with a rocket on it and a lab coat, but I am not sure whether or not space scientists wear lab coats. Any ideas would be very much appreciated!

DIY Iron Man Costume Replica

Advanced Iron forum member TMP just completed his custom Iron Man costume just in time for the film's theatrical premiere. Incredible work! Just look at all those details!!!TMP says he spent $1500-2000 on the material compound alone, never-mind months of trial and error. Via Cool Stuff in SlashfilmIt looks a bit bulky, but it makes sense, a real metal costume would look much rougher than it does in the film (The movie's costume was made of rubber, so it could be more dynamic)It doesn't look as extreme as the film, but it certainly looks more real. Now, if only it could fly......Maybe we can expect more next year? There's quite a buzz for DIY Iron-Man costumes this year.

A day in the life of a new wave costume.

I had to do something for Halloween so I threw this together this morning. I had no idea what I was but my coworkers decided I was new wave. So here's what I did in my costume today. (About half of them are posing. What else was I supposed to do?!) #1 - I started to get ready. #2 - I got bald. #3 - I cleaned the litter box. #4 - I ate some appropriatley colored sherbet. #5 - I did my best Marilyn Monroe impression. #6 - 8 - I posed. #9 - I posed with Ms. Jade Pants. Because it's her birthday! :D #10 - I posed with other people! Left to right - Delores + tatto sleeves + B. Dingle, Death, Me, a demented zombie Nurse, Buckethead. #11 - I did the nightly paperwork while looking very spaced out and then went home.

How to Get Anime Cosplay Costumes

To many cosplayers, the most important thing is not how they look, but the manufacture of cosplay costumes. Generally there are four ways to get the cosplay costumes: get it from the local store, make it by yourself, and find a tailor to make it as your size or order it from the internet.   1 get it from the local store. In Japan, you can get the right costume you want, for the anime cosplay is developed from Japan. Some of the Japan local store even has the officially recognized. Some of the store is not officially recognized but has the same quality that you get from the official one. As for most of the countries of the world, there is not even a store specializing in cosplay costumes. So if you or friends travel to Japan, you can ask them to bring a costume along with his trip.    2 DIY Actually the greatest pleasure to cosplay is made you own costumes and props. Of course, if you really want to make it by yourself, you must be a tailor, what’s more there should be a sewing machine at home. Generally speaking, a person who made costumes needs one month to finish the costume making, from materials selection, the style design and also the props. During this period you should not only go into the techniques and tools, but also the mental concentration. We surely enjoy the fun of making a costume, but to some one it is not a easy thing to do.   3 Make-to-measures.   Tailor-made is surely a good choice if you do not have a sewing machine or you do not have that much time. Remember when you ask a tailor to made you own costume, you should make sure that he had made it before and he know what cosplay is, for the cosplay is not so popular in some place. Made to measure is the best way to get the right size for you, but some time the tailor could not make the right one in you mind. What’s more, the material is too many and expensive to choose.    4 Order it from the internet With the development of the internet, there are more and more on line shops. They get the products directly from the factory and sell it to the costumers, really in good type and quality. You really could save lots of money and enjoy yourself. Such as the China wholesale company. There are many t on-line foreign trade companies like milanoo.com cosplaymagic.com, mooncostumes.com. They get the costumes directly from the factory and sell it to the foreign customers. What we should get into mind is that they have the professional tailor and the costumes are really in a low price and fine quality. Sometime they will have a promotion and you can the cheap cosplay costumes.   In fact, it really cost lots money for a really costume, especially from the franchise house. If you had some one made it for you, you surely can save lots of money but most of the time you can not get the one you like, surely there are seldom tailor could make the cosplay costume. So order from the internet maybe is the best way.

Ideas on how to make a simple crocodile costume for a Peter Pan production?

How can I make a crocodile for a small child(ren) to wear in Peter Pan?  It would be cool if he could open and close the mouth while the other child (in the back) would hit a wooden block for the tick tock.  We have a frog costume, which will cover the kids, but can't figure out how to do a head.  It needs to be simple - I'm no craftsman, but I can sew & glue.

I have an idea for a cool Halloween costume. I know it is a little bit earlllyyyy.... But I don't care. :P I am wanting a costume based on the principle of the mermaid captured costume by using the backpack as a support. I want a tall costume, like a 7ft or so tall. I was thinking have a backpack and sew in a PVC/ Dowell rod standing up going to the head.. But I'm not quite sure of the arms or how I would see out of it. Any help is appreciated or links or just anything and everything. I'm also wanting it to be like a ghost type monster almost shady creature costume. Thanks!

LEDs on a costume?

I have never used LEDs on a costume before, my planned costume will have approximately 50 separate strands of lights on it, in two different colors.  The way the costume is designed, there is simply no place to hide 50 battery packs (20, maybe but not 50), is there a way to attach several strands of lights to one battery pack and still light up for several hours? I was planing on buying a long strip of LEDs that I could cut to length, what types of battery packs would I need to use?  Any instructions, videos or tutorials would be awesome.
