St. Anthony's (The T Cross)

Hi, Does anyone know what kind of joint was used in making of a St. Anthony's  (The T Cross) that the Romans traditionally used for crucifixion. I've looked and looked and I just cant find it. I can guess but I don't want to guess. I want to make one that will be about a foot tall for a friend.  I hope you can help. Thank you

Cross-braces for wooden shelves

I want to make cross-braces for wooden shelves I built  using 1x4 stanchions, 1x12 shelves, threaded rod between the stanchions to hold the shelves up and the whole thing together, from an Instructables project. Ikea sells the perfect thing http://ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/87749600/  except it's too short and there's no Ikea in town; I mention it for the example it provides.  These http://www.storeroomshelves.com/storeroom_shelves_bracing/storeroom_shelves_bracing.htm look good too, and are cheap, but are 700 miles away. They don't need to be strong: I anchor the stanchions to the wall; I need them to hold the shelves up when I mantle and dismantle them.  They do need to be thin because the shelves are against the wall.

E-mail Newsletter

I am unable to access interesting topics from the newsletter directly.  I get this message when I click on a link: "Due to the presence of characters known to be used in Cross Site Scripting attacks, access is forbidden. This web site does not allow Urls which might include embedded HTML tags." I am using a web mail (cox) and chrome.  Your e-mail doesn't have a link on top for "if you can't see this in your browser", which would be nice as going to the home page doesn't show the current e-mail information.  ie Sonic Screwdriver by MrTinkerer   I've never seen the above warning before and it doesn't sound like one I want to see.  ;-}

Van Helsing Crossbow

I just finished watching van helsing for the umpteenth time and the crossbow that carl gives him is one of the only cool things in the movie, apparantly its steam driven works like a machine gun and uses magazines of crossbow bolts. So my question is, is it possible to make something of the sort using technology from that time? Unfortuately I havent had any ideas on its useage or working as yet.

Huge working crossbow!

In art class in school the other day, I took a bunch of random things - this metal thing, some yard sticks, a ruler, fishing line, a plastic thing, and this wooden bit, and made a giant working cross bow. The trigger system consists of two chip clips. With a bad piece of fishing line, the rnage is 40 feet.

Amazingly Powerful SniperBow(its a cross bow sniper rifle)

This gun has insane power, mine goes around 125-150 feet on two relatively small rubber bands. i give most of the structural design, trigger and handle to drummerian and his xbow. i have simply made it more powerfull and a little nice looking.

Decimator Crossbow (v7)

Well I finally got some more pieces, more still coming; this enabled me to build something bigger =dThis crossbow(more like cannon, now) has the following specs:Ammo: 1 Standard arrow, which needs to be ductaped other wise torn to shreds.Weight: 4,5 kilo's (9,92 pounds)Range: Not tested outside, will beat the Reaper and the Blockhead for sure.Rubberbands: 32, 8 strings of 4 ( these may still be increased as it shows no bending yet.)Power: Just look at 2nd picture....should explain a lot.Trigger: Same as on the Blockhead, some big improvements on it though.(Surprised about how power much it can take...)Sturdiness: Seems close to unbreakable lol...Without realizing..I also made a very good scope on it o.oI had a purple+blue 3d connector as arrow tip and when I fired on my cardboard box, it made a huge tear...and my ears were ringing like from an explosion O.o'Well this monster has bad points:Need a long/strong left arm if you are right-handed, because this thing is heavy as hell.Cannot fire without trigger.Every arrow needs ductape otherwise connector gets torn off. Also I gonna try and say...:I think this may very well be the most powerful ranged k'nex weapon on this site at the moment.

PLANS Dragon Tiger Chu Ko Nu Repeating Crossbow

This is a set of complete plans for a Dragon or Tiger "Chu ko nu." To be purchased on Etsy as a downloadable set of files: https://www.etsy.com/listing/272230762/dragon-or-tiger-chu-ko-nu-plans?ga_order=most_relevant&ga;_search_type=all&ga;_view_type=gallery&ga;_search_query=repeating crossbow&ref;=sr_gallery_1    It is an ancient Chinese mechanical repeating crossbow. The plans include the printable dragon and tiger patterns that you glue on to your wood pieces, then cut out and wood-burn the beautiful pattern. Then you can paint or stain it how you want to. It is a crossbow and a sculpture, like a display woodworking item that is also fun to shoot! Assembly instructions here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCGHTDqgWHU I have been fascinated by this type of crossbow since my early teen years and have been building and experimenting with them for more than 10 years. This set of plans displays my most current and refined iteration. It is very fun to make this and see your own fine work come together, then see and feel the mechanism function smoothly. Very satisfying. To build this you will need some small hardwood boards as will be listed on the cover page of the plans (this wood is available at hardware stores ex: Lowes). You will also need white glue, two wood screws, and one small nail. The plans are delivered to you as a digital download in a zip file with all the pages in it. Tools needed include: Saw (prefer a band saw with scrolling blade, but a thin bladed hand saw can work), Sand paper, Round wood file, Clamps for gluing, Drill with selection of bits, Wood burning tool.

Plastiki, the boat made with 12,500 plastic bottles, has successfully sailed across the Pacific Ocean. The journey started in San Francisco and has ended in Sydney after 130 days and 8,000 miles on the water. Ever been hit?

By a car? Besides when I've managed to run over myself, all of the times that I've been hit have been at intersections, obeying the lights. I got hit by a 50cc scooter once, too. That was less painful than hilarious. I think I got hurt less than the gal on the scooter. I had to help her pick it up and get it started again...I cross busy 4-lane streets in the middle of the block, rather than the light, for precisely that reason. Every time I've tried crossing Federal at the light, I've been hit or nearly hit by some cholo in a junker of a lowrider. Crossing the same street in the middle of the block, I've only had once close call, and that was my English teacher trying to be funny and just buzzing me.One of my friends got laid out in the crosswalk by someone who jumped the light a few miles from our school. She was in a bad way for a while, with multiple compound fractures. How about you? Ever been hit? How do you handle traffic and crossing?

Since that just means gridding them out and picking suitable colors, it's also a great resource for all sorts of projects: knitting, mosaics, or even LED art. Who doesn't want a Pac-Man scarf, a Super Mario Brothers tiled shower, or a glowing wall of Space Invaders?Bookmark this one for future use. I'll be referencing it when we redo our bathrooms.

Track, Field, and Cross Country experiences

Hello everybody! This is knexsniper1 with a brand new forum for everyone to share their experiences! This time it's about athletics; cross country, track and field to be exact! In this forum, I would like everyone to share their experiences while competing, or just for fun; about the mentioned topics. you may share your fastest times in the 100 meter, farthest long jump, tallest high jump, but these are only some of the things that you can share. the choice is up to you! You can also use this forum for tips on competing, or you can share your ideas on how to compete better. Those of you who compete in these sports will have their name displayed here, and stats about them, such as their fastest times etc. Remember! I want this forum to be as "clean" and appropriate as possible, so don't be calling anyone a loser just because they can not run as fast as you, or jump as far as you, or anything! Just to start this forum off, I will be the first one to post my experiences on this! You may share anything you wish! some of my goals include competing national, and then moving on to international, beating the world record for high jump, and beating bolt at 100 meter! Have fun! knexsniper1: - 1 mile run: 5:27 - 100 meter: 10.62 Kiteman: -did an eight minute mile cross-country. That's a thirteen mile cross-country half marathon in less than an hour and three quarters. Smokedasphalt: -timings and distances: 100meters : 10.8s 200m : 22.1s Long jump : 7.08 meters. Triple jump : 13.76 meters. High jump : 1.80meters. Other achievements : Best athlete of the under-19 category of Pune city. Rechargeable Battery Help?

I'm sick of throwing away AA batteries, and I go through a lot with my camera flash. The only rechargeable, multi purpose batteries I've used were some generic energizer ones I got some years ago, so I need your recommendations.I'm willing to spend a bit more for a quality charger/batteries that will last. For batteries, I'd like to support Eneloop, as they sponsored an instructables contest in the past. They are significantly better than Energizer/Duracell, right? How does Rayovac compare in price/power?For a charger, I was looking at the the BC-9009 by La Crosse. It has good reviews, charges slowly for a slower drain, prevents overcharging and has all sorts of other features. It comes with 4 AA, 4 AAA batteries and a case for $40. See it here:http://www.amazon.com/Crosse-Technology-BC-9009-AlphaPower-Battery/dp/B00077AA5Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s;=electronics&qid;=1251579646&sr;=8-1I don't know how good the la crosse batteries that it comes with are, though. The BC-700 would work fine and can be bought alone for $30.For packaging reference, I need to have at least 8 AA batteries, but would definitely use any extra AA or AAA that might come with it.So, what do you have to suggest? Thanks!Update: I read that energizers may be better than eneloops for things that use a lot of power quickly (like a camera flash) while the eneloops are better for things that use it slowly (like a remote control). Is that true? I'm concerned about getting batteries that will store a lot of electricity over many charge cycles, but not so much about them holding a charge during storage.

How to Make Lanyards yourself?

Creative types may be curious to learn how to make rubber bracelets. If you are able to follow simple directions you will be able to produce your very own ones for personal use or to give as a gift. Whether for yourself or a as a gift, it will be a great way to secure your keys, cell phone, badge, or whistle. In learning how to make lanyards it is important to choose the right material. A popular making material is a thin, elastic, and flexible plastic lace. It is readily available at most craft stores and referred to as craft lace, , gimp, or boondoggle. There are many different stitches that can be used to make or braid . Many braiding techniques are complex and time consuming. One of the simpler braids is referred to as a crown (or round) knot. One must utilize patience and follow directions carefully in learning how to make rubber wristbands. The basic crown knot is as follows:1. Take two strands of craft lace, fold them in half together (length will depend on the type of lanyard) and tie a knot toward the top to hold them securely together. You now have four strands secured at the top. 2. Spread the four strings apart, separately, pointing in each cardinal direction of a compass. Hold the left string with one finger (close to the knot). At the same time, pull the left string over the top string. 3. Cross the top string over the right string. At this point the top string is covering both the left string and the right string. Now cross the right string over the bottom string. Finally, cross the bottom string over the left string and tuck it under the looped top string. Pull each end of the four strings extremely tight to make the first knot. Continue crossing the strings in the same manner until the desired length is reached. The knots will produce a rounded href="http://Www.ybuw.com" target="_blank">silicone bracelets4. Do you think it a good way to make a gift to convey your sincere feelings? So, let’s do it now!

It's (not) life, Jim ... but not as we know it

From this week's Science magazine online abstracts:Self-Sustained Replication of an RNA EnzymeTracey A. Lincoln and Gerald F. JoyceAn RNA enzyme that catalyzes the RNA-templated joining of RNA was converted to a format whereby two enzymes catalyze each other’s synthesis from a total of four oligonucleotide substrates. These cross-replicating RNA enzymes undergo self-sustained exponential amplification in the absence of proteins or other biological materials. Amplification occurs with a doubling time of about one hour, and can be continued indefinitely. Populations of various cross-replicating enzymes were constructed and allowed to compete for a common pool of substrates, during which recombinant replicators arose and grew to dominate the population. These replicating RNA enzymes can serve as an experimental model of a genetic system. Many such model systems could be constructed, allowing different selective outcomes to be related to the underlying properties of the genetic system.

Cross Marketing Idea for Instructables

I was checking out the instructable for the coffee bag wallet and had a great idea. You know how grocery stores have recipe cards seeded around the store? I think  Instructables should hook up with Target stores and make recipe cards of  recycling crafts,  placed in front of the product areas. In the past I have seen Target run a recipe card campaign on their own, versus relying on product manufacturers to place the cards and i know they are a perfect fit for the demographic of both this website and their market. Imagine how many altoids tins, coffee bags they could move!!  Another idea - Ikea! - How many times are those lack tables used in projects? Tons! for Ikea, an instore "re-craft show" would be super cool! Did anyone ever see all the marketing that Gallo wines put into bottle reuse - or their booth at Makerfaire? Made me go out an buy a bottle... It's all win-win!

Non-appropriate google adverts

Searching for "boob" or other such words in the search bar makes/has google display porn adverts. This may block instructables due to cross-linking to porn sites. Why searching for boob? To make them of course! (Squishy Breast Stress Relief Toy). Which is borderline appropriate in some school/library networks - but linking to porn isn't. Can we filter these ad's out?

Anoying Add

I couldn't help but notice the new ad for Ace Hardware on the site. Glad to see you are getting some ad revenue for the site. But does the thing have to bring up a larger popup version of the add every time my mouse just happens to cross over it? This is really putting a drag on my browsing experience for the site. If you could disable the automatic popup of the ad that would be great.
