iPod crash question? Answered

Roger-X's iPod Touch appears to have crashed. He was watching a programme via the BBC iPlayer app and turned the iPod over 180°. The picture started to rotate as expected, got to about 45°, then froze for about 30 seconds. After that, the screen switched to a pale-white glowing screen with no image or text. It is not responding to the home button or the main power button, plugging it into our PC gets no response (the PC does not register its existence, either) and, of course, the local Apple store closed 10 minutes before it broke. Any ideas for a fix, folks?

When I tried again with the tag corrected, it didn't crash.

Ubuntu crash help, please? Answered

One of the computers in my house was awfully slow, so I installed Ubuntu to speed it up and add stability. (Yes, I could have just added more RAM. But that wouldn't be free, would it?) Being my first time using Ubuntu, I was really surprised at how much I could push the processor without running out of memory. However,I still have one problem, which seems to be occurring every three days, or so. Spontaneously, the screen turns black for a few seconds, then flashes white, vertical, one-inch wide bars at one-second intervals. I've searched everywhere on the internet, yet I don't even know what the white bars mean. Does anyone know what the bars are, maybe what the cause is, and how I might go about fixing it?

Eagle keeps crashing in Ubuntu, what to do?

Ok, I'm running ubuntu 9.10 on my netbook/laptop, and whenever i go to try and open a file(thats been imported from my desktop, a vista), it gives me an error message that says Invalid data in autorouter block of file (filename & location here) Continue with default autorouter settings? Y/N         Y => pulls up file I then go to edit, (move tool), and I click on a part and all of eagle crashes. I can add parts and it wont crash. It does this even on newly created files. I bet that this is an issue with the version, as there is a newer version out, but I dont understand these things, I am trying to though.

Man Crashes SUV Through Local Building.

This is huge news, a man crashed into a building right in the middle of town at over 75 mph. It is probably hard to understand it's importance if you are unfamiliar to Gig Harbor, but I've walked past that building and driven down that road thousands of times. The building used to be a restaurant, but the owners sold it and it became a fitness gym. It's right at the heart of Gig Harbor, basically. GIG HARBOR, Wash. - An SUV crashed into the 1-2-3 Fit gym at Pioneer Way and Harborview Drive early Wednesday, killing the driver.Witnesses said the driver was traveling at about 75 mph when the vehicle crashed into the building at about 6:30 a.m.The SUV came to rest on a desk. The 26-year-old driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was killed instantly.Four or five people on exercise equipment narrowly escaped injury. Gym member Ryan Ryan was doing push-ups at the time of the crash."The odd part about this is there was no attempt to miss the building, no attempt to brake, and the vehicle speed was three-four times the speed limit," said Ed Troyer of the Pierce County Sheriff's Dept.Link and Video.I know it's a few days old. I was unable to post a topic earlier because of homework.

How to avoid CNC crashes

Hey.I am wondering if it is possible to define particular areas on the bed of my CNC machine which I do not want the toolhead to pass over. My setup is an Arduino powered CNC pen plotter running GRBL. I am generating GCode in inkscape. I know I can set a safe height for the tool to pass over work safely but what if that height doesn't suffice. Can I define an area that the tool must not pass through? As a simple example:Before running a file the tool is at the origin. On sending the file the tool will take the most direct path to the first line to cut/draw. Imagine there is an obstacle that would cause a collision if the tool takes this direct path. Can I do something to ensure the tool navigates around that obstacle?I hope that makes some sort of sense :)Any ideas appreciated

Instructables iOS App Crash on me!

Hi, I started working on an instructables on my instructables on my iPod Touch 4, from Febuary until almost the end of March. My instructable was almost done, just one more step to go. Every step has a lot of photos that was taken with my iPod Touch. Last time I worked on it was when I tried to save the instructable on to my device, and it seem like it did not save to the device properly. I did turn off the iPod and turn it on, since then I was not able to open instructable app. any more. What I ment was I can touch the instructable app., the app. start and loading some stuff, but after a while it crashed! See the attached videos. The first one, after I open up the app. I did not even do anything It crashed. The second one I open up the app. then try to touch the share icon, it then crashed! I don't know what to do right now.  The worse thing was I did not have the backup of the instructables. And I did not save it to my instructables page either!(my bad, I should have done so, I thought it was only one last step left to do and would post it as soon as it done! I guess Murphy's Law just hit me!) I thought about delete the app on my iPod, then download and install a new one from app store. But I afraid that I would lose my instructable that I was working on on the iPod! May be I already did! Or if I have to wait until the new update is available, to see if it works and be able to access to my instructable?????

My computer keeps crashing, help please? Answered

I have a Pentium 4 3ghz, 1.75GB Ram running Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002, Service Pack 2. It crashes all the time (at least once a day, often more) and I get the following screen, with an illegible (error?) message (see image). At which point I have to reboot. Upon rebooting it would either start up and work perfectly fine or say "hard disk error" press control alt delete. When this happens I turn it off and leave it for 10 min or so and turn on the computer again and it will work fine.I at first thought I was demanding too much of it by trying to multitask, such as running several programs and listening to music, but this doesn't seem to be the case, I've notice it rebooting while it is idle and I'm in another room. Or I would start it up and it would crash within 5 minute, without me using it yet.I've tried the following, (which haven't worked):Upgraded the ram, when the problem started I only had 1GB now I have 2GB (although Window's tells me I only have 1.75GB)Installed the program RAMbooster in hopes of freeing up more memory.Disk cleanupFull virus scan, using F-secure which I get with my ISP, and regularly updates.Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, this is a really frustrating problem. (Please don't tell me I need to buy a new computer, I can't afford it right now.)

Bicycle accident is the frame okay? Answered

I struck basically struck a curb (an unmarked road island really) going 17 mph roughly and blew out my front rim. I broke a collar bone because of the accident. Anyways I was wondering if the frame is okay I looked at it and there was no visible cracks anywhere. Its a cheap Schwinn frame and it got me wondering if it would be safe to put a new rim on and go. BTW this is a gas powered motorized bicycle not the cheap ones as shown BEFORE the crash.

Viruses - Are they pure evil?

Recently I came across a racist online, and he really disgusted me. I won't go into the details of what he said, but since he threatened me, I decided I wanted to do something about it. Now, what I'm suggesting would be making another account on the website it's on and acting all friendly, then asking for his email (and he seems stupid enough to give it) and then sending him an attachment on the email to crash his computer. I know it's illegal, but he threatened to come and kill my family, so I could say it was in self defense. So what do you all think? Should I go ahead with it, or would it be a bad idea? The website is youtube by the way, so with him on there (and I think he may live near me, as one of his videos somewhat shows) I'm scared to post anything (and yes I know he won't kill me, but it's freakin me out here) And if you don't agree, he seems to support Hitler if you catch my drift.

Space Trash Crowds Orbiting Satellites

Two or three times a day, a satellite circling Earth narrowly misses destruction by an orbital hailstorm of junk sweeping the busy super highways of space.A spreading cloud of shrapnel from the collision of two satellites earlier this month is making wrecks for working spacecraft around Earth all but inevitable, analysts warn. As the ninth significant crack-up in two years -- including a punctured nuclear satellite -- the wreckage of Iridium 33 and Cosmos 2251 is fostering a chain reaction of collisions that puts billions of dollars of spacecraft and manned space flights at risk.Full article and really cool slideshow: Harmless Debris on Earth Is Devastating in Orbit - Wall Street Journal.via benjaneer.

How do you crash a computer?

Using any common household technology, how can one create a compact device that can crash a computer without actually doing anything to software. hardware crash. idk magnetic fields, large electric currents? something hand-held preferably. Safe to hold not safe to a computer within a few inches.  Update: You are all right, a reversible device is best, but not completely, as in wipes all memory but the computer is not actually destroyed so can still function with a new OS installed

Road Rash

Alright, folks. It's story time. What sorts of crashes have you (or anyone else you know) been involved in while riding a bike? Has anything ever spectacularly malfunctioned with a motorcycle, scooter, or other two or three-wheeled monstrosity? Seen a big crash? Ever bought a bike that had been wrecked? I've got a couple of stories. Which one to tell first..... Oh, I know! One time our '39 Chief set the garage on fire. This was back in the '60s after my grandpa had bought it for my dad, for a hundred bucks cash. 20 year old collector's motorcycle for that kind of money? What was wrong with it, you ask? A lot of things. It needed restoring, and Gramps ran a hotel at the time, and, in his spare time, an Indian museum. Both of the Native American sort and of the American iron sort. Parts were found, damage was fixed, and the bike given a fresh coat of Indian Red before it was fired up. Ran like a dream. Happy, they shut it off and went to bed. Now at this time, that garage was heated by a gas heater. The cork float in the bike's carb swelled up and got stuck, continuing to let gas fill the float bowl, run out the intake, across the floor, and... you guessed it, over to the pilot light. It was a flash fire, but it destroyed the curtains on the door and put a solid layer of char on that brand new purdy paint. Not much else in the garage was flammable, so the fire died nice and quick. The next morning, grandpa and my dad got up bright and early to get to work on the finishing touches, like air in the tires and a test ride. The found quite a suprise, to say the least.

Computer problem: Restore points: gone. Some functionality: gone. Quarantine folder: nothing special. What's wrong? Answered

Some background: OS: XPMachine: Gateway pc - dual processorscondition caused by: Running of Clam-Win Virus checker in Quarantine mode. After the checker finished, I was unable to get to any programs nor able to run anything (including START - RESTART), etc. The mouse worked. The Google side bar was gone. Finally, a 3 finger salute (ctl alt del) shut down the machine. booted to SAFE MODE and found NO restore points. .booted to normal admin and the Sidebar came back. Several of my shortcuts worked at this point(rechecked the restore points, they were definitely gone)Clam-win has no "restore or unquarantine" program of it's own, at least, I couldn't find one....In the Quarantine folder, it appears as though only junk from an unused signon was removed....I am pulling out my hair here, trying to restore full functionality.....(I can't update FireFox when it asks to). Unless there is NO other way, can anyone tell me where to go from here (before I use the SYSTEM RESTORE disk that came with the machine, 3-4 years ago). I would appreciate anything helpful at this point. PS: the image below is not from my scan. It is from an old scan I had saved....when the current scan finished, I had NO functionality at all, and could not get a screen shot... Still, it shows what Clam-Win looks like...

I've been trying to print out a couple of instructables (all the steps in one file), but my browser crashes just about every time I try.If I'm *lucky*, I'll get one file printed successfully before it crashes on the second instructable -- but usually the first attempt will crash the browser. It doesn't crash my system, just the browser itself. The latest message is:"Internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the incovenience".Error Signature:AppName: iexplore.exeModVer: 7.0.6000.16640AppVer: 7.0.6000.16640Offset: 001cd123ModName: mshtml.dllThis particular error is from Internet Explorer, but I've had a similar error producing the same effect from Firefox on the same system (at home).I've also had the same error on Internet Explorer on a different computer (at work).I've had the same result with instructables bookmarked on my Firefox system, instructables bookmarked on del.icio.us, as well as instructables randomly loaded from the website itself. At home I've been trying to print to the PDF Creator software program, as I don't own a printer. At work, I've tried to both print directly to the printer, as well as printing to Adobe Acrobat 8 in an attempt to create a PDF file.I get the same errors, no matter which printing method I use.All attempts to print to PDF Creator and Adobe Acrobat 8 from other web sites have worked fine -- and I've gotten instructables to print to both of those software programs once or twice. Just it's only maybe 1 attempt out of 20.Admin - if more detailed error reports would be helpful, please contact me at the address on my account.

Recentely we have had our router shut down on us. we recently got a ps3 and have hardwired it so it dosnt have to use the wifi. however at any given point in time we have up to 3 computers, our wifi capable cable box, and our ps3/wii accesing the interntet. our router is a series wireless - G 2.4 Ghz and i blieve that it is shutting itsself down because of over crowding. can anyone confirm/ have any ideas on what to do about this as this is extreamy annoying. any help is greatly appreciated thank you!

I am looking for a new crash cymbal

I currently have a Zildjian ZBT 18in crash but its  to trashy sounding and needs a hard whack to make its sound decent, i am looking for a brighter clearer sounding crash and goes good with a ZBT ride.

My forum topic crashes my browser

My "Why don't they use gigantic leyden jars to collect lightning and use it to power homes?" forum topic crashes my browser every time I try to view it. I can't reply to what other prople are saying on it, or even see what they're saying except through my comments alert.
